I skated 7.5 & 7.75 for the majority of my life, I recently was gifted trucks for an 8.3 deck. The 8.3 is fun and I feel comfortable jumping down stairs and gaps. Size 11 shoe ,10.5 in wide sizes. I still skate my seven and three quarters board

*When i first start skating, i used to 7.75. After i can do all the basic trick, i start feeling uncomfortable with my board size because sometimes i cannot land obstacle tricks when i try do combo tricks, so then i change up to size 8. After that, i felt more comfortable to do tricks at obstacle or rail with combo tricks like flip, shuvit or body varial. After 5years at skating, i want to challenge myself to change my board size to 8.25. I feel difficult at first to do flip tricks, after i found out how to do it, it makes all easier now. And that’s how my board size i comfortable riding now*

Maybe do a video about the board model? I think these basic tutorials can be found everywhere. But we could really use insight information about the board shapes and stuff, like what is a kicker tail, or how the concave shape affects, or what kind of nose/tail shapes there are and how the affect to running or doing tricks, etc.

  • @insanogeddon

    6+ cruising
    7.5+ tricks
    8.375+ stairs
    8.5+ bowls
9+ ramps and now surf skates
The smaller the board you learn things on the more precise and better technique you will have. So if you want a trick on lock long term go small enough it challenges you.
Fingers of flat between tail and bolt holes = 3 if tall, 2 norm, 1 short (be truthful about your height or you will get nailed more). Basically the actual bigger person = more fingers to flat and flatter tail as have the leverage and weight. If you are under 32 inch inseam you need a steeper tail and less fingers of flat. Further you need the room between your legs to flip board around so want a shorter board unless you like doing the splits and landing on your junk.
After you get one size/shape down try all to finesse things you missed because learning is the gap inbetween.
Starting get a twin tail people quote Schmidt "want a knife with 2 blade or one" but EVERYONE prefers a knife that is fast to deploy, needs no thought to put to task, lasts longer .. there is a reason multi blade old timer knives that need thought to deploy, are slow, degrade faster are NOBODYS EDC unless the laws where they are force it on them. Starting you want less thinking and more practice

These videos are interesting, but it does make me wonder. If you were going to make a full complete board to give to a beginner, and you did not know specifically who it would be yet, how would you decide what to use? I've seen you guys give away random stuff to random people all the time at parks, but I'm curious what you might consider the most "default" or standard sort of middle of the road setup. Assuming you have all options available, what size board/wheels/etc seems like the safest bet or most widely useful? My first thought would be to just split the difference and pick everything down the middle, but you guys might have more info about what's the most popular in general in terms of your own sales or just what's usually at shops. As a person who doesn't skate but watches you guys a ton, I'm curious. We have some boards where I work, but I don't really want to use Kryptonics as evidence haha

I took a break for awhile and used to skate 8.25 then o went up to 8.38 kind of liked it but lost some tricks. Went to a 8.125 element squared which is their old school shape and I’ve never been so consistent it feels great and might order a few more I’m glad I went down the size I just need to use low trucks or the board feels horrible. Imo it’s not about shoe size but leg strength. If you feel your not being consistent you might need less weight on the board it give you more time to respond to the board.
