just a note that Ghostrunner has gotten another update on switch that really improves the graphics and maybe even the framerate. could be worth an inclusion in your next patch / update video
Non-related comment to this video, but just wanted to tell Switchup that I hope your channel continues to grow. Between you guys and Nintendo life guys I think you give the best most useful Switch info I’ve found so far. Please keep up the great work, you guys are awesome!
Both this and Undermine coming out on console caught me by surprise as i had thought they were going to take some time to be multi-platform. Thanks as ever for the helpful and insightful review!
You guys put this on my radar a few weeks back. Was waiting for this review. Rogue like games are my jam. This is defiantly going on my backlog. Thanks Mark
Great review Rob and Mark! Already know I'm getting Bravely Default 2, but (im)patiently waiting for the only review of it that matters! The SwitchUp one!
I have my four eyes on this one. It looks unique! But can it be the next Hades, or should this Dead God remain in the mythology library section? Let’s find out!
Played this game on early access, very fun and I honestly liked their light and dark mechanic. And nice it's a decent alternative to Hades' insane fast combat.
First No but in all seriousness, I love this channel for the amount of money I save, avoiding spending my money on games I would end up disliking and expanding my switch library, I really appreciate it
I stopped trying to parry when I played the early access on PC for the mentioned reasons... too bad it is not fixed. I am behind this review with all the positives and negatives, still a really good game.
Been waiting for this for a while now and grabbed it the minute it went on sale. I normally wait for at least one review but I took a risk with this one and have really been enjoying it 👍🏻 Got it on Xbox mainly because I have Dead Cells and Hades on Switch (and it was only £14 on Xbox for some reason) but it seems like they've done a very good job of the Switch version compared to a similar title West of Dead which didn't look or run anywhere near as nicely. Good work. PS. Tell Rob he really needs to play Dead Cells and Hades ASAP!
I'm not too big on Rogue likes but I love Dead Cells, put a lot of time into that one. IT's just that i have too many games to play so I'll probably not get this one. I'm in the middle of Immortals Fenyx Rising man is that good. I like it as much and maybe a little more than BOTW. The humor and story telling is better and I like the action more as well. not sure how this comment became an Immortals review...
For the most part I always wait on reviews before buying games. At least the games for the switch. But not this time. I just had a feeling I'd love it, and I do. Larger text would be nice tho. Thanks for working so hard gang!
Think I will pick up Ruins of Tasos (the demo sold me on it) and Hades before this. But I think this sounds really cool and I love the atmosphere of it! Thanks lads for the reviews as always :)
The gameplay in this is super satisfying and punchy but the game gets repetitive pretty fast once you're done with the first few dungeons and realize you're just fighting the same four enemies or so per area. It's like Hades meets Dark Souls, but without the variety or intrigue of neither. I like it though. It does what it sets out to do very well, but the main issue is that some other games just do it a bit better or in a more interesting way.
I been waiting for this game personally i like some gameplay of it because its do it better then hades but hades has great storytelling so yeah win for all who play both thanks for reviewing this even if i get this at the hours release 😆
Couldn't wait, got it 😁 and it's good! Exactly what you said, it's not Hades level but it's very good, more than 100 hours on Hades and I'm still unlocking part of the story, the one thing missing from this one
The aesthetic reminds me so much of Darkest Dungeon, which is a great thing, but automatically elicits feelings of terror in me. Sounds like my experience with this game would be closer to Rob's than yours, Mark. Haha.... Great review, it's going on the wish list!
hey just want to help you out. yes it is tough very tough and as for like dead cells no its not but if you like a challenge and enjoy some fast paced combat(not as fast as dead cells) then it is worth it. i have played about 100 hours while it was in early access on steam then i immediately got it for the switch when it released. if you do plan on purchasing than some advice is master the parry it in my opinion isnt as hard as he makes it sound it will save you time. just stayed in one room with two enemies and let them keep attacking me so i could learn to parry also if you think it cant be parried it probably can. i loved the light and dark mechanic while yes you take more damage in the dark there are relics in the game that play on that by giving you 15% 30% or 45% more damage if you are fighting in the dark. it is a fantastic game and i hope you give it a shot and i hope this helps.
I mentioned it in an earlier upcoming release video but this looks like a hybrid between HADES and SOULBLIGHT. What's SOULBLIGHT you ask, well its the first game I encountered with a tainting mechanic which included the benefits and downsides of the specific corruption you chose. This is a great looking game with a great price...LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!
Update, COTDG is not playable with the Hayabusa RapV fight stick for Switch. Nevertheless, this game is amazing. I would not advise waiting on it. Its been a while since an overhead crawler roguelike has sucked me in this fast. Hades was more of a slow roller as far as me becoming addicted to it. That could be said even more so for Undermine. RAD was just different. I think the last time I got immediately drawn into a game of this sub genre was with the legendary Enter The Gungeon. And to be precise, although that game is also a dungeon crawler, it was also a twin stick shooter, and not a hack and slash. combat is similar to RAD with a little Hades mixed in. Exploration wise, very much like Hades, but less free running, slower, but not too slow. Just right. Even though enemies consistently focus on you, they don't swarm you like in some games. It feels like more of a Torchlight or Diablo esque dungeon crawler as far as the controls and feel go , but of course being a roguelike ita more tightly focused, with a light dark twist and perfectly tuned mechanics. Also the parry mechanic is perfect. It's not off putting like the parry mechanic in Gods Will Fall. It feels amazing, kind of like blocking with a shield in a Zelda game. Like i said, would have preffered if i could play it with my arcade stick, but nevertheless, don't sleep on this game. Also to note, other sticks that support pro controller button mapping (the Rap V does not) will most likely work with this game. Just throwing that in there on case anyone besides me loves playing Hades with an arcade stick.
honestly, I was kind of hesitant to get this one, I dont care much for the look of the main character and most of the enemies look pretty bland from what I've seen, the world itself looks great though, I loved hades and I've always preferred Norse mythology over greek or roman so I think I'll give it a shot, the difficulty looks good too, on the hard side definitely but I usually enjoy harder games so, we'll see... the review really helped me make up my mind though lol, thanks!
i love rogue likes... but in the last few months i played skul, hades and gunfire reborn... so im not sure if i want another one xD But curse of the dead gods sure looks nice... damn it
well it was designed to play in both i prefer the dark cause there are relics that give you 15 30 45% damage increase while fighting in the dark. i barely even light torches lol
@@joelvanek3062 yeah they play very well off of each other the whole dark and light mechanic and the cursed mechanic there are some weapons in the game that the more curses you have the more damage you do there's weapons that the more cursed relics you have the more damage you do. In my opinion they did really well on designing the game. And I know he said the parrying system needs to be worked on but in all honesty I don't really think it does while in the end everything could use improving I think once you get the hang of the visuals you have plenty of time to dodge and Parry everything. Just remember that if you catch an enemy on fire that will put you in the light
This game looks gorgeous don't now if I'll buy it, roguelikes are not my cup of tea but by looks alone it got my interested is like a mix of darkest dungeon and hades
@Matuscara ت well nothing will take me away from POE but its nice to kill a bit on the handheld, just don't want to get frustrated with owerwhelming challenge

Hmm. I’m not tired of rogue lites, but I need more “chill” games to balance the influx of action I’ve collected lol
Been enjoying moonlighter for this reason. Very laid back but still an actual challenge.

Don't Starve has some action but is definitely more chill

I immediately thought of the Darkest Dungeon when I saw this. Looks awesome.

I was sitting thinking to myself "wonder if switchup will review Curse of the dead gods? It looks decent." Then viola!! Here it is!
Yet another game I want to play...got my eye on the physical version of Hades as well
Yeah this is decent! Mark
I will get the hades physical just for the sake of keeping a memory of such a masterpiece, I will not even open it
@peter nguyen They are releasing a physical edition of Hades for switch lad comes out in March
@peter nguyen They announced it at the direct. Hades physical copy launches March 19th.
@peter nguyen k but you wrong tho

Great to see a rogue like on the switch. Lord knows they are rare.
I see what you did there. XD
Will you be reviewing Bravely Default 2?
Sounds like this game is probably a bit too difficult for me, but I love the visuals! Appreciate seeing you all review it, thanks.
It is not really that hard, plus you can adjust the difficulty (downwards) significantly.. All the way up to the point where you become invincible.
If you’re used to Souls or Souls-like games, it’s not that bad, honestly. It’s more methodical than something like Hades but is a lot of fun.
Strong Darkest Dungeons vibes
Does this have a physical release?
