As a peruvian who watched this unfold in real time there's a few things you missed. 1. Brian was Ruth ex, he started to harras her for the money the moment the show ended, even when she still hadn't received the money. 2. He paid a kid to called him when Ruth get off the bus that take her home, he kidnapped her with the help from his uncle and beat her in his mototaxi, police found blood there. 3. He drugged her so she would give him her bank account info, she didn't, so they SA her and torture her . 3. They killed her and pretend to be a crime of passion bc at the time there wasn't a law for feminicio, and crime of passion got less time. 4. He indeed was no longer his bf, but been called a cachudo on newspapers and tv (guy who was cheated on) played a part on his ego. 5. Ruth's sister said that the show knew a lot of the answers were false, but still told Ruth to tell them for rating.
Because the show told them to say false answers, even when they new it wasn't true. Of course they could have rejected but we don't know the conqnes of that and if they needed my the money.Im not saying they show is 100% at fault but it definitely isn't blame proof @@Ruqayalove_01
@@Ruqayalove_01 because it's a show that's broadcasted live in national TV. They're very clearly showing her identity and how much money she's making from the show, there were no protections in place to prevent this kind of thing, especially femicides (which happen VERY often in Peru, unfortunately). I didn't know about #5 so that's even worse because they're putting her in even more danger. This was the first ever episode of the show (it's since been canceled but after what happened to Ruth they only asked high-profile people (idk how to explain it but basically not regular citizens) to come as guests) and while yes, some of the issues were huge oversights, the show basically telling her to lie/exaggerate is a blatant disregard to her safety
"The Moment of Truth" marked a low point in television history. I remember watching its premiere on Fox and thinking, "This show will ruin lives." Your story about this unfortunate contestant and her family proves I was right.
@@liberatumplox625 yah but you have to compare it percentage wise using how many women are in that countries population. In that aspect, it is really high for Peru and saddening for every country it happens in.
@@ElinWinbladAccording to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons (NamUS) database, over 600,000 people go missing in the US each year. However, some people are reported multiple times, so that number doesn't represent the exact number of people who disappear. NamUS also says that tens of thousands of people remain missing for more than a year, and that about 4,400 unidentified bodies are found each year.
People disgust me, and I’m not at all talking about Ruth. I was naive as hell at 18 and producers would’ve manipulated her in any way they could on top of her financial desperation. Dare I say the country’s conservatism is responsible for all the mental torment. I just can’t stand how society and the media are so rotten
At 18 she was not naive enough to lie, to live a double life. Or to work in a strip club. Or to engage in prostitution. Not naive enough to sell her body and soul for money. If she was that naive then she wouldn't try to cover up her double life, she knew what she was doing she just didn't have the capacity to care. She said it herself - she admitted to just being with the boyfriend till someone better comes along and admitted to being embarrassed by the parents. This is clearly a person deeply lacking in care and empathy. Not a case of naivety.
@@DD-hp9vo you do realize that there are prostitutes at all ages, even young children, right?? she was desperate for money and sold sex for it. it doesnt make her some cunning criminal or a bad person. Plenty of girls who are poor start selling themselves at like 12 years old without the assistance of a pimp. That doesnt mean that they are evil geniuses at 12, just shows that they are desperate and nothing more.
@@DD-hp9vocome on, people make mistakes. She was trying to rise above her situation, didn't know any better, or maybe she did not fully understand the consequences of her actions. Doesn't mean she sold her soul. Doesn't mean she tried to hurt those who loved her, and it is obvious that she was the one who got hurt the most in the end. She was killed. She is the victim here.
@@DD-hp9voi think you're forgetting that an 18 year old is still very much a teenager. she would not have been fully developed mentally, neurologically- not even physically. when you live in a situation like hers, and you're young and subsequently careless, you make stupid, dangerous decisions. I know I certainly did at 18. I think the only person lacking empathy here is you.
Literally if she lived in Australia none of her confessions would have been a bid deal. Nor should they be. Some countries are messed up they still exist in the middle ages.
This show (in other countries) actually has ruined so many lives. The producers genuinely should never be allowed near a camera again. Seriously, look into it, cause I'm 90% sure this is not the only death linked to the show
I mean, there’s always going to be self centered people filling the neiche, and there will always be people with no shame and I’m sure it’s saved some people from being in a relationship with a horrible person
Stop it. If this show was as popular as everyone says it was then these people, who voluntarily came on the show, knew what they were getting themselves into.
@@adanice49 the murder, had nothing to do with the show and everything to do with the humiliation which they signed up for. Plenty of people on that show got humiliated. The show has nothing to do with a murder. Can’t blame the show for that.
I had to rewind some parts a couple of times bc i thought i missed something, especially about the last question of the show that Ruth had to answer. I thought i missed when Steph said what the question was, turns out, she hasnt even mention the question yet. The wording and structure of the videos lately have been really confusing for me :/
surprisingly i followed along well, even while i only listened to the audio on apple podcasts first. it’s just like when shows keep having flashbacks but i honestly didn’t mind it
No one absolutely NO ONE deserves to lose their lives the way Ruth did. The boyfriend & his co-conspirator deserve the harshest punishment possible. This is a tragedy that confirms that the love of money truly is the root of all evil. This girl destroyed her life and broke the heart of her loving parents/ family for money…SMDH.
I agree no matter what she didn’t need to die for what she did. The shame was enough…but everything she did them ife she live and gave her body and soul for was what fell on her. She and her choices was her demise. She had a supportive family wasn’t going to be homeless she wanted a different life and was willing to sacrifice well she thought until the real price had to be paid
Remember, the money they promised her, and any money she may have acquired in her private life, was a tiny fraction of what the producers made in airing the show. No matter what the contestants do or say, the makers of the show are the ones destroying people (especially young, impressionable people prone to questionable judgment choices) for profit.
@@quep771 ur right she didn't deserve to die but she played a dangerous game u can't humiliate someone on public television or the internet and expect them not to get even

I'm Peruvian. The show went on for many years, only changing the people in the red chair. They stopped being just any people and put national celebrities, used to ask them about the scandals they had had and similar things.
Me too! The 1st time, I was so confused and had to rewind to see what happened. Once I realized, it felt like I was watching an episode of "how to get away with murder"
It's probably because the full version of her videos is not on UA-cam. She edits them down for UA-cam. Full version is available on Spotify Video I believe.
At the very least… The court system didn’t believe his BS, ordered compensation, acknowledged that the crime was premeditated and gave him the maximum sentence possible. Other than her family, it was the one system that didn’t fail Ruth!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one here who thought the storytelling in this one was confusing. Usually, Stephanie’s storytelling is quite easy to follow and actually very enjoyable. I was surprised I was finding it hard to follow this episode even though I listened to it three times. Anyways, Stephanie if you see this, don’t be discouraged. You’re incredibly talented and a very very good storyteller in my opinion. I just wanted to tell you that in your next video, maybe try and explain certain things people didn’t understand. The story really is incredibly complicated, sad, and rare. So it can happen. Continue being amazing and we look forward to your next hit 😊
She absolutely did not deserve to die but she is not an innocent victim. She chose to humiliateher entire family. Even in the US it would be humiliation. She chose to humiliate her family for money. That is a selfish immoral person. She didn't deserve to die but definitely deserved to be shunned. Not for doing the things that were revealed but to humiliate your family for money revealed what she was
@@angella7576- I argue that she is innocent. Due to her answers, one could argue that she was doing it for everyone, to help her family. I do understand what you're saying but to me, you're blaming her. Even saying her boyfriend(now ex) is just a replacement for the next one is also not an intelligent thing to do. The ex is fucking psycho but i wouldn't be on a show(Live show), telling the world about it while my identity is exposed. Especially in a country that lacks laws to protect me from these psychos. There is a saying, "don't poke the sleeping bear", "curiosity kill the cat" there is a reason why this saying exists. Peruvian American here! Will update as I continue watching the video: - I’m 99% sure that Peruvians call people “bestia” (beast) ONLY as an insult. My parents have always used it to insult or describe bad drivers, abusers and murderers on TV, etc. EDIT: -Beto Ortiz rose to prominence after my parents left Peru, so I’m not familiar with him. But looking through Spanish Wikipedia, it seems that people call him a bestia because he’s not “politically correct,” because of his reaction to Ruth’s murder, and because of his own scandal of alleged pedophilia (alleged because it seems to be an ongoing investigation).

This is the realest answer. I’m looking in the wallet. If it’s a kid or a girl or an old person I’m giving it back. If I see platinum cards an American Express black card that’s goin straight to me
This was an actual hard question to know whether the lie detector would say lie or not. The situation is different depending on the context of how the money was dropped and whether it was obvious who the money belonged to. Just me thinking about this might trigger a lie reading no matter which answer I chose.
This is very much like the murder of Scott Amedure, who went on the Jenny Jones talk show in 1995 and professed his love for a male acquaintance. I remember seeing parts of the episode of the one where the daughter believed her father had sexual relations with a minor. That’s just so crazy.
Supposedly, a polygraph can be beaten by getting worked up during the “baseline” questions such as your name. Polygraphs measure things like heart rate and breathing, which probably could be affected by stepping on a thumbtack. You have to have either zero response to any question (like a sociopath) or the same reaction to every question. If you seem nervous/sweaty while answering your name, they won’t think you’re lying when you’re nervous/sweaty from the difficult questions.
Polygraphs are unreliable in general. It's just a heart rate monitor. It doesn't tell anyone why your heart rate increased. Someone just makes assumptions and speculates that your heart rate increased because you lied. They supposedly have a 60% accuracy, which is really low considering someone can randomly guess if you're lying or not and be 50% accurate.

I wanted to ask if you could cover the case of a Kazakhstan Ex-Minister killing his wife inside of a restaurant. Her name ist Saltanat Nukenowa. She seemed to always have been abused by him because friends noticed she had bruises on her body. There seems to be concrete evidence about her killing but it is talked about that he is going to get a light sentencing.
I did some more research and it is devastating what happens to her. Another woman being a victim of domestic violence and the lawyers are absolutely cruel towards the deceased. He beat her brutally inside a restaurant in Astana, how did no one notice anything? How could he stay the night inside the restaurant with his already dead wife? Even if she slipped and fell more than once, so hard that she ended up passing, why did he never call an ambulance? It’s so sad and devastating to know how her life ended.
Stephanie, hi. There's a statement you said that in Peru prostitution is legal, actually it's in a gray area, because there is no law stating that it's a crime in our constitution ("ok" in law but no for the society), but there's no law that recognized it as a professional occupation, which is why they are often exploited by gangs or mafias and end up as victims
Does Peru’s law recognize self-employment as a miscellaneous service provider? Then prostitution probably goes under this category, and therefore, is a legal occupation. Pretty sure the law does not extensively list all possible professional occupations on earth. Not ok by society does not make something illegal, by definition
@@rezhaadriantanuharja3389Actually, prostitution isn't looked like a self-employment type of job in Peru, it's more like a voluntary act to work in this type of field that's why it isn't included as a legal occupation. And about the illegal part, my mistake, what I mean is that peruvian society stigmatize prostitution that's why the question they made of her had a big impact.
True but legalized sex workers still get exploited, abused and menaced into non consensual acts. Just because it’s legalized doesn’t make it perfect and to be blunt sex work is all around physically and emotionally draining and simply not good for any party involved, no matter how you spin it or how it looks from the outside/on social media. We as a society would be better off working on a grass root level against it, creating opportunities where young women don’t need to turn to those types of jobs and that type of consumption isn’t promoted.
A truly ghastly, horrific, sad story. You're a very talented and engaging story teller. I replayed the last question about three times before I realized I hadn't missed it but you had yet to reveal it! (I didn't see the "Money for s*x?" title until after I'd watched the video.) I am now a new subscriber.
Ruth's mom learning the news from the news reporter completely GUTTED me. My heart tore into a million pieces for her. I cant imagine the absolute shock and pain, AND to have such a vulnerable moment filmed like its entertainment... The way the media handled it, its so disgusting....
This is so sad... She was only 18, when I think back to being 18, I thought I figured out the whole world, I thought I knew what I wanted and when I wanted it in life, I thought I'm on top of the world, so how could I judge someone in a much harder financial situation than I have ever been in, no, I couldn't and wouldn't judge her.
Nah most of us are not working in strip clubs secretly and then going on tv to admit they don’t like their bf and lied everything else to their parents Ruth is just an idiot who will always stay an idiot
my cousin passed a polygraph and he was guilty. he had stolen $ from where he worked. how did he pass? he was a contrarian who loved negative attention, so he was unaffected by being suspect. the measurables revealed his apathy, but not his guilt. no thumbtack was needed
There's also ways they can make you look like you're lying when you're not. Interviewers can get truthful readings from you, then suddenly start asking questions in a much more aggressive and confronting way - "Are you having an affair with x?" vs "Do you jerk off thinking about x?" Being embarrassed or surprised doesn't register the same as your truthful reading, so you're "lying."
I love how the guys responses (when he's like "Whaaaaat" in response to "She traded money for sex") gives off such a "Okay, I really dont give a shit" kind of vibe/energy, like when someone's telling you a story or fact and you really aren't interested ya know 🤣
i don't know if this will be seen by anyone working for Rotten Mango, but I think it would be a really cool idea (if the researchers/employees were comfortable with it) if the end of the show had 'credits'. I think that would be such a lovely way to give credit to the people behind the screen. Sending so much love always x I am so lucky to have been a subscriber since the very beginning. Watching you grow has given me so much confidence within myself and I have been able to share with my friends as well. Happy vibes to you and your loved ones x
That might be a good and bad idea, on one hand the researchers can get credited and acknowledged, but on the other hand their names being revealed might compromise them for harassment or worse, since no matter how neutral and fact-based Stephanie presents these cases, some of them are VERY controversial cases :/
maybe refrain from using words like "excited" when she's describing the death of a real human being... it's okay to have curiosity about cases like these but do not take the humanity out of these cases, a real person was murdered...
this episode was slighty more difficult to understand. for some one with adhd it felt like you were all over the place with the scenarios and got lost multiple times trying understand which scene you were at.
Yeah, especially that 14-minute lede-burying was really hard to keep track of. Hopefully the folks who wrote this episode learn to string together a more solid timeline of events and not skip around for the sake of drama to this extent - it doesn't even result in tension the way it was done, just frustration.
I think that Brian was actually her pimp. Him having killed her was purely about money nothing to do with passion or public humiliation. His modus operandi into her murder was that of a typical ruthless pimp.
Polygraphs don't stand up in court because they can also show that you are lying when you are not. They go both ways. Someone can beat a polygraph by say, stepping on a thumb tack, but on the flip side, If someone is nervous, that can cause it to say they are lying even If they are not. If someone tells a lie, but completely believe that lie, they will pass. There's no way of knowing what is really the truth or lie, believed or not believed, and no way of knowing exactly what the lie is(part of the question, or the answer itself). This is why nowadays they combine the polygraph with observations of body movement and facial expressions and then link those with evidence they have. A polygraph on its own only shows what makes someone nervous, but not why.
I'm Peruvian and I was around Ruth's age when this happened. It was shocking to hear about the show when she disappeared but I don't remember anyone on any news network reporting on the case as "the prostitute" from the show. Her name became extremely well known and we all knew her as the first contestant of the show. I reviewed the show notes looking for any evidence that pointed that out but could find anything. What actually happened was that some everyday people did call her like that even after she passed away. Everyday Peruvians with no compassion were that callous, but that didn't happen on the news, at least that didn't happen in Peruvian news.
Thank you for commenting this. Hearing her say that in English wasn’t so bad, but when I said it out loud in Spanish, I had to pause and process it, because even if it’s a bad word in English, it just feels so much worse in Spanish and I can’t see a lot of news sources using it, particularly any reputable ones.
Exactly! I was in high school when I saw the news, but I know that most of the news in tv, online and some newspapers reporting the case as the first winner of the show but not "the prostitute", maybe a couple of the 'chicha' newspapers that create big headlines as bait to buy and read their side of the story
@@dunnoknowthiscatI agree with you. And to clarify, 'Chicha' newspapers are a very very low Tier newspapers focused only in getting buyers with Fake news or exaggerated headlines.
Thank you!! I was 19 when this came out and EVERYONE and their mother knew her name! Maybe a chicha newspaper called her ‘The prostitute’ but I never saw it and it wasn’t on tv. I couldn’t find anything either. Also, I know she’s a victim of a horrible crime but when the show came out everyone thought she was awful, not for the sex thing but because she was so embarrassed of her parents. She repeatedly stated how they were poor and ignorant, how she deserved so much more and their hard work was not enough so she had to dance at a nightclub to get more stuff. It was bad. So there was a lot of people saying she deserved it because of her greed. It was an awful case all around.
But honestly wat was the expectation? She herself admitted to this, she said yes she participated in prostitution. Aside from this she admitted to other questionable choices regarding other forms of sex work - i.e. dancing/stripping in a nightclub known to offer sex services in Peru. So why is it offensive, what was the expectation if she WILLINGLY admitted to this on such a public platform.
My girlfriend is Peruvian, i visit her alot, yes they are quite conservative, she's 25 and she was afraid to ride to my hotel for fear of her family calling her out lmao
I discovered your UA-cam channel by accident and after briefly browsing through the context of the topics, I am finally satisfied that I will finally have something to listen to with professional analysis.Best regards 👏😘
Wow! For a moment I thought you were covering the American 00s Moment of Truth. The wildest one was a wife openly admitting to not only cheating on her husband, but cheating on him with his best friend and coworkers....while he's sitting like 10ft away ☠️ apparently prior to the show, he knew that she had cheated "once" but didn't realize the full extent. She ended up getting eliminated because when asked if she believed herself to be a good person, she answered a confident yes but the lie detector said it was a "lie". I think it was mostly the producers trying to ixnay her off.
The fact that she lost on that was just a perfect summary of how pathetic of a person she was. Can’t believe the guy just stood and took all of that too.
This!!! When I saw this episode, I was trying to remember the show where it happened and it was called moment or truth. That moment was in the news for weeks lol
there was a colombian version that was cancelled shortly after a woman on it was asked if she hired a hit man for her husband, and she said yes AND WALKED AWAY WITH MONEY BC IT WAS THE TRUTH
I watched that episode with my mom the night it aired (all the way back in 2008), & I can STILL remember how horrendously uncomfortable it was to watch! I couldn't imagine being that woman's poor husband, he looked utterly devastated & you could just tell she completely broke his heart. Not only did she admit to cheating, she also admitted that she wished she was married to her ex-boyfriend instead of her husband. Afterward, she said she went on the show in an attempt to gain "fame & fortune." 🙄 And after all that, she ended up leaving without a single dime. That's karma for you 😂 I hope her (now ex-) husband is doing much better these days.
"ixnay" - Just got an interesting etymology lesson out of your comment. At first I thought it was some sort of misspell, then decided it seemed deliberate so I looked it up. A pig latin word that has entered the mainstream lexicon...crazy
I love every one of your videos and enjoy the flow of your story telling. With this video though, you held out too long with revealing the final question. Maybe its just my adhd but i kept thinking i missed it and wasnt paying attention! Haha
Hi, Stephanie, there’s a crazy case floating around about Kazakhstan’s ex-minister Bishimbayev unaliving his wife in a karaoke bar. And He told that the wife hurt herself by slamming her own head to the toilet! The story is unhinged and infuriating! Can you please tell about this case? It would mean a lot 🤯
Peruvian here! I watched this show when it aired. It really seemed very weird to me when the show brought just a “regular” person for the show because they would normally have very famous guests over. However this special case was very shocking. If you guys ever watch the show you can see her body language, the way she speaks and holds herself she seems to have a good heart and be a very genuine person which keeps you hooked to watch the full show. Feminicide has been and still is a really bad problem in Peru. Besides Feminicide, Peru is a very VERY conservative country and still is: People will look down on you if you divorce your partner (it doesn’t matter if they hit you or if they cheated on you the woman will always look bad), people will judge you if you are not either catholic or Christian, if your kids don’t go to a good school or college, if you are poor, if you look like a “cholo”, if you opted to not be straight, if you don’t have a good job, racism and classism on top of that. This is very sad but the truth. I love my country but this is part of the dark side of this country. I also don’t live in Peru anymore, I love love my country and I am deeply sad because I am a woman and I am very vocal on what makes me uncomfortable and I know this is something that many men or just people over there won’t ever be able to handle over there.
Era el primer episodio del valor de la verdad por eso eligieron a una persona cotidiana al suceder el trágico suceso decidieron cambiar a solo poner personajes públicos en el programa.
People don't choose to be gay. They are made that way. God loves them just the same. Any soul could go into a gay body. We play every role that is available because that's how we learn to love ourselves and others. We have been every race, every role, every living thing.
The best parallel is that we, this audience, is no better. Had Rotten Mango cut the video short, halfway, before the major plot twists, you all would be an uproar on the cliffhanger. It's a call to the human condition of curiosity, sensationalism, and titillating scandals. You were hooked on this episode, wanting to know what happened next - and Rotten Mango fed it to you. No different than the reporters reporting it in real time, back then. The delivery is different, but the story/content is the same.
What makes no sense to me out of all this craziness is why did the murders dad beat up the victims mom? Was he charged for that or given any consequences cause what do you mean she was almost beaten to death over being rightfully upset and distraught about her daughter’s brutal murder?
When I was in college, our residence halls would do fundraisers by getting residents together to fill audience seats for tv show tapings that weren’t popular enough to fill them on their own. I hadn’t thought about that until you started your episode and described this show. I truly think my brain blocked it out because I don’t remember a single detail. I just remember feeling like I was not supposed to be in that room.
PLEASE stop chopping up the timeline so much!! It's confusing on top of the over the top dramatization, which I wouldn't mind as much if the storyline MADE SENSE and she wasn't completely over the top on parts of the stories she tells that are really disturbing because it just comes across as weird and callous. I do agree though that shows like these and SO MUCH in the entertainment industry are absolute GARBAGE. TLC is one of them that actually promotes predatory behavior towards children. They are reckless at a criminal level. 2024 is the year to EXPOSE ALLL of these industry MONSTERS.
I agree, this video was all over the place with the editing. I thought I accidentally skipped several times when she jumped from the gameshow to the flashforwards. I rewatched the last question several times because I thought she had done the time skip thing with all that rambling, but I think they actually edited out the last question, which makes the whole story make no sense.
The "thumbtack" method of beating a polygraph test is from a movie called "Oceans Twelve" where one of the main characters gets a job at a casino by passing a polygraph test by keeping a thumbtack in his shoe and stepping on it while answering questions.
hearing what the mother went through after her daughters death brought a tear to my eye, people can be so horribly cruel. My prayers go out to Ruth and her family
Love lostening to Rotten Mango podcast! You both are great commentators. However, this episode was VERY confusing. I had to back track the video to see if i missed stuff and fast forward to piece the information together. Sprry Steph! Contructive feedback. 🎉
Strangely I watched a UA-cam about the American version of this show just earlier today. A woman there trashed her marriage and her relationship with her parents… all for money. Which she then didn’t win. … but this story is next freaking level. I actually have goosebumps. I’m so sorry for the family and of course for Ruth herself. We all make stupid mistakes when we’re young - it’s what being young is all about. No-one deserves to die for theirs.
This is why i could never move to my parent's home country Ecuador, they have the same mindset. Full of gossip, misogynistic, no empathy, and just being behind the times in general.
My partner is 1st generation American from an Ecuadorian family, though from what I've seen of his family they're quite progressive. Maybe part of the reason they all left Ecuador when his grandpa was offered a teaching position here? Steve's mom & her sisters all followed him, got married & reproduced, & I'm glad to be almost part of their family. Might not feel the same if they were more conservative.
@@wendychavez5348in Ecuador I’d say it’s a bit more comparable to the states some areas/families are very conservative and some are. For example gay marriage is legal and Ecuador used to be one of the safest Latin American countries but in the last four years it’s become one of the unsafest. This change has definitely caused more conservative views to come back due to everyone being afraid of their safety, for example a lot of people blame immigrants of Colombia and Venezuela because of the migration of their cartels. In the last year one of the more progressive presidential candidates was murdered in public and the a few months ago the local news broadcast was taken hostage by gang members.
@@wendychavez5348it depends is you are in a family group or a friend group that is more into de acceptance is find. But you can also find the other side of the story
This is insane. The girl is a child... 18 years old is barely, BARELY a legal adult. Putting an easily manipulated child on TV in front of the country, knowing that she'll be mocked by all those people, is pure evil from the producers. Not mentioning that her "big secrets" is not even something that is frowned upon in most parts of the world. Had doubts about her relationship, is bi, works at a nightclub, lied to parents... By God, she's 18 years old. She explores the world and searches for her place in it. Everybody makes questionable choices at 18. That's how we learn about life. Everyone failed her.
@@ineselmoumni not all of them. Some of them make that decision to prostitute themselves, because "regular jobs" aren't good enough for them.....anyways I shame prostitution and I shame the people transitioning for that service too.
I remember being really excited by this show as a kid, but after the first episode my mother refused to watch it and didn’t want me watching it. To my kid mind, it was basically just truth or dare on national television. This was one of the few times though where my mother was absolutely right about something being so awful. I can’t fathom how this show got any willing contestants in the first place.
She really was the only participant that wasn’t famous, the other ones where tv or music personalities. I already look at it. There wasn’t other no famous participant
This reminds me of that talk show segment about like, secret admirers. This woman brought her two friends on (a gay man and straight man) bc the gay guy had a crush on the other guy, but the straight guy had no idea and got super embarrassed from the show and ended up murdering the gay guy.

Oh and Beto Ortiz is trash. You should investigate his own case involving children from an orphanage.
Damn that mess up. I hope her parents can sue the show.

This is very much like the murder of Scott Amedure, who went on the Jenny Jones talk show in 1995 and professed his love for a male acquaintance. The guy felt super humiliated (this was the 90’s, so a different mindset than there is now) and ended up murdering Scott Amedure when they both went home.
Jenny Jones ratings started decling, but she was still on the air until 2003!
The guy that murdered Scott has been free from prison in 2017.

The mindset wasn't different in the 90s. The two did have an affair and he was angry because he thought the guy outed him, but he didn't. He killed him for nothing.

You don’t have to be a sociopath to pass a polygraph test
@@joelle4226true, but it makes it easier!
That thumbtack in the shoe is as old as the polygraph.
with my social anxiety, the lie detector would tell me I gave the wrong name and age loool

Where did this happen? I want to read about it

Thank you for writing about Saltanat. This case is just so infuriating
Thank you. This case needs to be publicized more.
It actually legal, what is illegal is proxenetismo. So if you work by your own that already by if you work for someone that is prohibited
Nah most of us are not working in strip clubs secretly and then going on tv to admit they don’t like their bf and lied everything else to their parents
Ruth is just an idiot who will always stay an idiot
yeah, my thoughts exactly.
I'll judge her for doing this show this was just evil
my cousin passed a polygraph and he was guilty. he had stolen $ from where he worked. how did he pass? he was a contrarian who loved negative attention, so he was unaffected by being suspect. the measurables revealed his apathy, but not his guilt. no thumbtack was needed
Did he keep the money unpunished or did he get caught eventually
It's called a psychopath

I always end up with tears down my cheek when I listen to you tell their stories

Afterward, she said she went on the show in an attempt to gain "fame & fortune." 🙄
And after all that, she ended up leaving without a single dime. That's karma for you 😂 I hope her (now ex-) husband is doing much better these days.

Feminicide has been and still is a really bad problem in Peru.
Besides Feminicide, Peru is a very VERY conservative country and still is:
People will look down on you if you divorce your partner (it doesn’t matter if they hit you or if they cheated on you the woman will always look bad), people will judge you if you are not either catholic or Christian, if your kids don’t go to a good school or college, if you are poor, if you look like a “cholo”, if you opted to not be straight, if you don’t have a good job, racism and classism on top of that.
Can I see. Why, outdated mindset and beliefs. 🇪🇨 Like 🇵🇪
My partner is 1st generation American from an Ecuadorian family, though from what I've seen of his family they're quite progressive. Maybe part of the reason they all left Ecuador when his grandpa was offered a teaching position here? Steve's mom & her sisters all followed him, got married & reproduced, & I'm glad to be almost part of their family. Might not feel the same if they were more conservative.
@@wendychavez5348 I see.
Nah man having sex for money should never be normalized, especially in This situation...which was probably underage
@@megamegaO Shouldn't be normalized, yes, but shouldn't be shamed like that either.
@@ineselmoumni nah I don't normalize prostitution and the transaction of it either
@@megamegaO but you do agree that people who are caught in it are victims right ?
@@ineselmoumni not all of them. Some of them make that decision to prostitute themselves, because "regular jobs" aren't good enough for them.....anyways I shame prostitution and I shame the people transitioning for that service too.
That shirt looks really pretty on you! And this situation was so sad for that poor girl...she did not deserve this at all😢
Hi stephanie Im addicted to your channel, your storytelling are captivating and superb.
Can you cover Daegu subway fire please ☺️
omg I cried. She did what she knew she could, to help support her family. She was young and human.
This broke my heart 😢 you are a great story teller 🙏🏽
