I'm a flight simmer who's recently gotten into derail valley, love the feel of guiding thousands of ton of train down a grade. To use a frequently abused term in the flight sim community, Run 8 looks like the "study level" version of train sim, looks like I might have a new time sink haha.
It's by far the most realistic physics of any train sim I've played. People knock the graphics all the time but the scale of Run 8 can be spectacular. I've had 3,000 railcars in one yard alone and it wasn't even close to a slide show for me performance wise. You could never see those numbers in TSW, Derail Valley or Railroader
The more modern rulebook says that you use full dynamics and as little air as possible, with a maximum of 15 lbs in general. As the grade flattens out, you reduce the dynamic. Don't know if there are any special rules for the Cajon though.
Super solid content. Train ops mostly from the cab, railroad history, real life anecdotes. What more do you need.
Yeah, they like demonizing that air now. I read somewhere the other day with the UP and their DPU ops requires them to run the train bunched at all times. Thanks so much for the compliment, I really appreciate it friend!
Great video. I learned a lot that will help with my own Run 8-ing. Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
love your show .you have taughjt me so much.
I saw some pictures of someone’s 90’s Cajon run the other day and it definitely piqued my interest. This solidified it lol. When I get around to Cajon, I’m definitely going to try an SD only run
Oh, there's nothing like good old-fashioned railroading from 30-40 years ago. It was the absolute best!
That was a lot of detail at the beginning. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Kerbo!
Another great Run8 video Spur! I never knew that was the axle temperatures displayed in each car info box. That’s cool!
Did I miss the source for that timetable you referenced? Is that something us normal humans can find? Fantastic video - I love the pre-trip analysis!
That's a Nathan P3 horn
Thanks!
I'd do what you did and get into dynam
ics a bit early. Seems every time I get air, I get stuck brakes on some cars, smoke time! I only use air a bit when I really need to. Thats just me though lol
Can't go wrong with a quartet of EMD's. I miss seeing SD40-2/SD60 quartets on CP crude oil and ethanol trains, they sounded awesome notched out. Boring gevos now.
You're absolutely right. 40-2s had the best rhythm to those engines on a hard pull. GEVOs are definitely boring, it's all the same. Same signals, same engines, everything has been homogenized and sanitized down to a few basic things in railroading.
Did run 8 change the way you start up the trains?when i click on to the train to auto start the trains it place you in the cab
Not that I know of, but I haven't been in Run 8 in a few weeks. I'll probably be jumping back in sometime next week.
