I have a 2017 scatpack shaker and have experienced that a few times and didn’t know what was happening. I thought I was just missing 2nd gear. Thanks for posting this bit of info.
Your welcome. It never happens at a good time either. It’s kinda scary the first time it happens. It’s really a dumb thing. We get manuals to control what gear we are in. Haha
It only happened to me a couple a times in 2 years of used. I still did the skip shift eliminator because the 3 times it happened it was in the worst posible timing and put me in danger.
Me and a friend nearly got rear-ended by a semi because his trans am decided not to go from 1st to 2nd during hard acceleration on the on ramp the engine bogged and we actually slowed down.
Right!?!? Kinda weird right. I will more than likely buy the skip shift eliminator to prevent that from happening but I can work around it if I don’t want it to happen. Thanks man
I don't mind it because it basically doesn't affect you unless you're shifting wrong anyway. If you are winding it all the way out into higher RPMs at such a low throttle it's better to shift early and then use more throttle to accelerate the same. You get way more efficiency that way. Instead of using less throttle just use a higher gear. The skip shift system was the only way for them to pass emissions without having an ugly arrow up and down to tell you when to shift. During EPA testing they will actually do their best to shift when the car tells you to but this way they can eliminate that. Basically the car has so much torque that at 25% throttle in second gear you're getting roughly the same amount of torque as you're getting in fourth gear at 3/4 throttle so honestly if you find yourself getting locked out of second gear a lot it means you need to be shifting a lot earlier unless you're accelerating hard. It just means you're doing it wrong in the first place.
I have a 2018 Challenger R/T with the 6speed and have never experienced this. Even with the traffic here in Dallas and slowly accelerating like you explained. Now I'm going to have to test this on mine and see if it does it.
It’s a rare occurrence for sure. There are very specific things that need to happen. Like you have to be going 18-21 in first, 25% or less throttle and maybe one other thing. Not something that would happen frequently in most conditions. I am just driving to avoid it at the moment. Might get the eliminator.
I have had the car for 6 years and it has locked out and gone to 4th gear like four times. Not really an issue. But it really surprises me every time. I usually just let it slow slightly and then put it in second.
Thanks allot man. The exhaust is so Amazing!!!! I love it so much and like I was saying before I turn on sport mode instantly so I can hear it more. I love the Shaker moving too. Loving it.
That’s awesome man!! Congrats. You will love it…. I promise!!! I also got a bunch of other Shaker Videos in the catalog so check them out as well. Let me know if you have any questions at all.
I hate this feature with a passion, I always feel it when I can't get it in to the shift and before I knew what it was, I'd get real pissed about it too, getting a skip shift eliminator, idiotic to put this on a performance car, if I wanted to skip a gear, I'd just skip a gear, I can do that myself.
This happened to me last night for the first when getting on it. A female friend was with me and wanted to see the power. Pretty embarrassing. Put it in sport mode and it didn't happen again.
I have NEVER seen this before and I've owned and driven a ton of manual transmission vehicles. I heard about this randomly and needed to see how it worked so thanks for this vid! I have discovered that depending on how fast your getting on it you can go to 3rd. But if your getting on it hard your right about how it wants to go to 4th instead. I got the loan for my son for this car and neither of us knew about this. Ive since taken over the car and had to replace the clutch plate and im guessing that it was because he was trying to force it into 2nd gear.
I bet not. I am going to do it here soon I imagine. At least I have been testing it out so I k ow how to avoid it. If it happened without knowing it was gonna happen could be a bad thing.
Love your videos man! I recently read the user manual about this 1-4 skip shift, it seems like the manual 6-speed challenger doesn't need a skip shift eliminator to perform this. Very interesting.
When I heard about this I actually tried to make it happen and it did. But I had to try. I usually double clutch 1->2 (and 2->3) and it never happens then.
I have a 2010 Challenger R/T, and I have no idea where the choke is at. This is my first Dodge, and I'm having trouble getting it to start. I cleaned the throttle body, and I'm just doing some troubleshooting
Awesome Man!!! This is an amazing car and you would love it. Hope to get 1-2 videos out a week. I appreciate you following and the support. Let me k ow if you have any questions.
Hell and here I thought I was going crazy when trying to get into 2nd it been feeling rough as hell / sending me into neutral. My skip shift eliminator is on its way.
O/T , but does the Shaker have a way to drain water? My 79 Pontiac shaker had a hole with a rubber hose attached under it that drained water below engine
I own a 2020 Challenger Scat Pack manual. Does my year and model have a manual lockout? I only have 1700 miles, but I have never been locked out of 2nd gear.
If you are in sport mode it won’t happen. I drove in aport mode 95% of the time because I found it easier to drive with the better throttle response. Also it doesn’t happen frequently. Most guys I have talked to it has only happened a handful of time.
@@BurnseysRT Thanks for the info. I just changed from sport to street mode, 2 weeks ago. Still no skip shift. I bought the car last Thanksgiving, so I really have not driven it. My daily is a Ford truck, so I really have not driven the Challenger.
Great video. Good to know it’s normal. Any videos on downshifting? For example, I’m coming to a red light and I’m shifting from 4 to 3 but it won’t disengage from 4. Is that normal?
Oh I’m always in sport mode my car runs weird on non sport mode so no wonder I never have experienced this lol now how to permanently be in sport without having to push sport would be a good video
I realize this is not a Camaro video but my 2011 Camaro SS has the same transmission as the Challenger and it does the same thing I want to shift from 1st to 2nd and feels like there's a wall blocking me from shifting into second
I wonder if this is what I'm experiencing with my rt shaker that when I'm shifting from 1st to 2nd it won't go in and if I force it it'll grind. I would have to go to neutral then put it back to 2nd and it'll go in. Happens very random and I couldn't figure out why and what would be causing it to happen but this might be it
I love hearing my exhaust but I noticed that on the challenger it doesn’t wanna shift to second and it holds the rpm high and I was like what the hell is this car doing and then when I slowed down enough it let me go into 2nd gear easier. So I would need the eliminator to remedy this? I thought it was a rev match feature but the automatic felt way better and it’s a shame please help I’m looking to buy a scatpack wide body and I really want it in stickshift. My 80s Supra feels better
So is this normal ? Mine gets stuck sometimes on a gear like if I been driving on the same gear for a little bit it will lock and it takes a little bit to let it go
Fortunately you are not able to. Not sure the speed (probably less than 5 mph) but it won’t let you put it in reverse unless you are going under that speed.
That seems odd. The first times I shifted into 6th I put it in 4th. It’s a strange throw. It’s like back and right vs straight down. Or how it feels anyway.
It is like that but I found out it how to feel for that and became easy oh and the skip shift just let ya rpms drop it’s actually pretty smooth once you find out the timing for it
Why aren't you explaining to us that a "Skip Shift Eliminator" can be had for about $12 and is a simple "plug and play" under the tranny? Or that it exists due to CAFE standards going back to the 1990's and not something the manufacturers actually want, either. Also would be nice to see a back seat view of your speed / rpm's along with shifting. (less of a close up) Sorry if you've already done an updated video.
Thanks for watching. I did kinda do a follow up video with the skip shift eliminator to show that it’s out there. Limited tech prevented me from doing much more but I can see how that might be beneficial to see Rpm’s speed etc.
@@BurnseysRT , thanks for being cool about my crabby comment! I'm buying a 2006 CTS-V and having it shipped from FL to WI. No idea if it still has the lock out, but an Eliminator is the first thing I'm getting if it does. Haven't had a Manual since my old Ranger pickup (sold in 2008). I only learned about "skip shift" recently and going by the comments it seems the dealers aren't telling buyers about it. Nice that it's so easy to correct, though. I still have kids or would prolly be getting a Manual Challenger or Mustang. Shame how the sticks are dying out.
skip shift is stupid. if i think i should shift from 1st to 4th, i will. i dont need chevy and dodge to force the car to skip shift because they think i should do it
Will the Hurst billet short throw eliminate the COGS second gear lockout or is it controlled by the transmission? This is the only thing I hate about the SRT8.
Oh man tell my about it. It’s annoying. Unfortunately the shifter won’t resolve the issue. It’s an electronic thing. I would get yourself the skip shift eliminator. It’s about $20 and is plug and play. It eliminates the skip shift.
@@BurnseysRT it was because the EPA drivers rev so high. You can get way better than the EPA numbers If you just short shift a little bit and it's just forcing drivers to drive properly. Personally I feel like it only happens when you are revving higher than you should before shifting anyway but it should be my choice to drive in correctly
After thinking about it a bit I actually think that it doesn't make sense, I realize I've just been driving it wrong. Every time it's locking me out it's because I'm actually doing something wrong, I'm either in way too low of a gear or not accelerating hard. To accelerate the same amount you should just use a higher gear but more throttle to compensate and you'll use a lot less fuel to accelerate the same amount
this feature is the most annoying thing ive ever encountered in a car, i recently purchased a 2015 scat pack shaker and ive been locked out of 2nd gear so many times thinking something in the vehicle is broken when in all reality its this absolutely useless feature, i bought this car to drive around, not to save gas lmfao 😂
Burnseys RT they had a TSB on the driveshaft so I assumed that might be contributing. Didn’t realize it had this skip shift feature....guess I’ll be deleting it when the warranty runs out.
DUBMANS I’ll have to give that a try. Thanks. When not in sports mode which eliminates that for me.... I have been doing allot more 1 to 3 shifting which has been working out better.
I’ve had my skip shift engage when I was trying to test a 0-60. What sucks is I was in sport, already hovering around 5000 rpms, and when I went to slam into second, it got engaged and I hit into fourth. Not necessarily what you want to happen, especially when you have your foot in the firewall. Definitely deleting that shit.
Are you kidding me. WTH is that all about. Yeah I can’t have that happen. I’ll be getting the eliminator for sure. Fortunately it’s super cheap. Sorry that happened man. Total Crap.
I think this is disabled in sport or track mode. I only drive mine in track. One day i went to leave my house and it threw me in 4th. What the fuck!! And its only 25mph in my neighborhood. So 4th is totally unnecessary. I realized I was in street mode for the 1st time. This feature is dumb IMO. If you want to shift from 1st to 4th you can at any time. Theres no reason to be forced to do so.
I agree. T he first tine for me I had the same reaction. Was like wtf. From that day forward the first thing I do is put it in sport mode to eliminate that. There is no reason to have this. We all got a manual to chose what gears
@@BurnseysRT I saw your other video you made after leaving my comment. So it really is disabled in those other modes. I was always under that assumption but didn't know for sure. Good to know
My 2010 SRT8 does it all the time, and it's not based off of power being applied. There's been times I'm trying to get on it due to traffic coming up quick.....then the skip shift kicks in and I want to just drive off a cliff with this stupid transmission. Thanks engineer for putting me and my passengers at risk. What jackass thought "hey this is a great idea for a MUSCLE CAR". In the 30 years of driving a manual did I ever say to myself..."man I'm tired of shifting between 1st and 4th, wish there was a way to do this without thinking about it"
It baffles me that some owners have never experienced this. I have a 2012 Challenger RT and this is almost a daily occurrence for me. I have no proof of this but I think it gets worse as you put more miles on your car. I’ve had my car for going on 7 years and have put over 200k miles on it. It happens so often in fact that I never even use first gear anymore unless I absolutely have to. It also used to correct itself after a little bit of driving but now it stays activated until I turn the car off for about 10 minutes.
3/31/23 this is the same that’s happening to me, just hit 91k and I thought something was wrong with the transmission. I think your right about mileage 👍
Did yours happen to grind at one point? When I wind mine out like that it doesnt shift to 4th, it grinds a bit like it doesnt want to go into second. The car came with a hurst short shift as well. Wondering if that has anything to do with it
Mine never grinded ever but I never tried to force it in second. Fortunately before I bought it I red up and the skip shift and just let it happen when it did. Not sure in your case but I would look under neither by the tranny I believe and see if there is a skip shift eliminator on yours if not I would maybe look into getting one. Only around $15-$20 or so. I probably will at some point but it doesn’t happen frequently at all so no rush yet.
Weird right! The great news is that the skip shift eliminator is only $18-$20 and it’s a 5-10 minute project. You just replace a cord underneath the car and you are golden. Here is a link to the speed logic one. www.speedlogixstore.com/product-p/izm993.htm
They did it to be able to use a computer to judge the fuel economy when it engages which is almost never. But it is a safety issue because it surprises you ever damn time. Stupid feature.
I think it’s a pretty Pretty awesome it does that...First Modification change the shift handle Just suggesting.Guess I’m gonna have to make a video for UA-cam with my shaker haven’t did one in a while myself🤔 Looking forward to seeing what you do with the beast😎👍
You won’t think that when you drive it tho lol almost wrecked several times because of it, no warning or anything so if your just cruising and you pull into traffic and slowly accelerate it’ll skip over it, with a hurst shifter it doesn’t just roll in to fourth you just hit a wall and then you have to shift again
Not true unfortunately. The gate locks out 2nd gear entirely. Physically cannot put it in 2nd. The gate routs that 1st to what should be 2nd gear directly to 4th. There are plenty of comments to support this. Thanks for watching !! Appreciate it.
"the shaker is a rare beast" lol yeah sooo rare. There is NOTHING "rare" about anything Stellaris. It's a foreign car and now they stick the one motor in EVERYTHING. So it's anything but rare. But hey nice import!

Shame how the sticks are dying out.
skip shift is stupid. if i think i should shift from 1st to 4th, i will. i dont need chevy and dodge to force the car to skip shift because they think i should do it
Couldn’t not agree more. It’s dumb. I got a manual for a reason. Haha
No it’s controlled by the transmission, anyone who’s looking into a hurst for a challenger will love it but it doesn’t do anything for the skip shift
I don't really like the lockout because you may as well just manually go from first to third or first to fourth
I was never a fan. When it happens it’s alarming and not safe IMO. Plus what you said. Just got to third or 4th manually if you want vs being forced.
Yes it’s terrible annoying for sure. Seems like a silly thing for a manual transmission. We didn’t buy a manual to have gears locked out. Weird thing
Mine is doing it under hard accel sometimes....really pisses me off.
Yeah it really does piss me off too. Going to try and get a video out to address this problem this weekend.
Burnseys RT they had a TSB on the driveshaft so I assumed that might be contributing. Didn’t realize it had this skip shift feature....guess I’ll be deleting it when the warranty runs out.
For now if you have sport mode turn it on. It disables the skip shift.
My dads 99 vette does that 1to 4, he just moves the shifter to the right and puts it in 2nd
Total Crap.
Doesn't Sport mode disable that?
Yes it does.
Over 200k miles in ten years, do you live in it?
👍#8! Keep them coming!
I've driven many manuals and I've had one did that stupid shat. I'm getting a R/T how much is the skip shift eleminator also what's the labor cost
Weird right! The great news is that the skip shift eliminator is only $18-$20 and it’s a 5-10 minute project. You just replace a cord underneath the car and you are golden. Here is a link to the speed logic one.

Thanks for the link! I just bought one on sale for $10 and free shipping!
Fantastic! You got it man. Now you can drive how you want. Thanks for the support.
good demonstration 👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you sir. I appreciate it. Thanks for the support
Someone sitting behind a desk and drives a Mercedes though of adding Skip Shift
Yeah probably. Haha. Thank goodness for the eliminator or sport move to turn it off. I didn’t buy a 6M to be told how to shift.
Thanks man. I am looking forward to seeing what I do too. Yeah man show off that shaker 😉.
Thanks. This is good to know!
You got it. Glad you got something from the video.
Can shit to any hear at any time. No lock out. Just shift down to middle slot.
Camaro has the same issue
Yeah man. It’s so odd that they would put that on a manual.
That’s the worst feature known to man. Why even get a manual if you can’t choose what gear you want. That’s the whole point of
I didn't even know this was a thing! Maybe cause I only drive this toy in track mode 😂
Haha yeah. That’s the Key! Drive it in regular mode and it can happen. Not very often but when it happens you’ll know. Haha
What your calling lock out is just a missed shift
Not true unfortunately. The gate locks out 2nd gear entirely. Physically cannot put it in 2nd. The gate routs that 1st to what should be 2nd gear directly to 4th. There are plenty of comments to support this. Thanks for watching !! Appreciate it.
It’s also written up as such in the owners manual.
I hate that happened to me 3 times 2 times It made me grind the gear 😭
Yeah I hate that too. It’s so annoying. That’s not why I bought a manual. Haha.
I’m excited for you. Now mod the hell out of it lol
Thanks man. It should be a blast and can’t wait to get it started.
"the shaker is a rare beast" lol yeah sooo rare. There is NOTHING "rare" about anything Stellaris. It's a foreign car and now they stick the one motor in EVERYTHING. So it's anything but rare. But hey nice import!
No, in actuality, the Shaker-equipped Challengers ARE indeed rare when compared to all
of the other incarnations. Pay attention. You might learn something.
@@reddsshaker3477 so how rare is the Stellaris challenger? Is it the most rare foreign car?
redline 1st put it in 6th gear....economical
Yeah you almost could.
let's
Its shouldn't happen bottom line.
I could not agree more.
