@zhepkin i would say from 1992 until "The cult is alive". Ain't saying they're the only influences we could hear from the them. But the primitiveness and "black n roll" stuff had the basis from Celtic Frost/Hellhammer. The repetitiveness, atmosphere and sinister sound from Bathory is totally translated to their shit as well as Mayhems aesthetic. To call this "extremely inaccurate" is extremely exaggerated.
@zhepkin the description of 1991 era though would be Death, Autopsy and Carcass "symphonies of sickness" to the describe Soulside Journey. The production is "swedish" but not the sound, as some may claim..
I don't know if Farvann realizes it, but he's a master of seamlessly transitioning from cold, melancholy black metal riffs to almost rock&roll head-banging riffs. It's as evident on Durbatuluk albums just as much as it is here.
Probably Transylvanian Hunger was what got me back into metal and specifically into black metal which was a total fascination and atmospheric plunge that I never got out of since 1995. I always return to Darkthrone as a reliable minimalistic riff riff riffing sound. Panzerfaust is my favorite album because of it's groovy variety and Ravishing Grimness is also because I heard it as something refreshing after some years of hiatus, anyway that's how I remember - maybe it was on CD instead of tape, like the older albums? And recently I discovered Soulside Journey which blew my mind, endless riffing orgasms like Thulcandra, Eon or Archipelago - ahhhh the best!
I found them through the old magazines that had an interview with Fenris. After soulsside journey they were a trio who only came together to record and then split because they hated each other (supposedly). Dismissing LaVey Satanism because they were like the most hardcore slaves of Satan. It instantly grabbed my puber brains attention and I was curious what kind of crazy metal these guys made. I ordered a copy of 'Under a Funeral Moon', a note with cash in an envelope to some P.O. box and got a week or so later. I was expecting something crazy but instead of blast beats and diarrhea guitars and burp vocals Darkthrone has this atmosphere to it, big wall of guitars and vocals and it's still one of my favourite BM bands. Total Death I play very often and Ravishing Grimness was a great comeback album, the Song Ravishing Grimness has great riffs. I'd like it played on my Funeral. The new albums are pretty cool, they mix all their inspirations with their own sound and a lot of fans didn't like it so they doubled down instead of changing. They still have the edgey fuck all energy as way back. DARKTHRONE HOLY DARKTHRONE

I've watched this while doing make up. I'm surprised it didn't turn into a corpse paint 😄 And I'm glad to see Škoda aka recording studio working again.
Darkthrone is a great band, I love their riffing and tone. Necrosound, guitars like chainsaw and vocals where the pieces of Nocturno Culto his lungs come out of the speakers. And Fenris on drums laying down the drums, sparing the blast beats and drumming upbeat grooves that sound like they're recorded in a cave. Still doing their own thing and coming up with kick ass music. Great songs to play on the guitar. They are not hard to figure out without tabs either. Enjoyed this video, cool song too!!
That was pretty awesome. Strong Panzerfaust vibes sir truly…In The Shadow Of The Horns. one might even say reaching…Quintessence it’s almost as if you heard His Master’s Voice & thought “know what I need? I need a Hate Cloak”
What I really like about these videos is that you actually have a good Black Metal guitar tone going. Nothing makes me more annoyed than hearing that "I just turned off my cab sim" tone. Good video, love the riffs!
lmao I'm pretty sure they would approve They mentioned somewhere that they basically make a bunch of songs each and then gets together to record it. So whatever it turns out to be is the final product and If people like it they will buy it lol
That new Darkththrone record tho blew it out of the park this year, the production and the instruments are just... dusty and 70s and it just hits right.
Before Darkthrone was called Darkthrone, the band was called Black Death. The band Black Death or pre-Darkthrone or whatever we want to call them, released two demo albums which, in my opinion, are decent for some teenagers who put their creativity in development. I was shocked to hear how well Fenriz was doing on the drums, after all, he was around 16 years old if I remember correctly. Anyway, no one thought at that time that some simple teenagers would end up leading the real Norwegian black metal .In my opinion, Fenriz and the rest of the band established their sound with the release of the album A Blaze In The Northern Sky, then was the crucial moment of the band.
Oh hell yeah! It was great! And yes Darkthrone is very influential indeed. I especially picked up a lot from their more melodic and atmospheric riffs (like Hans Siste Vinter, Transilvanian Hunger and all that).
Great video! Love the lyrics of the song and the cuts to you performing them in the car was hilarious lol! The music itself was awesome, riffs riffs riffs baby....

The most essential aspect of Darkthrone is being able to play the Celtic Frost worship drinking game. Take a drink every time you think you hear a CF riff.
Überraschend gut. Man merkt, die Hingabe zum BM. Bin selbst seit 1994 dabei und eigentlich an "neuen" Sachen schon lange nicht mehr interessiert. Du bist eine wohltuende Ausnahme.
Sounds like something off of Arctic Thunder mixed with Panzerfaust and with Nocturno's drunk vocals from The Underground Resistance. Awesome and hilarious!

To me, Darkthrone is really a mixed bag... there are the kvlt klassiks, there are the pretty cool stuff, there are the 'okay with a lot of beer' albums, and there are the absolute unlistenable garbage ones... so it does matter which one you start with. Panzerfaust will always be my favourite though. Anyway, cool song as always! \m/
