The mythical layers... every stylist I've been to seems to struggle to understand this simple concept. That's why I've been secretly cutting my own hair for over a year already, using these videos as my guide. So far no-one has suspected that I don't actually go to hair salons 🤫and I'm a lot happier too with the results. It takes time and patience (and a lot of muscle work 😅) to do it alone but I feel like I'm close to perfecting my technique that I can soon teach my sister or someone to cut my hair.

I am a ( 30 year retired) and I have never found anyone that can cut my hair like you do,& like I was taught. I cut my own hair until my shoulders are so arthritic, I can no longer do it. I don’t understand why SO MANY hair stylists “ JUST DON’T GET IT “” in cutting hair 😥. I appreciated your video.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Love this thanks Steve. I wish you had done the other side - not boring at all! You are my Jedi Master when it comes to learning how to style my wife's hair!! As you pointed out she hasn't been able to find any stylist she likes so I'm learning on the job.

This issue of layering and how to execute it is my biggest source of anxiety connected with cutting my wife’s hair. This video has boosted my confidence and I appreciate break-downs and basics a lot. Thank you Stephen.

I am a hairdresser and have been watching your videos for a long time. I have struggled with cutting my hair myself because no one wants to cut layers anymore!! I had a hard time getting my hair even, but now I use a ruler and measure my hair on both sides so I know it is even.

    • @pernilladomander7648

Ruler? Nobody is totally symmetrical and most ppl also have some kind of wavepattern so how does that work out?

My hair is naturally curly only one guy was able to do this style then he retired. I watched your videos last night again, tonight I found this. Got my haircut by someone I have used over a year... Anyway this past August 2 2023 I showed her again the photo of my hair that the other guy did consistently. She left me with sides that stick out like Bozo. My curls are really pretty, i get many compliments on my hair when I go out in public. Anyway, i decided to cut my hair like you showed in about 4 of your layering short videos. It turned out fine, gonna grow it out and find another hairdresser or keep doing out myself. I contacted you 4 years ago, never heard from you. Thankyou for helping me via your tutorials. Shalom SHALOM

I am Going to try to cut my own hair using your videos. I have been trying for over 15 YEARS to get my hair layered like this video. I don’t understand why no one can get it right but I invariably end up with 3 chunks of layers that look like someone but 3 different bowls on my head and cut the lengths to the bowls. Ugh!!!! I had one guy literally cut chunks out from my under layers and cover them up with longer top layers. And I mean chunks. Uneven random chunks! I was in tears.
Thank You for your videos. I wear my hair back from my face with a headband all the time and it’s just at the top of my shoulders. I want it layered all behind the headband but left long enough to stay under the headband. My hair is straight on top but the ends curl when layered. Hopefully I can manage this myself for your instructions!!! ❤❤❤

I have been watching your videos for over 5 years now and you are amazing! I have been unable to find a decent hairdresser (no matter how much I pay) and I always come back to your videos to show me how to fix it myself. I have also tried numerous other hair cutting videos but always cone back to yours as they are simple and work. I don’t usually subscribe or comment on these pages but I make an exception here as you are truly amazing! Keep it up Steven (and I would happily pay$250 for you to cut my hair). 😊

I lost my hairdresser because I did the very thing you are describing. During the Pandemic, I watched your videos on UA-cam, and cut my own hair in layers. As primitive as my attempt was, I loved my hair! When I went back to her, I told her about you, hoping that she would watch the videos. Wrong! She whipped out a razor (or clipper) and lifted the back of my hair and swiped across the neckline, cutting up into my hairline, and lettiing the top hair fall over it. When I woke up the next morning, my hair was flipping out everywhere. So, I cut on it, trying to even it. She was so frustrated that I was finding fault with the way she did my hair, that she told me she couldn't help me any more, and to find another hairdresser. I'm not willing to go through that again, so I'm going to layer my own hair from now on. I loved the way she highlighted my hair, and I'm really going to miss that. The trouble is that I'm getting older, and it is difficult for me to reach the back of my head. What a pickle I put myself in!

Hello, I believe that this stratification is really a great thing for the various haircuts that you can choose. This is exactly what I look for when I go to cut them by a professional, but unfortunately it does not always happen: it happened to me, sometimes, to find parts of different lengths on one side or the other of the head, or parts remained too thick that over time create problems as the hair is not perfectly balanced. The best cutter in Pittsburgh is Jeff Palmieri at Nadia Salon. Man I miss him. I moved to DC 17 years ago and I have been from the cheapest salons to the most expensive and I am YET to find a cutter that knows how to layer my hair. As a matter of fact, after 4 years of being with a cutter that can (sort of) layers the back and front of my hair, she cannot cut the sides whatsoever and always leaves me with the holes that you speak of. Absolutely frustrating as hell and true story, she and I mutually fired each other two weeks ago. Off to do my next stylist search yet again...
