Little question from a fellow youtuber: do you prepare a text ? do you use a teleprompter ? Or are naturally good to improvise on the fly ;) nice job 👍🏻
Tracking is king. Without the motion controllers VR wouldn't be as entertaining and immersive as it is. While I'm not saying the inside-out tracking of Rift S is going to be terrible, I'd rather have the controllers that get occluded less. I choose the Oculus Rift CV1 because the touch controllers were superior to the Vive wands. I'll have my pre-order in on May 1st.
@@hellyeahreactions The inside out tracking just won't cut it for intense games like Echo Arena. Also the screen isn't a very big jump, considering the Quest's screen/s is higher res than it. There's also no FoV increase. From what we know about the Index so far, it does all these things better than the Rift S, higher res screen, wider FoV, and lighthouse tracking. The Rift S is fine for it's pricepoint, but as a vr enthusiest, I want the best experience.
@@CircuitLord Not to mention it has an LCD instead of OLED; it doesn't have REAL headphones; and, probably worst of all, it doesn't have mechanical IPD adjustment, and that means many people won't be able to even use it for prolonged period without discomfort. That's why the Rift S is a fail for enthusiast.
@@CircuitLord i think oculus know a fair bit more about the Rift-S and how it works on 'their own games' than you do. The tracking is fine - its been tested extensively and wouldn't be releaed unless is was sublime, which it is.
First Comment.. TOTALLY worth it.. obviously depending on the Price of them with or without the Valve HMD. I am still inclined however to get Valve index at launch since I gotta feeling that it will sell out so quickly.. I just hope that it won't be as overpriced as HTC vive pro **UPDATE** I pre ordered the Valve index kit which got sold out within 90min in the UK
same the price will be the big factor, but im a die hard vr nerd, so i still might stick with the Index since its a valve product and sold strictly for gaming, and well its VALVE not FB
@@boostedz6670 that's exactly what I was planning and well. My initial plan was to get Vive pro while waiting for knuckles release but then Valve made the news. I am seriously considering pre ordering it eventhough I am against pre ordering but I feel like its gonna go out of stoke very quickly since most PCVR fans are desperate for an upgrade :-)
@@stuart3712 I usually wait after launch for reviews and then get it after few months, same for games. TBH I was tempted to get Rift S with all the good reviews re: tracking, the only downside was the LCD and lack of IPD but I could live with it for only £400 :)
I have already signed off the HTC Cosmos for a few reasons. One, they decided to use inside out tracking which is great and all for portability but for me inside out tracking was not reliable. Valve has already made a move and has the best controllers in my opinion. Valve has also gave info on their product. HTC remains to higher their prices because they became the norm. I was never a Rift fan, I have a WMR headset and was going to wait on the Cosmos but started to get tired of their silence, which does not show confidence to me. I think Valve's index is something the whole VR community has been waiting for, I hope for the best.
I have been looking forward to the knuckles for quite a while, so as long as they are still usable with the Vive, and don’t cost too much, then it something I will be trying to get!
They are usable with the Vive and Vive pro. I ordered some. Been waiting for like 1.5 years and am SO excited for them next month. Will only be able to play like 10 games that fully support them though haha
I own Samsung Odyssey WMR and HP reverb looks like great ,comfortable headset with the superb resolution and I was thinking to got it.BUT!!! I hate ,I really hate controlers. Its rubish totally rubish.I play mostly FPS like Contractors or Onward but playing asvell Beat Saber.I use them in gun stock and tracking is terrible, absolutely make me mad.Sometimes changing magazin ,the bateries fall of controler on the floor. As Seba said you cant aim properly ,sometimes in game gun drop me down becouse I lost tracking.Never more.Hopefully Valve save my life.
@@icokokrI only play DCS and x-plane so controllers are not a big deal that being said if I can get something like the Reverb with controllers that's a bonus and worth the wait to see what the Index is about
Would like reverb but htc cosmos will jave same resolution. Not down to wait. Don’t know what to do. I mainly simrace, reverb with 4k panel or index with vive pro res
@@brodeur212It depends of your game preferences and what PC configuration you can afford. These high res headsets need high end PC ,at least Gtx 1080.In my experience I dont want inside out tracking anymore.I like high resolution and Reverb is it,but not these controlers anymore.I want to play asvell VR master league and WMR is not really headset for that.
I hate that we're so close to launch and don't have any prices yet. Like we're a month away, do I need to save up or will I be able to afford them right away. Valve are holding the cards way too close to their chest at this point.
The way I see it is even if Index is too expensive, people will be selling their Vives and Vive Pros for a good price, which you can pair with Index Controllers. If we're lucky HTC might even lower the price of new Vives, we'll see.
Damn, I was 100% sold on selling my Rift and upgrading to the refreshed Rift S and keep that till CV2 but now Valve has jumped into the mix so I'll wait. The Knuckles controllers for sure poop on the current Touch controllers but I'll be spending a hefty chunk of change switching over from Oculus to Valve's HMD. I'm sure it'd be worth it but a year or two later I'm afraid I'd be doing the exact same thing when CV2's announced. Honestly though, the biggest thing holding me back is my Oculus game library. If Oculus opened up support for 3rd party HMD's the process of switching over wouldn't be as hard nor one sided. Hopefully Open XR will bridge that gap in the near future. It's a real treat that SteamVR already supports this though. I have had quite a few memorable experiences in Steam VR's ecosystem while playing on my Rift. It'd be nice to be able to say the same about Oculus while using a Valve or any other HMD outside of Oculus's manufacturing.
I don't think CV2 is coming to at least 2022. I think Oculus is waiting unitl more tech has matured before they proceed and instead will focus on entry level mass market headsets until then. I can understand your reluctance to change ecosystems, but I am fairly confident that you'll get a solid 3 years out of the Index/Knuckles, at the very least.
"Honestly though, the biggest thing holding me back is my Oculus game library. If Oculus opened up support for 3rd party HMD's the process of switching over wouldn't be as hard nor one sided." Look up a piece of software called 'Revive', it lets you play Oculus store stuff on a 'OpenVR' headset (like a Vive, or others) Oculus is kinda ruining VR, walled garden store, exclusivity deals, etc, theres a reason the company's CEO has left the company already.
Price it's going to be the key, if I have to purchase everything separate (HMD, Controllers, Base Stations) then probably not the Index. Until I see the specs, I don't even know if my 1070 GPU will run the Index, waiting for May 1!
A steam page was accidentally put up about the index and it said that the minimum GPU was a gtx 970 and the recommended GPU was a gtx 1070. After the page was taken down valve confirmed it was real
I presume Valve will bundle the hmd, knuckles and 2 lighthouses for best bang. Last year Valve told Road to VR they are manufacturing the lighthouses themselves going for a 60 dollar ea. wholesale price point. If they can bundle for ease of purchase and at discount, great.
Times like this would be so much better if money wasn't a headache to obtain, I'm extremely excited to see what this headset and controllers have in store, Can't wait for the release to at least see a price tag!
I am new to VR and have been watching your shows all the time. From your suggestion I today just got delivered my Pimax 5K+!! The problem is I am new to VR and do not have base stations or controllers (Pimax order is in). What stations and controllers should I get? Do I need 2.0 stations? Should I wait for Valve Index Controllers? what should I do to get up and playing? Thank you
I think Lord Gaben stated in one of his emails that the items will be available seperately or in bundles. The Controllers are also backwards compatible with the Lighthouse 1.0 Tracking Stations (Shipped with the OG Vive).
@@raydelatorre9532 you can get the vave ones in june and they will be good quality. or you can wat who knows how long, and probably pay even more for pimax ones that are lower quality. not really a question at this point. it would make more sense to get the valve ones even if you have a pimax headset.
@@Nostrildumbass Yea release date will be a big part of that, but also hardware requirements. The pimax headsets are cool and all, but even for the entry-level model your bscly going to need at the very least a 2080, if not several and/or 'Ti' versions, or you have to go back to 45fps like back in oculus devkit days. While what you really want is to head towards 120/180 fps. Point im trying to make is that the pimaxes will be a considerable investment, as a 1080 (good enough for other VR headsets) simply isnt going to cut it. Pimax headsets will be cool 2 years from now when your average gamer has a 2080 or amd's equivalent, at the moment they are too much overkill, for some sort of strange stretched-fov experience. Dont get me wrong, they are awesome headsets if you just look at the center, but imo more resolution and fov should translate to beeing able to look around without moving your head, and the current way pimax headsets work really doesnt allow for that.
Can't wait to get mine. I don't care they changed the name, like Chicago they can change it to the Willi's Tower forever but we still call it Sears Tower. These are Knuckles for us forever. lol
I dont think these are better - ergonomics of the touch controllers are WAY better. Much smaller and less clunky. Also buttons and anologe pads feel better quality too. Of course Valve have time to tidy the Index controllers a little but i dout they'll change the ergonomics. Well see, but i can see people divided as theres no clear better controller overall.
Knuckles look like holding two mini Bows. Dont look comfortable. I'll stick with Touch. I can imagine these actually being too big for most Japanese hands as we prefer smaller controllers. Touch Controllers are perfect for the shape of the hands.
@@mixedrealityTV I think so too. It has me excited like when Vive was announced years ago and I pre-ordered it. I forgot to mention I also own PSVR and I have tried Vive Pro and Pimax at CES. I can't wait to see the new content Valve will develop in conjunction with the Index and Knuckles. It will be good for the VR industry as a whole I think.
Big question i have is, Im running the rift hybrid setup for fullbody tracking in vrchat, I know its possible to connect the index controllers and calibrate them to work, but im not sure if they come with watchman dongles, Would you perhaps know if they do? I know i can flash steam controller dongles to work but thats more money i dont want to spend lol. Since i already have the vive base stations i was going to get the valve index piece by piece
Lots of headsets to chose from coming up. I do know I will be getting the quest. Im still on the fence over what other vr headset to purchase after that.
i missed the first wave of pre-orders but i have a reserve for the second wave and will order it the second it opens up again. wont get it till late july which sucks.
So how do these work with normal VR games and the vive/pimax, for instance in VR-Chat or Onward, do these work fine or do they require some settings to be tweaked, and do they have any significant games where you simply have to power up your other controllers?
Controllers are really nice. I'm going to wait though because I'm still happy with my vive controllers. I'm more interested in the valve Hmd coming in May.
I'm with you there. HMD is priority, but I really want the "Knuckles" controllers sooner than later as well. Tight budgeted as I have to be, I'll have to wait for a while at least on the controllers.
They're being released for sale on the same day anyway, and the Index is being bundled with these, so there's not really any "wait" to it, just a matter of deciding whether to take the bundle or just the HMD alone. (And based on the games that will be taking advantage of the Index controllers, the bundle seems by far the best choice to me.)
I am an Avid Touch lover since ground start, But I must say even tho they clearly had to come by oculus touch inspiration, these are going a little past my expectations already. I can only imagine now that holding a sword, bow arrow, or even just landing a punch, you will see people start trowing HARDER punch and blow, since using force for your hand pretty much always implies you are going to use strenght on your move ! Nice
Have you seen the recent Boneworks demo video from Node? One of the coolest features about the force capacitive grip they showed off, is being able to two hand a long object like a crowbar, and slide it between your hands in a perfectly natural and intuitive manner. Simply grip with one hand whilst slightly loosening the other, and the object will slide same as in real life.
The biggest problem I had with inside out tracking is like you said, FPS games. Aiming is a problem but it can be rectified by practicing to forward place your trigger hand a bit. But throwing grenade is always a problem. You can look at your hand when throwing but it is awkward and lowers your throwing accuracy.
Been following these since they were announced, very excited as I've held off from buying controllers (since backing pimax) and had to make do with driver4vr and joy-cons until now.
Hi Sebastian....Didn't mention price of index controllers....? Also will they be available bundled with lighthouse(s) v2? How many Lighthouses needed to track index controllers and Pimax 8K headset?
He doesnt know, because he just re-reviewed the Knuckles EV3 devkit controllers that work with his v1 lighthouses. The controllers are not actually the Valve Index controllers (they will likely be very similar, but still, these are not Valve Index controllers)
I have a question. Will the Valve Index have its own full body tracking censers used for VRchat or do I have to get the ones used for the the Vive and use them with the Valve Index? These are the full body tracking censers. www.vive.com/us/vive-tracker/ If the Vive full body censers can be used for other VR headsets and not just the Vive can you mention that in your next video?
I dont think anything like this is planned. You will also have to stick to the Lighthouse 1.0 tracking stations as the new ones won't be backwards compatible while the 1.0 stations will be forwards compatible (work with the Index HMD)
I don't want to preorder it until I know if it has full-body tracking or support for the Vive trackers. If it has the Lighthouses again, I want to believe it could have support through modding since it's the same technology, even if it's not official.
Last time I did not really adjust the sling angle correctly. Also, the new touch controllers are a bit smaller than the original touch which is not so great for my hands.
I've owned an original HTC Vive since 2017, loved it, hate the controllers. Ever since the "knuckle" controller prototypes were around, I've been craving them, and after hearing from the leak last November about Valve developing the Index to go along with the controllers, I was sold instantly. I've been waiting months, I'm going to order my Index as soon as pre-orders open, and give my Vive to my best friend :) I will never ever buy an Oculus brand headset, so there is no choice for me to make. The Index is the one for me!
Until Valve Index announcement, I was considering the Rift S, but also torn because it's not much of a step up in resolution and has LCD and no real change in FOV,...BUT now with the Index announcement, there is renewed hope for a real VR upgrade. So that is my plan, but just the HMD for now, as I'm sure it will still be enough to have to really justify against my bank account.
not only is it not much of an upgrade. its a downgrade in some areas and its not pushing vr headsets in anyway. its still a headsets with screens and apair of lenses. valve has filed multiple patents that if they have integrated them all in the index its going to be pushing the bar on what a vr headset is. but thats a massive fingers crossed that valve have done that.
Just be aware that while the Valve Index will try new stuff and has plenty going for it, resolution isnt really one of those things. Its certainly not a bad resolution either, but its also not 'next gen vr'
I'm a Rift guy and will probably grab the S, but the knuckles look pretty great not gonna lie. Are the knuckles enough to get me to jump ship to the Index? No. I really don't want to either spend the extra money, and I'm looking forward to the inside-out advantages.
Advantages? How so? Seems more like disadvantages to me. Lighthouse tracking effectively makes your entire room your playspace with virtually no blind spots. It allows the most natural and varied stances with the least tracking loss by far.
@@SheepAmongG.O.A.T Yes, seriously. Annoying blind spots and inability to put your hands close to your head don't sound like advantages to me. I've used lighthouse tracking for near 2000 hours of time in VR now, and since the day I put my lighthouses up, I've not had to touch or think about them once. They give me perfect tracking throughout my entire room with effectively zero blind spots. They also allow me to enjoy full body tracking, something that no other system allows. Switching away from lighthouse would be an absolute deal breaker for me.
@@UnknownSquid Wow you're so blessed. I have a 2 sensor setup with my rift and haven't had to touch it either. Who f cares. Rift S is room scale and 360 as big as I'll want it to be out of the box
@@SheepAmongG.O.A.T I'm not boasting, I was just wanting to hear what these advantages were that you weren't saying. 360 Roomscale isn't special, the original Rift is the only VR headset that was ever not 360 roomscale by default out of the box. But whatever, I wasn't trying to bug you or pick a fight. I'm just surprised to see people talking about headmounted camera based tracking like it's anything other than a downgrade or a compromise.
Would these work with the Pimax VR and would these be the best ones we can get for Pimax? In a year or earlier (after I save enough money), I am planning to buy a good 2080 ti gaming PC and a full on Pimax 5K+ VR set with Cybershoes and possibly the ForceTube and I am curious as to what other VR related things will be available in a year. I'll assume getting the Pimax set will still be a great choice then but I'll tune in to your channel to figure that out over time. Thank you so much for all of your videos, I've never owned a VR set before and I only played 2-3 different VR games for 5-10 minutes on end while renting them and I can't wait to get into VR and see what I've been missing for all these years.
I would strongly suggest you try a few headsets before buying, especially because the pimax headsets have weird stretched fov that really doesnt look good at all. And you might wanna try something a bit more affordable to begin with. Not saying i dont admire your enthusiasm for getting the best that VR has to offer, but your already talking something like 4000 bucks of hardware lol, might wanna start a bit smaller.
@@suicidalbanananana Thank you for the advice, I indeed need to look into the other options and test them if I can ever find a place to test the other ones out. Btw, I thought the bigger FOV would be awy better and real life like but I gotta think about that streatched view issue as well. After I watched the youtuber *Tyriel Wood* review on Pimax then I got kinda turned off by Pimax but it would've been so cool to get access to both Steam and Oculus games on a great resolution and FOV VR set and for now Pimax seems like the best tool in the town for that but I hope that when it's time to make my purchase, there will be other good ones or Pimax will update theirs and I'll get the best next gen VR set ever, that's the dream :D
@@mixedrealityTV I don't have mine. I can't figure out why my kickstarter 5k+ hasn't arrived yet. According to the Pimax spreadsheet it went from "to over seas warehouse" to "shipped" on Feb 18th (over six weeks).
Your previous comments a few months back also included that you actually thought the Oculus Touch felt more ergonomic than the index (knuckles) controller. Has your opinion change now that the Touch is slightly smaller now and you have large hands? Tracking is super important to me. I think for a small apartment the Rift S tracking would be ideal for me.
Can they work with windows mixed reality headsets? Thinking to get the HP reverb and this controllers if it is possible as HP controllers are the same as old model.
Reverb has great resolution, but Index isn't far behind at all, and has a significantly greater FoV. The tracking quality that lighthouse offers is also indisputably the best available to date. You would only perhaps be able to use these controllers with the Reverb if you also get lighthouse base stations to go with them, and then use third party software, but there's no guarantee this will happen, and third party Frankenstein setups are notoriously awkward, prone to issues or breaking when one system updates without the other.
For me the question is not Rift S vs. Index... but rather buy Index vs. buy only knuckles and wait for another headset. I don't want any compromises - especially because I'm playing first-person shooters competitively - that would really suck if I can't aim. Any idea if Index has eye-tracking to save performance? :)
I think you misunderstood the part he was talking not being able to aim. He was referring to camera based headsets like the Rift-S there, not the Index. The Index uses lighthouse tracking same as your Vive, and has no issues with controllers close to the face. If you play competitively, then I'd imagine the resolution and considerable FoV increase (135 vs 110) should be of great benefit to you.
@@UnknownSquid No no, I get it. I just wanted to say Rift S is not an option for me because of this. :) Now I will just wait if Index headset is a worthy upgrade from Vive and then decide if I buy it. But I'm definitely buying knuckles either way. :) Yeah better resolution and FoV will be great advantage; however, I'm afraid of performance demands - that's why I'm curious about eye-tracking. I don't want to upgrade my graphics card yet.
Rift S announced to boos, jeers, Valve almost released and is overwhelmingly Cheers. Yay for Valve, I’ll be missing the week/month long battery life of the Rift Touch controllers though and the convenience of being able to easily swap the AA battery out mid game. Ill probably have to buy 2-3 sets of Index controllers the satisfy my use case where I use vr 12-18 hours per day.
Grab a multiport USB fast charger. Cheap to buy and will full charge a controller within an hour. Get a pair of long USB cables to go with it, and you can even keep playing certain games without needing to stop.
UnknownSquid i had an occasion today where my oculus touch battery after a full week of usage reported low battery warning, without leaving the game i was able to swap the battery out during my recording an episode on my minecraft lets play using vr channel.
@@LightningAussie Yeah, I mean that's obviously the ideal. I'm not sure why no one has just made them both swappable and rechargeable inside or outside the controller yet. Seems like the obvious go to solution, but oh well. I've always had a similar gripe with my full body trackers, in that they only last 5 to 6 hours vs the 10 hours my main controllers last. Means I've got to find a moment or two whenever I sit down for a bit, to plug in for a few minutes and keep them going. Only takes 30-40ish mins to charge them, but is still a nuisance grabbing some wires. Is a slight shame that lighthouse tracking draws more power than the led tracking method, but it's worth it for the superior functionality. Hopefully this kinda thing will stop being a problem in future.
I love the sound of the new controllers. That being said sometimes I feel like the only person on earth who actually likes the trackpads better then a thumbstick.
Not the only one. I really liked the trackpads myself too. I did often feel like they over relied on the pad a bit, when a simple pair of additional regular buttons like the Index has would have been great, but otherwise the trackpads were a very immersive and highly versatile way to navigate VR. But oh well, everything else about the Index controllers is a solid step forward regardless.
Are the Valve Index Controllers going to work with lighthouses version one base stations is my question. I have the Pimax 5k+ and bought 2 lighthouses version one with two of those lousy Vive wands. So I would like to be able to use the base stations until Pimax gives out the version two stations.
Only if you also add the HTC/Valve base-stations alongside your Rift setup, which would make the whole ordeal kinda expensive and silly. I suggest awaiting reviews once the product is actually available, the specs as leaked right now arent all that amazing (they're not bad, but its not "the next generation of VR" yet either) it's going to come down to the price of the headset if its a good buy or not.
I have a PSVR which is great but the tracking is very very bad. So Tracking is king for me. I was going to get an HTC vive but when I saw the knuckles I decided to wait because those controlers seem so much better. So I am waiting for the Valve index. My purchase decision will come down to pricing. As much as I love VR, I know now that even with the ease of the PSVR, I don't use it all the time so I would only be willing to purchase at no higher than 700 for the full set up and even that is pushing it. A 500-600 price point would mean an immediate pre-order
I have sold all my PCVRs. The only thing VR I have to guide me over is the Go. Would buy a Rift S would also buy a Index depends on the specs... Quest is a done deal, defininitely buying it.
There is another part of V.R. many are missing.... what are games to play these new H.M.D.'s on and how well are they supported in Valve, HTC Vive, PiMAX and Oculus......I'll wait to see how well the Rift S compares to the Valve Index system. Price and Support are a Big concerns for me. I already have a Orig. Rift and a Samsung Odyssey+ Thanks to Sebastian for testing the Samsung Odyssey+ and Orig. Odyssey and telling us all about it. So far it's the Best $299 I've spend on Black Friday sale last year. I modded my Odyssey+ so it's comfortable now.
Index is definitely on my list of vr headsets to buy. Originally it was vive on the top of my list and I'll probably get the index if the price Is from $500-$800
@@mixedrealityTV Sad. I don't have the most money so I'm gonna get the Rift S since it's most likely cheaper than all the other headsets coming out but the knuckles would've been a nice bonus lol
And so we know...NO valve has not officially announced the knuckles as the controller for the index yet officially, so the question lies the same, how the hell do you know? Can we stop making up hype for things that do not exist and have not been confirmed? UA-camrs are all getting in on hype to generate views and this guy is as much full of BS and most of the other “Speculators” out there. Stop making your videos as if you know something, cuz you know nothing yet. Nobody has even touched the valve index so how can you know they’re sending knuckles with it? Leaked pictures? Like those have NEVER been wrong or anything right? ...downvote this bs video.
I was like you but a friend of mine get a Pimax and apparently he his not satisfy. In addition the headset is unconfortable... So I'm not fully decide but I think it will be Index !
@@Maxos43 If I go with Pimax I would do the Vive deluxe audio strap mod (If Pimax hasn't come out with their own version by then that theyve been working on) and that should solve that :)
Sounds great so far. Are you sure all we would need is 2 lighthouses for full 360 degree tracking of the controllers? How can the 2 lighthouse lasers spot the controllers if hidden behind your back? Dont understand what you just said about that. The original Rift we needed at least 3. please explain more about this. Whatever VR headset sounds the best upgrade for me, I am going to wait till these are released and out in the mainstream for a while to hear the reactions from the users which I know there will be a hundreds of reviews on all of them. I hope they dont price the "valve Index" ridiculously high like the Pimax. I come from using the Oculus Rift 1 VR products, so I have none of these Valve products. We shall see.
The Lighthouses are not sensors. They are "dumb" lighthouses, projecting light out into the playspace. Sensors on the headset and controller look for the light projected by the lighthouses, and based on when they sense that light, the sensors can calculate their positions in space. The lighthouse system is an inside-out system.
This is how the Vive has worked since 2016. You place the lighthouses in opposite corners of your room mounted high on the walls. The reason you only need two compared to the Rift sensors is that lighthouse base stations have significantly greater field of view (140 degrees vs 90) and far greater range (7m vs 2.6m). It effectively makes your entire room your playspace with virtually no blindspots. If needed you can still use up to four lighthouses for truly flawless and omni present tracking.
@@TheOGjarilo thank you for the info on the lighthouses and that they are inside out operation. Just shows you how much I dont know about Vive products.
@@FarrelClement Thank you very much for your explaination. Also from the other two replies and your reply I see how much different lighthouses are compared to Oculus tracking.
Why exactly? Whilst lighthouse can do much larger than other methods, there's no minimum range on it. The only time you'll ever have a tracking issue is if you start knocking your controllers right into the lighthouses, similar to putting a controller too close to an Oculus camera. Unless your room is a really crazy shape with jutting obstructions, you should be able to use it exactly like you would the Cosmos.
Investigate if this is even possible, because im kinda thinking it isnt. Cosmos supporting Vive lighthouses? that seems plausible. Cosmos supporting Valve Index new lighthouses/controllers? seems less plausible.
I am so excited for the Valve Index ^^... Looks like they are doing everything right for us enthusiasts that oculus did wrong with their rift s =D (I can be wrong, but it strongly seems like that to me ^^)- Hopefully it will be affordable. I think, that valve is fed up with business devices produced by HTC that too less people can afford and produce their own HMD to keep up with oculus on the private costumer market especially the oculus store - this would explain their direct attack on Oculus (Reveal of the HMD right after the release of the Rift S - Pointing out the IPD and Outside-In tracking, nearly similar release date, thats too much for a coincident). PS: I hope for a USB-C connection as well, since valve is in the consortium of Virtual Link =D
@@suicidalbanananana I think they are concentrated on enterprise and VR arcades. Rather than consumer, as they are working on a sort of wireless streaming service for large arcades.
@@suicidalbanananana My experience with the TP-cast was awful, 20-30 minute set up times sometimes to get it to work. It was the vive wireless adapter that really was a god send. I hope Valve does something in-house of their own as a wireless solution to be honest.
It will be hard for me to switch to the Valve Index , because i already have plenty of Games from the Oculus Store. But to be honest , i prefer stay with a company that i already know , and Oculus has already proved to me that they care about their customers .
@@mixedrealityTV good to know . This year i'm going to stick with Oculus , they have done a great job and i believe in the future of the standalone vr headset. 😊👍
Are the Index controllers compatable with the HTC? Or do I need an Index Headset? I'm assuming that they're compatable, since they're compatable with the Lighthouse System, but I just don't want to waste my money when I need an entirely new headset. Also, how does the controllers work with games that don't natively support the Index controllers? Example: Fallout 4 VR, The Lab, Job Simulator, Rick & Morty, etc.
They still have the normal buttons so they will still work with all Vive wand compatible games. The Knuckles DV were and the index controllers will probably be compatible with any and all lighthouse based HMDs. That includes the index, the Vive and the pimax.
Hello, would someone be so kind to help me? My English level is bad and I have a hard time understanding the videos, my question is ... Does Oculus rift controller also have sensors to recognize the 5 fingers? If so, the only difference with valve index controllers would be that they are more comfortable and detect the pressure? Thanks in advance: D
So if I have a 1050ti, and an i5 7600 with 16G of RAM, should I just get a Rift S? I want to play stuff like Skyrim and Fallout but I have to get it by July 1st.
Theres already a specialized controller from that that will pull your fingers back based on what your holding/squeezing. Obviously these come from Asia xD
Hopefully valve sell these for an affordable price so that HTC will have another Vive competitor. The Rift S isn't really a Vive competitor and neither are the WMR headsets.
I want to save up a bunch of money and buy a new VR computer, the Index headset and controllers and a wireless adapter. That is the best that VR gets so far, until haptic suits and full body tracking enter the market.
Hi . I am working with the Knuckles EV3 y this is the best controllers that I have tried until now... If you do any comment about Valve Index Headset , it would great !!! Thanks Best Regards
Are you going to wait for the Valve Index or are you going to get the Rift S? How important is tracking for you?
Tracking and wireless are the two most important features for me. I'm waiting for the Index controllers. My light houses are ready already:P
Little question from a fellow youtuber: do you prepare a text ? do you use a teleprompter ? Or are naturally good to improvise on the fly ;) nice job 👍🏻
Valve 100% technically and on principle, won't support Facebook.
I'll have my pre-order in on May 1st.
for me its Valve Index olmost 100% sure
I'll be buying these with the Index as my very first VR set up and I'm excited,

Rifter for three years, but the Rift S is a fail and Rift 2 is MIA. Getting an Index!
Same here, going Index.
Why the s is a fail? Have you try it?
I just hope that it won't be as overpriced as HTC vive pro
**UPDATE** I pre ordered the Valve index kit which got sold out within 90min in the UK
same the price will be the big factor, but im a die hard vr nerd, so i still might stick with the Index since its a valve product and sold strictly for gaming, and well its VALVE not FB

If I had the money I'd get this for boneworks
I have already signed off the HTC Cosmos for a few reasons. One, they decided to use inside out tracking which is great and all for portability but for me inside out tracking was not reliable. Valve has already made a move and has the best controllers in my opinion. Valve has also gave info on their product. HTC remains to higher their prices because they became the norm. I was never a Rift fan, I have a WMR headset and was going to wait on the Cosmos but started to get tired of their silence, which does not show confidence to me. I think Valve's index is something the whole VR community has been waiting for, I hope for the best.
Thanks, this helped me persuade my dad to let me have the Index Controllers.
Welcome!
I have been looking forward to the knuckles for quite a while, so as long as they are still usable with the Vive, and don’t cost too much, then it something I will be trying to get!
Me too!!
They are usable with the Vive and Vive pro. I ordered some. Been waiting for like 1.5 years and am SO excited for them next month. Will only be able to play like 10 games that fully support them though haha
Thanks but you're about a month too late already know what's going on now
I literally just bought HTC Vive Pro recently... even though I have controllers, I'm totally buying the index controllers!
I have also vive pro and going to upgrade controllers as soon as possible.

The way I see it is even if Index is too expensive, people will be selling their Vives and Vive Pros for a good price, which you can pair with Index Controllers. If we're lucky HTC might even lower the price of new Vives, we'll see.
Great info Seb,thanks for the heads up 😎👍
I have a Vive and a Pimax 5K+ and I plan on picking up the Index or at least the Index controllers.
If Oculus opened up support for 3rd party HMD's the process of switching over wouldn't be as hard nor one sided." Look up a piece of software called 'Revive', it lets you play Oculus store stuff on a 'OpenVR' headset (like a Vive, or others)
Oculus is kinda ruining VR, walled garden store, exclusivity deals, etc, theres a reason the company's CEO has left the company already.
Question: Can the Valve Index work with ProTube rifle stocks? If not are there any plans for support?
Great review changes my thought
Great!
Nice! Wait for it.
Thank you
I wonder if you will be able to buy the Index Controllers seperately and use them with an OG Vive
I think Lord Gaben stated in one of his emails that the items will be available seperately or in bundles. The Controllers are also backwards compatible with the Lighthouse 1.0 Tracking Stations (Shipped with the OG Vive).
Yes you can. I ordered mine in the first wave of controllers. Can't wait for June to be here!
Sebastian, should I get the valve index controllers or wait for the pimax controllers? What do you think
Hmmm... there is too much uncertainty about the Pimax controllers. At the moment I would vouch for Index controllers.
Thanks Sebastian! And thank you for your awesome show!
I agree. Used both extensively, Touch simply 'feels' better on your hands.
I preffer the touch too. Hopefully the Index controllers will feel a little less clunky on release.
Knuckles look like holding two mini Bows. Dont look comfortable. I'll stick with Touch.
I can imagine these actually being too big for most Japanese hands as we prefer smaller controllers. Touch Controllers are perfect for the shape of the hands.
It is a shame oculus changed an almost perfect design and made them worse for rift S and quest
I agree with ergonomics. Touch feels better. But overall the Valve Index offer more.
Not only waiting until 1st of May, will pre order Index on 1st of May! I have owned both Rift and Vive and have an Oculus Go and Vive currently.
I have the feeling it will be a great headset!
Probably Index if the price is right.
Quest seems too limiting to me. Stuck within only what Oculus will let you run on it and nothing else, like console vs PC.
i missed the first wave of pre-orders but i have a reserve for the second wave and will order it the second it opens up again. wont get it till late july which sucks.
So how do these work with normal VR games and the vive/pimax, for instance in VR-Chat or Onward, do these work fine or do they require some settings to be tweaked, and do they have any significant games where you simply have to power up your other controllers?
Hyped.
Can I buy Index controllers in the EU? I can't find a webshop that has them in stock.....
Still waiting for a solid price point of the whole headset package before jumping on anything
When you started explaining tracking types I hoped valve had a third option, was so hyped:(
*third*
There was never a doubt about the system they'd use in my mind considering Valve are the creators of the Lighthouse system.
You don't like LAZERZ???
You mentioned issues with ergonomics last time using knuckles, comparing Touch favorably. Why no mention this time?
Last time I did not really adjust the sling angle correctly. Also, the new touch controllers are a bit smaller than the original touch which is not so great for my hands.
I've owned an original HTC Vive since 2017, loved it, hate the controllers. Ever since the "knuckle" controller prototypes were around, I've been craving them, and after hearing from the leak last November about Valve developing the Index to go along with the controllers, I was sold instantly. I've been waiting months, I'm going to order my Index as soon as pre-orders open, and give my Vive to my best friend :)
I will never ever buy an Oculus brand headset, so there is no choice for me to make. The Index is the one for me!
Will get it on day one as well.
Just wondering what you tested them on. Do the work with a regular Vive?
Yes, they work with the Vive!
@@ge2719
True that
Just be aware that while the Valve Index will try new stuff and has plenty going for it, resolution isnt really one of those things. Its certainly not a bad resolution either, but its also not 'next gen vr'
I very much dislike the standard vive controllers, these are going to be a must have for a decent VR experiance.
Any idea yet what retailers will carry vive's new VR hardware?
So these controllers that you're showing is the DV version or the EV3 version?
EV3
I'm a Rift guy and will probably grab the S, but the knuckles look pretty great not gonna lie. Are the knuckles enough to get me to jump ship to the Index? No. I really don't want to either spend the extra money, and I'm looking forward to the inside-out advantages.
Advantages? How so? Seems more like disadvantages to me. Lighthouse tracking effectively makes your entire room your playspace with virtually no blind spots. It allows the most natural and varied stances with the least tracking loss by far.
@@UnknownSquid
You really need me to tell you what the advantages are with the S inside-out tracking? Lol. Ok
@@SheepAmongG.O.A.T
Yes, seriously.

Wow you're so blessed. I have a 2 sensor setup with my rift and haven't had to touch it either. Who f cares. Rift S is room scale and 360 as big as I'll want it to be out of the box
@@SheepAmongG.O.A.T
I'm not boasting, I was just wanting to hear what these advantages were that you weren't saying.

Yes indeed, I didn't like that the Touch even became smaller. I already thought the original Touch controllers were a bit small.
Can they work with windows mixed reality headsets? Thinking to get the HP reverb and this controllers if it is possible as HP controllers are the same as old model.
no
Reverb has great resolution, but Index isn't far behind at all, and has a significantly greater FoV.
The leaked minimum specs are very low for such a HMD, they're doing something to save on processing power, might just be foeveated rendering.
"12-18 hours per day"
Holy shit , and I thought I use it a lot damn lol
Grab a multiport USB fast charger. Cheap to buy and will full charge a controller within an hour. Get a pair of long USB cables to go with it, and you can even keep playing certain games without needing to stop.
UnknownSquid i had an occasion today where my oculus touch battery after a full week of usage reported low battery warning, without leaving the game i was able to swap the battery out during my recording an episode on my minecraft lets play using vr channel.
@@LightningAussie
Yeah, I mean that's obviously the ideal.
Luckily there's both on the Index controllers, just the trackpad is scaled down.
Will it work with htc vive and Pimax?
Yes.
@@mixedrealityTV does it work with the new Oculus quest
Are the Valve Index Controllers going to work with lighthouses version one base stations is my question. I have the Pimax 5k+ and bought 2 lighthouses version one with two of those lousy Vive wands. So I would like to be able to use the base stations until Pimax gives out the version two stations.
Yes all new controllers work with version 1 as well
Yes!
Will I be able to cross-use these on the Rift? I really really want them, but I have a Rift.
Only if you also add the HTC/Valve base-stations alongside your Rift setup, which would make the whole ordeal kinda expensive and silly.
I suggest awaiting reviews once the product is actually available, the specs as leaked right now arent all that amazing (they're not bad, but its not "the next generation of VR" yet either) it's going to come down to the price of the headset if its a good buy or not.
does anyone know if the index controllers will be compatible with the vive?
Yes they will.
Yeah, the Odyssey Plus is still a winner! Let's see about Index and Rift S!
@@mixedrealityTV Yes I'm interested to see more in the near future, I still play Recroom all the time LOL.
How did you mod yours? I'm waiting on my VRCovers to arrive now. But I think it could use some tweaks to be comfortable on my big ol' head!
Can i order them alone without the headset and do they track with the vive lighthouses?
They do track with the lighthouses, and from what I've seen on SteamDB it will be possible to order without the Valve Index
@@jopo6445 thanks
Index is definitely on my list of vr headsets to buy. Originally it was vive on the top of my list and I'll probably get the index if the price Is from $500-$800
You have a LIST of VR headsets to buy??!
@@78tx in my head ;)
Does anyone have a link to amazon for the controllers only?
I dont think you can get them on Amazon!
@@mixedrealityTV Alright!
Will the Knuckles be compatible with the Rifts Insight?
No.
@@mixedrealityTV Sad. I don't have the most money so I'm gonna get the Rift S since it's most likely cheaper than all the other headsets coming out but the knuckles would've been a nice bonus lol
Last I checked they only told us a out the headset and not what controllers was coming with it...
Has this changed?
I’ll be waiting until May to find out if I jump into vr with Index or Pimax with Index controllers
1st of may, is that announced? Thought it was May reveal. IE between 1st and 31st of May. Being Valve sounds more like 30th to 31st.
The Vive has already done it with two lighthouses since 2016.
I am gonna preorder the shit out of it. I trust in Valve.
Same here!
i will buy the vive cosmos, and when i move into a bigger house i will get the index controllers with the Lighthouse
It's teathered so I hope I can buy the controller separately. And use my wireless Vive.
same , not going back to wire
Wouldnt surprize me if that TPCast company would make a wireless module for the Index aswell.
@@suicidalbanananana I think they are concentrated on enterprise and VR arcades. Rather than consumer, as they are working on a sort of wireless streaming service for large arcades.
@@FlacidDonkeyGuy Ah, didnt know that. Well then maybe Intel will make a accessoire? who knows :P
@@suicidalbanananana My experience with the TP-cast was awful, 20-30 minute set up times sometimes to get it to work. It was the vive wireless adapter that really was a god send. I hope Valve does something in-house of their own as a wireless solution to be honest.
I think I'm still going with the Quest, I'll get the Index later maybe.
You should really wait for the specs of the Index or you might regret your decision afterwards
It will be hard for me to switch to the Valve Index , because i already have plenty of Games from the Oculus Store. But to be honest , i prefer stay with a company that i already know , and Oculus has already proved to me that they care about their customers .
Oculus is doing a great job. However, you will be able to play all your Oculus games on Index.
@@mixedrealityTV good to know . This year i'm going to stick with Oculus , they have done a great job and i believe in the future of the standalone vr headset. 😊👍
You can alvays use REvive for the exclusive software
First VR setup Valve Index all the way
God damnit Man, give us the baby without the labor pains!!!!
No pain, no gain! ;)
@@sinom
The touch pad seems really small on the new controllers though, which Skyrim and Fallout VR heavily rely on
Hello, would someone be so kind to help me? My English level is bad and I have a hard time understanding the videos, my question is ...
Does Oculus rift controller also have sensors to recognize the 5 fingers? If so, the only difference with valve index controllers would be that they are more comfortable and detect the pressure?
Thanks in advance: D
Oculus Rift Touch controllers also have finger tracking.
Do you think you will be able to use these controllers with the rift?
Only if you also buy Lighthouse Tracking Stations, as the Oculus Rift uses a different Tracking System.
Do you think it will ship internationally? I live in indonesia and I hope I can buy it right from steam store
Greanscreen/video cuts kinda glitching
I am waiting to see if we can use it without HTC headsets
So if I have a 1050ti, and an i5 7600 with 16G of RAM, should I just get a Rift S? I want to play stuff like Skyrim and Fallout but I have to get it by July 1st.
A 1050 ti CAN run vr. It just might not always run at the recommended 90fps.
I’m still getting used to the new name of index controllers. I think I still prefer knuckles. The headset can just be called the knucklehead.
how well do you think the valve index controllers could possibly fit a 13yo?
squeezing virtual objects ... we know what you mean :D
fresh orange juice 🍊!
Adult beverages?
Theres already a specialized controller from that that will pull your fingers back based on what your holding/squeezing. Obviously these come from Asia xD
They work for Samsung odyssey +?
Could you test these controllers with mainstream games? or hire Sweviver to do this ;)
Will do! What games you wanna see?
@@mixedrealityTV I would see rec room, beat saber, first person tenis, budget cuts, onward and pavlov.
Test climbey, since thats the only game im aware of having added support for knuckle controllers like half a year ago now.
Play PAVLOV all the time with Rift S and never had tracking problems
Will it work with WMR?
Nope, WMR uses a different tracking systemthan valves Lighthouse
Hopefully valve sell these for an affordable price so that HTC will have another Vive competitor. The Rift S isn't really a Vive competitor and neither are the WMR headsets.
Lets hope they try sell the Index at prices similar to WMR headset pricing, that should give a big boost to high quality desktop VR.
did the index controllers feel as good in your hand as the touch controllers?
I want to save up a bunch of money and buy a new VR computer, the Index headset and controllers and a wireless adapter. That is the best that VR gets so far, until haptic suits and full body tracking enter the market.
finnaly they made a controller like that
Oh yeah, it is a great one!
Hi . I am working with the Knuckles EV3 y this is the best controllers that I have tried until now... If you do any comment about Valve Index Headset , it would great !!! Thanks Best Regards
How do you think it Compares with Rift S headset. Do you think we can get this before First Half of June
All I wanna know is if I can backstab an engineer as spy and then dab with these controllers.
Yes you can with any vr controller
