@@cristianardonmonge836 that sounds all good and dandy, until you notice how alot of boss fights are basically avoiding projectiles that go all over the place, while waiting for, like you said, certain "the boss can be hit now" moments. its not a pure bullet hell, sure, but there's too many projectiles and those fights are too puzzle like for my taste.
Crosscode DESERVES to become a classic. It's absolutely incredible. Combat is smooth, frantic and super responsive. The art/music is amazing, and the plot made me sit back and go "holy hell, you're REALLY clever, CrossCode". Oh, and I haven't seen dungeon puzzles this devious in forever. It's like Golden Sun, but with more ambition. XD
@@sirnatanielson I hear you. The Golden Sun series was more important to me as a teen than most people can understand. So when I say the puzzles make me feel like "This reminds me of Golden Sun, just more complex and based on projectiles" I mean it.
I'll add to this since it wasn't mentioned a whole lot: while the plot is interesting (although kind of sparse) the characters in this game really shine, and I found there to be some surprisingly heartfelt moments throughout. Lea especially is a fantastic lead character who has a ton of charm despite... reasons you'll find out very quickly after starting the game!
Lea is among my favorite RPG protagonists of all time to be honest. Quite a feat considering her somewhat "limited" options in communicating, but the way the game uses her character portrait to show emotions is masterful. Nothing beats her smug smile while saying "Lea!" when she accomplished something. And i absolutely adore the friendly rivalry between her and Emilie.
I've played through this game twice on PC and its in my short list of favorite games of all time. I will mention a few things I didn't catch in the review. The world design is an ingenious puzzle in itself. Each region is made up of multiple layers, where you must find a specific way to navigate platforms to find hidden weapons and treasures. This element deserves praise because it is highly complex and engaging. The dungeon and boss designs also blew me away. I hate to lump these categories together, since I could discuss each at length, but I will just say that the game, despite having small issues here and there is massively better than the sum of any of its parts. It's a thinking person's game, where patience and careful analysis pays off grandly. As a last comment, I desperately want this company to produce a follow-up as I'd be first in line to buy it.
Just a note to people who pick this up - the game can seem really really difficult, but the one bit of advice i'd give is Gear matters more than Levels! If you're taking too much damage, go upgrade your gear. Completing a few side quests should give you enough to upgrade a couple of pieces which is usually enough to take you forward.
@@stevered9659 I've played this game since the first early access release, it's incredibly fun and it was harder back then. Sadly they caved in to protesters as all of the negative reviews complained about the need to grind and the difficulty of the battles, but they ended up giving us sliders instead so the whiners could just make the game easy and stop crying about it. Sadly we still lost some of the difficulty and I loved the fact they added the S-rank fast respawn on mobs so the grind can be done very quickly if you're skilled (or if you adjust the sliders to baby mode)
I've started playing this game two months ago and finished it 2 weeks ago... To be honest, I'm kinda mad at myself for not playing it before.. It just sat there, in my Steam game library for months, waiting to be discovered while I was in my "desperate attempt" to find a GOOD game at the time... 'cuz you know, there's a load of games, but not many games that really gets to you... This game is exactly what I wanted and I didn't know it. I'm a big 16 bit fan, and I love the "secret of mana"-esque battle. It's quick, efficient and every monster has to be dealt with differently, so the battle never gets boring. The story is real good, the characters gave me many good chuckles and some parts of the game really got to me... This is a passion project and it shows; you can actually feel it while playing. Nothing is left unchecked (maps, elevations, items, music, skills, puzzles, the Peudo-MMO environment and the little jokes about MMOs typical tropes, etc), this game is basically one of the best game I've played in recent years. And even when the game is finished, the game has a sweet trick up its sleeve to give it an awesome replay value! Even though I own this game on PC, I can garantee you; this game will also be on my Switch as soon as I can get my hands on a physical copy. The devs are worth encouraging for releasing such a fantastic game. I totally recommend it! But be warned: Even though you can tweak the puzzles and damage taken in the menu, the game can be REAL hard! If you think you're a good player, then this game is absolutely for you! For less experienced player, I suggest tweaking the options to your liking, until you get the hang of it, then get it back to normal. This game is MEANT to challenge you, either I'm speaking of your ability to fight or to solve puzzles. Without a good brain to understand the different elemental mechanics and elevation tricks, you can get stuck real good. Of course, there's internet and playthroughs to help you out but, where's the fun in that? Unless you're only playing for the story, then go ahead, watch the solutions and knock yourselves out! :)
Just bought it for the switch a couple of hours ago. I've literally been checking the store non stop since after midnight last night 😂 I've just got done with the tutorial stuff and have just been teleported to the playground and I'm blown away already! The fluidity of movement and flow of the game are what I find striking about the game so early on. Of course, as you mentioned the soundtrack is stunning even this early too. I don't think I can remember being so impressed with a game so early on. This one has had a big impact on me already! I can't wait to see everything it has to offer! I'm so pleased they brought this to the Switch. Issues aside (none of which I've noticed yet) it feels right at home on the Switch. Thanks for a great review. I'm 30 hours in and this game is really good! Such a hidden gem! Why have I never heard about this game and it's been out since 2015. Im currently playing the Switch port and the only bad things I've seen is the occasional severe frame drop at times, annoying load times in ANY menu, and game crashing rarely, but it has auto save which is a godsend (crashed 3 times on me within my 30 hours of gameplay).
PS4 player here. Fun game there too. They're really working hard on making sure it runs well on all platforms, and slowly rolling out all the enhancements the PC version got over the years. Loved this story, and the character. The way the gameplay expanded was fun too, going from four basic actions, to allowing alterations to those, and the stat and skill buffs equipment gives allowing for so many play styles. Oh, and that ending. Gods, the final boss is epic, the scenes afterwards chilling, triumphant, sad, and all the other things mixed in in all the right ways. Brings back fond memories of SNES era's best RPGs for that alone.
I saw this game coming to Steam a year or two ago thinking "this will be perfect on the Switch" as it looks like a futuristic classic Zelda game. Glad it got ported over. @@ineednochannelyoutube5384 Closer, Diablo to me is more dungeon crawler along with magicka. Throw in some infuriating ass puzzles and you're on the right track. Just spent way too long getting the angle just right on this hermit house puzzle. One of the only gripes I have with this game, and the map. The map is complete trash. Whoever thought that was a good design choice needs to be shot.

The jumping in it waaaas ass though and there are some areas that rely heavily on jumping. A game that's less on the puzzle aspect I'd compare it to also on snes is soul blazer. Great games.
It's finally here! Finally finally! I'm so happy it's got a release date for Switch! Played it on Game Pass and adored it. Can't wait to pick it up and enjoy it all over again!

I just want to mention one fun little detail I love about this game full of other fun little details I love: Lea's level up animation is borrowed straight from the beautiful and oft-overlooked SNES game Terranigma.
I have BEEEEEN waiting for this game ever since it was announced it was coming over in 2018. You have no idea how amped I am its finally here!! The soundtrack for it is pretty dope too.

This is one of my favorite games and I hope Nintendo hypes this more. It's exactly what the switch need more of. CrossCode should please old school fans of SNES action RPGs while appealing to new players that want modern mechanics.
To whoever sees this, the game is great amazing, but I truly suggest you to buy it on pc or console, so far the it's switch engine isnt great and the game is laggy so I recommend it on pc or console.
I've said this too many times now but I'll say it again because it needs to be said. This game isn't hugely popular, but it sure as hell is a cult classic. Get in on it, try the demo. I beat the game and while not a total completionist, it was rewarding and engaging and it took me about 85 hours, and New Game+ is there too and even has some extra features and bonus dialogue that makes the game even more amusing after its done giving you frustration and catharsis, some serious ethical questions to consider and characters you can't help but feel happy to have met. SO? GO CHILD! STOP WAITING TO SEE IF IT IS OR ISNT FOR YOU AND TRY IT!
I'm glad that this has finally come to Switch, I've been patiently waiting since the PC release for this to come to Switch. Absolutely can't wait to play this one

Despite owning a copy on Steam, I preordered a physical copy for the Switch the day it was announced so that I'll be able to play this game on-the-go (not that, at the moment, there's any reason to go anywhere because pandemic). CrossCode is perhaps my favorite game of the 21st century so far, taking many elements of all my favorite games and utilizing them to great effect. The story is so endearing, the characters delightful, gameplay feels fluid and natural (on a controller at least), and the artistic structure of the visuals and the audio are terrific. Aside from minor complaints concerning visual conveyance and some late-game puzzle difficulty that just isn't fun for me, I love this game. It ain't perfect, but oh boy do I not care. This game is amazing. Can't wait to replay it for the umpteenth time, but on the Switch. I'll be on the lookout for the inconsistent framerate though, so thanks for the heads up there.

I was not expecting to add this game to my wishlist, but here I go. It looks great! Even the story sounds like it might be pretty interesting. Also, I'm starting to suspect I'm developing an appreciation for pixel art. How did this happen?! 0.o I admit I used to be one of those people who would usually not consider a game if it had pixel art - I have no nostalgia for retro graphics and I even hesitated over buying Stardew Valley for ages because of this. It's not every game, but more and more often lately I see videos of games using pixel art that I think actually look quite beautiful. This is one of those games.

I bought the collectors edition the second it became available. I'd been watching this one long before release. I knew it was gonna be an amazing game. The soundtrack is incredible. Been listening to it a lot on my way home from work. If anyone has UA-cam music its on there as well as pretty much every video game soundtrack. At least everything I've searched for has been there. It's pretty awesome.

Game is so good i'm gonna rebuy this for the switch. Was interesting messing with this for a few years with early beta and having to stop and wait for updates but should be more fun playing start to finish.
Strictly Limited games has a Switch physical edition on pre order. I ordered as soon as i found out. Played this on PC a while back and love it! I just watched the end of the video and see that you mentioned the physical edition, I will leave my comment for those that may not watch that far in.
Ok, so i have playded Crosscode since the beta release and id like to say that the review you made was amazing. I'd like to add to this a bit by saying that its zelda inspiration in the dungeons can feel really similar to a link to the past. The combat is meant to be tough as you wont be carried by one of the simpler classes like the pentafist but rather you are actually playing with the subjectively hardest class but the difficulty slider is a nice addition for those who aren't able to keep up with its face paced combat. I liked how you said that there was a strategic element to the games and i can so so as well however the break mechanics are more about how to optimally break your opponent by knowing their attack patterns. I think that The trading aspect of the game was actually pretty neat however i wondered if you knew that if you hit enough bushes you could unlock them in the botany menu allowing you to see what resources they drop with the harder it is to get the higher quality the resources. I don't think it might be possible to get that consistent 60 fps without taking away the vibrancy from the towns its more of a switch problem and less of a game problem all in all this review was amazing and you have earned yourself a like a sub a bell rung.
Do some parts of the dungeons have randomly generated segments? I'm curious about the level of replayability. I'll probably buy it either way but I have 300+ hours in Crypt of the Necrodancer and I wanted to get my hands on something fresh that I could still put time into
Fantastic review..and i will be picking this up day 1 , right up my alley. Some games you can just tell they are a 'proper' game cant you... and this game has got that feel in bucket loads.
I ordered the collectors edition a couple weeks back, only 2000 switch editions available seems crazy low for such an excellent game. The only thing i was concerned about was how it handled with a controller over mouse and keyboard and how it ran, im feeling relieved and am excited to recieve and finally play it. When lrg does their direct next week i hope they reveal duke nukem, your review was excellent and im hoping for a physical. Your awesome keep up the top quality content!!

Wait, flying hedgehags? 10:15 ? I’m near the end of the game for the PC version, with almost 100% quest completion (missing like, 2 optional quests which I find especially difficult) but I don’t think I ever saw that! Is that from the switch specific quest?
The gripes you had with the trading system are valid, but they are alleviated by the Records tab, which has an option to show trades you have encountered before and the monster fibula+botanics which show item drops
Really love this game on the PC when it first came out and was happy to see it finally make it to switch. Little lag issues in some areas, but still handles great.
Waited months for this... couldn't wait anymore and got it for pc on a sale. I finish it after 40+ hours of epic gameplay and FINALLY it arrives on switch...

I bought this on a whim a few years ago on Steam and I was so pleasantly surprised. This is a really special game with a unique battle system, good story, and fun exploration all combined to play like a single player MMO.

Some of those songs would get stuck in my head the same way old RPG songs would but I have to admit I didn't fully appreciate it in my first play through. I might have to pick this up again for the switch.

I have the game on PC and it's so good. All version have a optional exclusivity dungeon (PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox). Also they will add more content soon (epilogue and Rhombus Square the biggest city will have more feature).
I've just played a bit further after the tutorial (which was a fantastic tutorial imo) and honestly the game seems freaking amazing. Fun puzzles, great combat and amazing music so far!
I feel it needs to be pointed out that the quests are absolutely not "kill" and "fetch", maybe 10% of them consists of that standard MMO stuff, the rest has interesting plotlines, unique gameplay mechanics, puzzles, etc.
I really hope they fix all the SWITCH issues! i bought this on release and i would like to have a smoother experience! absolutly worth the €20 (even better when they fix the fps/sound/menu lag issues)
For the physical release they are saying October/November... Are they going to allow a digital download until then? That's a huge wait if you want to get a physical copy.

PS4 player here. Fun game there too. They're really working hard on making sure it runs well on all platforms, and slowly rolling out all the enhancements the PC version got over the years. Loved this story, and the character. The way the gameplay expanded was fun too, going from four basic actions, to allowing alterations to those, and the stat and skill buffs equipment gives allowing for so many play styles. Oh, and that ending. Gods, the final boss is epic, the scenes afterwards chilling, triumphant, sad, and all the other things mixed in in all the right ways. Brings back fond memories of SNES era's best RPGs for that alone.
This game deserves Hollow Knight levels of fame, it's so good.

I saw this game coming to Steam a year or two ago thinking "this will be perfect on the Switch" as it looks like a futuristic classic Zelda game.
Glad it got ported over.

@@ineednochannelyoutube5384 Closer, Diablo to me is more dungeon crawler along with magicka. Throw in some infuriating ass puzzles and you're on the right track. Just spent way too long getting the angle just right on this hermit house puzzle. One of the only gripes I have with this game, and the map. The map is complete trash. Whoever thought that was a good design choice needs to be shot.
@@ineednochannelyoutube5384 If I had to compare it to a game it would be something like brain lord on the snes. God that game had long ass dungeons and some serious puzzles..great game though. The jumping in it waaaas ass though and there are some areas that rely heavily on jumping. A game that's less on the puzzle aspect I'd compare it to also on snes is soul blazer. Great games.
It's finally here! Finally finally! I'm so happy it's got a release date for Switch! Played it on Game Pass and adored it. Can't wait to pick it up and enjoy it all over again!

I just want to mention one fun little detail I love about this game full of other fun little details I love: Lea's level up animation is borrowed straight from the beautiful and oft-overlooked SNES game Terranigma.
I have BEEEEEN waiting for this game ever since it was announced it was coming over in 2018. You have no idea how amped I am its finally here!!

This is one of my favorite games and I hope Nintendo hypes this more. It's exactly what the switch need more of. CrossCode should please old school fans of SNES action RPGs while appealing to new players that want modern mechanics.

It’s like a mix of DBZ legacy of goku 2, Zelda, and Chrono Trigger. Extremely underrated.
To whoever sees this, the game is great amazing, but I truly suggest you to buy it on pc or console, so far the it's switch engine isnt great and the game is laggy so I recommend it on pc or console.
I've said this too many times now but I'll say it again because it needs to be said. This game isn't hugely popular, but it sure as hell is a cult classic. Get in on it, try the demo. I beat the game and while not a total completionist, it was rewarding and engaging and it took me about 85 hours, and New Game+ is there too and even has some extra features and bonus dialogue that makes the game even more amusing after its done giving you frustration and catharsis, some serious ethical questions to consider and characters you can't help but feel happy to have met.
SO? GO CHILD! STOP WAITING TO SEE IF IT IS OR ISNT FOR YOU AND TRY IT!

They released a patch today that noticably increased performance on my end!
Despite owning a copy on Steam, I preordered a physical copy for the Switch the day it was announced so that I'll be able to play this game on-the-go (not that, at the moment, there's any reason to go anywhere because pandemic). CrossCode is perhaps my favorite game of the 21st century so far, taking many elements of all my favorite games and utilizing them to great effect. The story is so endearing, the characters delightful, gameplay feels fluid and natural (on a controller at least), and the artistic structure of the visuals and the audio are terrific. Aside from minor complaints concerning visual conveyance and some late-game puzzle difficulty that just isn't fun for me, I love this game. It ain't perfect, but oh boy do I not care. This game is amazing. Can't wait to replay it for the umpteenth time, but on the Switch. I'll be on the lookout for the inconsistent framerate though, so thanks for the heads up there.

I was not expecting to add this game to my wishlist, but here I go. It looks great! Even the story sounds like it might be pretty interesting. Also, I'm starting to suspect I'm developing an appreciation for pixel art. How did this happen?! 0.o I admit I used to be one of those people who would usually not consider a game if it had pixel art - I have no nostalgia for retro graphics and I even hesitated over buying Stardew Valley for ages because of this. It's not every game, but more and more often lately I see videos of games using pixel art that I think actually look quite beautiful. This is one of those games.

I bought the collectors edition the second it became available. I'd been watching this one long before release. I knew it was gonna be an amazing game. The soundtrack is incredible. Been listening to it a lot on my way home from work. If anyone has UA-cam music its on there as well as pretty much every video game soundtrack. At least everything I've searched for has been there. It's pretty awesome.

Game is so good i'm gonna rebuy this for the switch. Was interesting messing with this for a few years with early beta and having to stop and wait for updates but should be more fun playing start to finish.

Strictly Limited games has a Switch physical edition on pre order. I ordered as soon as i found out. Played this on PC a while back and love it! I just watched the end of the video and see that you mentioned the physical edition, I will leave my comment for those that may not watch that far in.

Ok, so i have playded Crosscode since the beta release and id like to say that the review you made was amazing. I'd like to add to this a bit by saying that its zelda inspiration in the dungeons can feel really similar to a link to the past. The combat is meant to be tough as you wont be carried by one of the simpler classes like the pentafist but rather you are actually playing with the subjectively hardest class but the difficulty slider is a nice addition for those who aren't able to keep up with its face paced combat. I liked how you said that there was a strategic element to the games and i can so so as well however the break mechanics are more about how to optimally break your opponent by knowing their attack patterns. I think that The trading aspect of the game was actually pretty neat however i wondered if you knew that if you hit enough bushes you could unlock them in the botany menu allowing you to see what resources they drop with the harder it is to get the higher quality the resources. I don't think it might be possible to get that consistent 60 fps without taking away the vibrancy from the towns its more of a switch problem and less of a game problem all in all this review was amazing and you have earned yourself a like a sub a bell rung.

Do some parts of the dungeons have randomly generated segments? I'm curious about the level of replayability. I'll probably buy it either way but I have 300+ hours in Crypt of the Necrodancer and I wanted to get my hands on something fresh that I could still put time into

I ordered the collectors edition a couple weeks back, only 2000 switch editions available seems crazy low for such an excellent game. The only thing i was concerned about was how it handled with a controller over mouse and keyboard and how it ran, im feeling relieved and am excited to recieve and finally play it. When lrg does their direct next week i hope they reveal duke nukem, your review was excellent and im hoping for a physical. Your awesome keep up the top quality content!!

Wait, flying hedgehags? 10:15 ? I’m near the end of the game for the PC version, with almost 100% quest completion (missing like, 2 optional quests which I find especially difficult) but I don’t think I ever saw that! Is that from the switch specific quest?

The gripes you had with the trading system are valid, but they are alleviated by the Records tab, which has an option to show trades you have encountered before and the monster fibula+botanics which show item drops
Really love this game on the PC when it first came out and was happy to see it finally make it to switch. Little lag issues in some areas, but still handles great.

I bought this on a whim a few years ago on Steam and I was so pleasantly surprised. This is a really special game with a unique battle system, good story, and fun exploration all combined to play like a single player MMO.

Some of those songs would get stuck in my head the same way old RPG songs would but I have to admit I didn't fully appreciate it in my first play through. I might have to pick this up again for the switch.

I have the game on PC and it's so good. All version have a optional exclusivity dungeon (PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox). Also they will add more content soon (epilogue and Rhombus Square the biggest city will have more feature).

I've just played a bit further after the tutorial (which was a fantastic tutorial imo) and honestly the game seems freaking amazing. Fun puzzles, great combat and amazing music so far!

I feel it needs to be pointed out that the quests are absolutely not "kill" and "fetch", maybe 10% of them consists of that standard MMO stuff, the rest has interesting plotlines, unique gameplay mechanics, puzzles, etc.
Not to mention, eaxh questline has a boss at its end.
I really hope they fix all the SWITCH issues! i bought this on release and i would like to have a smoother experience!
