- How easy is it to make a codeplug for the Retevis RT3S with OpenGD77? Very easy! It actually takes less than 20 minutes from start to finish.
This radio was provided to me by Retevis free of charge in exchange for some videos about the RT3S and OpenGD77. I did not pay for this radio except for import fees and sales tax, but I was not paid to make this content either. All opinions are my own.

Thanks for this video. I'm new to DMR - purchased a Retevis RT3S partially due to your reviews. I had OpenGD77 and was up and talking via my local repeater quickly thanks to this video!
Thanks for the kind words. I’m happy to help!
Great UA-cam Channel - I appreciate your time and effort you put in to create this content. 👏
Thanks for the kind words!
I just installed Opengd77 on my uv380 earlier today. It took me about an hour all together. Most of that writing the new code plug. People tend to panic when the first hear "code plug". Basically every radio needs a code plug. Even analog radios but with less info. It was quick for me because I only wrote 41 channels and group contacts. Easy built in import of IDs and it even pulls them from the source.
nice work, thanks for explaining this
You're welcome!
Thank you so much. Simple and understandable. I just converted my RD-5R to GD77. I instantly became lost. 🤣
You're welcome!
@@LB0FI - how so I find the original firmware/ Is it possible to go back after converting to GD77?
I have never tried, so I don’t know.
Thanks for the Pi-Star channel info!! I was still doing every Talk Group 😂 How about a Video on setting up APRS !?
APRS on the RT3S? It would be digital APRS then, and I really haven't looked into that.
Thanks for the video, I was thinking on trying gd77 on my rt3s too. 73´s ON1BSJ
It works like a charm!
@@LB0FI installed it yesterday, works perfectly
Thanks for the walk through, Morten.
I dont really know anything about OpenGD77 yet. What radio do you recommend for it?
I have only tried it with the Retevis RT3S, so I have no bigger frame of reference than that.
THX for your Video. Why is also a field in the Chanel Windows for the TS? You select the TS in the Talkgroup window. What is the diffrent?
Because you can override the setting in the talk group window as far as I understand.
@@LB0FI means, no matter what you have set as TS in the channel... it will be overwritten by the TS entry in the talkgroup?
Hi Morten, Does that mean that retevis still upholds its warranty even if you flash it with gd77?
That’s a good question. My answer is actually “I don’t know, but I wouldn’t bet my money on it!”…
@@LB0FI lol! Thanks!
If i add a digital repeater with a frequency split either vhf or uhf the RT3S won't transmit. Only flashing red led. Analog repeater splits are fine. Digital on hotspot either vhf or uhf are fine. Any ideas what im doing wrong?
Unfortunately not.
@figspigsandfeathers8179: Check to make sure you have the correct color code and time slot set.
Hello, is there any ready Codeplug for Norway?
Not that I am aware of.
The program is the original or also a different version that understands open gd77?
This is the OpenGD77 software, and not the Retevis software.
Hi Morten, I just followed your advice, now it's much easier to get my RT3S working, thanks! 73 de IW0DFD.
You are welcome. I have really grown a liking to this radio, and most of all OpenGD77
