This is one of the best and most fairly critical reviews of this camera! This has been very helpful in my decision making of what camera I should upgrade to, thank you.
By far the one of the best and informative reviews....thanks for sharing!! if i may make a request....i would love to see more "video" features used/explained such as autofocusing and the use/explanation of setting exposure, picture profile options and picture effects in the upcoming videos....great job and thanks!!
Great review! Were you using an external recorder at all for any of these shots? I love the camera so far but the internal codec can be frustrating at times. I'm seriously thinking of buying a Ninja Assassin but I'm wondering whether or not it'll make a big difference since it's still 8-bits.
Hey man love the video. Looks like you just jumped back into UA-cam. I hope to see more from you; love your shots, editing and creativity, it makes watching review videos really enjoyable. Keep it up! I await your follow up video.
This is actually the most all thought out review of the A7s II I've seen on UA-cam! Made me want to get one of those hahaha Btw, would you recommend actually getting the A7s II for filmmaking? I make short films and need an upgrade in gear and was wondering if the A7s II is the best fit for me?
Holy daggum we need a tutorial on your coloring techniques. What program, LUTS, etc etc etc. You took flat footage to simply amazing. Teach me your ways.
best review. thanks for being soo informative. Can you please explain how to make the SlowMotion scenes conform internally without sound? this will save me a step in post. thanks
I think the Canon lens' stabilization is better because when an IS lens is connected, the camera decides how much of it's internal IBIS to use, and most of the time uses both at the same time. This is why it's a 5-axis stabilization, because the lens has 2-axis, and the sensor has 3. It's something they don't really mention, but whether you're using all 5 axis, or just 3 axis, it's still very handy. Also, get us a video on that Jockey! Coolest thing to happen to gimbals so far!
+matrodfilm Although now that I think back to it, I think the dual-stabilization might be only available with native Sony lenses, which would make sense as well. Idek man!
+matrodfilm The IBIS is disabled when the Canon IS is active. When it's disabled the IBIS activates and can't be changed. Odd how that works, but with the option is there for NON-IS lenses. You are right about it being native on just Sony Lenses.
+motion6d Oh okay, I see. Well poo, oh well. Pretty cool tech though, I'm always comparing this to the original 7D, which was one of my best options, aside from rentals, only a few years ago.
Best review so far. congrats. I would like to see some lateral shooting of someone running... to see the jello problem in action with some stabilizers... Is it possible to try that for us!?!?!?!?!? O.O
Personally, I don't find IS in lenses to be anywhere near as effective as IBIS in reducing distraction camera shakes. In fact, I find them to produce much more a rolling or wave motion with occasional hard stops which is pretty distracting. the optimal solution is a sony lens with OSS combined with IBIS. barring that the internal IBIS. And lastly stabilization built into the lens. slog2 and slog3 are not meant to be shot in low light scenarios. They are curves designed to capture maximum exposure data in wide latitude particularly contrasty scenes. This is not what you have at night typically. There is usually considerably more information in the shadow detail which will be better captured using on the cine profiles. And if you use a cine profile I wouldn't use an slog gamma as they are not designed to go together. Sony pretty much advises against this. This was a nice review with a some really good production value. I disagree on some finer points but overall i liked it. cheers.
Love the video. What battery did you use to extend your camera's battery life? Secondly, what editing software do you use? Finally, your audio voiceover was awesome. What microphone and setup did you use?
awsome review. One question, I saw a video test S-log3 colour grading on A7s2 at Vimeo. I glad at original 4k 100 MBits is MTS instead of MP4 format. What was your format file in 4K ? Thanks Guys.
Very great video! I would like to buy one. which adaptator lenses do you use? and it is good? (i make essentially video and sometimes photo). thanks you for your answer. sorry 4 my english, im french ^^
Hey man, wonderful review! I'm wondering, have you run into the issue of banding in the highlights while in S-Log 3? If so, have you managed to find any workarounds for it? Perhaps S-Log 2 and/or a customized Cine 4 pic prof?
Hi, could you suggest the best manual settings for shooting in daylight using S-Log 3 (like you did for the night). Also when you say "In the night you should expose two stops above normal" - what exactly does that mean in terms of technical settings on the camera? Thanks in advance!
I don't know what's about small channels having the most detailed videos about this camera, but it makes no sense. The fact that bigger channels can't do better and the fact that a channel with this quality didn't grow much in 7 years...
hi motion6d ....can i ask you if you had noise problem with iso 1600 in dark places and in slog 3 profile ...they say you might need to adjust stops to avoid the noise ..what do you think ?
+URUK MEDIA Slog 3 is only dependent on exposure, exposing for 1600 doesn't decrease noise or at least to me. But I have noticed some shots are cleaner at 12,800 than at 3200 in certain scenes.
Amazing review!! what speed booster did you use to enable you to use cannon lenses? Also im looking for a good slow motion camera would you still recommend this? i have a Black magic 4k and a cannon 5d mii already.
+patrick bitumen I also had a BM4K a while back, love the global shutter, but the lack of frame rates really got to me. Honestly this camera can replace both the MkII and the BM4k if you choose to go that route. Unless you need multiple cameras.
+ACB Productions It works just like being tethered to AC. Just make sure you mount it on your rig or hot shoe to be less intrusive. It provides about 4 battery charges at least.
Every time I try to record in 4k with my Sony A7s 2 . It always has this circle around the video. Does anyone know how to make the video full frame instead of having the black circle on the edge of the videos ? .
After further investigation, I'm really starting to dislike skin tones in both the a7sii and the a7rii. However, the Sony pxw fs5 kicks the A series butt especially in image quality. Despite all the hype, real pros don't like the the a7sii or the a7rii because of skin tone quality and overheating. The color space just isn't good on these cameras. If you need a good camera get ready to shell out the cash for the Sony fs5.
i was ignoring this video review when turns out this was actually the best review so far ive ever watched. good job man!
I love how he's actually bringing out what's wrong with the camera, unlike everyone else.
This is one of the best and most fairly critical reviews of this camera! This has been very helpful in my decision making of what camera I should upgrade to, thank you.
this is the best review I have seen yet , very nice explanation (y)
Best review so far ! Gorgeous images ! What lenses did you use ?
+Bruno Slam Zeiss 55mm, Canon 24-105, Sigma 18-35, 35mm. Canon 50mm. Canon 17-40L.
Great review! Thanks
I bought this camera in 2022)
Thank you so much for this review, I just got this camera and I am still learning so many things about it.
By far the one of the best and informative reviews....thanks for sharing!!

+A Chon Thanks for the feedback. I'll try it.
Nice presentation... nice music.... nice videos !!!
+Nimal Taz Thanks
amazing grading, one of the best which I saw so far

Wow this was quite thorough yet to the point. Thanks so much for sharing
What a great review! Well done!

+Gnomecity Gnomecity thnx, just waiting to get it back from BH for an exchange.
+motion6d What happened with it what / why the exchange?

Thanks for video!
absolutely fantastic review. how come this guy has only 1k subs.
+Evan Peng not enough videos.
Yes it is useful to me...thanks a lot for clearly explained
great quality vid man. some gorgeous shots
Great review! Well done and thanks
really great review. thank you!
just a side note in order to get rid of noise get f2 fast lens i know it's expensive option but worth it my night shots r noise free
I like your grading. Very nice.
+Will Moseley thanks
Terrific review!
+missingtear Thanks!
Great review!
+Jørgen Hansen Thanks!
I thought they changed the native iso of the a7s II to 1600?
solid review! good job!
Beautiful review! Subscribed!
+TheTechnoPilot Thanks!

best review. thanks for being soo informative. Can you please explain how to make the SlowMotion scenes conform internally without sound? this will save me a step in post. thanks
+slitx77 It's in the menu with the GEAR, where it shows HFR, make sure you have HFR "M" selected.
nice stuff! We shot our last movie "my days as a woflman" on the sony A7s with shogun. pretty nice picture quality :)

Excellent review, waiting for your Part 2 review with anticipation, any timescale?
+Rashid Babiker As soon as BH process my exchange. Had a grey band when i punch in on my viewfinder.
No way haha I went to that Palm Springs tramway too and just posted a vlog about it or at least I think that's what it is haha nice video!
Great video, my friend.
+Ashfab Nutrition Thanks!
Im pretty sure, almost positive, that if you have a assassin the 30 min recording timer is no longer an issue.
nice review
Best review so far. congrats. I would like to see some lateral shooting of someone running... to see the jello problem in action with some stabilizers... Is it possible to try that for us!?!?!?!?!? O.O
Amazing review !!
dope review 👌
really great video!!! thanks a lot!!!!!
Pretty cool colour grading! Can you do a video about how you do?
Does the IBIS and optical IS work together, or does one cancel out the other?
Great channel, are you still active?
Wow nice Video man!!
can we get a downloadable slog3?
+Jsfilmz Not at the moment, sorry. But there are PLENTY of amazing downloadable S-Log 3 footages available on Vimeo, etc.
Nice video.

wow this review was great. keep it up!
i love the anchored 3d text. any tutorials on them?
nice review! really made things clear for me!
a question: how did you get so many selectable recording modes in the gh4 menu?
+acid Change the system frequency from 24 to 59.97.
Love the video. What battery did you use to extend your camera's battery life? Secondly, what editing software do you use? Finally, your audio voiceover was awesome. What microphone and setup did you use?
+james cook Thanks, Anker 10,000 battery, Premiere Pro, Zoom H4n.
Hi ! great review. What Portable battery solution are you using. Can it really power the camera for the day ? Cheers.
Great Review! thanks for sharing! How did you color grade those footage? any LUTs applied? thanks
awsome review. One question, I saw a video test S-log3 colour grading on A7s2 at Vimeo. I glad at original 4k 100 MBits is MTS instead of MP4 format. What was your format file in 4K ? Thanks Guys.
Very Helpful! Keep it up.
+Joshmchin Thanks!
Thanks!!!
Curious what your color workflow is for slog3, i'm finding it very difficult to get good results.
+Christian Kirk You can use a standard Alexa LUT from Premiere and tweak it from there.
By exposing two stops over does he mean widening the aperture open a bit more of increasing the ISO?
Very great video! I would like to buy one. which adaptator lenses do you use? and it is good? (i make essentially video and sometimes photo). thanks you for your answer. sorry 4 my english, im french ^^
Hi - Anybody knows that the MF assist when is turn on works also during recording video?
I saw you used an ef lens with this camera.... Did you shoot video? If so, will the a7s ii autofocus video when using an ef lens?
Hey man, wonderful review! I'm wondering, have you run into the issue of banding in the highlights while in S-Log 3? If so, have you managed to find any workarounds for it? Perhaps S-Log 2 and/or a customized Cine 4 pic prof?
+Mark Daniel Quintos Avoid LOG if you are having issues with banding, it doesn't carry enough color info in that tiny 8bit codec.
Hi, could you suggest the best manual settings for shooting in daylight using S-Log 3 (like you did for the night). Also when you say "In the night you should expose two stops above normal" - what exactly does that mean in terms of technical settings on the camera?

Nice review. Is aps-c function available in the a7sii? Does it work in all modes?
+MAC Motions Yes.
+MAC Motions It's available, but not when you shoot 4k
Great review! Im thinking of getting one. Where'd you source the music?
audiojungle
So the Metabones Smart adapter IV works fine with this body?
I don't know what's about small channels having the most detailed videos about this camera, but it makes no sense. The fact that bigger channels can't do better and the fact that a channel with this quality didn't grow much in 7 years...
Great Review! Thanks! Do you know if the XAVCS HD is also 8bit 4:2:0 ?
+TheArtOfColor Sure is. I read somewhere where a sony rep claimed it was a hardware limitation that prevents it from going over 8bit color.
Can't you get around the thirty minute record time by using an atomos shogun?
I find the gamma assist for slog3 useless as you have to overexpose by 2 stops
hi motion6d ....can i ask you if you had noise problem with iso 1600 in dark places and in slog 3 profile ...they say you might need to adjust stops to avoid the noise ..what do you think ?

+motion6d great. what adaptor do you use on the Sony as7ii for cannon lenses?
+patrick bitumen A metabones EF to E Smart Adapter T
+motion6d thanks for the help I just ordered mine :)
What was everything shot at 3200? Proper lighting wasn't a consideration in this test?
+Jay Young The native ISO was 3200 for the sensor in video mode. I'll do another video testing various exposure settings.
You color grade in premiere?
Hi there. Could you please tell us what's the baseplate you're attaching to the A7s II? Thanks!
+Bernzini It's from a DJI Ronin M
+Jett He Thank you!
Can you please provide a link to the portable battery pack you are using to keep the camera charged all day? Does it work well?
Thanks
+ACB Productions it's an Anker one I found on amazon.
+ACB Productions It works just like being tethered to AC. Just make sure you mount it on your rig or hot shoe to be less intrusive. It provides about 4 battery charges at least.
+motion6d can you actually use the portable charger to charge the cameras battery while you're shooting?
How was shooting at the Arboretum? Were they strict?
+Michael Marchesan They didn't really bother me, but there is a photographer's fee if you are "shooting a subject", a model.
Every time I try to record in 4k with my Sony A7s 2 . It always has this circle around the video. Does anyone know how to make the video full frame instead of having the black circle on the edge of the videos ? .
you're using a aps-c crop lens
@@Moesuito Thank you.

+james cook 8 bit, 4:2:0 lacks too much info to fully grade, but at $3k, I didn't expect too much.
how long does a regular battery life last?
1080 60p around 90mins. UHD 30p around 50 mins.
i saw STARCRAFT 2 !!
S7sii is best camera but focus is not better than। Sony a6300 why any replying।।।
why did you wreck your drone into a tree!?
