I think it's too late for china. There's no end in sight for the downturn. Soon the government will make it hard to hire foreigners if it's not the case already - because many local graduates are forced to take odd jobs at the moment. Take your skills and money and find an emerging market in Africa to exploit or find an internship anywhere else (TW, Msia, Thailand or the West) in a major company while hopefully the economic downturn subsides. It's a shame you didnt graduate 15 years ago...

Since you’re adept at Python you have a number of up-skilling moves to consider just on the Python side.
There’s AI of course (numpy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, tsfresh/tsfel).
Then there’s platforms/infra/networking automation with an eye on Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) roles. So that would be scripting to support application deployment, configuration,
monitoring and so on specially in a Linux setting.
As a tip for today, I would consider making a prospective application to Bytedance on their careers page.
COMAC might be interesting if you had an eye on aircraft engineering.
There are also companies in China doing interesting things like building next generation humanoid robots to look at.
You already mentioned BYD which is intelligent - automotive companies are a very good avenue to explore 👍

Thing is that with so many unemployed graduates, you basically have little to no chance of securing work in China. The whole point of the education partnership programs China has with countries in Africa and the Middle East is to provide better quality education for poorer nations so that you can go back to your own country and support its growth which is really good. Trying to find work or stay in China post grad kinda goes against the point of the investment that China has made by subsidizing a lot of this. I used to be in a similar position after graduating where I really wanted to go over and work, but with no experience I would have been limited to English teaching which sucks and has no progression. Now I'm 4 years post grad and in consulting, I can pivot towards this later if I want to as my firm offers global transfers etc.
