      Just shot a 101 and this is my second year golfing ever. I'm understanding the mechanics of this game more so than most. Number one problem I'm working on now is I have a tendency to hit the ground before the ball with my irons because I'm leaning back in my back swing for some reason im having trouble keeping straight and leaning forward in my follow through.

      Long time fan of your channel. My brother (age 35) has been taking golf seriously for the last year now. He has always been a naturally good golfer but has improved significantly just from playing regularly. However he is really struggling to break 80. He's had a few occasions where he needed to birdie the 18th hole, only to par it. Long shot but do you guys still do lessons in person or is it all through your online programme? Im sure he'd be willing to drive up to you guys.

      Same- I get overly offset when there's a slow group in front of me, or a group behind me hitting into me when I'm waiting for a group in front of me- end up whiffing my 3 wood :D

    this is great information guys!!! I have an example of not letting my emotions ruin my round. After a good front nine 39, I was excited about the prospect of breaking 80, my tee shot on 10 was pulled into a hazard. One the way to the ball, I started to have that feeling of "here we go.. starting to self destruct.". But, I quickly said to my self: That shot is in the past, this is a par 5, see if you can still squeak out a par. Lo and behold, I hit a sensible iron over the water to about 160. Then on the approach, to about 15 feet behind the stick. Focused hard, and sunk it! Totally accredited to the positive frame of mind and having the sense to quell the negative thoughts!

      100% agree with this.
      A few of my friends are just starting to get into golf and this is something I've tried to explain to them, no good following a bad shot with another because you've lost your head, it's not always easy but it's key if your going to have a decent round.

    Your videos are extremely helpful! Your chipping video around the green brought my score down from the low 90's to the mid 80's. Lowest score to date is an 84. Need some help to get down to 79. I'll keep watching your videos, as they are a great teaching tool as long as a person is willing to put aside their pride and admit they need help.

    I’m 15. I shoot low to mid 80s very consistently, I have been trying to fix all 5 of these tips before I even saw the video without realizing it. My biggest problem is that I loose focus between the 13 and 16 ish holes. It’s not that their any harder I just loose focus and don’t think about each shot enough. I’m going to start trying to think about every shot being the most important and in turn hopefully being able to stay focused the whole round.

      If your are getting a little tired towards the end of your round, you should work on your overall condition. Only if you are fit through all 18 holes you can keep your focus at a high level. All the pros work at their fitness and their strength for that reason.

    • @Michael-tk3vc
      @Michael-tk3vc 6 років тому +2

      Frank Schumacher - thank you for your advice. I very much agree with you because my parents just bought me a golf cart in June and since then I have became lazy and haven’t walked enough. I am addicted to golf and play every minute I can so from like 3:30 ( after school and during high school golf ) until about 6 or when it’s dark I am out playing. And on the weekends I’m at the course for at least 8 hours a day. ( Lol I’m at the course right now even ) anyway I would say I play about 15 rounds a week on average and I only walk during practice ( because we have too ) but when I prepare for a tournament I make sure to walk 18 holes daily. Also to any parents out there who are thinking about getting their kid a cart I would strongly recommend as soon as possible if you have the financial opening for that investment. Me and my best friend each have carts now and we have dropped our scores from mid 90s to high 70s because we got to get so much time on the course. It’s really amazing how much of a difference that practicing on the course gives us then in the range. Anyway thanks again and to any kids who want a golf cart show this to your parents they might change their minds lol. But honestly tho if I didn’t have my cart I wouldn’t be able to golf as much and I wouldn’t be as good.

    I think tip 1 got me to 80.....now I need to break 80 more often. I hover between 80-85.....Think I took this tip too early lol. Changed my game immensely. Your scores really get lower when you can simply advance and stay out of the woods and water. Tip 2....I have to work on. Great video.....makes you realize what you actually have to work on.

    Hey guys just wanted to say thank you for the videos. The dead aim technic and simplicity of the shot improved my game tremendously. I was having issues with accuracy and shot consistency. But the dead aim and simplicity of the shot (focusing on the flag stick instead of just the green) helped me achieve my first 4 under. I was normally any where from 85-93. Thank you for the tips. Keep up the hard work guys.

    Nicely done. When I am struggling, I try to 1: Not lose a ball (penalty) 2: No miss hits (duffs, shanks), 3: No 3 putts. That can usually save a few strokes with just a little focus, defensive golf and course management.

      Andrew Levy get a note book, and track stats (driving accuracy, putting, GIR, sand saves and scrambling etc), and figure out where you are consistently losing shots. Work on the weakness that you find. I think if your shooting as low as your saying your probably pretty good at all aspects of the game, but have one small issue in your game

    Keeping the emotions in check is a good one. Normally I shoot low to mid 80s. Had a rough round this past week. The front nine was awful. I don't think I've ever played that terribly in recent memory. I shot a 49. I couldn't hit a decent shot. And I was getting really frustrated and angry. The back 9 didn't start so well either. Started with a 7! So, I had to compose myself. Took a few deep breaths and refocused my thinking. The last 8 holes were infinitely better after refocusing. Which lead to playing better golf. Strung a few pars together and putted for eagle once. Ended up with a birdie. And finished the game with a 91. Which wasn't so bad considering I was sitting at 56 after 10 holes. At any rate, thanks for the tips! Always enjoy the videos.

  • @ethanlculver
    @ethanlculver 6 років тому

    Yeah, I definitely agree with the pitching tip. A lot of golfers I know who shoot in the 80s are fine off tee, decent with irons, but can't ever get up and down. They pitch/chip the ball waaaaay past the hole or chunk them. Let's say you hit 9/18 GIR. Assume your putting is good and you 2-putt those 9 greens; that's 9 pars. The other 9 holes where you miss the green, if you can just get up and down on 4 of them, that's only 5 holes left that you don't make par on. Keep those to bogeys and you break 80.

    I think the better we get, the less inclined we are to use driver. In the past, I never would have considered not using driver on a par 5. Last year, I played three consecutive 5 wood shots on a par 5 to land it in the middle of the green, and each shot was different: like a choked down driver off the tee, like a utility hybrid out of the rough, and like a mid-to-long iron from the fairway.

    What you convey is to apply proper course management and to improve in areas where you may be weak. That is what most golfers who want to improve do in any event. When I played my best golf I was on the driving range every afternoon after work. You have to hit your irons well to go low and you have to play at least once a week over a long period of time. And you have to have a shot shape.

    fantastic video as always. As a guy who took himself from 20 handicap to 8, some of my experiences. Pitching is HUGE for your score, and, very few teachers can teach it!!! it took me 5 instructors before i learned to pitch. But once i got it, wow, the scores dropped! also course management is big. Teeing off with long iron or hybrid when there is trouble.

    I break 90 on a regular basis. Breaking 80....very hard. I've come close a few times but from what I see, putting and getting up and down is the key. When I shoot low 80's, my putter and wedges are doing well for me. Having a fairway finder driver shot off the tee is vital as well.

      I should say also from reading the comments I've consciously worked on staying positive for the last 2 years of playing, started playing 5 years ago, and it's amazing how much you notice people setting themselves up for failure before even taking a shot. i.e. "knowing my slice I don't think I could ever get it into play here!" "Over water?! Let me grab my shitty top flite" "What a game! I knew I would shank this one!" Game is all confidence and mindset, why put yourself into loser mode before you even strike?

    The key to getting below a 10 handi is getting it up and down at least 50% of the time. Sure, make some putts. But if you can still make par (or bogey) on half of the 10 greens you miss in reg, you can shoot sub 80 a lot.

    the app 18birdies replaces all your course planners and tells you your distances with gps. I've been using it the last 2 rounds and it's helped keeping track of my distances and chosing the right club

    I like the course planner thing, I’ve actually tried it. Problem was I’m not good enough to execute the strategy 😂
    “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face” - Mike Tyson
    I tee off with an iron when I know I can’t drive the green with a driver and it’s a narrow fairway. Then I put the iron into the Woods. I think, “shoot, I coulda done that with the driver but been up 80 yards and pitching out up there instead “😂
