This was the radio version. The album version has an awesome guitar solo. Check it
Yeah, I miss the solo, lol. Not actually Live either, this was over-dubbed. That was common back then, it's hard to edit out the crowd on an analogue recording in stereo without computers, lol. Not impossible, but costly and slow, you need a real good engineer.
A lot of people pick this version for reactions because it looks like it's live, but most performances prior to 1995 you're usually better going with the studio version (with quite a few exceptions, but in general, unless indicated otherwise, the album is the safer bet).
I'd love to see their reaction to "Fire of Unknown Origin".
It's a little more representative of their musical style.
I wish they would play the actual live version. It's awesome.
Wow!! The famous middle section that everyone waits for was totally cut out!!!!! Crazy
That's almost as bad as listening to Come Sail Away by Styx and finding out they left out that keyboard solo.
@@j.woodbury412 or fading off the kick ass end of foghat slow ride or the whole middle section of manfred man’s blinded by the light
I hate these "official" videos. They always cut something. The worst is Pantera's Cemetary Gates. They leave out the entire intro and first verse! Disgusting.
@lucasnavajas4166 that's just as bad as leaving out the long drum solo from Santana live at Woodstock on " Soul Sacrifice ".
@lucasnavajas4166 or even the long guitar solo from The Knack " My Sharona ". 🎸
We need more Cow Bell... I need more Cow Bell!
You got a fever? The only prescription is ...
@@dggydddy59really explore the space this time.
Yes It was on Late night Comedy Shows SNL skits with Jimmy Fallon and 2 others movie stars I think 🤔 .
1990s SNL skits.
Blue Oyster Cult doing Godzilla live is awesome.
Got to see them twice on the Godzilla tour. Killer show both times!
Yes I remember. The drummer put on a Godzilla head and with a strobe light, it looked eerie.
As others on here have said, the cool guitar solo was somehow cut out from this version! These are my guys, from Long Island, NY. I have seen them over 20 times through the years. They are a great live band. "Burnin' for you" was another radio hit. Other great songs: Veteran of the Psychic Wars, Godzilla, Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll, Astronomy.
As soon as you hear that guitar diff, you know who it is.
You're right, the 70's had the best music!
once "rock & roll" gets into your soul - it never leaves
Such a classic rock song that is loved by many ladies so now you have experienced the blue oyster cult. Baboom ! Wintersun Alex in Texas ❄️❤️
I saw Blue Oyster Cult with Black Sabbath back in 81' they called it the " Black and Blue " Tour
Blue Oyster Cult had a 60 ' foot Blowup Godzilla with red glowing eyes and it blew Dry Ice smoke out of its mouth down on the first 6 rows of the fans.
Awesome Concert !
Cool
70's bands are far superior to any other generation. Thanks for reviewing Blue Oyster Cult. Great band!
You reacted to a rare version that edited out the iconic guitar solo? SACRILEGE!!!
Not only is this the edited version of the song, it is not a live performance. The video part is, but the audio is the shortened version of the song synced with the live video. I've seen Blue Oyster Cult several times and they would never play the shortened version in concert.
Glad you enjoyed one of America's great rock bands.
Their nickname is "The Soft White Underbelly". They also have "Godzilla", "Veteran of the Psychic Wars", "Astromomy", and "Burn'in for You".
I saw them in 1979 at University of Hawaii when I was in the USAF, I loved that concert! Excellent reaction ladies!!
Veteran of Physic Wars live from 1981.
FUN FACT : When Blue Oyster Cult had "made it" & still wanted to play small local club shows they would use the bands previous name in advertising the show as "Soft White Underbelly" 🙂
Lol
Feathered hair style. I had that in the 70's with shoulder length hair . I was told it was real easy to cut if you are hanging upside down by your feet then your hair was cut straight across. lol. When it comes to words in a song most of the time I couldn't understand them in the 1st place and just enjoyed the music.
Blue Oyster Cult | Don't Fear The Reaper...Like many, I originally thought ii was a suicide pack but it isn't. The writer was thinking about death is inevitable and don't be afraid. In the song she is dying. Blue Oyster Cult is one of the bands I saw 4 years in a row in the mid 70's. They had a laser light show. It was the 1st laser show that the lights were creating images over the heads of the audience up front. Laser shows after that were just straight line lasers. Other songs ...Godzilla ...and they did a great cover of ... Born To Be Wild.
Great reaction to great band and song!
Radio edit. Oh that missing middle section is the best things ever and makes the song. Fun reaction ladies thanks. Maybe try BOC song Damaged
Kind of weird for the requester to request the radio edit of a 45+ year old song over a live performance.
I saw BOC in 2008 or so in a little place in Cincinnati. Only two originals members remained, the two playing guitar and singing on this song, but it was still a fun show. My friend and I were the youngest people there. A guy in the crowd kept glancing our way and finally walked over when BOC finished their song "Flaming Telepaths." The guy said he'd been wondering why two "kids" were at a Blue Oyster Cult show, but that he was surprised when he saw me singing along with the song. I told him that I had grown up listening to the band and had been in cover bands that played a few BOC covers. All of us eventually worked our way to the front of the stage between Eric and Buck and rocked out for the rest of the night.
Great story
Great that you guys keep the BOC fire burning! I'm a fan of the original lineup, but I love that Ritchie Castellanos is contributing in a major way, and has been producing new material.
Saw blue oyster cult back in mid 80s , cardiff uk, still one of the best gigs I've been to.
The second-best concert I ever saw was BOC in 1978. A laser light show that as I recall was later ended for being bad for the eyes. In fact, right now I am typing this totally blind! I had to learn to drive blind. Everything. Wait, no, my eyes are fine. I MAY have blown my mind out seeing so many concerts.
Anyway, no one could beat the J. Geils band from 1976.
One thing I'd like to say about BOC. If one likes monster movies, they will like many BOC songs as they loved to play off of monster movie themes. Nosferatu, Godzilla, just a couple examples.
Oh, and their name! They had many a parent freaking out about that word "cult". Um, yeah....a cult of oysters! I'm still ready to argue the point with my dead parents. 😂
Please, please, please react to the full version. It's cool that y'all enjoyed this, but you can dig it more with the bridge intact.
Just saw them in concert a week and a half ago (great show...Buck Dharma is still a fantastic guitarist). And of course they closed the show with this one! :)
Great reaction, as usual! But you got the short version of the song, check out the full version, it has an awesome instrumental / guitar solo in the middle that was cut out of this version ...
I first saw Blue Oyster Cult back in 1980 at the Omni in Atlanta.
I SAW THEM AT THE BACHENAL BAR IN THE 80S TOO!!!
Excellent --- Rock On!
Happy Kathy
They're one of my favorite bands. I saw them a couple of times in the 70's; Once in Lakeland, FL, and then again in San Diego, CA. They have a lot of great songs to choose from. I think you'd like "Then Came the Last Days of May" or "Godzilla". Both are excellent.
Late Comment: (Been getting my mother settled into an assisted living at the nursing home, so I'm a couple of days behind). When this came out, I was 12 or 13, but I hung out with an older crowd, and I remember when this song came on the radio, they turned it up to 11. BOC has some deep meaning lyrics that you may have to listen closely to a few times to get the full meanings.
Saw BOC 1981...they are one of the greatest rock bands to ever exist! The ETL live album is killer.!
If you enjoyed this, try listening to their song Godzilla. My personal favorite and a really fun song.
This band formed at the State University of New York @ Stony Brook where my mother worked as a secretary. That college had concerts all the time. She met Billy Idol and Joan Jett just before both became famous. They were touring together.
This song always needed more cow bell 😉
I remember they used this song as the intro to the first episode of The Stand mini-series (the one with Jamie Sheridan as Flagg). It played right after the virus got loose in the lab and right before they went to commercial break.
At the time I was so pumped that the show writers were clever enough to include this, to start things off. I thought the rest of the series would be a home run. It decidedly was not. Oh well. We always have the intro.
Now, can grandma remember Kansas' Dust in the Wind?
The first time I heard this I was in Edmonton, Canada and was listening to the static between radio channels trying to find the distant stations. I finally tuned into a quite strong signal from Vancouver 750 miles away, over the Rocky Mountains and on the west coast. It was a brand new song and literally seeped into my soul, so plaintive, and hopeful, and dark. I love the old console TV/Radio/Record Players because the radios can tune in very distant signals. Of course, radio plays crap today, and it isn't like listening to an amazingly good song in the 70s, beamed through the ethers, across the mountains and prairies into your young ears, up at 3am finding some reason to feel happy and connected.
Feathered hair…. That’s my dad 😂😂😂 He’s pretty much had it my whole life
I first heard this in the original mini tv series The Stand.
Saw them decades ago-you could get a contact high just from the smoke in the stadium! And as others have said - this the radio edit - you wanted the album cut.
Saw BOC twice in the 70's at Dallas Memorial Auditorium, first time with blue eyed blonde Cathy and second with blue eyed blonde Phyllis who became my wife. Still love the band.
The remastered live versions of “Astronomy” and “ Veteran of the Physic Wars “ are good. Plus one my favorites is Joan Crawford.
Somebody in the comments mentioned "more cowbell". It's from an iconic Saturday Night Live sketch. Do yourselves a favor and react to the SNL More Cowbell sketch and be amazed by how many views you get!
Thanks for the info
I got a fever and the only prescription is more Cow Bell.....
Try Godzilla next!!
Kids used to sing , "don't be afraid of the reefer"
This is a great band. I really think you'll like Godzilla.
There's not enough Cowbell, we need Will Ferrell, so we can get enough Cowbell, lol
I love the night.
More cow bell, please!🤘🎸
Okay ladies it’s time for some painters for you
Almost 50 years later Blue Oyster Cult just released a new album called "Ghost Stories". It's quite good too.
Another BOC song worth checking out is "I love the night".
You Know How Silly I Am.!!! Love you gals!
Buck's killer solo helped make the song the monster hit it was/is. Vibe I got from your reaction was that BOC was a very talented band.
blue oyster cult harvest moon is a good one to listen to.
BOC epic band... Saw em' few times live. Guitar player IMHO one of the best of the best of the day but that doesn't "Come out" in this song, listen to "Astronomy" Live, album was "Some Enchanted Evening."
So many great songs such as Cuties on Flame (w Rock n Roll), Then Came The Last Days of May, Astronomy, Godzilla, The Red and The Black (awesome!) and the list goes on.
More Cowbell - SNL check it out Lulu
more cowbell !!!!!!
Finally!
We need more cowbell
1976 for this one although they cut out the middle 8 in this video the guitar solo was epic.
They went under the name soft white underbelly and played small clubs throughout upstate New York and Long Island
You Have to do Godzilla next ! 😂
Great choice ladies. They are fantastic live! Unfortunately the middle section of this is cut out.❤❤❤
I think you 3 are very talented ;)
If you listen to the live version, off Extraterrestrial Live, you will hear this song in all, and beyond, it’s awesomeness!!! Do it ladies!!! 🤘🤘🎸🎸🙏
I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice.
My favorite BOC song and always will be.
The beginning of Stephen King's "The Stand" (1994 and best version) features this as the opening track.
Some folks back when this was on the radio every day thought it was encouraging suicide but deep down it's a love song.
"The love of two is one".
Another band with this kind of vibe and depth you need to check out if you haven't already is Kansas.
Fun fact: Before they were Blue Oyster Cult, they were The Great White Underbelly.
If you can find a live Blue Oyster Cult Godzilla video, the drummer put on a Godzilla head and with a strobe light, it looked eerie.
You guys are the coolest ones on UA-cam right now, I get great vibes from your videos. This song was also in the Stephen Kings The Stand, i do think you've seen that ? if not, you have to watch it, its great. Ohh and I really like Lulus belt buckle, its really awesome :D Thanks :D
Wow, thank you!
I have a fever…. And the only prescription is more cow bell 😂🤘🏻🔥💥🔥☮️
Dig it!
Great song . . Havnt heard it in a while .
Take care ladys .
Bye from NZ💐💐💐👋🇳🇿twa
They are called B.O.C. also
Holloween movie music!
Seen them 2 years ago and they still sound the same , The song was about the singer's Buck Dharma health condition he was born with
Blue Oyster Cult song ME262. About the famous German jet plane (the FIRST jet plane) that flew briefly during WW2. You will definitely need the lyrics in front of you. Quickly sung words. "Must these Englishman live that I might die Must they live, that I might die!". Super rocking' song! Kathy or Donna might get up and dance to this one!
Video with lyrics: Blue Oyster Secret Treaties ME 262 with lyrics. Is the one you want to Google. Video changes pictures AND the lyrics appear right before they are sung allowing easy following. Highly recommended!
Blue Oyster Cult Secret Treaties ME 262 with lyrics. This is the one you want, the lyrics appear right before they are sung allowing easy following. And the video has changing pictures other than just the album cover pictured.
Skip the hits altogether, and go for the Live in Concert versions of "The Last Days Of May", or "Veteran Of the Psychic Wars", if you really want to get blown right out of your blue jeans!🤗
ist concert i went to 1981 or 2 providence civic ct with Foghat , that one song got me turned on to them when i was in jr high,
4 days late to the party 🥳🎉 WOE NOW⁉️ What happened to the guitar solo⁉️⁉️ I call a Ree-Do!!!! 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Yeah, it's just not the same without the guitar solo. I hope you listen to the longer version.
Some more Blue Oyster Cult songs you should check out are: Godzilla, We Gotta Get Out of This Place, Veteran of the Psychic Wars, and Burnin For You.
"Guess what! I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!"
Check out Blue Oyster Cult Veteran Of The Psychic Wars live version , Godzilla live version, Astronomy live version, and Mistress Of The Salmon Salt
This song opens Stephen King's "The Stand" mini series.
Last Days of May!
In 2000, Saturday Night Live did a skit about the making of this song. The skit became and remains a classic to this day and spawned the phrase "More Cowbell!" I've included the link; even if you don't do a reaction to it, it's still worth a watch just for your own amusement :) ua-cam.com/video/cVsQLlk-T0s/v-deo.html
This isn't live. It's the radio edit version dubbed to a live performance.
ok new sub
u ladies are great keep it up and gl with the channel
😍
Thanks for subbing!
Try the songs " Godzilla " - Veteran Of Physic War - Burning For You ". 👍 🎸
Check out Rick Derringer and David Cassidy (1970s) for the best Feathered hair of all time !
Great reactions. Love your 70s rock reactions. You must do Blue Oyster Cult song called Burnin For You. Do the live version, It kicks this song to the curb although this is a great one.
Try the live version "then came the last days of may"
More cowbells. Enjoy The Journey - Cheers
1976 the year i was born and its an all time classic tune. The album version is better with more guitars 🎸 etc
SNL with The Blue Oyster Cult, "Don`t Fear the Reaper: we need more cow bell...funny as H__l:)
Lol
One of the all time best SNL skits.
I'm disappointed it wasn't the whole song. The missing part defines the song. I saw them in 1977 when they still used lasers in their shows before it was banned, I also saw them when they were "Soft White Underbelly" in a venue that served alcohol. They had a fence down the middle. Adults on one side and minors on the other, Many beers were passed over the fence.
They just released a brand new album (possibly their last😢)
What did you do to the guitar solo
Nothing. That was the video that was sent to us. We watch the videos we receive. We had no idea there was a guitar solo missing.
your DAD has taste
