    I eat Natto every morning with some rice. You gotta add a bit of mustard and soy sauce to it. It’s strange at first but you get used to it. If you get used to it, it tastes like roasted chestnut. But you have to stir it up aggressively to activate it. And it shouldn’t cost $12. The most I paid is $1.99 for a 3 pack at the Japanese store.

    I started eating natto last week. I never had an adverse opinion of its smell ( I adore Stinky Bishop cheese) or presentation, I do add nutritional yeast it is so delicious and more benefits.Buying it in the various market available is really pricy. So I purchased an Insta Pot to make my own but I also got it to make my Bulgarian Greek style yogurt. You get extra credit for pronouncing natto correctly.
    I haven't tried natto for over 40 years. My mom eats it and my sister too. She likes it with mustard. Too bad for me because I now have a CAC score of 123. I now take K2 400 or 500 mcg per day. Unexpectedly I noticed, after about two months on K2, my blood pressure lowered to normal. Also my tooth sensitivities went away. Happy days.
    I would stop at a Japanese, Korean or sometime an Asian market and pickup some frozen natto for my mom. It’s in little individual packets in the freezer section and probably more economical too.
    This video should help in case you haven’t looked, and there’s others on UA-cam.
    ua-cam.com/video/gvpdY844gX8/v-deo.html
    I’ll take a follow up CAC test in about 6 more months to see which direction my calcification is going.
    And thanks for wanting to be a doctor and not someone who just wants to cash in on sick peoples.

    In Japan, natto comes in a small Styrofoam pack and is always included with a salty fish type sauce with mustard. Even the Japanese need to add something to make it more palatable. I.e. they usually eat it with other foods like rice or breads.

    Interesting video, Natto did not look as bad as I thought, I will have to try it. One note, a decrease from 6.9% to 4.9% is a 29% reduction, very large percentage in my book. Also, very interesting point about the fact that Natto has many other ingredients than just K2 that could be a factor. I never really thought of it that way, more reason to try Natto. Thanks.

    • @whomadethatsaltysoup
      @whomadethatsaltysoup Рік тому

      Personally, I’d agree with the good doctor regarding the percentage. Unlike pharmaceutical sales literature, he states clearly that he is referring to absolute percentage. You, on the other hand, are referring to relative percentage. So, a difference of 1 percent and 2 percent is, well, 1 percent. Yes, it’s an improvement, but what about the other 98 percent?
      A good, or should I say bad example of this is where the sales of statins are based on a 50 percent decrease in the chances of dying of CHD as a result of this ‘miracle’ drug. Of course, the actual data shows an improvement of only one percent in absolute terms - up from 2 to 3 percent.
      Only when it comes to adverse reactions, does the rather dishonest sales pitch revert to absolute percentages. Just saying.
      As for fermented foods. Well, we have been consuming them for thousands of years, I don’t know of any studies that have shown kefir, sauerkraut, or natto to cause T2D, muscle or joint damage. There is certainly no evidence of The Japanese dropping dead in their prime - far from it, as I’ve noticed on my many visits.

  • @whomadethatsaltysoup
    @whomadethatsaltysoup Рік тому +3

    Interesting video. I’ve been visiting Japan for over a decade. I have to say, I had the locals in hysterics when they witnessed my first encounter with natto. Seeing a foreigner wolf down a portion of natto with spring onion, mustard and soya sauce - without coming up for breath - was obviously not a common occurrence.
    As someone who consumes a lot of fermented foods - kefir, sauerkraut, cheese and red wine - it just didn’t seem unnatural to enjoy natto.
    $12 for a tiny jar of natto? As we say here in Scotland: No danger! Recently, the three packs you’d usually find in Asian supermarkets have become more difficult to come by, and are significantly more expensive than pre brexit, pandemic and war with Russia.
    In Japan, a three pack costs as little as 60 yen - I’m guessing around 20 or 25 cents. In Scotland, the same pack sets you back around $6
    Simple solution: make your own! Most of us own some form of Instant pot. One pound of soya beans makes around 20 generous portions of natto. Just be sure to avoid the nasty GMO variety so commonly available in the States.
    There are plenty of tutorials out there, but the process couldn’t be simpler: Wash, soak overnight, cook, ferment, refrigerate, and enjoy!

    Great video, informative and funny. Thank you (and your son😓😂). Btw, you can mix natto with whatever you want so that it tastes more palatable. Japanese people do, usually with sweet soy sauce, a bit spicy yellow paste I can't remember what it is made of and rice. I personally put 50 g of homemade natto (sometimes with soybeans and sometimes with garbanzo beans) in a salad with a tsp of sauerkraut, different green leaves, tomatillos, avocado, black garlic, salmorejo (a Spanish veggie sort of sauce), cod liver/mackarel/sardines/tuna/raw salmon and EVOO. It tastes really good to me.

    I have tried natto with sauerkraut, kimchi and finally, I now eat it with 1/2 can of black beans. It's easy with black beans, I cut the frozen natto into 9 pieces, then eat each piece with some black beans, the soy beans and black beans have the same texture, and both soft, so just a couple chews and then an easy swallow, mostly just taste the black beans. Don't stir it up like the Japanese, that's just masochistic. It's cheap, and has the most k2 of any food (emu oil has more, but not so available, and is that a food?). It also has Nattokinase, the enzyme which dissolves fibrin (plaque in arteries is 8% lipids, 16% calcium and 65% fibrin) which is only in natto. So, K2 reduces the calcium, and Nattokinase reduces the fibrin, at least that's the theory.

    • @CardioGauge
      @CardioGauge  3 роки тому

      Hi ecom. No. fibrinogen break down is something a person needs if they are having an active stroke or heart attack. When that is happening, they need immediate, reliable effect. While nattokinase is a fibrinolytic, it is not reliable enough to take in the setting of a heart attack or stroke. Best bet for heart attack and stroke is to get to the hospital pronto.
      In terms of long term supplementation with a goal of reducing fibrinogen, I don't know of any trials which have proven that anything in this area reduces chance of heart attack or stroke.

    Matthew 17:21 has been removed from many modern Bibles admonishing us to fast and pray. Autography takes place after 16 hours of fasting and repairs and regenerates cells in our body. If you have taken the jab, fast and pray.

    Can natto be dangerous if it dislodge a blood clot you don’t know about? Or will the clot reduce in size too fast to pose a threath?

    • @baldwad
      @baldwad 26 днів тому +1

      It doesn’t dislodge clots it actually breaks the bonds that bind them. In other words Natto-kinase serves to dissolve clots. Search UA-cam for Natto-kinase and you’ll find some deep dives into the molecular biology.

    How many grams of natto (or tablespoons) do i have to eat ro get 100 or 200 mcg of vitamin k2? More power to your channel.

    • @CardioGauge

      you get about 10 mcg of MK7 with each gram of natto, so it would be 20 grams to get 200 mcg, which would be about 1 1/2 tablespoons. Thanks for the positive feedback!

    Natto is a weird traditional food, not good for kids but they give it anyway ( natto can make taste disorder, promote bleeding,increase heart disease risk… and other problems).
    That’s why I don’t give to my children natto ( they are half Japanese)

    • @baldwad
      @baldwad 26 днів тому

      Exaggeration. Natto has been eaten for thousands of years. Yes it can thin the blood. But not dangerously. It decreases heart disease risk. Taste disorder ?? What are you talking about.

    Good practical video. My homemade version is milder than commercial products. By controlling the fermentation time, I control the intensity. Also I eat it mixed with other food, as do traditional consumers in Japan. In my case it is broccoli sprouts and prepared mustard. Thanks for being a real person on your channel and going beyond the “talking head.”

      Is there a way to make sprouts without wasting time having to drain the water every 12 hours or so? It shouldn't be too hard to make a percolate machine that slowly pours in more water and slowly gets rid of the old water, I know Python & a bit of arduino.

      Salt pickles are the best haha! You can add ground ginger, garlic, onions, soy sauce, fish sauce, red peppers, to your pickles to make them taste a bit more like kimchi. Seriously, natto doesn't really have that strong of a taste. It took me longer to get used to drinking black coffee, romaine lettuce, and eating grapefruit.
