  • Today I want to talk about whether you should buy the skip shift eliminator for your 6 Speed Manual Challenger. Is there a way to disable the skip shift feature?

    With my two manual Challengers I owned, that was a mod that would rarely come onto play as I never put myself in that algorithm for it to kick in. Nice peace of mind when you're not in sport mode that it will not put you in a poor situation to need to accelerate being forced into 4th.

    This is one of the main reasons why the Taser & Bypass Module was the first mod that I did on my 2023 Challenger R/T 6 Blacktop edition 6 speed because it allows you to set sport mode to come on automatically every time you start the car, so for just that alone it was worth getting the Taser for me and the added security of setting pin start along with all of the other stuff it let's you do (like light show, adding performance pages to evic, changing the startup splash screen, and so on) was all just a bonus on top of it. So if you have a manual Challenger and prefer having it in sport mode all the time you should consider getting the Tazer if you can because it's more than worth it imho, because for me it paid for itself the first time I started my Challenger after installing and setting it up when I saw that green flag come up on the dash by itself without having to touch a thing.

    Ok I can say I’ve been locked out of second cause I was casually driving and it is alarming and scary when it would happen. I added the skip shift for good measure. When I drive my car I put it in sport mode and fully turn traction off by holding the button down for 10+ seconds till the dash chimes every time I drive rain or shine. Another thing I use combined with sport mode and no traction on is the pedal commander. I know you can make it super aggressive but I simply use it at a specific setting to eliminate throttle lag, that’s it. Basically making the whole system work together in my own preference. While if I have it in regular (no sport and regular traction on) I can feel a huge difference in throttle. I have a manual just like you

    • @BurnseysRT
      @BurnseysRT  5 років тому

      I will have to try the full traction off. I have pressed and held it but maybe just not long enough. The difference in throttle response between normal and sport is so huge. I can’t stand driving in normal mode. That’s really cool about the pedal commander. I feel like sometimes that between 4000-5800 rpms the systems are holding back my performance. It’s probably traction control etc. maybe I should look into that other stuff and see if that helps.

    • @BurnseysRT
      @BurnseysRT  2 роки тому

      I have always had that type of wear on my chargers and challengers. It’s important to rotate the tires. But look at any rear wheel drive car you will find that the tires stick out more on the outside of your car on the bottom / and lean inside towards the top. It’s all about handling and traction. I believe that’s typical.

    The skip shift comes into play *if...* Your driving habits cause it to activate regularly and you don't want to adjust your driving habits accordingly so it doesn't come into play.
    You have two choices *other* than switching to sport mode every time you get in the car and, it changes the throttle response, etc. and uses more fuel.
    Either adjust the way you drive, shiftpoints/speed or, putin a skip shift eliminator and be able to go 1st to 4th only when*you* choose, regardless of your regular driving habits. This should be the actual content ofthis video for the purposes he made it. But a good discussion to have.
    What isn't discussed is thst while you're down there putting in the device, drain the current transmission fluid which, even though "Mooar recommended," is a good part of the "notchiness" while shifting that people frequently lament. After cleaning up your mess, refill to just overflowing with *Royal Purple MAX ATF fully synthetic fluid (your 6spd Tremec uses automatic trans fluid) as this fluid is a direct replacement for Chrysler ATF+4 fluid. It will blend with the factory fluid as a top off but best performance is with full replacement. You will notice a *marked difference* in the way your transmission behaves because RP MAX ATF is a synthetic, very fibrous product which treats the synchronizers just the way they like. You can order the fluid from Amazon in a 6pack, much cheaper than by the quart though you'll only use 4 at a time. The only other thing that will improve your transmission performance beyond that is replacement of the factory shifter with an aftermarket by Barton, Hurst, B&M, etc.. (The Barton is the choice today, it would seem).
    Happy shifting!! 😊

    Okay... So color me an idiot. I've owned my 2015 Scat Pack 6-speed manual for about 2 years now and have never ran into that issue. I have more issues missing 6th gear (during some spirited driving) than being locked out of 2nd. I don't get any indicator to shift from 1st to 4th gear in my car. Is this something thats baked into the coding of the ECU? For reference my standard shift pattern for daily driving is: 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th. I rarely use 2nd & 5th gear barring some mild congestion, city traffic, passing or spirited driving. I actually got this tip for RCR (Regular Car Reviews) when they did a giveaway for a Dodge Challenger R/T with the 6-speed. This change in shift pattern may solve your issue as I found the scat packs gearing for 2nd & 3rd along with 5th & 6th gear to be too similar. But this is my 2 cents.

    • @BurnseysRT
      @BurnseysRT  Рік тому

      Hey. It’s baked into the ECU / TCM but with your shifting pattern of 1st to 3rd you’d never notice it. Not ever. After a while I felt the same as you and went from 1st to third pretty regularly. I saw someone drive like that on a UA-cam video and was like why the hell didn’t I ever think of that. The car has plenty of torque. But I would bet if you gradually wound out 1st similar to how you would if you wanted to go into 3rd and tried putting it into 2nd instead it would lock you out every now and then. It’s really kind of stupid but whatever. Thanks for your input and suggestion. I am sure it will help someone.
