The Baohong comes in a 27 cm x 10 meter rolls making it even cheaper. The roll includes a pair of white cotton gloves to protect the paper from the oils on your hands.
Oh I love that. Thank you so much for the info. I'll keep that in mind the next time I purchase paper!
It was my pleasure. I bought it from Ali express.
I never got a pair of gloves with my roll. :(
I love the Baohong paper. It is absolutely the best paper I have used.
Pretty sure that when Meeden first came out with the paper, it had 'Baohong Academy' in little tiny writing on the cover. With Meeden being a popular price art supply company, it only makes sense that they would go after a paper supplier, in order to complete their product line. FWIW - FYI - In a couple other comparison videos I've seen, the artists concluded the same way as you have, that the Artist grade was a hint better than the Academy. Thanks for doing this!
Ah, I bet you're right! And good to know that other artists have had the same opinion. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Not only that, but I can't find the academy from any supplier in Australia except people like Amazon and they are charging the same or more than I can get artist grade for.
@@warpedweft9004 Uh, sorry to hear that.
@@bealaart why? Bao Hong professional grade is still cheaper than other artist grade paper.
@@warpedweft9004 Oh, I misunderstood what you were saying.🥴
Baohong is my absolute favorite paper. I just wish I had a good way to trim the glue off the blocks. Paint gets on it and transfers to the next painting when it gets wet. And no, I don't want to tape the edges. It's the whole reason I use a block. I use an exacto knife now, but on occasion I nick the paper or glue too much. One day there will be an answer! 🤣 Thanks for this video, I reallly loved the tests you did, and your paintings are lovely! Glad I found your channel. 🌻
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you found my channel, too! The only thing I have found that works is an exacto knife. Nothing else will cut through it cleanly. I hold the knife at about a 45 degree angle to the edge for best results. It seems to work well as long as I go slowly. I usually clean the edge every other page so the knife will have a little more to grab onto.
@@bealaart Thank you for taking the time to tell me that.
@@polgara28 Of course! My pleasure. Thank you for your comments!!
Thanks for the info. Very informative. I liked the paintings too! Esp the last one on the Meeden. Charming!
You're so welcome. Glad it was helpful.
I absolutely love my Baohong Artist grade paper, but I do find I need to use more water due to the texture. Excellent review, I especially appreciate the cost per square inch comparison.
Glad this one was helpful! I felt silly comparing per square inch 🤣, but it seemed most accurate. Love that you appreciated my geekiness! 🤍
This was a great video, thank you! It would have been all the greater had there been more footage of you working on the actual papers while doing the demonstrations. We beginners are so thirsty for any and all chances we can get at watching amazing artists as yourself put paint to paper 🤗😍💕
Thanks for the input and thanks for watching! I’ll keep that in mind on my next product review.
Just bought a 10 sheet roll of Baohong 300gsm cold press paper for $35. 40 quarter sheets for 35, and the quality is nice. Not quite Arches, but for studies, it's great! I cut it down with my Rotatrim.
Excellent! May I ask where you found it?
@@bealaart Amazon
@@bealaart Amazon - looks like they've reduced the size of the roll. The one I bought was 540mm x 720mm...
@@cptcosmo Thx!
I’ve used baohong and have been quite happy with it. I’d like to try the Meeden; but, have a full stock of paper.
One thing that I noticed and is worth mentioning about the tool that comes with it… It protects your paper from accidental nicks, tears, etc. I used to use a palette knife; but, have damaged the paper that way. With their tool, I haven’t had any problems at all.
I agree the tool is much better than a palette knife, but I have damaged my paper even with the tool by letting the glue edge build up from the previous pages. As long as I keep that trimmed and go slowly, I don't have a problem. Side note: Legions paper seems to me to be very difficult to get off the block without tearing no matter what tool I use. Just curious, if you've used Legions, have you noticed that, too?
@@bealaart I don't remember if I've used Legions for watercolor. Their Stonehenge is my favorite colored pencil paper; but, not sure if I tried their wc paper. All I have in my current stash is Arches and Baohong.
@@bealaart How do you trim the block glue? I've been plagued with this problem for ages! I use an exacto knife now, but on occasion I nick the paper or glue too much. Thanks! 🌻

I use Meeden paper and love it. But I am not a professional artist. I also was super excited about the little Meeden paper separating tool!
I've wanted one those tools for the longest time! I just didn't know where people were getting them. I would have tried the paper a long time ago if I had known. 😆 So smart of Meeden to throw those in for free! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I believe Baohong has always been made by Meeden but are now "rebranding" to consolidate under the Meeden name
Good to know. Thanks so much for the info and thanks for watching and commenting!😃
For my country I cant find it cheap, and ordering is comperable with Fabriano or even hahnemuhle for the artist Baohong
Good to know! Thanks. What country?
@@bealaart Greece, in Block form they are comperable to Fabriano (in Greek store), the sheet form is more expensive by squre cm/inch to Fabriano artistico.
@@DarkModulator Ah, Greece!!! I've always wanted to go to Greece. My husband spent a summer there years ago. He has very fond memories. Sorry you can't get the Baohong for a better price.
I would prefer the Bahoung Artist's too. But I hate when any company makes the paper size (8×10) a little too small (7×10) to fit into a standard 8x10 frame. Same with other standard sizes. I think many companies do that so you have to buy a bigger size then it down to fit, wasting some paper.
I agree. 8X10 would be better for framing purposes.
Sometimes Median looks exactly the same, so I am sure they are related, if no the same company
Yes, I think everyone agrees. They are related somehow. Regardless, I really the paper. 😁
Did anyone find that the Bao Hong (student grade) doesn’t lift well but much better than cellulose & better price than Arches. Ty.
I have not noticed that. 🤔
Yes, they're branches of the same.
For refrence MEEDEN and BOAHONG are the same company orat least they r partnered because last week i bought a huge painting kit from them (meeden) and more than half the products had both company names on the products.
