Thanks for the video. I wanted to mention that this is the same engine and oil filter configuration that's in my 2011 VW Routan. I had a heck of a time figuring this out myself.

I'm sure that you get comments like this every year but, being a first time Dodge Caravan owner, this has to be the craziest way I've change an oil filter...on any vehicle. Practically mess-free and easy, I wish more American car manufacturers implemented more innovations like this with the end-user in mind; I guess this was something introduced during their Daimler-Chrysler days - simple awesome

Glad I could help. Yes the owners manual could use more detail. It's almost like Dodge is making you take it to the dealer for an oil change! I also bought an oil extractor that sucks the oil up through the dip stick tube so now & can do an oil change without having to get under the car. Thats a feature I like.

Great video! I would have been lost without it. I always change my own oil, but I had never seen anything like this design.
I actually prefer it now, but at first I was just puzzled. This video was very well done and helpful!

Yeah I knew that about 3 seconds after I said it, but I was not going to rerecord. Ya got me.

My 04 Cavalier had the oil filter located on the top too. I like it alot better then under the engine.

Hey Iceman, Thanks for the video. I had a GL450 before I bought the VW Routan SEL 2011 . Having the German design in mind found the oil filter. Just wanted to confirm because Routans are the design bought from Daimler and came across you video.
BTW the oil filter for the Routan is 10955.
    Cheers
    Bobby

Found the Fram, Mopar and Purolator oil filters on Amazon, the Fram and Purolator qualified for Amazon prime shipping, all three filters priced under 10.00 each.

You saved me time. I wonder if any quick lube actually changes it considering the double price of filter. Glad I did it myself. Thanks for the help.

Thanks iceguy ... It took me about 10 minutes to figure out where the filter housing was hiding and it was nice to have your video to confirm. There does not appear to be any markings to indicate that the oil filter cartridge goes in this housing. I purchased the filter from Auto Zone (STP S10955) and it was the only one on the shelf. Another vehicle the 3.6 Pentastar is used in: VW Routan (which is kind of a re-badged Caravan but there are some major differences in the suspension).

Great video, thanks so much! Love the filter numbers at the top of the screen btw, thanks! My local Oriellys had to go to the backroom to get the filter. They dont keep these filters out on the shelves for some reason. I would assume its a commonly purchased item nowadays. Also, is the stock oil drain plug 13mm?? If it is, mine was just jammed in there by whoever did the last oil change. I stripped it after putting so much damn effort into turning the ratchet that the van itself was shifting...

This is the 2nd video I've seen that doesn't actually show the changing of the oil filter.

all the power is in the top end, hence dohc and more valves, bigger heads, bottom ends are the same. dodge has the right idea, just need to eliminate the cat converters, dual exhaust, with better exhaust manifolds. and offer manual 5 or 6 speeds. better air flow to intake, and increase the height of intake. and offer the minivan with a Hemi or at least a 360. then you have something. Mopar or no car.

    it was actually the 3.3,3.8, and 4.0 in 2010... not the 3.3 ,3.6,and 4.0 in 2010
