Mgła's drums are melodic drums 😀 lots of cymbals in between the beats. Darkside makes mgła's songs even more melodic with his drumming. Check them out 🤘
I have a different definition. Regular black metal tends to be almost atonal, using a lot of chromatic intervals etc, or subvert classic harmony (by using only minor chords è.g.), and there are a lot of single notes but usually playing some “nihilistic” sounding scale. while in melodic BM you’d find more traditional chord progressions. As for the single note stuff, you’d usually play a traditional minor scale. Just my 2 cents. Stay funky bro ;)

@@damnedbelowjudas_ Great. :) I actually don't have the nr 1 guitarist who made me wanna start. It's more like the music itself is the biggest motivator. I have favourite music and favourite bands but no favourite guitarists yet unless you count the guitarists in the bands I like. If I had to choose one band with the biggest influence on me regarding this, it'd be Insomnium.
And remember to be persistent! The first months SUCK. I would say now (a bit over 2m) I'm starting to see some results, f.e. finally reading tabs isn't so overwhelming (not that I can play well what it says but can read it better), fingers don't hurt anymore (though other parts hurt somewhat still). For me works better to choose a slightly challenging things over difficult ones but you have to ponder what's better for you - some people are more motivated if they choose something really above their current skill level. For me even in the fairly easy things is enough challenge to play it well and there's still a lot of space for improvement (not just sloppily play it and be happy with it) - a lot little things that should be done better, with more precision and attention to detail. I did choose to include a one-to-one guitar lessons but I still watch YT guitar channels to pick up new things on my own, not just depending on my teacher for everything as the lessons are short and just once a week. But many learn on their own completely and from what I've gathered, it's like 1000 % easier than prior internet times. Now you can watch so many different videos on the topic and it's an endless well of info. The people before us didn't have so easy access to so many things so easily. So, don't wait and start! :) I would say that now it's beginning to be also fun for me and not just fighting with it. :) I also recommend to search for hand/finger stretching exercises. :)
The last example of blast beats you used for atmospheric is completely different than the other 2, and tbh I feel like it reminds me of 90s retro but I see it a lot in melodic black and death metal
I'll give this a check. I only have heard like 8 bands out of there. Have you heard Dark fortress and Lord almighty? I recommend Grand Belial's Key, Varathron, Samael, Pest too, but I'm not sure if this really qualifies as melodic black metal per the examples he's giving.

If Sweden has the best melodic Black metal bands it is mainly because they listened/listen to a looot of the mighty British Heavy Metal bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy etc... The guys that invented the twin leads guitar playing in other words. I lived there for a long time and played with Dissection so yeah that is the main factor for me. Isn't it funny though that Farvann mentionned that bass is "not important" and that one of the major influence up there in BM is Maiden, created by... Steve Harris ;)
Melodic Black Metal: Take your Black Metal and add good keyboards, some clean vocals every once in a while (can be boy or girl) and higher production quality and LESS MAKEUP (or better make up). That's it.
When he said "ask one of your friends maybe" i felt that
Exactly.
...you'd never be able to explain that part to a friend anyway...
The other option is that you don't have any friends
I'll take the "record yourself twice"
@@REVAUDAX I was about to say that 😂
My friends don't even dare to talk about music because of my stuff
"You can't drink 10 beers a day anymore"
**sad Farvann noises**
When you drink beer and watch this video...
So sad...
“Farvann can’t drink more than 10 beers”
Dark times are upon us
Think you should make an album of all the song u made and Call it how to Black metal

son: Mom can I have freezing moon
Mom: we have freezing moon at home
Freezing moon at home: 7:00
Thats exactly what i thought XD
That's not even melodic black metal
This song is actually amazing.
yes

Melodic Black Metal tutorial instructions:
1.Just do pretty much everything Dissection does
2. Call it a day
Came here to say this.
Exactly
100%
Yeah that's what I did
how would you define varathron and those greek bands? some sound pretty melodic too.
I just love how Farvann comes up with a riff off the top of his head and it is better than anything I ever created xD
How can you call yourself a blackmetal head if your background lighting is not even black?
ouch

Farvann: "Guess i'll die"
😂
holy shit that was a really good song
It really was. I'm consistently surprised and pleased by the songs he puts out in a jokey way while also making them look effortless.
The actual song feels like if freezing moon and the somberlain had a baby, but with gollum on vocals(wich means it's fuckin great)
I thought it was Seth Putnam
Don't you mean Frozen Moon?

For me Dissection is the best definition of a Melodic Black Metal band. Maybe Naglfar too. Catamenia, etc.
I accidentally summoned the alter ego of Farvann, he's looks amazing. . . I can't believe my eyes. . .
"you can't drink 10 beer/ day anymore"
Oh satan, that's nice, that i can count only to 9

I guess we haven’t reached that level of epicness yet
im here for listen music,
aren't we all
Same
Farvan casually shows his axe's tuning, stumbles on the blackest melodic black metal intro to ever escape the deepest, darkest, icy bowels of Hell! 😈
I love when Black Metal mixed with the Atmospheric/gaze kinda stuff.. its like darkness fusion into the sorrowness
I like the lights behind you !
Goddamn, Farvann back at it again with another kickass song, fucking love it
the song seems a great masterpiece
Hab’s noch nicht gesehen, aber find jetzt schon geil, dass du es gemacht hast!
You're a lot more natural at this than you give yourself credit for. Badass jam!
Farvann's liver during beer era: "Why me?"
Doctor: "You can't drink ten beers a day... Find yourself another drink, but not beer!"
Farvann's heart: "Oh fuck..."
Maaan lead melody is actually really good, is epic, glacial and has something Vampiric like "coming from the mountain of transylvania"
The song you made is a MASTERPIECE! Keep going on this direction would be an 10/10 album !
Farvann's videos and songs just keep getting better; he must have found some source of inspiration recently😜🤘🏻
This is coincidentally just what I needed rn
Damn, this song is tasty!
really liking the vocals on the song, wasn't expecting to like melodic black metal as much as i do
Woooooww.... I’m fcking speechless after that songs, favorite one so far, hands down 🤘🏽

Thanks Farvann. That song was pretty sweet.
Was just thinking, wouldn’t it be cool if Farvann did another video!
Power metal + Black metal = OH HELL YES
when you think about it, classic plain black metal is more of a subgenre in its own genre than something like melodic or atmospheric black metal
nice video, again
Seriously badass tune. Lots of atmosphere in this one. Reminded me of old Satyricon.
These videos finally pushed me to start learning guitar. So thanks farvaan
