This video is perfect. Your skating is so much fun and your words and points are wise and very helpful. Really cool how you expanded beyond deck size. I loved every minute, thanks, bro!
Yeah I really think I like my 8.45" and 8.5" boards best, compared to a 7.6" and 8.0". The 8.5" Santa Cruz Everslick is a pretty heavy deck for me, but it's steeper concave and steep tail/nose actually makes it somehow nicer to ride. It flips fine, even when I'm a total beginner. I kind of can double flip the Andy Anderson deck too, even when I can't land 'em. So the flatness doesn't bother me at all. I _definitely_ recommend trying out different trucks. For me it was a world a difference having Tensor Mag Light trucks on 'em, instead of heavier Venture trucks. It rides a lot different now, even when I probably can't pop as high as I used to before, as the Tensor Mag Light trucks are low trucks. I might experiment with high trucks that are lightweight sometime on the Andy board (if it survives that long).
Really good video about how you size (height and weight) make a big difference in how your skateboarding is going to "feel". How the wheelbase and the truck geometry can affect how your going to "feel" your skateboard. I have also noticed with bushing, as a heavier guy I need really hard bushing because I would regularly destroy the medium bushing that came with my trucks. Also getting taller trucks (with a riser) really helped reducing the wheel bite.
first off I wanna say, I´m a beginner, I skate 3 months now and I´m 1.95 tall, 165 pounds. At first I thought my board couldnt be big enough for me, but now I really think that you will learn on any board, doesnt matter which size. its so much fun trying out new stuff: I got my very first board 3 months ago and learned alot on it. its 8.38 with steep concave and 14.20 wheelbase. just recently I stood on someones elses 8 with low concave and it actually felt pretty good, small, but very agile and super easy to pop. I´m now thinking about buying a 8.1 and an 8.5 just to try them both and see what sticks. its very easy for me to lose myself in technicalities, happens all the time, if I´m not worrying about the width or the length, I´m probably thinking about the concave, or the size of my trucks and wheels ... that can be fun, but it gets exhausting quickly, so remember to just go out and skate on whatever board you can get your hands on!
update: I bought myself an 8 and it feels amazing, I have less space for my feet, but the small size and light weight make it very responsive and easy to turn, I love it.
I started on the Anderson deck last year the 8.45 though. Absolutely love it. I have tried other normal skateboards since they just didn't feel as fun. Just got an 8.75 shall see how that goes. Im only 5ft 6 😳
With the Andy Anderson board I took a page out of the Michael Relevant playbook and put Thunder 161s on it. My ideal wheel with it was the 54mm Spitfire Lock-ins. Feels so good on my feet. Also this video is super super helpful. I like how height and weight are discussed.
I didn't like the Anderson Deck 😕 I even got some new Ace Classic 55s(9"axle) with 54mm Snot wheels for it and everything lined up perfectly. I couldn't take that shape! Popsicle For Life!

Started skating again late in life and followed the advice of the SF tricksters and to a 7.75 with matched trucks. Finding it hard to get my groove and would like to know if skating wide is easier for basics.
@@sqweed653 The first ollie is just one of those things - it's hard because the motion is just very clean. The width shouldn't stop you there. But it helps you land when you're shoving, flipping, moving etc.
the typical board or "industry standard" for a 6' (72") guy is 8x32. 32" is based on an inseam of 32"... for every 1" of board height, that's 2.25" of person. the equivalent of that same body ratio to board for a 5'5" guy like myself with a 29" inseam is a 29.3" long deck. that basically means that in order to have the same exact leverage that a 6' tall guy can get out of a 8x32 where they're able to slide the front foot up with minimal effort to cradle into the nose for the easy pop, i'd need a 29.3" deck. yeah shorter guys can still skate the same size boards and we've been doing it the entire time, but there's literally a ton more effort required because the industry doesn't support this sizing. in fact the industry seems to believe it doesn't matter (ccs no longer even lists the lengths on decks), which is stupid considering the nose is angled up specifically to have your front foot slide, grab, and lift up. what size board should you ride? whatever width fits your shoe size best and divide your height in inches by 2.25 to get your length. the industry needs to change. we need more decks in the 30" length. as for wheelbase, set it to how you like your pop.
Interesting perspective that I've never heard about. If that is the case wouldn't it depend what type of terrain you ride. I just bought a Steve Caballero board that is 31.9" based on your math equation it seems for Cabs height he would need a board length of 27.55". If you could further explain your numbers and show some skating before and after with the adjustment I would be curious. I know wheelbase plays a huge role in how heavy or light a board will feel. But now I'm curious about overall board length.
@Michael Relevant it's been a very long time since my other comment, and yeah a lot has changed. A lot taller, bigger shoe size and I now skate a 8.25 instead of my 8.0 deck which I was using when I made the comment. This video still helped though, thanks.
Im size 10 us men and i've been riding an 8,50 and im thinking about going a size down. I cant really ollie that high because the board is to heavy and its really hard to spin and shove the board. Should i get an size 8.
Hey, great video man. I’m thinking of starting to skate again. I’m 14 soon 15 and I have men shoe size 11.5. What board do you think would fit me for park and flat riding but also to jump stairs?
I’m 42 just started over again skating again after my teenage years. Got myself a revive 8” deck and I think I’m going to try 8.25” for my next deck. I want to have a good kick/pop higher Ollie and good size for tail and nose slide. What deck do you recommend?
Good on you bro. I’m 33 and got back into 2 weeks ago after 15 years. Going to my local skatepark brings back all the good times. I’m playing it safe and taking it one day at a time. Now will not be a great time to go to hospital if you know what I mean.
Ava Martin Good for you! If you’re buying from local shop just ask them what size is good for 8.25. Indy thunder are two main brands for trucks. My first 8 inch board got stage 11 independent hollow it’s really light but the truck is so narrow it’s harder for grind tricks. The one I’m having now for 8.25 deck is thunder 148 I believe. Double check with the place you’re buying from online or local shop make sure it fits! Have fun skating :)
@Yea Yea i wouldn’t go too big, 7.75 would be ideal i feel like. if you have a local skate shop you can stand on boards to see which one you prefer tho
I used to skate a little bit years ago and want to get back into it and I'm pretty small (5'6" with short legs) but pretty heavy and just wanna ride/blast around on questionable surfaces and I'm not really sure what kinda board is best for that 😅 🤷♂️
I'm 5'6 and hella skinny, but from my experience 8.5-9 is really nice and stable, especially 9+ is very stable but because of our height 9+ might start to feel boat- ish; but I always feel confident on those wider decks
@@shotaaa964 I see I see, I think my original board from way back was only an 8 and super flat but still felt kinda small, what kinda trucks would you need for an 8.5? I don't wanna go too huge and make a battering ram out of it lol
@@shotaaa964 ok yeah, that seems reasonable any bigger than that I think is gonna get hefty and I used to bomb the driveway at school on a banana board and frankly I don't know how I didn't die 😅
If you wanna just cruise and skate on rough ground I reccomend getting softer wheels and the bigger the wheel the easier it goes over rough ground. Wheel hardness is measured in durometer so 99-101a is pretty hard and mainly for skate parks and smooth ground. If you get some 78a wheels or under 90a you should be able to cruise nice and smooth on crusty ground😊
I’m 13 and I’m 5’2 or 5’3 and I just ordered a board and it was a 8.5 I didn’t think it would be so big. But is it still easy to ride on, because my shoe size is like a 6/7???? Help
I'm 5'11, and 300 pounds. But for the life of me, I cannot skate anything above an 8. both my cruiser and my trick board are both an 8 inch deck. I've tried 8.25 and 8.5, and I just can't. I feel less in control the more of my foot is on the board.
I’m 6’5 200lbs and love skating. I used to skate a 7.75 as a teen, but now I’m tryna get back into with an 8. I wanna get a big board but idk what to do :(
i havent skated consistently in over 15 years. Im getting back into it but now I weigh 215 lbs, im 6’3, and wear size 14. i used to be around 7.5 when i was little. what size should i go for now.
@@chookscratch . I'm 6'2 215 , we basically have the same build haven't skated in almost 20yrs. Would appreciate if you could lend me a suggestion of what you got.
Hey man love the video! Just getting into skating at 22 and curious what size board would be best. I’m thinking a big board being my 6’3 and have a size 13 shoe. Used to be 220 now about 160 so wanna give skating a shot. I’m looking more for cruising and then possible tricks once I’m comfortable. Any recommendations you have for big boards would be greatly appreciated.
Hey man, I thought I'd weigh in here because I've just started skating again at 28 and I'm 6"4 with a size 11 shoe. When I skated properly (12 years ago for around 6 years), I skated anything between 7.75 and 8.0. I was a little shorter (and younger) back then, but I just got myself an 8.0 inch setup anyway and I've had nothing but regret since. My riding/basic tricks have come along a lot in the last three weeks, but I really wish I had bought a 8.375 - 8.5 board because I tried an 8.5 and it felt so much more comfortable whilst still being able to flip. If you want to learn fliptricks eventually, I would avoid anything over 8.5 personally. I would also invest in a sturdy set of trucks like Independent 149s (if you get a deck between 8.25 and 8.75). I used to ride indies for years in my teens and never had any trouble. The tensor alloy trucks im skating now don't seem as consistent in turning and go a bit crazy at high speed.

8 1/2 normal size? I would have to disagree. I move up to an 8 when skating ramps, but never felt the need to go bigger. Its personal preference
They're the distance between your 2 bottom hardware bolts, the type of truck you have can make it wider or shorter. Ben Degros has a 4 part video going into depth explaining this
Whatever board you like. I'm 5 ft 6, but I love big 10.0 old school decks. There is no such thing as a correct size board it's just you're preference. I've seen big dudes skate 7.75 decks and I've seen small dudes like kader sylla for example skating 8.75-9.0 decks. You can do any style of skating with any size deck but keep in mind the bigger the deck the harder it is to do really technical tricks on. Hey, great video man.
I’m thinking of starting to skate again. I’m 14 soon 15 and I have men shoe size 11.5. What board do you think would fit me for park and flat riding but also to jump stairs?
When you turn 15 cause I also turn 15 soon
No risers on the Andy Anderson with 60mm?
I’m 42 just started over again skating again after my teenage years. Got myself a revive 8” deck and I think I’m going to try 8.25” for my next deck. I want to have a good kick/pop higher Ollie and good size for tail and nose slide. What deck do you recommend?
Good on you bro. I’m 33 and got back into 2 weeks ago after 15 years. Going to my local skatepark brings back all the good times. I’m playing it safe and taking it one day at a time. Now will not be a great time to go to hospital if you know what I mean.
Go for an 8.125. It's a nice sweet spot
Clay _ thank you Clay I got myself a 8.25” deck and new trucks too. But I think I’m just started to get used to 8 inch board :)
Alston Ke hey I’m starting to skate and I’m not sure what size truck I should get for my 8.25 board. Could you recommend a size for me to get please?
Ava Martin Good for you! If you’re buying from local shop just ask them what size is good for 8.25. Indy thunder are two main brands for trucks. My first 8 inch board got stage 11 independent hollow it’s really light but the truck is so narrow it’s harder for grind tricks. The one I’m having now for 8.25 deck is thunder 148 I believe. Double check with the place you’re buying from online or local shop make sure it fits! Have fun skating :)
Best info I’ve found on board sizes thanks
Andy deck has twin tails
I’m 5’1 and wear size 5 shoes, any help in what size deck I should get?
A 7.75-8 would be just right
I'm also around 4'11-5'2 and I wear a size 3 in shoes. Also I'm a little skinny so what size would u think is good?
@Yea Yea i wouldn’t go too big, 7.75 would be ideal i feel like. if you have a local skate shop you can stand on boards to see which one you prefer tho
@Yea Yea you wouldn’t want a board that’s too wide for your feet
im 5’2, 107lb and my shoe size is US 7 what size board would you recommend?
7.5 or 7.75
I used to skate a little bit years ago and want to get back into it and I'm pretty small (5'6" with short legs) but pretty heavy and just wanna ride/blast around on questionable surfaces and I'm not really sure what kinda board is best for that 😅 🤷♂️
I'm 5'6 and hella skinny, but from my experience 8.5-9 is really nice and stable, especially 9+ is very stable but because of our height 9+ might start to feel boat- ish; but I always feel confident on those wider decks
@@shotaaa964 I see I see, I think my original board from way back was only an 8 and super flat but still felt kinda small, what kinda trucks would you need for an 8.5? I don't wanna go too huge and make a battering ram out of it lol
NathanB417 I use Indy 149s on mine and I love them, they don't feel too bulky to me and I've bombed a few hills on them too but nothing super crazy
I`m 5.9ft tall, shoe size 9.5, is it 8.0" board fit to me, or 7.75 would be better?
amazing video man, thank you!
I'm 5'4 and I got small feet like 38 or 8 , what size should I get?
Im 5'3 and feet size 35-36😭
I’m 315lbs and 6’2 in a half with a size 13 shoe what size do you think I should ride cause I got a creature stump 9.0 with a 14.25 wheelbase
I wanna get a big board but idk what to do :(
I’d go bigger than that…..
@@MichaelRelevant I’m considering 9 inch after your video
I was looking for some trucks that could turn smooth so I can use my skateboard as a nice cruiser board, wich brand would you recomend?
I’m on Indy’s right now they turn great.
Do ppl actually use risers ?
I skate 8 inch deck, im about 5'11, is it how much harder to flip bigger boards
i havent skated consistently in over 15 years. Im getting back into it but now I weigh 215 lbs, im 6’3, and wear size 14. i used to be around 7.5 when i was little. what size should i go for now.
Something huge 9 or bigger.
I'm 6'1 and size 14. I went 9 wide. It feels the right width but my board is only 30 inches long and feels short
@@chookscratch . I'm 6'2 215 , we basically have the same build haven't skated in almost 20yrs. Would appreciate if you could lend me a suggestion of what you got.
im 5'3 118 pound and size 9 shoe what size should i get
Hey man love the video!
Thanks for info man, that is gonna help a ton for picking a board
@@kalebstout7673 No worries at all. If you want any advice on which board to get, feel free to send me a message

I want to get into skating and I wanna know if zumiez is a good place to get a skateboard or if I should do online like skate warehouse? Also I am 5ft 6 and wear an 8.5 shoe what size should I get. I was thinking an 8 based on a couple of things I’ve seen
SAME !! pls let me know what size you got or where you got it. i’m also 5ft 6 and wear an 8.5
Either are fine. Zumiez is usually a little more expensive. I recommend skate warehouse or evo.com
I’m around 5”9 and I’m getting a 8.25 is that a good size?
Im same as you, 5'96. If youre on the heavier side maybe u shld try 8.25, Im 56 kg and kinda light. I tried Decathlon 8.25 skateboard and it felt ok at first, abit heavy tho. I quit skating for a few months and hoped on recently, felt like a shackle. Changing to 7.75-8 soon. Let me know if things go well for u
This was really helpful

7.5 to 8.25. it s all about personal preference

probably 7.5

I'm 5 foot 5 should I get a 7.75 skateboard
Just go to the skate shop and try to stand on a few see how feel I went with 8.25 bc I am 6"0 wear a size 12
Im like 5.6 ft and i skate 8.5 is that like normal or good?
I would recommend a 8 or 8.25 for your size. Also if you skate more vert than bigger the better, if you like flip tricks tech tricks then go smaller. Im 6’1 I ride a 8.5 and it feels just right.
@izzi the French id say 7.75 or 8 bc you are a little young and 8.5 feels heavy so it would be harder to learn.
@izzi the French id recommend skating smaller boards and working ur way up to a 8.25 or 8.5

@@damienb99 Hopefully we could get our boards soon! Also watching a few videos I noticed that the board size is at least an inch smaller. My feet are 8 inches and I’m thinking on getting a 7.75. I think it depends more on shoe size rather than height. Where are you planning to get your skateboard from?
@@somemusician3832 the problem is, finding a 7.75 board is very difficult in my country. here all skateshop sells 8.0 boards more than the others. Also my feet are 6.5

Okay so I bought an 31 inch and it looked so long and not regular so which height or whatever it is should it get thankssss (I want it to look the right size a regular one)
That's pretty average. Most boards are around that length. Should be fine.

a size 8.5 what size truck should I get

The green giant is one of my favorite boards.
8 1/2 normal size? I would have to disagree. There are many factors...weight and size being one of them, or if you want to do more flatland...7.75 has been the norm for me when skating street as the board flips so easy. I move up to an 8 when skating ramps, but never felt the need to go bigger. Its personal preference
Are you over 6 foot? I was skating a 10.75 at the time but now I’m skating an 8”.

Probably something smaller maybe 7.75.
“Normal shape”
3:15 "longer wheel base" just means wider trucks, right?
They're the distance between your 2 bottom hardware bolts, the type of truck you have can make it wider or shorter. Ben Degros has a 4 part video going into depth explaining this
I'm 5'5 and I've never skated before.. which would be best?
I drink steroids, and feeling is good.

Just pick a board you think looks cool and play around with different sizes you will get a feel of what you like
