Tanya Donelly and Belly were a great band. The 90s was a great decade for music.

First time I heard this song was on 120 Minutes. My parents were divorced and I only had cable at my dad's house, who I only saw every other weekend. I was 14 and all people talked about at school was MTV so I'd cram it all in when I could. This song came on and I'd never heard anything like it. It blew me away. People only get maybe five songs that hit them like that in their entire life, and most of the time it happens when we're younger. This was one of them. I'd never heard anything like it and to this day I still haven't. This was the next cd I bought and believe it or not, I bought it from Wal Mart

Back in the day, you were at the mercy of the D.J. if they announced the name of the song or artist.... otherwise the song would bounce around in your head for many years, and find it by chance on here one year.

This isn't Grunge. It's adult alternative at best.
      Melvins are Grunge.
      I love it tho.

    • @Dulcimerist
      @Dulcimerist 3 роки тому +2

Thick chorus warble effect, as heard here and in some of Nirvana's and Screaming Tree's songs, is grunge style guitar.

    • @AuburnJunky
      @AuburnJunky 3 роки тому +1

@@Dulcimerist it's arguable that most of post Bleach Nirvana wasn't grunge.
They stayed true to their roots sure. That was their appeal. They did branch out tho.

I wore this CD out. Everyone who wonders what a 'hook' is only need to listen to this album. Was it marketing, or something else that prevented King from becoming what it should have been, which is a freaking commercial success.

+tornnomar Hands down my favorite album of all time. I had it in my CD player (literally) for a solid year from the day of it's release. In 20 years, I haven't gone more than a few weeks without listening to it. It is an old friend at this point.

This and perhaps 1-2 other songs should have been MTV staples. Even before I found out it was Glyn John's (Who's Next) produced, I really thought it had a real big powerful WHO sound to it. Winter / Spring 95 , cover of Rolling Stone etc . I really thought Belly were going to make a big splash. They certainly gave it they're all.

This album reminds me of Spring semester my freshman year of college. I would come back to my dorm, play "Doom" on my roommate's computer and listen to this album. I still play this album for running or my commute.

I have always loved this album. Saw them at the Tulip Festival in Albany NY In 93 I believe. Recently had a conversation with an acquaintance about music. Told her the 90's were my favorite period for music. She asked for examples. Belly was one of the bands I used. She had her 14 year old daughter sample some songs. Belly has a new fan. Pretty cool.

    ow I've lost the plot
I'm not the hero I could be
But not the dog I was
    Kind of common cry
    Kind of common living lie
    Color my fast fading heart
    People laugh at anything
    And things just fall apart
    Kind of common cry
    Kind of common living lie
You know the shape my breath will take before I let it out
Stand like you did when I was beauty-marked in your eyes
    Now they'll sleep tonight
    Mmm
Now eyes burn circles in the dark
And when the mirror talks to me
    I listen with my heart
    Kind of common cry
    Kind of common living lie
You know the shape my breath will take before I let it out
Stand like you did when I was beauty-marked in your eyes
You know the shape my breath will take before I let it out

I was so busy blowing green day, pearl jam, and a huge list of other great bands, ..that i missed this one. that heroin doc sent me on a journey. Tanya Donnely -Sweet ride led me on a path to Belly, then here, then a big flashback. This is that song. What a trip. Kinda pisses me off. Took me 25 yrs.
