NO REMORSE NO REGRETS WE DONT CARE WHAT IT MEANT ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER DEATH ANOTHER SORROW ANOTHER BREEEEEATH I fucking love this song too, it's probably just my favorite song
The house that jack built, thorn within, carpe diem baby, low mans lyric, the unnamed feeling, my apocalypse, Rebel of Babylon,Hell and back. All these songs are considered for me the most underrated songs, but I think Suicide and Redemption is the chosen one.
Lots of good suggestions. Of those, Carpe Diem Baby was the closest to making my list. I love that song, but couldn’t see putting both it and Slither on the same list.
The Judas Kiss is definitely overlooked. The chorus of that song might be the most musically “exiting” part of Death Magnetic. And, I came real close to including Carpe Diem Baby on my list, but ultimately chose Slither instead.
I actually prefer - Human over No Leaf Clover. Also think Beyond Magnetic is an underrated album. Hell and Back and Just a Bullet Away and great songs IMO
I’m also a big fan of Rebel of Babylon. I was lucky enough to see them play it live the one and only time they have. As you probably guessed, it was killer.
A lot of death magnetic is severely underrated, recently the only songs they play off it are The Day That Never Comes and, hardly, All Nightmare Long. The rest of the album is filled with bangers and they don't get the recognition they deserve
Agreed. And, actually, The Day That Never Comes might be my least favorite song from that album. Any time they play it live I find myself thinking I'd rather hear something else from DM. Thanks for the comment!
I just revisited DM today and totally agree. That was just our life, all nightmare long and the judas kiss are awesome. I was even enjoying the end of the line which I didn't use to like
The Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Where the Wild Things Are, Fixxxer, My Friend of Misery, Unforgiven 3. I think all of those songs are great but they are a bit more reflective and low key than their other songs, which turns off many metallica fans
Thanks for the comment! Yes, you've listed some absolute gems. Almost every single one is a song I really love. Also... keep an eye out for a video on the channel next week which specifically talks about two of the songs in your list.
This is a good, balanced list! My 6 underrated Metallica songs off the top of my head are: Trapped Under Ice Disposable Hero Of Wolf and Man The House That Jack Built Where The Wild Things Are Devil's Dance
So... I like the content. I like the way in which it is done here. This is a really tough one to tackle. With somewhere near 150 songs released by Metallica it is going to be hard to pick just six that are underrated. -Human makes a lot of sense. That definitely takes a backseat to No Leaf Clover ALWAYS; but it is a really good song. I am not sure how I feel about including The Prince. A cover song. Metallica generally does a real kick ass job on covers so this one is no surprise. This is where I think it starts to show, and you do mention it multiple times, that the amount of times a song was played live has a big effect on its status as underrated. For me, at least, I feel there are so many great Metallica songs that never get played or even mentioned I would have a hard time including a cover song. Slither is a good choice. I am one of the bigger fans of the Load and Reload albums so to me there are a LOT of songs on those that I think don't get enough respect and would classify as underrated but I can not argue with this one. No Remorse... I just don't see that one. Meaning, I think it is rated right. Maybe its just me but I think it gets the respect it is due as a classic/legendary Metallica song. As shown with your choices though it can be real difficult to call anything 'underrated' on those first 5 albums. Millions loved them all for so long. Atlas Rise was unexpected. Not because it isn't a great song but Hardwired doesn't get enough recognition in general and so picking one song off that is hard, as many of them qualify as underrated. I guess it just may be that I prefer Now That We're Dead (granted, played live during that entire tour) and Halo on Fire. This is a good video and gives me a lot to think about. I may come back and alter my comments at some point.
Lots of good points. I’ll pick one to address now and hopefully hit the others later on. One aspect of being underrated is the ratio of quality to recognition. With respect to The Prince, it’s very high quality with not much recognition. To give specific examples: I think it’s superior in every way to Whiskey in the Jar, Turn the Page, Am I Evil, etc… but gets far less recognition. Even just within the subset of Diamond Head covers, it gets overlooked.
For Reload I’d also say Unforgiven II. The songs is my fav of the trilogy and has some really great writing and and some great riffs, a catchy and meaningful chorus and a killer solo from Kirk
The San Diego radio station I used to listen to on iHeart Radio played it pretty regularly, and hearing that intro, it was about 50/50 whether it was 1 or 2.
I love at least half of the tracks from Load/Reload but I've always hated that song. The concept alone of the "sequels" to "The Unforgiven" is just dumb and I never understand the hype about it. When it came out it was clear that "The Unforgiven II" was pure "fanservice", a song to reconnect the fans who despised "Load" to a previous album while still releasing a very commercial radio-fendly single (when it came out "Reload" was sold as a return to "heavy" Metallica when in fact was "Load Part II" and was just fine for me). The song is a complete ripoff of both "Fade To Black" and Maiden's "Children of the Damned" and it's not even remotely comparable with the "Morricone-styled" masterpiece which is "The Unforgiven", the classic N.4 spot power-ballad that brillianty switch the classic soft verse/heavy chorus structure of the previous classic ones.
To the general public, Bleeding Me might be a lesser known song. But it seems like within the Metallica community it gets the respect it deserves. Without a doubt it’s a great song.
I think my friend of misery and halo on fire are pretty underrated too. Nice list tho,!I actually did not know most of them, so i'm looking forward to listening to them \m/
The two songs you mentioned are two I actually considered including on they list. I absolutely love My Friend of Misery, but have a difficult time putting any song from The Black Album on an underrated list.
From their classic era: Metal Militia Escape The Thing That Should Not Be Eye of the Beholder The Frayed Ends of Sanity Don’t Tread on Me My Friend of Misery The Struggle Within From Load and after: 2x4 Cure (The Outlaw Torn is also one of my favs but I can’t call it underrated) Bad Seed (Where The Wild Thing Are, again I love it but too appreciated by fans to be called underrated) Attitude Shoot Me Again Purify (I’m sick of people calling this the worst Metallica song.) The End of the Line Broken Beat And Scarred ManUNkind Am I Savage (I understand why people call it bad, but I don’t get why they call it forgettable or filler as well. Second half says it all.) Murder One (People think this Lemmy tribute should sound like Motörhead. Motörhead songs sound upbeat and happy. A tribute to a famous musician who died should NEVER sound happy. It should sound dark.) And now the most overrated of what many fans consider underrated: Of Wolf And Man (Can’t stand this song, second half is horrible.) The God That Failed (Not really for my taste.) The House Jack Built (Worst ever Metallica song. Try change me.) Ronnie (Not much better than THJB) Sweet Amber (There’s more to it than the bridge. Annoying vocals on this one.) The Judas Kiss Dream No More (There’s more to it than the chorus. Pretty likeable, but boring verses and outro.)
Songs that IMO are underrated. Escape, metal militia, no remorse, trapped under ice, Eye of the beholder, my friend of misery, holier then thou, through the never, Until it sleeps, bleeding me, thorn within, the house Jack built, the outlaw torn, fixxxer, St. Anger, my world. My apocalypse, that eas just your life, agree with You about atlas rise, it should be on the set.
Escape is at my top 3 Ride The Lightning songs along with the title track and Creeping Death or Fight Fire With Fire. The worst of this album is without a doubt The Call Of Ktulu, then Trapped Under Ice.
The official Metallica website has a section with all kinds of info about every song they’ve ever recorded, including when and where they’ve played it live.
I don't find "Slither" a very interesting song. The main riff is also an Enter Sandman ripoff and just for that reason alone it's easily a track that I would've cut out in making a Load/Reload single album masterpiece with the absolute best of the two. To me from those two records (if we don't consider some of the well-known singles plus the rightly appreciated trio Bleeding Me-Outlaw Torn-Fixxxer) the two really underrated tracks are "The House Jack Built" and "Carpe Diem Baby", two absolute masterpieces in writing, structure, heaviness that while still being kinda "bluesy" and innovative (in line with the spirit of the records) are much more "tight" and "Metallica" than most of the other songs!
I don’t see it that way. “Best song” would be comparing it relative to ALL Metallica songs. “Underrated” is simply comparing a song’s quality to the recognition and respect that it gets. In my opinion, The Prince’s quality should result in more recognition and respect. The fact that it is a cover is not relevant.
@@DeweyJHall1 I think here comes revenge is badass. It was one of the first songs on the album that made me go "wtf is this song????" In a good way when listening to the album the first time or two.
@@midnight347 that was definitely a stand out track to me first time I heard it, also! One of my favorites from Hardwired. Same with Halo on fire. Confusion has grown on me in the last few years, also.
The Unamed feeling is my favourite from St Anger
Mine is probably Frantic but Invisible Kid is really underrated. Also, Sweet Amber, My World, Shoot Me Again.
No remorse is my favorite songs on Kill'em all 🤘🏼

Probably mine too. Either that or Whiplash.
From hardwired, I think the really underrated songs are Confusion and Here Comes Revenge. I love those songs but most people seem to not like them.
The house that jack built, thorn within, carpe diem baby, low mans lyric, the unnamed feeling, my apocalypse, Rebel of Babylon,Hell and back. All these songs are considered for me the most underrated songs, but I think Suicide and Redemption is the chosen one.

Carpe diem is way underrated. It’s one of my favorites. Suicide and redemption is also a favorite. I think it fits in with ktulu and Orion
@@NoneMoreMetal Why didn't you include cyanide. It's my favorite song
Where The Wild Things Are
Wasting My Hate

Top 5? I’m not sure. But it’s definitely up there.

Good list!! My 6 would be..
The Struggle Within
The Judas Kiss
Carpe Diem Baby
-Human
Eye Of The Beholder
Through The Never
The Judas Kiss is definitely overlooked. The chorus of that song might be the most musically “exiting” part of Death Magnetic.

Real good list. Eye of the beholder is the shit. It's just behind blackened as my favorite justice song and justice is my fav album.
Amazing how after Long time of listening to Metallica, you still sometimes find that clicks immediately
I actually prefer - Human over No Leaf Clover. Also think Beyond Magnetic is an underrated album. Hell and Back and Just a Bullet Away and great songs IMO
I know it's not a full album but so many metallica fans don't even acknowledge its existence. beyond magnetic is awesome and deserves better.
just a bullet away is one of my favorite songs of theirs, very underrated

The Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Where the Wild Things Are, Fixxxer, My Friend of Misery, Unforgiven 3.
