Tanya is and will always be one of my fav rockin ladies , killer voice , over the top rock and roll .Mass ave is the most recent I can find and may be the best vocal yet .
Always thought this album was closest thing in the 90s to the Anthology of American Folk Music. Weird lyrics, murder ballads, catchy melodies and circular dissonances. Good stuff. :)
Back when this song came out, I couldn't afford cable so I didn't have MTV. That meant my only knowledge of Tanya was from her voice, and I still developed a crush on her. Later when I saw her videos, I felt totally vindicated.
Great and extremely underrated band... Tanya is crazy talented and a beautiful woman even today (she's 56). But wow! What they did with make-up and lighting here. She's stunning. While they've reunited, I so miss the years of my youth when we had the likes of Throwing Muses and Belly out there doing live shows, dancing around without a care in the world. I'd give anything to be able to go back and re-live the late 80's through the mid-90's.
My Uni daze, half a lifetime ago! "Star" was in pretty constant rotation in the Industrial Design Department at WWU in that era. Still have a crush on Tanya and reckon I'm still carrying the torch, after all these years...
For a time, the college radio station that I listened to at the time, out of Providence RI had Belly and Throwing Muses in their hourly rotation. I guess being a "home grown" band had some to do with it, but also that they were an effing great band and were constantly being requested had more to do with it.
This must be one of the most [90s] 4AD'ed music videos I've ever seen. Surreal domestic compositions, corroded textures... Wonder if Vaughan Oliver, Chris Bigg or Simon Larbalestier were involved in its art direction.
Have all three of their albums, a couple of collections and a load of singles. I wasn't even aware that this was a single (I'm guessing it was, because it has a video) and haven't heard this remix before. Great stuff.
For sure... I'd also have to say that of the dozens of videos and interviews I've seen with her here on the Tube, this is probably the best she's looked in any of them. The makeup and lighting people really nailed it for this video. It also looks like Tanya lost some weight from her earlier Belly appearances and her days in Throwing Muses. Not that this should matter, just pointing out that she looks thinner. Also... Never realized how attractive Gail looked as well. Great band, hugely underrated and it's too bad they couldn't have overcome the stress and drinking to continue on while in their prime.
Some people call her Alternative Rock's Marilyn Monroe. They are not too far off. Marilyn also had a genius-level intellect and was for more talented than the Ditzy Blonde typecast that she was known for.
@@lkgrave4959 I'd not heard that about Tanya... Interesting. She's very talented. I really enjoy her more recent interviews. She's introspective, with a few good nuggets of info, but you can tell that she puts a lot of thought into what she reveals. Doesn't want to give up too much, but that's her right... Privacy is not something to give up.
Throwing Muses are still around, it's just that Tanya Donelly is not in the band anymore. In fact, she hasn't been in the Throwing Muses since the early 90's. It's basically Kristen Hersh's band now.
Its amazing how your idea of how someone looks is influenced by your pre concieved unconscious prejudices.... i listened to belly back long before google ( yes there was a time...) , b4 internet was anywhere near accessible( maybe even a notion) . So videos , or magazines , maybe album pics were ya only proof or physical existence 😅. With a taped copy, being a poor crusty sk8punk i had an internal puc in my mind 25 yrs later that was waaay off... just sayins all...
brilliant! Belly, Throwing Muses, Breeders, loved this time
What a fantastic music family tree indeed.
Crazily underrated artists. Tanya is wonderful.
This really captures the vibe of those early 90s days
Agree

There is a third Belly album called Dove from 2018.

Best real female power band from the 90s. Deserve way more praise!!
Tanya was a force of nature!!!

wow do I miss the 90s
Yeah this video is the perfect 90s flashback
Saw them live at Roger Williams state park, played this song during a thunder and lightning storm.
Nice! I liked Belly back in the day!! 😎
Best US band ever. Tanya ❤❤❤❤
the biggest hook of the 90s.
This fantastic band brilliant track ❤❤❤❤❤
oh the good ol days

90s, ha, I was listening to them in college in the 80's graduated in 90.
I never really understood this song, but now after seeing this video it all makes sense.
Memories memories ❤️❤️
Saw you in paradiso amsterdam alive great performance, maybe time for a revisit again❤
30 years later I still have a crush on Tanya
I like this a lot
Total babe.
Fantastic!
Belly!!!!!
ty for this
This is the most 90s thing I've ever seen/heard.
It really is. This song is almost the 90s to me. Except Tori Amos' first three albums exist.
You need to get out more if that's the case
Thankyou for picking up Scheer on your label back in the 90's 4AD. Still one of my favourite bands.
sweet
Belly is the Best!!! YES!!! May God Bless y'all Richly and Jesus Peace!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year y'all!!! 🎉😮😂❤

I'll be there for youuuuuuuuu...))
What year is this song from?
1993
psycho sandwich June 1992 actually. This is the original EP version of “Slow Dog”. It was re-recorded a year later for the “Star” album.
INADRM This version came out in June of 1992.
@@OriginalGrasshopper
Thanks for clearing that up bro
Belly has a new album and video for Human Child so go watch it 💛🐝
Best Chorus ever made
It's definitely right up there with the best. I especially enjoy the ten or so seconds of runup to it (example: 2:35).
🥰
Who's a good boy?
Where’s the introoo
Unsuccessfully attempting to convince Tanya Donelly to marry me for thirty years now. Long road but I really think I'm gonna get her this year.
Take Tanya, Veruca Salt and the Breeders, and you got the 90's pegged.... maybe Indigo Girls for pepper ;)
That is why, Correct?
That's interesting considering that Tanya was a member of The Breeders before forming Belly.
dogs love a Belly rub.
Kristi Noems favorite song
Maria carry your rifle !!!!
Kristi Noem’s theme song. I’m sorry! I’ve loved this song for decades but the subject matter is gruesome.
Why did Throwing Muses die?
(I thot they were better than Belly)
Throwing Muses are still around, it's just that Tanya Donelly is not in the band anymore. In fact, she hasn't been in the Throwing Muses since the early 90's. It's basically Kristen Hersh's band now.
JM Po'lock Throwing Muses fan from their eighties beginnings here!
@@sergiosaunier Cool Man!
matt myers The eighties were, hands down, the coolest decade! I feel lucky having lived my teenage and young adult years during that period.
matt myers Tanya actually joins the Muses onstage occasionally even now. Usually when they’re in Boston.
woh, is this where That Dog got their name?
Sounds exactly like a Throwing Muses song.
A lot of Star's material would have been perfect in a Throwing Muses album. 😅
Weird intro mix.
Friends "theme song"
The Rembrandts should be paying royalty fees for biting off this rift
lol

I don't like dogs, but I like this song :)
So you dont like God?
Weird video
