    SPOILERS FOR THE EP…
Nah bro, Histoire dying kinda shook me up. I guess because despite how powerful she is, she was mainly a non-combatant. And someone who’s lived since Planeptune began. Or maybe it’s because there wasn’t even any reason she needed to die. Or maybe because it was off camera, or she represented hope for the future. Either way, that was really sad for me. Certainly not how I ever expected her to go.

People were saying that this game was inspired by Dragon Ball Z's future Trunks story, and it really does look like it. That means Maho is Trunks, Nepgear is Gohan, and I guess Neptune is Goku then, XD
Lv 999999. Not even in Disgaea games can you reach that level.
About the Uzume and alternate dimensions situation: Remember that it was said that the portal to the Ultradimension was lost after Arfoire returned. Maybe that means that the Hyperdimension has been cut off from every other dimension, making it impossible for Uzume to return, no matter how much time has passed. The question then would be "why Arfoire's return cut the Hyperdimension off from the rest?" And for that, I really have no answer.
QotD: Well, given that there's time travel involved, it doesn't matter how dark things get, since there's a way to fix it. So, if there was a game to go all out in darkness, it's this one. And Neptune vs SHG, that also had time travel.

  • @SenpaiBlade

Also, to clarify two things in the QOTD:
    1. If Uzume missing is the result of some epic dimension war, or something similar to that, and she’s been fighting it off until the beginning of the next canon game (that would be the plot of the next game, allowing a lot of new characters), then that would probably work… But it NEEDS to be that big, for me to be okay with it. Too much happened for me to give a normal reason of where she is if she's been alive all this time.
    2. I choose not to add music this time… Seemed appropriate considering the circumstances

@SenpaiBlade well I had two ideas from your surprised reaction to that information; the Cpus not knowing about the pc cpus and that the Pc continent was the first with Cpus. Since the 2nd being covered quite a bit, I figured to cover the first.
As for the second, it could honestly be that pc is just isolationst and didn't get involved with Gameindrustri very much or at all. There's also the possibility that the girl knew Pc had a cpu, but the identity was kept secret. Same with there being a candidate/twin(?) Goddess. Which seems to be the case, seeing as the Pc citizens didn't know what their Cpu looked like or human identity.
Which is a lot more realistic then one would think, with a few irl examples, Japan being a big one(weather it be an emperor that out of the public eye/know about but no face to put the name to or a shogun situation and controlling things out of the public's eye). Could also be that Maho and her sister gave their citizen government more autonomy/power then our Cpus. Cultural divide and all that.

And keep in mind, when they didn’t have the tech in Ultradimension, Vert did some investigating into the other CPUs before coming out herself, and only got caught because Neptune knew what she was already XD

    1. *(Ziri's Activation)*
To be fair, I was also a bit confused by Ziri activating itself, but then I considered the likelihood the time travel function was just something added into the mechanical soldier body. It wasn't totally non-functional. It just wasn't necessarily intended that it would be used in an active combat mode unless the base (and itself) came under threat before the time travel function became operational.
    2. *(Timeline Fusion)*
I have seen certain stories attempt to toy with this idea, but the means by which they are executed vary quite a bit. They normally come about _as a result_ of paradoxes, though, from what I've seen.
    3. *(The End of A World)*
The deaths of the survivors and Histoire was the moment I realized we were watching the absolute end of a world. If there was ever going to be a point where all life was going to be considered well and truly doomed for a world, that was it. In all likelihood, Nepgear's sacrifice to activate the time travel function was the only remaining option they had left to stave off total and permanent human extinction.
I think one could come to a reasonable conclusion in that situation and say when faced with the threat of extinction, _every alternative is preferable._
QOTD: I can certainly imagine ways the series could go darker than this. We only had a brief preview of what became of the world before Grey Sister traveled back in time. To go darker would mean to explore all that happened before that, in all the excruciating details. Observing a slow descent into darkness is often far more grim than plunging straight into it.
To that end, I'd say the Conquest Ending of _Re;Birth 2_ remains the darkest the series has ever truly gotten by virtue of them drawing out the affair for as long as they did. The bad ending of _Megadimension_ at least holds a candle to it by comparison, but it's still just within the bounds of a single cutscene.

    1. I think there is a reason why they couldn't write Uzume in is possible due to the how she worked in VII. She's kind of a bit too powerful for the plot, so I think they would probably would have a hard time trying to write her in without her being too overpowered (ie. having reality warping powers and stuff that would have been impossible).
As for in-game reason, I'm not entirely sure was that Uzume was either dead around those 11 years or offworld in Zero Dimension or somewhere and the time flow wasn't synchronized at the time. Leaning towards the latter because of what I said before.
    2. The Nepgear in the timeline Grey Sister came from show a lot of her character and how strong-willed she can be. Like even if she is dying and saw everyone except Maho died, she still made the decision to send Maho to the past and mostly kept her composure until the end. Heck. She even sacrificed herself.
And I felt like the present Nepgear (not the alt. timeline Nepgear) has a similar growth. There's a subtle growth between the Nepgear we were introduced to and the Nepgear we have now.
QOTD: It's pretty dark, but you haven't seen nothing yet.

@@SenpaiBlade But another possible reason was that they originally had her in but was cut to either to fit the timeframe or weird scheduling with the VA because in the PC game file, they were remnant of Uzume (or at least her processors). Remember that they have a model for Uzume (Neptunia Riders) and that model didn't just came out of nowhere for that specific game.
A possibility is either they didn't finish the model yet or they didn't finish some of her animations (which could include her EXE attack). I'm leaning towards the latter because there was something from the Switch version kind of proves this theory. That and there was a rumor that the original JP version of PS4 SVS had that model in the files (but this is nothing more than just a rumor).

@@silentherox700 I highly doubt her model not being ready was the reason she wasn’t here. They don’t need her to be playable after all. Especially if Maho isn’t.
And besides, I asked for just one line to explain her absence. If they can’t even do that, it’s bad writing. No matter what the reason is, they still need an in game reason for why she isn’t here.

@@SenpaiBlade The thing about that is that I feel like there was a point where you could tell when Maho was supposed to playable. Like when it was revealed that Maho was Grey Sister, they could have added a fight in between she transformed to when Nepgear and the others were fighting. Or even when they were fighting Arfoire. And if it wasn’t obvious enough, they blast Will be Venus when she transformed.
I’m not really suggesting her model since it was probably already finish by then, but could be her animations. Like they would just make her punch like the Megatag game, but the way she attack in VII is more due to her megaphone. Or her EXE Drive.

Glad to see this playthrough continuing.
Reminder: If Red Hood reflects Uzume, then Nepgear is reflected by none other than Dorosi.
QotD: Not really. The bar was set high enough since mk2, and from a storytelling perspective, it's natural to surpass certain thresholds when the setting introduces ways to cope with or deny what happened (example: time travel that can potentially undo anything, or a multiverse - not in terms of Neptunia's dimensions, but in terms of the coexistence of all possible endings and beyond).

    • @블소3D
      @블소3D 21 день тому +2

7:37 Well, if we bring up the Conquest ending (or rather, the whole Apocalypse chapter of mk2), Megamira sorta retconned it into "main" universe.
Also, the "main timeline" is a actually not a stable thing. Consider this: Apocalypse happened, years passed, Nepgear developed N-Gear Ver. 16 and went back in time to prevent this from happening, and her memories got erased (either she did it to herself or it happened after battle with CFW Magic). Is this feasible? Absolutely, it even gives more sense to the mk2 prologue. Can you prove that it did *not* happen this way? I don't see a way. Can it be a part of "main timeline" from this perspective? Yes, and if one of next canon games provides this explanation, it becomes real even without altering anything from the previous games.
9:28 This is something that Croire would like to see, and something for Nepgear (and maybe Histoire, too) here to consider thoughtfully. Given this description, they have to decide on risking to doom the another timelines (assuming they exist) for the sake of this one.
The idea behind saving this timeline is indeed clever and unusual, because we have two factors:
      1. They are talking about one-way travel at this point, nobody mentions traveling back to this time after Arfoire is defeated in the past. Obviously, they don't want to return.
      2. The noble goal is literally to save this world, it's not about fixing Maho's mistake or tweak specific events from the past.
I.e. the main issue here is that from Histoire's perspective, even if Nepgear returns back, even if she returns with some broken superpower able to wipe Deity of Sin from this world, won't bring back anyone (I'm talking about population here, not even about fallen CPUs), and won't bring this world a truly happy ending. Which means, they have to rely on intentionally causing time paradox and timeline merge, because there's a miracle chance that the events get actually erased, the people get back to existence, etc.
This chapter even introduces some unnamed kids: these characters are unimportant on the bigger scale we're used to, but Nepgear and Maho really care about them, and they can't just go with "hey, we're going to search for True End in another timelines, have fun starving in this desolated world, bye".
11:11 Well, Maho is built different. It's really just her character trait, and she is consistent with it.
Also, it's pretty realistic if you think about it. When situation becomes this level of dire and all there is no hope for it to get better anytime soon, people *do* develop a dark and mean sense of humour as their coping mechanism. Even if Nepgear and Maho just lied down and cried in despair, or became gloomy and serious, now it's in the past for them.
And more importantly, having a friend with this attitude *really* helps Nepgear here to not spiral.
If you wanna go for deeper character/relationship analysis, consider the fact that Nepgear always had Neptune around her (and when she didn't, she just had a top priority goal to rescue Neptune). She is used to have someone like this since her birth. Here, Neptune is gone, and Maho is around. At the beginning of this game, Neptune also was gone beyond rescue, and Maho also came to be around her. And the real question is, what would happen with Nepgear if neither of them were around to joke at times like this?
20:28 It's winnable if you come as Nepgear solo, and have the strongest weapon equipped as well as proper disc combination; but it takes a lot of time and can't be turtles with heals and stalling to regen AP/Tac.
23:00 Uhhh... IF? I'm pretty sure it's implied that she wasn't on the ship.
Or rather, it was implied that she wasn't with us anymore at all at this time period. The only Maker who survived (well, until right now) was Compa.
23:52 If we assume the supernatural strength: in the anime, Plutia's arc is coming back-to-back with Arfoire arc. At that point, Nepgear barely learned how to transform and fly. In this scene, Nepgear is out of power after fight with Deity of Sin, and it also took a lot to keep the AI CPUs manifested.
24:27 Okay, but what makes you think Maho (in this specific point of story) cared about the other CPUs? Yes, she cares about Nepgear and the kids, but she was with them for some (less than 102741 hours) time. She also cares about Anri, and she wasn't joking while mentioning her. But others? She can't even transform so she obviously didn't have the nation leader role, and it's quite possible that she didn't even meet any CPU other than Nepgear at all.
This is directly deducible from her behaviour here, and this is a part of storytelling. Maho mourned Anri with Nepgear but lightheartedly jokes around Holographic AIs and never talks about their originals => Maho probably haven't met any of them => the circumstances when she first met Nepgear are likely to be so and so. The issues come only after assumption that Maho *must* care about previous events as much as she cares about people on the ship, or that she *must* go full `she remembered what she had done. ▯▯▯▯▯ asked me to ▯▯▯▯ her.` just because of being responsible of developing IS crystal. Nepgear and Histoire know that Maho is technically the reason this world is doomed, but they don't judge for this and even support (which is something Umio failed at back then) her.
Thinking in terms of ability to fight back simply doesn't seem to align with Maho's mindset, just like nobody cared when Tari fell. One character who would probably think in these terms was IF, and... we don't really know how she ended in this timeline, if you think about it.
26:20 To be fair, this alone wouldn't be enough for her to change SO drastically - again, given how she behaves in this post-apocalyptic world.
      31:03 That's a good question.

    • @블소3D
      @블소3D 21 день тому +2

34:10 As someone who's been pushing quite a lot, I must clarify that disagreeing and being upset are completely different things. I prefer focusing on the parts that I don't agree with, since it's more productive and interesting than nodding to other parts or accepting it as it is. Describing a different opinion or interpretation might give some food for thought and help developing your own interpretation better; and I'm open to hear, consider and absorb your opinions as well, to make the understanding of game more three-dimensional.
Of course, the biggest role here must be played by the game itself though: it's not fun to spoil or being spoiled, every explanation and fact must come in order. Sometimes it even pushes to write something that will be refuted in the game later, but perfectly aligns with the plot so far. There's no pressure: the plot is not straightforward, the reasons behind characters actions and decisions are not always clear. Nevertheless, IMHO Maho is one of the most carefully written characters in the series, and the arguments might get a bit too defensive. I apologize if it sounds too assertive, or comes up as attacking Uzume; this never is the intention. I just think, giving a honest opinion is always better than holding off.
37:08 So far it was never stated that it's been 11 years since some kind of event involving IS crystal happened. We just know that Maho and Ziri traveled 11 years from unknown future point to unknown past point before the prologue (i.e. subtract at least 2 years from it). It's possible that they lived like that for 9 years and the past point is just before prologue, but given her sleep in the capsule it's more likely that she went far back (before VII? before V? before mk2?), did some preparations without disturbing the timeline and put herself into sleep until IS crystal is developed and PC Continent has to be destroyed (assuming we're getting her motivation explained in more details later): in this case, the future point must be much closer.
The fact that Compa didn't seem to age is also a hint that the future wasn't that far.
37:47 This is something I completely disagree on. This game is all about implications and small details, just remember the orange room in Planeptower that is completely missable and never appears in the plot but still exists for those who are willingly searching for answers. The game isn't obligated to give an exact answer when a several simple explanations exist, and it willingly lets the player to decide a preferable one. It already gave a lot of clue tho.
After this chapter, even a new possibility appeared: if Grey Sister went in time this far and was there before events of VII, she might've altered these events as well. Did you read the Chirper messages carefully? Are you sure that C-sha, B-sha, K-sha and S-sha are the well-known Gold Third and not just regular named citizens?
38:40 The whole premise about CPUs being protectors who must stay on alert all the time doesn't really align with the stories so far.
The mk2's plot literally starts with a situation where Planeptune and Leanbox are left without this protection. In V, both Neptune and Nepgear are absent from Hyperdimension for years, and it happens before they learn how the time accounting works in Ultradimension. In VII, remember what happens after G arc? The Candidates not only left Hyperdimension, they also gathered Gold Third, the only people who could actually keep an eye on Gamindustri while all CPUs are in other dimension. And as the bad ending in VII proves, it was a legit way to lose everyone (well, except Nepgear, but she was saved by pure chance) at once.
Aside from that, the plot always revolves around just playing together and neglecting the Goddess role, most notably in case of Neptune and Vert.
And of course, Uzume has even better excuse to go on adventure: she could just leave Planeptune because Neptune and Nepgear are here. Seriously, why would they suddenly need Uzume's protection after VII?
And another important thing to consider is existence of Adult Neptune and Croire. Croire would love to see the world spiraling towards oblivion, andif *she* is not here, it implies that something even more 'exciting' is happening elsewhere. Of course the three of them might explore the universe together, Megamira existed and showed that in many details.
If we're making Marvel analogies here, a fitting parallel for Uzume would be Captain Marvel. One of older protectors of Earth and basically the strongest superhero just... Leaves and lets mere humans to deal with many dangers, including Thanos.
Her explanation was `There are a lot of planets, and they don't have you guys`. She doesn't elaborate further, but as long as we don't know where exactly she was, her excuse makes sense.
Let's say, Uzume discovered at least one dimension where Gamindustri and Planeptune exists but Neptune and Nepgear do not (which technically would reflect our world). And for whatever reason warping back and forth is not allowed. Would Uzume abandon such world just because 'what if eight strongest characters in my homeworld fail and need me some day'?

Like one of the main scenes that stook out to me and still remains to this day was when Neptune and the other goddesses were under the influence of Kurome and attempted to kill their sisters, that moment had me shook and was honestly really close to having a canon Conquest Ending happen and the idea of having loved ones who then attempt to kill their own is by itself pretty terrible. Then there's the whole scenario of K-Sha attempting to take out Uni out of her obsession with Noire and if I remember correctly, she almost did! Thank God it didn't end tragically but damn near came close to it.

*1. (Lv 999999 Arfoire)* If we assume that this is actually canon, and not _just_ its name, then this is a _really_ bad sign in regards to how powerful the CPUs are.
Dialogue in _VII_ confirmed that things like stats, EXP, levels, and the concept of level grinding aren't just things that exist for the player's benefit or for the sake of fourth wall jokes; _these concepts actually exist in-universe._
Up until now, we've assumed that the strongest a character could potentially be would be if they reached level 999, that this was a fundamental rule of this universe. And so, to suddenly reveal that it's possible for at least enemies to reach as high as level _999 999_ means that there enemies who can be _a thousand times stronger_ than even _the strongest CPU ever_ could even _hope_ to _potentially_ be.
The power difference at play should be like if an end-of-story shonen manga villain suddenly showed up in chapter 1 and killed everyone with a single attack.
Tl;dr: the CPUs are _pathetically_ weak, power scaling-wise.
*2. (**23:50**)* Can only assume that HDD doesn't actually make a CPU that much physically stronger, if she can't even lift Neptune and Plutia, who have a combined total weight of 77 kilos (169.8 lbs).
I've said it before and I'll say it again until it stops being true: transport the CPUs to the Marvel or DC universes, and there are plenty of regular heroes and villains who would be able to not only put up a good fight against them, but _win._
*3.* So the Nepgear-is-Gohan joke from _Victory_ has returned, as Nepgear is now playing the role of Future Gohan to Maho's Future Trunks.
    Or Madoka to her Homura.
Or, considering that Planeptune is Sega, would that make Maho a reference to Silver the Hedgehog, like how Uzume is one to Shadow?
Now, that's an interesting viewpoint. Is this game the _Sonic '06_ of _Neptunia_ (writing-wise, not "being an unifinished glitchy mess"-wise)?
*4. (102 741 hours)* Yup, 102 741 hours is equal to 4 280.9 days, or 11.7 years. Significantly more than I expected, to be completely honest.
Hey, wait a second. That means that Future IF and Future Compa were _11 years older,_ and _still_ looked _exactly the same._
Alright, it's officially confirmed: those two are some kind of ageless immortals.
*5. (**31:50**)* Pardon my French, but that is *_bullshit._* We were explicitly told that PC Continent doesn't _have_ a CPU as late as the events of VII.
_[rubs temples]_ It's okay, this game isn't canon, it's okay, this game isn't canon...
*6. (Uzume)* In retrospect, we really should have realized sooner how much the writers wrote themselves into a corner with Uzume. How do you create a sequel to _VII_ where the plot has actual stakes without making it a plot hole that Uzume doesn't just immediately solve whatever the problem is in five seconds?
Maybe if they had added a throwaway line by Histoire after Uzume was resurrected where she said something along the lines of "That used up all of your remaining Share Energy, and since Nepgear destroyed your Share Crystal, you won't be able to gather any more of it. You're essentially just a normal human now.", we wouldn't have this problem.
*(QotD)* I... _want_ to say "no" (heck, I've personally _wanted_ this series to get properly dark every once in a while for quite some time now), but after seeing this game, I understand now why the writers have been so reluctant to write genuinely dark scenes. It's not _because_ they're dark, but because these writers clearly can't properly write horror or drama to save their lives. 😔
For one thing, the visual novel format where the characters have to constantly narrate what's happening instead of us getting to see it just flat-out doesn't work for dark scenes.
Second, the writers seem to be completely unwilling to let a dark scene settle and properly sink in, instead just constantly jumping back-and-forth from one thing to the next. Everything that happened between the final battle with Arfoire and Maho getting sent back in time took place over the course of, what five minutes?

      5. Personally, I feel like they decided to retcon the NitroPlus DLC since the PC is connected to gaming. And I feel like, as the series goes on, the Makers themselves don’t really matter that much anymore (due to licensing and such). Like VII, except the Gold Third, only gave DLC to them and one of them got canned because of licensing issues.
In-game reason? Well… you’ve gotta wait on that.

QOTD: I believe it did get dark seeing Compa, IF, and Histiore gone is like the Death Star blowing up Alderaan.
I’m comparing this game with Super Neptunia RPG Bombyx Mori enslaved gameindustri the CPU’s are gone Planetune is underwater😭.
And Superdimension Neptune VS SEGA Hard Girls when Neptune disappear😱 and IF is traveling on a barren wasteland.
MEGADIMENSION NEPTUNIA is almost dark if you think about it I personally blame Kurome as the villain😠.
So yeah I believe it got a little bit more dark than usual. However this is a Neptunia game it will always end with a nice ending😁👍👍
    What are your thoughts🤔?

I feel like what we learn next would be a pretty good reason for Uzume *not* appearing as Grey Sister would likely find her actively detrimental

Nah, she’d still be extremely useful. Which is why the devs wrote her out. They must have realized it too. (I point out how briefly then as well)

@@SenpaiBladebesides the spoiler new power, you know how this Arfoire runs on shares instead of delusion? So the sharing field would make her stronger?

QOTD: honestly, no. like sure, literally everyone is dead by the end of this episode but as far as the other victims (most likely the other cpus and candidates) are concerned, their demises were outside of the chain of events we witnessed. we dont know when or how they died, and at leats to me it felt like it happened a fairly long time ago.
basically what i'm trying to say is that if literally everyone from the main cpus and the canidates and everyone from the ship died in very short succession, that would have been overkill for this series. instead, the "end of the world" and all its casualties were spread out far enough for it to still be dark, but not to the point where it would be considered edgy or grimdark

QOTD: Personally I don't think the game went too dark. To me the darker aspects make the light hearted moments more meaningful.

38:50 Exactly. You get people like no tomorrow always choosing the least likely scenario for Uzume because it fits their narrative on SVS.
People need to replay the true ending of VII. Was "I'm home, everyone" not obvious enough?
Oh and 31:58. This just proves SVS isn't canon. A big part of mk2 is that 80% of the shares have gone to Arfoire while the rest are held by the four nation. So that would mean the PC continent had 0%. mk2 shows Rom and Ram suffering at 10%. So 0% shares likely means death.
