Why didn't I think of this?!? I've used french cleats in the shop/garage for years, but never thought about using them in a closet! Thanks for the ideas.
Very nice job Mike. It turned out very well there. Can't wait to see what u end up doing next. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend Mike. Keep designing. Keep Building. Keep repairing. Keep DIYing. Keep making. God bless.
Cool idea with the floating shelves, but I see some issues with some of the designs so I don't see them lasting very long. There are 2 main issues and I have solutions that will help their durability. 1) The shelves with the triangle on top will not last long using Brad nails. The shelf itself pulls down so the nails are in tension and over time they will slip out. I see 2 improvements that can be done. The first is to add some screws because they can withstand tension better. The second option is to make a bigger triangle that extends farther on the shelf and a bit taller too. This helps reduce the tension inn the nails at the edge of the shelf and more nails/screws can be added to distribute the load better to each fastener. 2) The french cleat for some of the shelves do not extend down far enough (as mentioned in the video). When a force is applied on the shelf it wants to rotate (think about a diving board) but that rotation is resisted by tension on the top half and compression on the bottom half. A cleat with a deeper base to it lessens the tension/compression on both ends (like how using a breaker bar requires less force). The short cleat base has a lot of tension on it and yet again the grade nails will eventually pull out. The two methods to improve this would be to use screws anywhere tension would be, and also to make a longer cleat connection so the bottom half has a larger area to push against the wall and reduce the tension in the screws on the upper half. This is an awesome project and I don't want to sound like I am here criticizing. I am a structural engineer so I visualize these forces and this just stuck out to me. I just wanted to offer some professional advice on how it can be improved is all.
1) aren't brad nails only for keeping material together while the glue dries? I don't think they are suppose to help with durability - the glue should keep it all together if the shelves will be used only for a few pieces of clothing. But yes - if the load will be greater, then i don't think those shelves will last a long time and both suggestions are good :)
That closet is sooooo awesome great job seriously and THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING. THIS HAS INSPIRED ME SOOOO MUCH FOR MY GARAGE AND MY BEDROOM CLOSET’S IN EACH ROOM.
I feel like you should mention that they're modular in the title because it's such an important reason why this closet is so special. It really is such a functional closet design, especially for kids since their wardrobe changes so quickly while they grow. This is a great design and it's definitely added to my list of projects when I purchase a home.
Here in our country, no one does any home renovation by their own. I don’t know if I'm ever gonna do anything like this but still I enjoy your videos a lot. Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Love this build/ closet makeover! It has that retail layout feel and makes your clothes/shoes presented nicely. Shopping in your closet. 😆 🙌 That pop of yellow too 😍🔥
This looks great and I think it would be perfect for a floating entertainment area. Perhaps with some ventilation to help keep set-top boxes cool. As well as holes with grommets for cable management.
You do great work. I think edge banding would be a great addition for anyone who wanted to make it look just a little more finished. Great ideas though
I love it! It looks awesome.. but I would take the doors off because it's not only hiding all that work you did but also all that gorgeous wood work. 👍
The plywood has gone crazy, prices have been varying, but according the the futures the prices are going to drop. That won’t be reflected at retail level until the hardware stores burn through existing stock. We joke that you have to mortgage your house to build your shed.
I would advise against picking up Glidden paint I know at the home Depot I worked at they never sold and they had a habit of flaking off on the inside so you'd end up with particles in your pain bahr however has plastic paint cans so you don't have the sheeting issue inside the can. I'm color blind and I worked in the paint department
It's kind of hard to see because there are not zoomed in shots here, but if you want to avoid the color bleed under the tape and maintain a super sharp line, make sure to splurge a little for green Frog Tape, and run over the edge with a barely damp cloth first to activate the bleed through protection.
I had this random idea. How about combining pegboards and the cleats with each other? The cleats could be attached as pegboard attachments. You could have more flexibility in arranging your shelves
Looks cool, but also looks impractical. An Ikea closet would be cheaper and better for all storage. Also it would go faster to set it up. Ive seen a few home made closets lately. All seem to be more impractical than a store bought system or closet. Also all seem to cost more or the same. Those shelves would not hold my clothes at all. But the size of the closet would easily do with better storage solutions. (drawers are so far superior to those box shelves that I cant even...)
That hole repair kit is awesome!! Way nicer than some of the stuff I’ve used. I’d hoped you were going to paint the closet interior yellow. Very nice though!!
Great video and design and build. My only complaint is that the music volume was a bit high most of the video for me. As a headphone wearer, I had it on one of the lowest settings. Otherwise I loved it!
Actually surprised that you kept the sliding doors. I have sliding closet doors and hate them because you can only access half of one side at a time. My plan is to convert them into accordion style doors that open and close instead to get more access.
Why didn't I think of this?!? I've used french cleats in the shop/garage for years, but never thought about using them in a closet! Thanks for the ideas.
Happy to help!
All of your jobs are fire‼️ big fan
Great looking closet, Mike. The look is attractive and the versatility is outstanding. Thanks for sharing the video with us.
I appreciate it! thanks for watching!!
Dang! I loved this video, so satisfying.
The intro snap cut!!! Great video Mike! Thanks for the fantastic work

omg, that island drawer box on french mounting is an amazing idea, and looks modern!
Thanks a million!!! 🤙🏼
This tuned out awesome, Mike!
Wardrobe simplicity at its finest. You can see and access everything with ease, truly efficient design.

Bruh ain’t no one gonna read all of that
@@collinanderson6876 I did!!!
I just read and found it quite helpful. It’s useful to have some pro-advice in regards to extending a projects lifetime.
Plus, with all due respect, “all of that” is not a “long” text…I mean…come on..? Guess ppl are reading less and less nowadays ¯\__(ツ)__/¯

Wait, you actually kintsugi'd your concrete floor?!?!?! I was totally kidding last time, but I'm glad you did!!! hahaha

Your ideas are fantastic, and you make sure to explain the process.
Thanks Mike, stay safe

I agree it looks great without doors
Looks amazing! I would like to know the name of the yellow paint you used on the bedroom door please!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻‼AMAZING‼👍🏻👍🏻
You should add some lights in there!
It’s crazy how much you sound like mandark from dexter’s laboratory. 😂👍
Hi Mike, awesome project. What’s the color code for that yellow paint? I like it.
Minimalist closets/wardrobes are the best

Amazing 🤙🏽
First closet I've seen with racing stripes! Looks great.
I think so too!
of course, his closet like a cartoon character, all the same thing. too good!
😂😂
This room definitely gives me Mac Miller vibes
aaaah!! I'll take that!

I can't wait to try this out in my workshop! Thanks for another great diy video
Right on!!!
Ha, I have yellow doors and trim as well.
Which brand of brad nail gun did you use?
Hi. Saw helmet in your closet. What bike you ride? Can share with us? Thanks in advance.. Love your build btw.
1979 bmw r100 it makes its appearances on instagram :)
Since you seem to have a lot of white shirts, what brand do you recommend?! I’ve never found one I like
$3 "George tees" at Walmart
I plan on doing a system similar to this for LEGO sets in my sons’ room.
awesome!!
Closet looks great but what about hanging rod for clothes?
Amazing
I had this random idea. How about combining pegboards and the cleats with each other? The cleats could be attached as pegboard attachments. You could have more flexibility in arranging your shelves
get a router and soften the edges on all that plywood. youll like it. awesome build though thanks

Some people just enjoy the DIY and customization, and Ikea doesn't in fact ship everywhere, so it isn't always an option.
What is the color of the jeans? The actual name that might appear on amazon or levis website :P awesome video :)
What is radiata pine??? Difference with regular pine???
That hole repair kit is awesome!! Way nicer than some of the stuff I’ve used.
I’d hoped you were going to paint the closet interior yellow. Very nice though!!
Brand and model of those brown boots? Anyone knows?
Ahhh mike where’s your mask at in the Home Depot 😬 great project tho!
Great video and design and build. My only complaint is that the music volume was a bit high most of the video for me. As a headphone wearer, I had it on one of the lowest settings. Otherwise I loved it!
What kind of boots are those
Can you come and do my weirdly designed closet. I need lots of hanging space but also like the drawer or cubbies space for extra stuff.
Start with scotch.....done.....ohhh tape.
MODULARITY!
KNOWLEDGE!
Where can i buy the premade version so i can just install it 😂
3M og scotch?
"I don't have the craziest wardrobe out there" - we know, same outfit every video!
Actually surprised that you kept the sliding doors. I have sliding closet doors and hate them because you can only access half of one side at a time. My plan is to convert them into accordion style doors that open and close instead to get more access.
Seriously how much does it cost for a full sheet of plywood. In Australia it's about $97 it's not worth making stuff out of at that cost
Yikes
You're government is insane...you pay the cost😘
$60 here.. .was $35-40 for radiata pine
does any1 else have a huge crush on him
You sound like a south park character 😆
unfortunately 😂
Hey!
Hi @Modern Builds!Nice work man !Great job !😊👏Greeting #Bulatsschmiede from germany (Bulat the Blacksmith)😊🤙
Why wouldn’t you put the shelves up the other way, so the triangles are underneath
He clearly didn’t put too much thought into it as he was redesigning on the fly. I doubt this will hold up to much use
I did on the clothes rack.. I wouldn've have been able to put the lower shelves as low to the ground if I did
@@ModernBuilds sorry for the misunderstanding. I really enjoy your videos. Can’t wait to see more.
