Well Punk was always a boys club really. They changed the scene for girls playing music and making art, and their legacy is with us today. "Cut" is one of the best albums to come from Punk. Their second "Return Of The Giant Slits" not far behind. From them came the Raincoats and later bands like the Mo-Dettes and Kleenex/Liliput. Madonna nicked their entire wardrobe. So did tons of 80s groups copping their reggae/rock/world music style and watering it down. It annoyed me that for nearly two decades they were nothing but a footnote in accounts of "women in rock." Barely a mention! But that's what you got for being the first, true originals. Now I see lots of all female groups doing what they were doing then.
All I learned in this was she was someone so obsessed with attention she would do anything, with the exception of listening to anyone else. God what an annoying person, all the way to her acting out an exaggeration of another culture she wasn't from. Must be so nice to have seemingly near limitless money to live a life like that, all the way to having kids she was unwilling to devote the slightest bit of attention to. I hope in reality she was a better person than what her act before a camera showed.
@@danielbutlerkelly8287ermm...telling everyone in the street in a jamaican fake accent that she is the original madusa dancehall kween? Unfortunately in our pc woke times problems like these are rarely discussed 😢
No, she was told by other rastas that her dreads were her strength and if she cut them off, then it would make her weaker. You obviously watched the video, so don't be obtuse.
After her band being almost written out of the history of "women in rock" she was entitled to embrace her musical legacy. It took decades for them to be recognised and included. She and the band were ripped off by the likes of Madonna, their whole style taken and watered down during the 80s by several bands who had much bigger success. Even the Spice Girls were partly based on their spirit and attitude. They were brilliant. Their first two LPs are genius. If you can recognise it. "Cut" is now considered a classic. There was nothing else like it.
I don't know anything of this person, but it looks like she was manic. I've known people in my life like that, they have the most amazing stories, but their whole life is a car crash.
Ari Up had the guts to travel and live in parts of the world people pretend to understand despite encountering countless difficulties. She should be remembered as a cross counter-culture folk hero Its actually quite hypocritical how John Lydon is preaching about behavioral responsibility despite profiting from becoming a music industry figurehead and rubbing up with English public relations daily
You probably could have tricked some people into taking you seriously if you would have given just a small indication that you were actually paying any attention to what you struggled to criticize. Early on she says very clearly and in very simple language that she puts her art out into the world and "You can take it or leave it". Back in the mid-70s, so 50 years ago there was a large shift in the culture that you missed. A lot of people found they could get their message heard... And didn't rely much on talent. It's easy to criticize stuff you don't know about, but it doesn't make you look smart.
Wahmen are talentless. They used to be useful as mothers, but even that is out of the equation as well. Today, our wahmen are nothing but a noisy, whiny, shrieking nuisance .....

Well but at least she grew up with parents performers, she just followed steps of her parental figures. That's Ari 's real life. While R.D. just made everything up.

Interesting video, thanks! John Lydon's never disappointed my admiration of him in 40yrs 💖 I love Ari's German-English accent Her effective mimic of Patois, chameleon eccentric, along with evident mental health issues (Probably not helped by violence age 15: stabbed 2x for being in a Punk band, raped for being female)- a strongly independent ID, bravery against bigotry mixed with genuine, naïve, care for others - to my [armchair psychologist] mind suggests a fellow ASD /ADHD (under diagnosed back in the day esp in females. Still is actually, I waited 40+yrs) - RIP, RIG :) x

You must be fucked up to begin with if you plan spending 10 years in the jungle bc basically you hate your dad🎉
Johnny Rotten was an exceptionaly patient man.
Bob Marley did the same he could have had very basic cancer treatment and a toe removed and still be here today but he had more faith in the magic man in the sky and eating the right plants
I could be wrong but I don’t think Bobs toe was cancerous. It was merely infected from a soccer injury.
But, as you say, cut it off and Bob’s your uncle

Clever
That's crap. She wasn't spoilt.
@@cannotfindmyshoes3 - in one sense she was rejected by her birth father, so not spoilt in that regard and clearly damaged by it.
On the other hand she had a very generous and loving stepfather and mother that were willing to clean up her mess, including raising all 3 of her children.
Overall, I'd agree with spoilt
Im sure John Lydon, who is down deep a decent feller, would not take kindly to all the ill-informed, ill-mannered mudslinging bein directed at his stepdaughter, a dead cancer patient, fer Godsake. Some fellers got no couth.🦃
Bundles of character
Big fan of punk since 78 but always hated the Slits I bet they only got signed cos Nora bankrolled them!
you have great videos man
The Slits were unique, but they were never good.
Fair play to the woman , lived her life the way she wanted too don,t have to agree or like her , but can,t deny her spirit 😊
I love the slits!! True punk originals!
She is awesome! Haters fk off
Ari por siempre !
Apparently she really believed the song Hurry Up Harry was about her being that it sounded like Ari Up. Let’s face it she was bat shit crazy 😂

Acting out an exaggeratiom of another culture she wasn't from, what do u mean?
@@danielbutlerkelly8287ermm...telling everyone in the street in a jamaican fake accent that she is the original madusa dancehall kween?
Thats basically what every modern woman does who loves men from other cultures. They try to run away from their family/tradition/identity bc their too incompetent to figure out their issues. So they turn themselves into this persona where none of their insecurities exist anymore.( It often has to do with body culture. )Of course it hardly ever works.
Unfortunately in our pc woke times problems like these are rarely discussed 😢

The Slits were a waste of electricity
A legend in her own mind
After her band being almost written out of the history of "women in rock" she was entitled to embrace her musical legacy. It took decades for them to be recognised and included. She and the band were ripped off by the likes of Madonna, their whole style taken and watered down during the 80s by several bands who had much bigger success. Even the Spice Girls were partly based on their spirit and attitude. They were brilliant. Their first two LPs are genius. If you can recognise it. "Cut" is now considered a classic. There was nothing else like it.

Ari Up had the guts to travel and live in parts of the world people pretend to understand despite encountering countless difficulties. She should be remembered as a cross counter-culture folk hero
Its actually quite hypocritical how John Lydon is preaching about behavioral responsibility despite profiting from becoming a music industry figurehead and rubbing up with English public relations daily

Wahmen are talentless
You probably could have tricked some people into taking you seriously if you would have given just a small indication that you were actually paying any attention to what you
struggled to criticize.
