UPDATE #1: As someone has already pointed out, Skinner's sedan IS SEEN in season 6 episode Bart's Comet! There's a link to a short extra video on this topic in the description! UPDATE #2: As several people have now pointed out, the police car seems to be derived from a Ford LTD Crown Victoria (1980-1991) and not the model shown in the video. My mistake! I don't intend to make a complete video to address this, but I may add it to a future Hit & Run video or upload it separately as a short. A HUGE thank you to those of you who joined me for the premiere! This video took a while longer than expected, partly due to some equipment failing me. Also, fun fact: This video contains clips from 90 Simpsons episodes! I think that might be a new record for me. Anyway, hope you enjoyed and I'll see you again soon! Michael
I assumed the rocket-like car Bart drives was owned by him😅 yeah I have yet to have seen EVERY episode of this show just yet XD so i didn't get every reference when playing it myself
I'd also like to add that, well, Grandpa's Jeep would not be a CJ. The C in CJ stands for civilian. Don't quote me as I'm not deep into Jeep history but I think an authentic WW2 Jeep would be a M-A or M-B or something like that
the thing with el carro loco is that its "made for the game" because bumblebee man was originally meant to be a playable character and el carro loco was supposed to be his level car. however playing as him was scrapped VERY early in development, much earlier than playing as moe, who at the time was already intended to be the level 5 character before getting replaced by apu.
Additional interesting fact. If you call electarus in a level Lisa isn't in (For example Level 4) Lisa will appear as the driver when called ftom the phone booth. While she never drives it in the show it's a neat little callback to Radicals previous Simpsons game Road Rage where that was Lisa's car of choice
There's also the Audi TT which is completely unused and the civilian cars that drive around which have their models pointed out on the videogame car database. Also the site got the Curator car wrong. It claims the car is a MG A but it's actually a DB2.
Even if it ends up looking more like a ZIL, being America, the limo is probably meant to be a Lincoln Town Car. The Malibu Stacey and Police Car are based on older Corvette/Crown Vic than you showed. And yes I am one if those IMCDb and IGCD nerds.
I figured the police car was an earlier design, whoops. 😂 The model looks too 'smooth' and modern. Thanks for commenting. I may give this a mention in another video!
Speaking as a Gearhead (code for car fan) and a huge fan of this game since I was a kid, I absolutely love the concept and execution of this video! Love that you brought up the real make and models that are possibly the real life inspirations!
You've done a great job with your research! It's a little strange that a video like this hadn't come out yet, but thank you for changing that. There are a few things I've looked into myself, so these are my findings/nitpicks. WARNING: WALL OF TEXT. - While the black limos in the show vary a bit in design, the in-game one is most consistent with one car above the ZIL, which is the first generation Lincoln Town Car, most specifically the 1985 facelift. The front and rear lights match almost one-to-one. - The Malibu Stacy car in the show varies a bunch between episodes, but if we go by the in-game design, and the fact that Malibu Stacy is a clear parody of Barbie, it's more accurate to say that it's based on the 1984 Corvette C4, and toy versions of said Corvette C4 were sold with Barbies at some point. What's bizarre about the in-game car is that the rear is anachronistic, with a chrome bumper you'd see in a car of the 1950s, not the 1980s. Odd choice by the vehicle designers. - The in-game version of the clown car very much seems to be a heavily customized VW Beetle. The limo, likewise, just looks like a heavily customized and stretched VW Beetle. - Your picture of the Crown Vic is a little bit off, by about... 40 or so years. The 1980 Ford LTD is the closest match to the in-game police car, which has a "stubby" appearance while a real life Ford LTD is anything but stubby. There WERE a number of LTD models in the 1980s sold with the Crown Victoria name, but they were very different from the one you showed, which was most likely made in the past decade. - The very first flashback that features Homer's muscle car leads me to believe it is based on the 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner, with the inspiration most noticeably coming from the front grille, rear lights, side stripes, and the vent behind the door, all features shared with the Plymouth in exact detail. - The curator car looks to be more closely based on the 1955 MG MGA than the DB2. Good guess all the same. While I couldn't help with the show side of things, I hope I have helped with the car side of things. Once again, good job with the video!
Thank you!! And yes, somebody pointed out the police car and Malibu Stacey convertible issues - I did suspect I had used different, more recent models. I think a lot of these are also difficult to pinpoint as there look to be aspects of various models incorporated in their designs. It also doesn't help that the models seemed to morph over time as the drawings in earlier episodes weren't as regimented and consistent, like the Lil' Bandit car, which seems to totally alter in shape/design. Homer's 70s car also seems to be a composite of several cars? I'm still a little unsure. I tried though! I love that this has spawned some conversation and debate with people here in the comments. Glad you enjoyed the video!
16:23 - This car actually created a Mandela Effect for me. I knew that Globex was a reference to "You Only Move Twice", and I thought there was a brief scene where you see Hank Scorpio getting into the car.
McLaren continued to use that color scheme up until 1996 because their formula one team was sponsored by Marlboro. Having your team's colors matching your sponsors is normal in motor racing
Great video but I think you may be wrong about the Jeep CJ at 5:55, Willys CJ models stand for "Civilian Jeep" the models made for the military are known as Willys MB. If it's a military surplus Jeep it would be an MB. After 1945 Willys sold the CJ-2A as their first civilian model
I first played the game when I was about 7 years old, I recognised a third of the vehicles and catchphrases in the game from the show, and then a third from the game in the show. Thanks for filling me in on (most) of the other third!
i've always wondered how close the cars in the game were to the show and surprisingly they got a lot of them, thanks for scouring the show that must not have been easy I really enjoyed the video :)
There was an episode in which Homer's sedan was referred to as a 1979 Dodge (I'm sure someone said that over a tannoy or something similar), and based on that I'd place it as a Dodge Dart. The nerd car looks most like a 1983 Nissan Cherry Europe to me, but it can't be because they weren't sold in America
I'm pretty sure the hearse with the flames and flashing lights in Level 7 (that the cops use and you can drive) is meant to be based on the famous Ghostbusters car given it seems to be a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Sentinel ambulance the same as that said car and you know, being used by cops in a level full of ghosts
this is the EXACT kind of video of stuff I asked myself when i played the game but now i have a man here ready to explain the best part of the game for me. the cars. this is gonna be good
Nice work, i appreciate the effort you put into this despite not being into cars It’s a shame Ned’s Geo Metro and Marge’s orange station wagon don’t appear in the game Also at one point I thought the nerd car looked like a Toyota AE85 Levin, but the front of it looks nothing alike
Great video!👍 It's interesting to see those car references and where they first appear in the show. Also don't worry, I'm not really a full car enthusiast either. I know a few, but not a lot.
Excellent video! I remember when I was a kid being a huge car nerd and loved watching the Simpsons when I got home from school I spent so long trying to work out what all the cars in the game were in real life.
The Canyonero has more a resemblance to a Chevy Tahoe or a Ford Expedition. Curator is more of a British sports car like an Austin Healy or an MG Midget. Homer's car in level 7 is 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner.
Cletus probably had a heap of those pickups since it’s an old banger and I highly doubt he is at all mechanically minded so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has been through heaps of them. As for skinner’s lack of car, there is nothing to say he doesn’t borrow other people’s cars or hire cars while he waits for his mother’s car to be fixed every time it’s destroyed.
My theory as to why the Longhorn's colour is changed is because the producers wanted the main car for each character to be distinct from each other, so they didn't want three red cars as the main car in consecutive levels, as Marge's Canyanero is the main car for Level 4, and the Ferrini Red is Bart's main car in Level 6.
@@idonthaveanose Thanks. I have an idea for the next video - comparing the cars that were included in Road Rage to those in Hit and Run. I found it interesting when playing Road Rage that Grandpa and Lisa have cars from the show in that game, but cars exclusive to the game in Hit and Run. I have a theories as to why. With Lisa's car, the producers probably wanted something very distinct and memorable in design for each character's main vehicle, and they may have felt the Electaurus was a bit plain-looking. As for Grandpa's car, it's a reference to a very quick joke in the episode "I'm With Cupid", so they may have felt that not enough fans would recognise it, so instead decided to play into the fact that Grandpa fought in WW2, something that is referenced in many episodes. Ned Flander's Station Wagon is the only other car that is present in Road Rage but left out of Hit and Run. Cars such as Mr Burns' limo and the hover car were in both, but with different designs. Interestingly, Apu's Longhorn is red in Road Rage, supporting my theory.
I've always thought the Canyonero was based on the Ford Explorer. The "unexplained fires" line in the Canyonero song and its tendency to tip over are definitely references to infamous issues suffered by the real Explorer.
It's unfortunate what was cut. Level 7 was originally going to be the same distance as the first, but ended up getting cut short. They even had music set for a different variation of the Stone Cutter's tunnel, but I guess the Gamecube version wasn't big enough to fit all that in. On newer tech someone was able to connect the maps together, and it's amazing how much bigger it all is together as one instead of the short loops per level.
Petty note, but Cleetus's animated truck bears a closer resemblence to a 51/52 ford or a 53-56 ford depending on the shot, going off the bed and cab window.
13:08 The longhorns color change could be a reference to the Texas Longhorns, as the in game car has the colors for that university and design on the hood is very similar to that schools logo
The nerd car is a first or second generation VW Scirocco with a bit of Honda CR-X in there as well. Those examples you got online are so much more round and bubbly than the car we see in-game.
I absolutely love your reviews especially your Simpsons ones I was wondering if you are ever going to do a review or something like this for Simpsons road Rage or even comparing that version of Springfield to the other two from The Simpsons Hit and Run and Simpsons game respectively
@@idonthaveanose either way I'm excited I really enjoy your channel and your many videos. I've been a watcher of your content for a couple years now. I always make sure to recommend your Channel to others.
In real life the hearse with flames existed. Another game that had the flames on the front end was in the Saints Row series where Burns has another nuclear plant.
The 70s sports car isnt a Challenger or Barracuda, it's a Plymouth Road Runner, with the spoiler from it's sister car, the Dodge Charger's Daytona variant
Note about the Limo, its kinda just generic car as Soviet cars weren't that easy to look up into the 2000s to 2010s, and that Ussr limo is a knock off of the 1979 Mercury Grand Marquis (The Russians weren't known for originality of car design all Soviet cars are a copy of a European cars)
@@idonthaveanoseYeah I saw that but here's a deep cut fun fact, did you know the Homer is based on a real car, not really visually but rather more on a satire level, the 1991 Chevy Caprice when releases was a laughing stock with its modernized design based off of a 1961 Impala, it was joked about so much it inspired that episode
@@idonthaveanose Maybe but my money is on the Caprice given when the episode was being made and when the Caprice was showed off, also Powell Motors is a very obvious reference to General Motors, the parent company of Chevy
Now I might be a little late but I would say the open wheel race car is closer to a Penske Indy car chassis than the McLaren stated especially with the rear wing being different design wise
Glad you’re doing a car video 😃 I love cars and cars in video games ^^ not an expert or anything though. Also you know the transformers game based on the 2007 Michael bay movie? it’s an open world game where you can destroy buildings as either autobots or deceptions I would like to request that one if it’s ok :)
Just to point out the police car is actually based on the older model 1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria not the newer modern crown vic shown in the images of the video we know today.
19:53 as a long time racing fan that car is NOT an F1 car, but, is rather a CART Series Indycar from around 1987-1990. Save for the colour, it could be modelled off the very succuessful Penske PC-17.
If i may point out as someone more in the know of F1: The Mclaren MP4/2 was driven by both Niki Lauda and Alain Prost for the entirety of the 1984 season. 2nd, and this is just my personal opinion but the car in the game seems to be more based on the Mclaren MP4-5b or MP4/6
I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like Lisa's car (atleast the front end design) bears resemblance to the W20 Generation Toyota MR2. Although Mr2's are mid-engined in real life, not front engine.
I always thought Homer's vehicle was some sort of Russian car.. because of that one episode where that tow truck driver says something like "Homer.. your car is made out of recycled Soviet tank parts" or something very similar
@idonthaveanose also Married with Children had a similar gag where Al's Dodge (A Plymouth Duster) broke down and they had to get parts from Cuba with the joke being their cars are so old only Cuba has parts for it as Cuba has been locked off from the Weatern World since 1960
This is just me guessing. But maybe Apu had there cars colour changed to differentiate his car from Barts Ferini. While less iconic originally the Ferini was to have a bigger role in the games story according to the source code leak a while back. Originally Truck- a -saurus was to be a boss fight of some kind where the goal was to open the display case to the Ferini and steal it by pulling levers. Then using it to escape the monster
@@idonthaveanose Trust me, the source code leak is your one stop shop for all things weird and obscure about this game. Like that isn't even the only boss that went unused. Originally the Museum dino fossil in L5 was a boss as well as a planned Duff Robot dino controlled by Ralph in a motion capture suit for L7. The reason they're all dinos is Because they could just reuse assets from one boss to the next. (Which sadly never came to be unfortunately)
I've read and seen a few things about the unused content - I didn't know about the dinosaur bosses concept but this would actually make some sense considering the presence of Truckasaurus and the museum dinosaur in the movies. As a kid, I was initially underwhelmed by the brief appearance of Truckasaurus as it looks as though it precipitates a boss fight. Interesting stuff!
I think El Carro Loco appears either as John's car in "Homer's Phobia" or Bumblebee Man's at some point. I'm thinking 22 Short Stories about Springfield but it could be another of his appearances.
John's car is a similar colour but it's not the same. I also thought about Bumblebee Man but I don't recall seeing it. We're thinking along the same lines though so there's a chance it's in there somewhere.
@@idonthaveanoseAll that matters is that your gave your best two cents, better than none. Plus this is the definitive game of my childhood, so I greatly appreciate you covering it!
lol when I played this game as a kid I remember my dad loved the ghost ship in level 7 XD made him laugh with a pirate captain upfront with a lantern and a guy on the back rowing lol but he was kinda creeped out by donut homer saying DONT BUY THAT THATS WEIRD 😂 he also loved the hearse which plays draculas theme when you honk the horn. my personal favourite….grandpas WW2 jeep because it’s the car that pretty much saves the day at the end game ^^ that and the police hearse ☠️

@@idonthaveanose Oh my gosh I am so excited to see your review of it. Thank you very much for replying to my comment as I sincerely appreciate it.
I don't know when it will be but it's on the to-do list. 😂
@@idonthaveanose either way I'm excited I really enjoy your channel and your many videos. I've been a watcher of your content for a couple years now. I always make sure to recommend your Channel to others.
@RedFoxReviewer Very much appreciated!! Thank you! 😁
It always bothered me a ton that Homers car had no roof in the game as well.
In real life the hearse with flames existed. Another game that had the flames on the front end was in the Saints Row series where Burns has another nuclear plant.
Also Homer’s green 70’s muscle car resembles a 1970 Plymouth roadrunner, it’s too big to be a challenger/barracuda
Another correction the police car it is a Crown Vic but wrong year, you showed a newer 1998 Crown Vic but the one of the show is a 1979
Thanks, this has been pointed out. If I get enough corrections, at some point I'll do a follow-up to address this stuff.
@@nickrustyson8124 I thought the concept of it was derived from a hideous Ford car?
@@idonthaveanose Maybe but my money is on the Caprice given when the episode was being made and when the Caprice was showed off, also Powell Motors is a very obvious reference to General Motors, the parent company of Chevy
Now I might be a little late but I would say the open wheel race car is closer to a Penske Indy car chassis than the McLaren stated especially with the rear wing being different design wise
I was gonna say for homers car it’s a mix of a valiant front and a Deville back
My sister had a Barbie convertible which was a pink Corvette so I never questioned the Malibu Stacy convertible
I'll make a note of it - not sure when I'd get around to it though as I've got several videos planned atm. 🙂
@@idonthaveanose no probs 😀 yeah I’m really looking forward to this upcoming video 👍
Just to point out the police car is actually based on the older model 1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria not the newer modern crown vic shown in the images of the video we know today.
This has been pointed out already a few times - if I make a follow-up video to this at some point, I'll be giving this a mention.
Good video
Can't wait for that review of the critical acclaimed Ant Bully game.
19:53 as a long time racing fan that car is NOT an F1 car, but, is rather a CART Series Indycar from around 1987-1990. Save for the colour, it could be modelled off the very succuessful Penske PC-17.
This is already being covered in a subsequent video as it's already been mentioned, thanks
@@idonthaveanose ahh righto, missed that bit, soz
No worries, I'll give your comment a mention all the same - a few people have mentioned this
Oh I’m so here for this
If i may point out as someone more in the know of F1: The Mclaren MP4/2 was driven by both Niki Lauda and Alain Prost for the entirety of the 1984 season. 2nd, and this is just my personal opinion but the car in the game seems to be more based on the Mclaren MP4-5b or MP4/6
The police cruiser has nothing to do with a Ford Crown Vic...
Its more of a Ford LTD from 1989
I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like Lisa's car (atleast the front end design) bears resemblance to the W20 Generation Toyota MR2. Although Mr2's are mid-engined in real life, not front engine.
The open wheel racer’s seating position is too far back and too low to be a MP4/2, looks more like an MP4/6 to me.
You did good actually, much even. I am clueless about cars and can't be arsed to learn about them. 😂
I like this game
I always thought Homer's vehicle was some sort of Russian car.. because of that one episode where that tow truck driver says something like "Homer.. your car is made out of recycled Soviet tank parts" or something very similar
I was going to mention that at one point but I just saw it as a gag and not necessarily grounded in any realism.
@idonthaveanose also Married with Children had a similar gag where Al's Dodge (A Plymouth Duster) broke down and they had to get parts from Cuba with the joke being their cars are so old only Cuba has parts for it as Cuba has been locked off from the Weatern World since 1960
How does this video not have more views?
In the simpsons road rage some traffic cars are based on real life cars
You kinda forgot the secret car in the final episode that being the RC car you can find on the roof of the grocery store
I didn't forget it - it's not from an episode to my knowledge so it didn't feature.
@@idonthaveanose Ah
The police car definitely isn't Ford Crown Victoria you showed. Looks more like 80s Ford LTD Crown Victoria.
Interesting! I wasn't aware of this!
Excellent!
you got the EV1 right 👍
I think El Carro Loco appears either as John's car in "Homer's Phobia" or Bumblebee Man's at some point. I'm thinking 22 Short Stories about Springfield but it could be another of his appearances.
John's car is a similar colour but it's not the same. I also thought about Bumblebee Man but I don't recall seeing it. We're thinking along the same lines though so there's a chance it's in there somewhere.
I think the Nerd Car is Comic Book guy's car in S15 Episode 17 but his car is green so I dunno.
Can you or have you done one of these videos for Road Rage?
I haven't but I'm intending to review Road Rage in the near future.
Nice video ! Never played the Game but maybe one day
Thank you! Honestly, with all the hype, I'd hope you wouldn't be underwhelmed. But it controls well and it's incredibly faithful to the TV series.
Aint the Nerd car, be the Ned car ?
Nope, Ned has a red Geo Metro and a dark blue station wagon
The mini van does appear, apus wife is driving it with all their children in eight misbehaving
The ferranini or something is closest to ferrari f355 berlinetta imo
I need this game
No... ZIL doesnt make sense for to be in the simpsons world, not for the mafia to drive. Even a '86 Ford LTD would have more resemblance
It's a Lincoln Town Car and will be addressed in a follow-up video
Just me that never had the night boat
The jeep is a willys MB jeep didnt get its name yet but it is the WW2 vehicle
The cop car is an 1987-ish Crown Victoria LTD, yet you've shown the post 1998 Crown Victoria for the images.
Check the pinned comment :)
@@idonthaveanoseAll gud :3
@@idonthaveanoseAll that matters is that your gave your best two cents, better than none. Plus this is the definitive game of my childhood, so I greatly appreciate you covering it!
Thank you!! I'm gonna be doing a follow-up video addressing corrections so I'll likely be giving this comment a mention btw.
@@idonthaveanose Sweet! Love to hear it man ^^
love the title pun A+!
Haha, thank you! 😂
@@idonthaveanose you're welcome
Gaming and series Easter eggs.
Wait what about the chase sedan and the black car you race at the end of the game
To my knowledge, they're not in the show so they wouldn't feature in the video
good video
I the cop car is based of a ford Ltd crown Victoria from the 80’d
I noted this in the pinned comment 🙂
@@idonthaveanose ok thx since it’s my fav car
Wooooo! Simpsons lesson time!
lol when I played this game as a kid I remember my dad loved the ghost ship in level 7 XD made him laugh with a pirate captain upfront with a lantern and a guy on the back rowing lol but he was kinda creeped out by donut homer saying DONT BUY THAT THATS WEIRD 😂 he also loved the hearse which plays draculas theme when you honk the horn. my personal favourite….grandpas WW2 jeep because it’s the car that pretty much saves the day at the end game ^^ that and the police hearse ☠️
6:45 infamous?
Well, amongst Simpsons fans anyway. It's regarded as one of the best episodes.
I left a like I want more about the game and I its costume
Bro made a biography about cars and called it a autobiography
In the words of Rainier Wolfcastle, 'that's the joke'.
too bad skinners car wasnt based on a Volvo 740
This is also something I'll be mentioning in the next video
@@idonthaveanose you can also mention a few more thibgs i found if you want to. Limo is primarly based on the 80s Lincoln Town Car, as shown by the tail lights and the police cars are based on the Ford LTD Corwn Vics
@@antesosic1600 These are already noted but thank you
