The utterly magnificent Kate Bush at her magnificent best! Her vocals in that section that begins with "no strangers feet" are probably my favourite little segment of all of her glorious vocals down the years. She said that this song was inspired by "The Shining" with her in mind and body as the haunted hotel/house not entrapping the unsuspecting stranger, but shutting and barring the door in order to keep them out. Nothing really prepares someone for a first listen to this song (apart from listening all the way through the wild untamed beast and work of feral genius that is "The Dreaming" that is). But if you are going to take it on its own and pair with a song from someone else, then "Don't Fear The Reaper' is pretty much a perfect choice. Two great songs - almost made for each other!
Yes Tommy! Sections of her vocals completely seduced my soul in this one. Glad you loved my song pairing and I hope you enjoy some of my other Halloween picks...still 8 more songs to go at least! Thanks for tuning in!
Ha, thanks...Toning down the theatrics this year, but still wanting to be a bit creative...let's see what else I come up with for the remaining 3 videos. I definitely want to be a blue color in 1 of them LOL....
Don't Fear the Reaper is a very well known song in Australia. Never knew it had been edited. Kate Bush has always been avant-garde, but damn! Very left field. Looking forward to see what ghoulish songs come next! Maybe some of my suggestions...
Glad that Reaper is an international hit song! Kate sure knows how to go to the farthest left of the musical field! I think you'll be happy to know that 2 of your suggestions made the cut this season!! 👻
Hey Brandon, thank you for allowing me to hear the original, of which I knew only a couple of covers. I understand now why they were only marginally deviating, it's a great song as it is. Now go figure why The Dreaming is my favourite album of her. If there was a nightmare ever put to record, here it is. Please go on listening to it until the kangaroo hits the bonnet of the van! And please, check The Stranglers, especially Feline and Aural Sculpture. Be well my friend ❤ Hope you're well my friend, I will edit for Kate Bush. 😮
I am a huge Kate Bush fan since Hounds of Love came out. Get out of my House is one of my absolute fav songs (by any artist) since I was a teen as it incorporates the term Art Rock like hardly anything else (sorry David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, and Robert Fripp). You can read it in different ways - also in a direct sexual context. Ee-ore imo comes from the line "turn into the mule". Reaper is just a timeless classic - I especially like the guitar solo in the middle part - you ware also taken by it as it seems (I am just watching it now). BÖC had some very good songs especially in their early carreer. I recommend the sad but on real events based story song Then Came the Last Days of May.
@@retroreactions.... Thanks you, I guess you would like the song. If you are looking for another interesting Kate song: Breathing - her attempt to do a "Pink Floyd song" and she really succeeds. The lyrics are again very progressive as it is about a nuclear fallout and radiation in a war or incident - from the pov of a unborn child in a mother's womb! Who comes up with ideas like that apart from Kate Bush :D
Loving the get up, and a great choice of tracks. Kate (as I keep harping on) is my favourite female artist along with Joan Armatrading (Stevie Nicks is a close third) - Get Out Of My House is a personal fave. Here's a suggestion, if you don't know it, "Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies" by Biffy Clyro.
Ha, thanks! Stevie Nicks is amazing...and I see you love The Cure! My 2nd fave band of all time, just behind Depeche Mode. SO excited for the new album and I will probably do a 1st time reaction to it here! Thanks for the suggestion and for watching 😊
I think senility is kicking in - when thinking of "horror" themed songs, how could I forget my favourite artist? Kate is obviously a bit of a horror film buff, in Wuthering Heights she sang as the ghost of Cathy calling for her lover to join her in death. Next album had the song Hammer Horror, her third had the song The Infant Kiss, inspired by the film The Innocents, which in turn is based on the story The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. And then this song, inspired by Kurbrick's film of the Stephen King novel The Shining, her Kate is singing not as someone trapped in the house, but as the possessed house itself outraged at trespassers. And on her next album the song Mother Stands For Comfort, about a mother covering up for her serial killer son, I think is inspired by the Stephen King novel, The Dead Zone, or the film thereof, and the song Hounds of Love starts with a sampled line from the film Night of the Demon. There's probably more I don't recall at the moment. Keep up the good work Brandon, I'm watching even if I'm not commenting.
Hehe..no worries, but yes Kate does dark, eerie and mysterious to perfection! Ah, yes I reacted to Hammer Horror last Halloween and loved it. So cool about the true meaning. Reminds me a bit of the film The Others... Thanks for all the watch time Steve. It's much appreciated! Hope all is well.....😊
That amazing Spanish sounding instrumental section in "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" is the absolute BEST and I pity da fools who decided to cut it out to make a short single out of it! 🤬🤦♂ I was really pleased with Stephan King's The Stand TV mini series because he used this song at the beginning when the virus is first released and he INCLUDED the guitar solo section! 👌🥰 And of course Kate is GREAT! 💖
Hello Brandon! Very theatrical and nicely staged reaction, wow, and very well picked songs and clever comments. Get Out of My House is perhaps Kate’s most extreme and angry song (together with Waking the Witch from “Hounds”) and is inspired by Stephen King’s The Shining. And the unwelcoming house is herself, of course. You asked for the donkey-sound - eeeeeaurhh - well, and should represent her stubbornness being the angry and unwelcoming house, barricading herself.
Hi Tom! Thanks so much for all your great compliments. We still have 3 more Halloween videos coming! So cool that she is singing from the house's point of view. Thanks for the explanation and for watching my friend! 👻
Hello. The Halloween slots are full, but due to multiple suggestions, I will consider ILTN and Nosferatu for BOC's next regular turn. Thanks for watching!!
Hello...Another dark one by BOC I take it?.. The Halloween lineup is already set, but I can add it to my regular song request spreadsheet.... Thanks so much for watching and for being first tonight! 🥇
@tonyetchells6051 Oh yes, "I Love The Night"(studio version) is a must for Halloween. Back in 1977, there were rock critic articles in Hit Parader, calling it/asking was it "....son of Reaper...",
@@retroreactions....If I knew you were reacting to this, I would have highly suggested listening to the track immediately after on the BOC album with Patti Smith singing on it. One of my favorite natural double shots.
Dead Man's Party....By OIngo Boing and Poor Skeleton steps out...by XTC....The Wild, the Beautiful and the Damned by Ultravox....[edited because of synaptic derailment on band names]
Hey, Bauhaus,Bela Lugosis Dead is an all time fav ( not only for Halloween 😊) Not sure if you already reacted to That Gem Love your Kate Bush reactions, im sure you would love her Aerial Album, specially second side
Hello! Yes, I reacted to Bela last Halloween! 😊 Yes, excited for Aerial eventually. Sadly it will have to be on Patreon though, since it's outside the channel time window...Thanks so much for watching!
Please consider the suggestion I made last Halloween. The Legendary Pink Dots have a huge catalog of interesting music that I am almost sure you will love, and a great deal of it would also fit in with your Halloween theme. I strongly suggest you start with either or both of these albums: The Crushed Velvet Apocalypse or Any Day Now. I love Get Out Of My House, and all of The Dreaming album. Near the end of Get Out Of My House, the vocals say "I change into a mule. Eeyore...eeyore... eeyore..."
Thanks for the reminder about TLPD. They seem to have many albums that fit into the channel time window. Ah, the line "I change into a mule" is crucial for me to understand why that male voice shouting Eeyore took over... thanks!
'Tis the Halloween season? BOC's "Nosferatu" from their 1977 Spectres, fits the bill. Written and sung by their original bassist, it lyrically-follows Bram Stoker's novel closely.
Halloween in full swing here at Retro Reactions! Only wanted 1 song per artist for my limited Halloween slots, but BOC's regular rotation turn is coming around quite soon, so I'll highly consider doing Nosferatu then!
@@retroreactions.... The whole of her 1979 Tour of Life is available on youtube, as separate songs and as a whole. The quality isn't great as it's video tape from 79 but it's good enough. I just wish someone had filmed it as the show was spectacular, unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. As a taster heres the last song of the night...ua-cam.com/video/uRQL_B41Bu0/v-deo.html
I’ll get a listen in before bed…zzzzz! I’ve seen “Don’t Fear the Reaper” live a few times. BOC is a great live band! I can’t remember if you’ve reacted to “Godzilla” or not?? I haven’t heard “Get Out of My House” in quite awhile , definitely an unusual song. I’m looking forward to your reactions later today!! 🙂
What I don't get is that Juliet didn't even have the salmon mousse. Kinda makes ya quextium da meanin' o' life, dutton it? Heckums! And that there Kate Bush...shooowee!! It’s too bad the such a great song has been turned into a joke by SNL stunt. It lost its intrigue with that stunt. They actually released a version with the cowbell muffled for radio. Makes me hate Will Ferrell even more.
Yea, though I mentioned the SNL, I can separate that in my mind, and I really enjoyed the full song on it's original merit. Never found Will funny haha...Thanks for the visit Kent!
Memorable songs that touch on the darker thoughts that can occupy our minds... Thanks for watching! 👻
Every Kate Bush song is a journey.
Kate Bush is magnificent
Cheers to that! Thanks for tuning in...😊
We all know "Don't Fear the Reaper" Epic classic. Now this Kate Bush song is EVERYTHING!! 👻👻🏠💙💙🎼🎵🎶🎶
She should have made a music video for it! I read that "The Shining" was inspiration for the song....

And on an isolated peak, two mules bray at each other as the storm rages and a crowd of horrors surround them and watch.
Quite evocative there!! Thanks so much for watching 🙂
Love the eyeliner! 😺 Wow you never heard Buck's middle solo?🎸 Best part! BOC Rocks!
Yeah, it's amazing there was even an edited version that edited out that iconic centerpiece.
Ha, thanks! Let's see what I come up with for tomorrow's Halloween vid! Yea, the middle solo sent the song to a new level!! Thanks for tuning in!
That's the version I had always heard sadly...
I love your JD Vance imitation. Great Halloween vibe.
