    Really good stuff as always guys. 5 more tips...(1) anything under 10 ft is a gimme (2) 18 mulligans (3) only count the shots you like (4) never count lost balls (5) plant your butt in the cart for the rest of the day at 99 regardless of the hole. These tips always keep me under 100. Looking forward to more videos this summer. Thanks.

    My tip: Unless you are good with your fairway wood or hybrids, use an iron that you feel most comfortable with for a second shot on par 5. I used to almost always use either a 6 or 7 iron on my second shot. At least with that, the ball will not go into ob or hazard

    I am a golf course superintendent and a high school golf coach. This video is a gem. First the teaching content is very good. My favorite part though is the greens keeper turning on the sprinkler in the background at the beginning. First, awesome photo bomb! They even get him close up. He’s driving a utility vehicle with a spreader (probably for top dressing) and parks right next to the head. He’s likely hitting hot (dry) spots in the heat of the day. I love how he tries to avoid being nailed by the stream but gives his vehicle a good bath...I’ve been there...classic! Love his dedication! Beautiful golf course!

    I watched all 3 videos. (Breaking 100, 90, and 80). I played a difficult 18 hold course with a strategy. The best 18 I've ever played before this was a 108. I just shot 87 at this difficult course. Couldn't be happier.

    Great tips. My goal this year was to break 100, i usualy shoot 108 to 115's. I broke 100 two weeks ago and have broke 100 every since, came close to breaking 90 this weekend but lost it on one hole and tanked it with an 11 on a par 4. Imagining my shot trajectory and spot to land the ball while standing behind my ball than approach ball and do it has made the most improvement.

      Been there in a tournament and it's the worst. Make sure you make the smart play and keep your second shot in play, somewhere around the 150 marker. That gives you a chance to hit the green and a chance at a par putt.

My average scores were all about 120-128 :-( and my best ever being 112.... until yesterday !!! On a par 69 i managed a lovely 94 :-) Two pars and on the 18th i managed my second ever birdie !!! Thanks for all you tips - they really are helping

    Great video - as I am close to breaking the 100 mark. Drives typically fade right 10 -20 yards (need to practice the "toe in the bush" tip of your driving video) - have found that I do line up to the left knowing the ball will go left then right. Need to line up on the left side of the tee box though. Even convinced my son to do the 7iron chip shot around the green, he was amazed at how much easier it was to chip and run the shots. One thing I do now when putting is to think of the putter as a metronome - i.e. keep the swing at a steady pace and not accelerate. Certainly agree with the last point - do not add up the front nine - it will play with your head on the back nine!

    My handicap started at 40 (was not serious haha) and I got it down to a 16 in 2-3 years but I did not practice that much over the first year. I did not go out everyday and I did not go to the putting green/chipping every time i went either. This year I’m going to actually start doing it and try to get it as law as I can. Right now I am trying to go to the driving range and hit 100 balls everyday. Remaining a good tempo, trying to focus, and looking at my swing. It’s harder in Pittsburgh because the weather changes a lot but it’s a beautiful city. Also, school has to get in the way 😂. Playing golf today and going to practice my chipping a little but. Greens are slow because it not even in golf season yet but not too bad. Can’t wait to see what I can do this year! So far so good

    Another great video guys! I've watched it twice now. I've broken 100 three out of four times in my last four rounds (the over 100 was a 101). Another amateur recommended using my 9 iron to chip. I've shaved strokes taking his advice and in fact have sunk several chips using my 9 iron. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks I will try them Next week. But I will replay the morning I go Out. Especially #1. Our First hole has long water on the right and I usually wind up losing my ball on first drive because i slice the ball when I start. This should save me a penalty stroke and a ball also. And also the Close to the green shot I like the tip on using the zone instead od the flag as a focus point. Thirdly I will not start totaling my score while playing and see how that goes. Thanks for all the great tips

    I started playing golf about 2 months ago and found your last tip to be really helpful....don’t add up your score! In fact, I sometimes play rounds without keeping score at all. I work on hitting my irons correctly, coarse management and selecting the correct club. So, for the past two weeks, I decided to keep score and was pleasantly surprised to find my scores down in the 90-94 range.i even shot a 40 on the first nine holes once.......I have conveniently forgotten my back nine! I have shared your video to all my beginning golfing friends. As Ben Hogan once said, “The only golf shot I worry about is the next shot.”

    Nice tips, even for the bogey player. I especially agree with points 2 (hold your finish for 5 seconds) and 3 (easier to chip with an iron).
    With respect to the chip shot, I would find a go to iron and practice distance (landing area, roll) versus using 7 or 9 or 8 irons. All of them can work, but dial in and you will find consistency. I have done so with the 9 iron around the green (except over traps in front of the green). Question...what is the advantage of the 7 versus the 9 for chipping 10-40 feet?

  • @okroses

    Another great video as always. I just did my first 18 holes yesterday after only ever playing on a 9 hole par 3 course. I shot a 109, and I had some shots that even impressed myself that day. But I always messed up when faced with a specific shot. All the greens are elevated from the fair way and I found myself standing on an uphill slope trying to chip/pitch it from only 5 to 10 yards off the green. I would either not get ahold of the ball or send it spring over the green to the other side. Can you do a tip on maybe stance and swing when standing on a uphill shot? It would lower my score enough to break 100 for sure!

    To break 100 you must golf in the 40's atleast once. This year was my first year really golfing, and i was always trying to break the 40's. I've read and watched about so many tips to improve my irons and my driver. One day we went out and i golfed a casual 53 on the front nine of my local course. Then i started of the back 9 with an 8 on a par four. After that it clicked and I managed 4 pars(3 in a row) and i golfed a 45. Then we went another 18 and i golfed a 51 and a 47. Focus on getting low scores on individual holes. Im okay with getting bogeys as long as im consistent. Pars arent as hard to come by anymore. My tip is to focus on saving 5 strokes per 18 by not duffing a ball or hitting a lost ball so you can golf in the 40's

  • @mrtopramen
    @mrtopramen 7 років тому +2

    Good advice, but my advice for breaking 100 would be consistent good contact(so the ball goes in the air) and keep the ball in bounds. When I first began playing, I could hit the ball very well, but had trouble keeping it in bounds. I didn't know distances of clubs and of course would hit a big slice every so often. My brother, who could barely get a clean shot in an entire round of 18 would shoot as well or sometimes lower than me simply because he kept the ball in bounds. This was frustrating since his swing looked like he was chopping down a tree with an axe 😂 Now combine good strikes and keeping the ball in bounds and you have yourself a 100 breaking game.

  • @duboisboris8964

    Another question. You mentioned the struggle to get the driver consistent for beginner golfers. So typically, I spend a fair amount of time hitting practise shots on the driving range with my driver. When I do get back to my irons afterwards, i have difficulties finding my "iron-swing", which is fairly consistent in normal days. Do you have advice on swapping between driver and irons, and gaining consistency?

    • @jeremygaiser4407
      @jeremygaiser4407 6 років тому

      when your on the course, take a few extra back swings. When i play driver I will take 3-4 "swings" with the iron before i address the ball on the next shot. if I've played an Iron off the tee I take 1 or 2. Your driver swing should not be that far from your iron swing. ultimately it would take a PGA pro to give you guidance based on what he sees in your swing. Take some lessons, you will not regret spending the money.

    This may have been one of the most helpful videos I've seen about fairway woods so far. I have been going nuts being bound and determined trying to hit a 15 degree 3 wood of the deck and I'm playing to a 14 handicap. Watching Andy swing an easy 16.5 lofted 3 wood 271 made me realize "Why bother?". I'm going to look for something that fits me well and stop worrying about it and just freaking play. Thanks.

    Great tips. 3 putting is a big downfall for me so it was great to hear from you guys on putting. Im only playing 4 months but my goal is to break 100 in the next couple of months. I usually hit 109-112. Keep the videos coming lads. Love watching them.

    great tips guys. all are good but I totally agree with the 7 iron around the green. When I try the PW, sometimes it's great. sometimes awful.

    Although my goal at the moment is to break 85, this video was beyond helpful nonetheless. I will make sure to use 3 of those tips. The adding up scores, chipping, and putting. I'm always keeping track of score, indecisive about my chips, and accelerating through my putts.
    Currently 15 years old with a 16.3 handicap. I have recently changed a lot in my game. Made my swing path less steep and changed to an interlock grip rather than baseball. Still adjusting so it's been tough. Very thankful for these tips

    Love the video, but as someone who when I play bad shoots over 100 and when I play good/decent shoots low 90s, my score is almost entirely dependent on how well I drive the ball. Meaning if I drive well I can hit take 1 or 2 more shots and 1 or 2 puts to get a 4 or 5.

    Started playing about 3 months ago, first few games I got more or less 105, after practicing my driver on the driving range over the weekend, which helped my iron shots as well, I ended up playing an 87 today.

    As a beginner golfer I have no clue how to hit a shot from a bunker. So what are some simple tips to help me improve my game out of a bunker? As a newer golfer I'm in there a lot lol. Thanks for all your videos!

    • @fsufan82
      @fsufan82 7 років тому

      Garth Kassner I'm a beginner too, so I'm sure someone can give a little better advice, but the general idea is to actually hit about 2 or 3 inches behind the ball when you're in the bunker. Also you have to make sure you follow through or it won't have enough momentum to fly out. You have to swing a lot harder than you probably think you should, but it's because you're hitting the sand first.

    Thanks for your videos. Question, if (and when) I hit in the trees, instead of it taking 3 shots to hack it out, what is a good way to handle that. I have chipped it backwards to get out too. What are the rules for that? Thank you.

    tried out today, almost broke 100 until the last 3 holes. Made mistake start counting the scores, immediately got really stress out and lost the cool. Using 7 iron to bump & run is great way to get closer to the pin.

  • @geromejohnnygranada

    I’m a 5 handicap for 9 holes, and something that I’ve told my friend to help him is to keep his head down through impact.
    A lot of the time he has the tendency to top the ball and send it rolling 20 feet. Usually this comes from being too eager to see where your ball is going and lifting your head early before you’ve hit the ball. When I was first learning golf I did that a lot too. But when you do that as you lift your head, you lift your shoulders, then your arms, then your hands, And ultimately the club itself.
    So even if you set up correctly before the shot, when you go to hit the ball and you lift your head mid-swing the club itself is already half a balls distance above where you first addressed it. And you’ll top it 90% of the time.
    So in order to correct this mistake coming from being too eager you have to train your body to restrain itself and keep your head down and try to stare at the ball as your club hits it.
    One practice drill I was taught to help correct this was to take a wedge or low iron at the range and to hit easy shots but as I hit them to not look up at all. After doing this for awhile your body will slowly stop wanting to “peek” up and your rotation should become more fluid.
