He was prowling insta for girls he could have. He assumed he could simply have Saltanat if he simply messaged her, undoubtedly very very used to getting everything he wants in short order. When she rejected him, he probably decided then that he would manipulate her until he had complete control and then tear her apart slowly until she had no will of her own. Over time he broke her down psychologically and emotionally, no doubt using physical and sexual violence to further degrade and destroy her. The moment she rebuffed his advances on Instagram, he had decided he would make her his possession and once he'd had a bit of fun he would destroy his plaything. Make no mistake, this was premeditated, murder with malice aforethought. He decided immediately that he would take her will, take her spirit, and then take her life.

Sadly, sometimes it's not easy to get a window of opportunity. In my case, it took 3 years. I owe my life to a wonderful downstairs neighbor who had Down's Syndrome, and I was always checking in on her to see if she needed anything when I would go to the grocery store. So the night I was finally able to get out, it was because she heard the commotion coming from my apartment and she called the cops. Thankfully my kids (who were just babies at the time) were up north at my parent's house so my neighbor knew it wasn't a toddler throwing things around. When the cops came and took my (then) husband to jail, my neighbor ran up to me crying and hugging me and telling me she hoped she didn't see me there again because then she knew I would be safe. I wish I could tell that lovely lady thank you for saving my life. To your point about it being harder when you're pregnant, you are soooo very right! I tried leaving after I had my 1st daughter, but he manipulated me into staying and I got pregnant again (my girls by him are only 18 months apart in age).... I later found out that he planned to get me pregnant again by sabotaging all of his condoms (he wouldn't allow me to go on the pill, which sounds stupid that I went along with it, but I was only 20 years old and scared). I did find my soulmate a few years later and knew each other for 2 years before we started dating. We've been together now for 25 years, married for 19 of those years, and have a beautiful daughter together... All thanks to that wonderful girl who lived downstairs and looked out for me with all the love and empathy that only someone with her condition could feel unconditionally.
I don't know why I felt the need to share all of this with a complete stranger, other than maybe to let people know that essentially being a hostage to a violent partner isn't without hope. It's not easy getting out, but once you can and do, you become the sole author of your own future.
I always encourage ladies (and men as well) to call their local DV hotline for help and resources.

As a female citizen of Kazakhstan, I am so grateful that you paid attention to that case and spread information about it. It is obvious that he is guilty, but we still have people who say that Saltanat deserved everything that happened to her. We have dozens of cases like that where women are tortured by their husbands and no one helps or protects them. Physical and mental abuse towards women is still perceived as normal in Kazakhstan. However, with the help of other people, I hope that we can change that situation for the better, so every woman or child can be happy and feel protected. Thank you for supporting Kazakh women and Saltanat's family in such hard times.

Stephanie, I thank you so much on behalf of all Kazakhstan citizens for covering this atrocity. Our government is known for sweeping cases involving higher ups under the rug. We’ve had a law that considered household violence a “misdemeanor” for such a long time. To the point that when such case filed they would bring both parties to “make up” in court if it was first time offense. Outrageous. After this case gained attention the laws were changed. So you making a video on it itself is such big help for Kazakh women. I sincerely believe even this one video can change things in my home country. I’m so glad such a wonderful person like you has such a powerful platform. Much love from your Kazakh subscribers ❤️

One thing about Saltanat, she really loved children and wanted to become a mother. There’s a video of her, recorded by her friends. They were hanging out at an open-air restaurant, and a boy came out with children's books. He was selling them, and Saltanat bought a few books to support him. One of her friends asked, “Who are you buying these for?” She smiled and replied, “My future children I’ll keep these books for them.” And she never had a chance to become a mother…
Another thing that breaks my heart: her elderly grandmother still thinks that she’s alive. The family didn’t have the heart to tell her, as she probably wouldn’t take it well. She always asks about Salta, and I wonder, she’s probably upset by the fact that Salta is not visiting nor calling her.

I grew up in a family in which my father beat my mother; 90% of children from Kazakhstan grew up in the same families. My father was a terrible tyrant, but my mother did not leave him, she suffered because of me and my sister, but her patience came to an end and after 13 years of hell in her marriage to my father, she divorced him. It's been 5 years since their divorce, and I'm glad my parents are not together. Having learned about Saltanat’s case, I thought that if one day when my father raised his hand against my mother, he had hit her a little harder than usual, then she, too, could have ended up in Saltanat’s place. My mother was also bright, cheerful, just like Saltanat, until she got married, my father extinguished the fire that was in her, trampled her and with his manipulations turned her into a woman who was dependent on him. I am ashamed of my father, I am ashamed that I am the daughter of such a man who beats a woman. My father was never a good husband and never learned to be a good father. I think this is a problem for all of Central Asia. Recently in Kyrgyzstan, Rakhima Aikymbayeva was killed by her ex-husband. She was stabbed 27 times while holding her baby. Many men here kidnap and force women to marry them. In one case, the police arrested a kidnapper and kept him and the girl he kidnapped in the same cell (God knows why), he soon killed her and attempted suicide. In another story, an ex-husband cut off his ex-wife's nose and ears during a quarrel. They don't consider us equal. And in our society ppl think that it's shameful to raise your voice and tell that your husband beats you. So imagine how many unspoken violence behind the courtains

UPD:. I rewatched the video and there is one major mistake regarding Saltanat’s head trauma. It is what Bishinbaev is trying to claim: that Saltanat apparently had a head trauma from 3-4 weeks ago (which would be very hard to prove that he had any relation to) and this old blood leak caused her death. Like she was falling on the toilet, on the floor again and again, and this old trauma worsened and she died because of it. BUT IT’S NOT TRUE.
As per expert report Saltanat had a MICROSCOPIC blood leak in her head, it was from 3 to 4 weeks ago. In no way it could have been a cause of her death.
FYI, a blood leak in the head is life-threatening when it’s 50-60 mL. From all the trauma Saltanat sustained that night blood leak in her head was 230 mL!! A FULL ASS GLASS OF BLOOD. And it all was a new blood from the beating on November 9th…
An expert, who was questioned in court, stated that with such amount of blood in the head Saltanat must probably won’t be saved even if ambulance was called while she was still alive. What kind of a person you should be to beat someone till such a state…
As of today (May 9) the court hearing is over and we are awaiting the result.
2 weeks ago Bishinbaev finally gave the court an access to his phone and what they found there was horrific. It’s not clear if he forgot about the existence of those video or he thought that he deleted them somehow, but there was around 27 videos of him torturing Saltanat, that he filmed himself. Videos are filmed between 6 AM and 8 AM and with each new video she has more trauma on her face and body. There was videos of him belittling her, asking her gross questions, beating her. She’s naked in half of those videos and he even tried to forcefully spread her legs while she’s in the ground naked, beaten, weak and film her private parts.
