According to something I watched, the San Bernardino train disaster in the 80’s was because of a series of negligent mistakes made by various people. The weight of the train was like 2000 tons more than what the crew thought it was, so they left Mojave yard with not enough power. Also, the dynamics didn’t work on one of the helpers and the crew in the lead unit was not made aware of the problem.
I've seen that before, a while back. I think the weight miscalculation had something to them loading with a wheel loader that also weighed? Somehow it was all off. I think they wound up having a unit with a bad db on the head end as well as the helper. It was just a Swiss cheese effect of failures.
My wife gets mad at me whenever I talk about trains. I've been considering having her attempt the downhill grade here at Summit in Run 8 to see if it gives her a new perspective on things. Can't wait to see her face when she ends up in the dirt.
@@spurgaming5400 Agreed. My wife is impatient. I love her to pieces, but I swear if she understood the finesse that goes into the real thing like I do she would see me and my love of trains in a new light...
Really enjoyed this one Spur you did it like a pro. If you never read the Duffy St accident report check it out and you can see what happens when you don't have enough dynamics. Among other fatal mistakes in that accident. Virtual Railfan has a Cajon Pass cam where you catch BNSF intermodal trains. 👍👍👍
Great video as always Spur... I had a runaway once before finding this video. :) Cajon pass is also used by aircraft to get into the basin and was a challenge to get into Ontario without being too high and fast. Many a go around as ATC keeps you high close to the airport due to terrain and sometimes traffic. The key was to slow to 210 at 13000 before base leg and then add flaps early slowing down and gear down early in the 737 as you are only 20 miles from the airport.. In the B737 you can either slow down or go down you can't do both.. LOL! Always a fun challenge.

Cajon can be challenging. Its a game of patience and small adjustments.

Fascinating. Love your real life experience added to the downgrade scenario.
Thanks!
Do you play on any online server? There fun too. Love your videos
Thanks! I really appreciate it. I have done MP in Run 8 before but its been a really long time.
I know you kept calling it San Bernardino but that kind of looks like Barstow yard. Am I wrong?
Yeah, it was San Bernardino. I didn't go anywhere near Barstow in this. Actually, started a good but south of there just shy of Summit.
I wish you take hill 582 route
