Boss SD-1 is a sleeper pedal, so cheap everyone over looks it. But, it really competes with high dollar overdrives. And the best part, is that it is still on your pedal board when you take a break at the gig and come back to the stage, it doesn't walk off.
Hi Paul, great video. Building on it... can you please do a video showing how to dial-in AMP/IR pedals, such as the Boss IR-2, and overdrive pedals so that they work well together?
@@DogSlobberGardens-i7f I have heard the katana without post effects and there is a reason its under 500 bucks. A katana can never compete with a tube amp. DEFINITELY like this sort of video. Thanks for posting, it was timely instruction for me. I recently started applying what you were doing with the amp - which is finding the inflection point on the slope of the gain-stage curve. Once I find the amp's curve, I will apply the technique to my gain pedals, which often have an S-curve in the sweep as well, which accentuates the effect. Please keep it coming!
My brother tried to buy a Valiant guitar directly from their website. He paid the list price online. Then they left him waiting for months. Finally they contacted him and told him his guitar was almost finished - they were just waiting for some hardware to arrive from China, and it would soon be ready to ship. Then they told him there had been a small misunderstanding, and that the money he'd already sent them months before was not the full purchase price, but just a deposit, and he would need to send them an additional $2000. Needless to say, he cancelled the order and filed a claim for fraud and got his money back. Eff Valiant Guitars.
Usefull video. I have a revv a d25 and a telecaster and use a qc for the effects. I dont know how to set the knobs. I always fiddle around and learn from it.
Nice demo! Would like to hear anything as your recommendations for a Clean , crunch and lead amp channels. Including Amps that can be direct without anything and then reproduce it with pedals
Another fantastic video Paul! I play through a solid state amp; orange super crush 100. Would the strategy to dial in an overdrive pedal vary? I struggle a bit with using overdrives with a SS amp.
Nice video, always liked the sd1 . Never liked the sd1 with my fender amps though. Always worked better with marshall style amps. How about doing the same with a clean amp instead of breakup.

This guy can make a $20 distortion pedal sound great. That is great recordings. Then when u get it home and put it in a amplifier. U will be greatly disappointed. They all do it. Just as a thumbs up
The SD-1 is also pretty fantastic in front of a high gain amp. It'll slam the front end and give more top end presence to the tone than a TS does, and give you that flub saving bass roll off. I have both the SD1 and Keeley Red Dirt Mini and like them for different amps/guitars. I don't think I've ever tried it with the gain above 0 or 1 😂 ...it sounded really good!
I would love to see if you do this with the GT1000. The whole pre amp distortion as well as the opening up with the power amp. Is that something that is even possible?

Paul, when I do that exactly how you have just 2 pedals, the gain becomes too noisy from the compressor. Yet if I use it in the quad it’s quiet. Plus, there’s a noise suppressor. Even without the noise suppressor. But I want to use it with my amp. So I end up just playing clean with the compressor. So idk what to do. I can live with it. I’m just wondering if you have a suppressor in there? Anyway, you’ve always been a great teache as well as a great guitarist. I was rewatching your GuitarGuitar visit and now I think that first PRS was the one you should have gotten. And that goldfinger. Can you go back and get them? It’s only been a few yrs do you think they’re still there? 😮😉 oh maybe I’m using too much of everything with the real pedals and maybe they can’t take it.

Hi Paul, great video. Building on it... can you please do a video showing how to dial-in AMP/IR pedals, such as the Boss IR-2, and overdrive pedals so that they work well together?
Noted!
Paul proves my point, All a great guitarist needs is a nice tube amp, nice guitar, and 1 to 4 basic pedals to get "the sound".
To be fair, I think he could get decent guitar tone out of a kazoo.
He also has a whole long playlist of videos proving you don't need a tube amp or any pedals at all to get "the sound." Just a Katana.
So there's that.
