Not trying to be negative , not trying to get into any arguments but some folks just aint understanding me here. Throughout the years I have created, invented and modified a lot of gear. Having all this extra cookware is the very basis for those inventions you have seen throughout the years on my channel. One has to be surrounded by raw materials for projects and for inspirations to make new gear. Im not plugging store bought gear like other channels do, I create things, and being surrounded by junk helps me do that.

That could do double duty as a pizza tray for making pizza over the fire... just food for thought... :) 39:30 The square skillet you've got there would be great for grilled cheese and french toast too! :) one at a time of course...
Oh it is a lot of stuff! I made that grate to use as a steamer but yes, it would make a fantastic pizza or baking sheet. Ive made a lot of egg n cheese sandwiches in that little square pan!

I try my best to help out new and younger UA-camrs. I remember when I was a small starting out channel how all the big channels ignored me and never helped with the exception of three. Bushcraft Bartons, Sepp at Waldhandwerks and OregonMike. Those three were the only ones that talked to me and helped me back then.

The old Mirro pot with vented lid was actually a bun warmer. Mom would line with a heavy hand towel with part of towel to cover biscuits. Cover and keep in the oven til dinner is ready. Then it moves to the table and kept covered to keep buns warm. 1960's... Fun video!!!
Might even be older than that since I am 70 now and that was when I was still at home. Sad when stuff you grew up with are called antiques! Love your inventiveness, your straight foreword presentations, humor and passion for even the littlest of stainless steel pots!
I have a garage and a couple of closets full of stuff that when I need something, I don't have to buy it. I can modify something I already have. But I am astounded by all the camping stuff you have. Its absolutely fascinating! Thanks RBM1

Took me a couple days to watch this, but I did get through it all... As usual, very logical and useful gear. I always pick up any stainless I see at the thrift stores, some of my best gear. Really interesting video. This is what it's all about: creating, inventing, repurposing and reusing. And having fun doing it. Some day you should test the aluminium in that old Yugoslavian mess kit. Keep being one of a kind.
What a fantastic video, I love going to garage sales and thrift stores with an open mind looking at stuff thinking what can I do with that, and getting it for 50 cents. and then modifying to your needs. I love things like old thermos bottles 18 Gage food grade the bigger the better cutting them open taking 3 sizes 1 l, 750 ml, 500 ml making 2 nesting pots and a cup and using a wide mouth Bass spreader to hang them over the fire. some times if your lucky they have their lids with them and you can take it apart separating it into 2 cups or 2 bowels you are only limited by your imagination.
53:12 that basket with all the holes is a folding steamer basket except the center rod is installed in the wrong side of the base. The shorter rods are the feet and are on one side of the base. The longer rod is the handle for lifting the basket out of the pot and should be installed on the opposite side of the legs. You can stick a fork in the ring to lift as well. That's why when the basket is folded up there's a hole in the middle ... For the handle to stick through. xoxo from Arizona
Reallybigmonkey1, here's a steamer hack - put a coin in the boiling water, add your food. The coin will jingle as long as the water is boiling. water evaporates, no more jingling. and you've saved another pot from burning up! Works good in canners too. When I first saw the screen grab with you & all the pots on the table, my first thought was, is he really going to use UA-cam to address his hoarding issues! Then I saw where you went with your presentation. I am amazed with all your creative brilliance in mashing up some great solutions for taking mundane cookware & using it outside to smooth out the rough outdoors. The time flew by while watching & I just experienced an internet 1st with your grand finale - all I can say is your pot bag/balaclava/pillow gizmo just might also work as a pet Chinchilla sleeping bag & camp hammock nest thingy. Just sayin! Great video!

How many cook kits can a person have? I love this video.. Didn't think anyone could be a bigger packrat than me, but you did it. That Rival bake pot, mine actually came with a small grill like thing that you put in the bottom of a crock pot to set it off the bottom to bake bread etc. Thrift shops are the best shopping place to find treasure. One of the things I enjoy about your videos is the diy stuff. You inspire me to build gear, and that’s fun. We build 200’ aluminum boats, so the scrap is endless. Built me a version of the hanging table from your tree grill. 2 piece that’s connected and doubles in size when opened. And it can be configured in different ways with holes that I drilled. Maybe one day I’ll get a video on the line. lol. Thanks for the inspiration D.

Fantastic video! Makes me wish I had kept more of my grandmother’s old aluminum cookware. I see lots of it in the items you’ve found. I just never thought of using it for camping when I was a kid! I think some other commentators mentioned the Stanley kit; I’ll second or third that! For a one person trip I pair mine with a nested stainless cup and a small alcohol stove. If I need a pan I carry one of the old original stainless GI mess kits. Love the videos! It’s good to see bushcrafting in the same sort of terrain and climate I’m use to?

I've brought home so many weird pieces of stuff from the kitchen section of the thrift shops 😜😜 it's ridiculous! I started bringing back sturdy loose pot lids to match with the stainless bowls I had kicking around.. lol .. my cook sets are a mix of store bought pieces and home-cobbled parts.. they all work well for what I'm trying to get done.. that's all that matters! At about 20:00 I think those handles are made of Bakelite but it must have been one of the very last production runs because modern plastics were dominating before than.
I have that Rival pot!! I took it camping in the fall and cooked in it, worked great!! I have one of those collapsible veggie steamers, have not tested it in camp cooking though. just started uploading my tag video

I enjoy watching all the great cookware add ons and creativity you share with us, you give us tons of ideas and help us keep our eyes open if and when we come across different pots and pans to grab them. Big high five from Germany.
Dave you inspired me to make my own stove! I took an empty steel gallon container, like the square kind paint thinner comes in, and cut it into a movable firebox and stove. There's a flap cut out of the back to bottom feed wood, and the handle is a hollow piece of steel tubing I can use to blow in the fire, with tent stakes bent as hooks. Then the hooks swing down and act as legs to stabilize it. Thank you for showing me that homemade camping supplies can be as good or better than what you can buy. It was a lot of fun to make and I can't wait to take it camping!
A superb vid Dave. As you say, over the years you have gathered about you an innumerable amount of kit! Pots, pans ovens and cook kits of all descriptions. Many hours of UA-cam video is contained in them. It never ceases to amaze me when you come up with a grill or pot to use in situations that I can’t ever imagine. Hi Dave, Enjoyed your presentation. I like junk! I have collected many items of intrinsic value that I consider to be raw material. I have used this material to fix,repair and build items around the home and property. The latest project was a machinery shed roof repair. I had collected barn beams that I saved from a friend that was about to use them as fire wood. I traded fire wood for them. They were stored in my 1850’s vintage barn for potential future use. Some folks might consider that I qualify as a “mild” hoarder, including my wife! Fact is that I have saved many dollars and helped many of my buddies by providing them with the junk they need to complete their projects with material that would have ended up in a landfill. I appreciate what you have done with your collection. Keep up the good work.

I had a very weird kind of idea watching the video again. What if you could sculpt the faces of Flathead and Big Nose onto a pot? You could put them somewhere in your gear room watching what they helped create. After all they are speaking through you...

The old Mirro pot with vented lid was actually a bun warmer. Mom would line with a heavy hand towel with part of towel to cover biscuits. Cover and keep in the oven til dinner is ready. Then it moves to the table and kept covered to keep buns warm. 1960's... Fun video!!!

What a fantastic video, I love going to garage sales and thrift stores with an open mind looking at stuff thinking what can I do with that, and getting it for 50 cents. and then modifying to your needs. I love things like old thermos bottles 18 Gage food grade the bigger the better cutting them open taking 3 sizes 1 l, 750 ml, 500 ml making 2 nesting pots and a cup and using a wide mouth Bass spreader to hang them over the fire. some times if your lucky they have their lids with them and you can take it apart separating it into 2 cups or 2 bowels you are only limited by your imagination.

53:12 that basket with all the holes is a folding steamer basket except the center rod is installed in the wrong side of the base. The shorter rods are the feet and are on one side of the base. The longer rod is the handle for lifting the basket out of the pot and should be installed on the opposite side of the legs. You can stick a fork in the ring to lift as well. That's why when the basket is folded up there's a hole in the middle ... For the handle to stick through. xoxo from Arizona

Reallybigmonkey1, here's a steamer hack - put a coin in the boiling water, add your food. The coin will jingle as long as the water is boiling. water evaporates, no more jingling. and you've saved another pot from burning up! Works good in canners too. Many blessings from sunny Arizona. 77/48f 🌞 today.
When I first saw the screen grab with you & all the pots on the table, my first thought was, is he really going to use UA-cam to address his hoarding issues! Then I saw where you went with your presentation. I am amazed with all your creative brilliance in mashing up some great solutions for taking mundane cookware & using it outside to smooth out the rough outdoors. The time flew by while watching & I just experienced an internet 1st with your grand finale - all I can say is your pot bag/balaclava/pillow gizmo just might also work as a pet Chinchilla sleeping bag & camp hammock nest thingy. Just sayin! Great video!

That Rival bake pot, mine actually came with a small grill like thing that you put in the bottom of a crock pot to set it off the bottom to bake bread etc. Thrift shops are the best shopping place to find treasure. Ya.

One of the things I enjoy about your videos is the diy stuff. You inspire me to build gear, and that’s fun. We build 200’ aluminum boats, so the scrap is endless. Built me a version of the hanging table from your tree grill. 2 piece that’s connected and doubles in size when opened. And it can be configured in different ways with holes that I drilled. Maybe one day I’ll get a video on the line. lol. Thanks for the inspiration D.

Fantastic video! Makes me wish I had kept more of my grandmother’s old aluminum cookware. I see lots of it in the items you’ve found. I just never thought of using it for camping when I was a kid! I think some other commentators mentioned the Stanley kit; I’ll second or third that! For a one person trip I pair mine with a nested stainless cup and a small alcohol stove. If I need a pan I carry one of the old original stainless GI mess kits.

I've brought home so many weird pieces of stuff from the kitchen section of the thrift shops 😜😜 it's ridiculous! I started bringing back sturdy loose pot lids to match with the stainless bowls I had kicking around.. lol .. my cook sets are a mix of store bought pieces and home-cobbled parts.. they all work well for what I'm trying to get done.. that's all that matters! I threatened to send you some of my extra weird bits before.. now I'm not too sure you'd have ROOM for them 😂😂

Dave you inspired me to make my own stove! I took an empty steel gallon container, like the square kind paint thinner comes in, and cut it into a movable firebox and stove. There's a flap cut out of the back to bottom feed wood, and the handle is a hollow piece of steel tubing I can use to blow in the fire, with tent stakes bent as hooks. Then the hooks swing down and act as legs to stabilize it.
Thank you for showing me that homemade camping supplies can be as good or better than what you can buy. It was a lot of fun to make and I can't wait to take it camping!

Hi Dave, Enjoyed your presentation. I like junk! I have collected many items of intrinsic value that I consider to be raw material. I have used this material to fix,repair and build items around the home and property. The latest project was a machinery shed roof repair. I had collected barn beams that I saved from a friend that was about to use them as fire wood. I traded fire wood for them. They were stored in my 1850’s vintage barn for potential future use. Some folks might consider that I qualify as a “mild” hoarder, including my wife! Fact is that I have saved many dollars and helped many of my buddies by providing them with the junk they need to complete their projects with material that would have ended up in a landfill. I appreciate what you have done with your collection. Keep up the good work.

It would be interesting to see the projects you have conceptualized and not finished or even failed projects. Must be a few of them floating around. Super weird projects are fascinating and a very inciteful show of creativity.
