5:15 I may have misspoke about the origins of Marie’s Watercolor. It looks to me like all three iterations, the Marie’s Masters I reviewed in this video, the Marie’s Artist Watercolor, and the Marie’s Chinese Painting Sets are indeed all manufactured in China. Their country of origin is not a factor in and of itself, however, the professional Western watercolors with which I am more familiar are made under more rigorous standards. For my money, I wasn’t too wowed by these.

Despite what these paints put you through, with initial confusion over pigments to simply the way they felt and performed, you absolutely still managed to produce a lovely roses painting. As for your lettering, it is so much better than my own, that I love that too! It does indeed seem that these are indeed student grade, but not even a good quality student grade such as Van Gogh for example. Everything that frustrated you was very clear to see within the landscape painting - wonderful photo Kathy!! As for the card - I have no idea how to spell that character’s name - I just went blank, but you can fill in that blank. It was very obvious that some colours simply did not play well. I could hear a form of relief in your voice when you checked the dry card for chalkiness, and the paint rubbed off. It is clearly not you, but the poor quality paints. This isn’t a brand I am familiar with, is that simply because I live in Scotland? I have not encountered the other form of Marie’s either. But likely, it will be lurking within Amazon UK somewhere. Not that I shall be buying, but I am interested in the price for the set you received. 👩🏻🎨🖌️🎨🤷♀️❤️❤️

I think those are the same that Jerry sells. Looks just like the ones the frugal crafter tested, maybe they just change their formula some companies does that.

Hi Dramaticona-yes, you’re right, Jerry’s Artarama has these Masters Quality as well as the Chinese Watercolor sets, the artists watercolor and the gouache.
Im now wondering if I somehow got a “bad” set. I’ve since used these on different 100% cotton paper and they still rubbed off when dry and lacked luminosity.
I’m sorry you were struggling, too. Maybe we can blame it on the cycle of the moon or Mercury in retrograde or something…😂🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
As I recall, Lindsay really liked the Marie’s Masters Watercolor. I purchased the same variety she worked with, but I was unfortunately not impressed. This is why I think I may have gotten either a bad batch or mislabeled tubes. Who knows?

Try them them on ripe or half-ripe Xuan paper. I have a feeling that these were made for use on rice paper.
