Before asking any specific truck/deck compatibility questions, please reference the chart at 0:50 Also, we recommend keeping your trucks within 1/4 inch (0.25) of the deck width. I have a 8.125 what size trucks should I skate? I like only venture thunder and Indy’s. But I’m thinking ventures… for ventures I want highs. What truck size should I skate?
🤣😂 ...and y'all going to research AFTER you make an uneducated decision. Hopefully you remember this for everything moving forward in life. The quality of your life desperately depends on it.
* * THANK YOU * * as a new skater at 35 , not knowing company / brand names.. this video was a life saver ! i am in the process of building my first board and google seems to be very bias etc. thanks for this video !
The TRUE reason for having the bolt switch is so that when you grind allot, you NEVER make the bolt smooth by wearing it out, hence you wont be able to adjust it anymore if so. So by having the bolt flipped and using and "allen" key to adjust trucks, you never have to worry about that.
There’s also the decision of which truck has their axle outward or inward because depending on where your axle is, it’ll affect how your truck turns and how your board pops.
I think this had alot to do as i skated when i was younger. I never considered my truck size and i always felt like I had balance issues. Id really like to get another setup again one day with this way more in mind.
However the problem with inverted king pins is if you skate really rough spots or just skate a lot, the kingpin can start to rattle off and make your trucks looser.
Could i run stage 11 forged hallow standard149 indys on an 8.25 deathwish deck with 52mm spitfire formula 4 99a tablets and bones red bearing's?? Tactics??? Help me out
Hello all. I have bought the regular complete and put there longboard wheels. I will not learning tricks, I need it just for riding on the streets. Everything is ok, tell more - I am very glad how it looks like now. But need to up deck, I have already install two riser pads 1/8 + 1/4 , but more high ... Now an idea to install other trucks, maybe from cruiser or longboard. Can anybody give an advice? Thanks in advance!
What would you recommend for a new skater into flip tricks and grinds? Definitely want something that will be durable and also give me a good pop for Ollie’s to whatever im trying to grind. Thinking small truck with the inverted pin and a riser to not get wheel bite?
For the brand, you can't go wrong with any of the popular brands like Independent, Thunder, ACE, Slappy, Venture, etc. Just make sure get the correct size to match your deck width. I wouldn't worry about getting the lightest or the strongest truck since you're just starting out. Inverted kingpins are neat because you won't snag your kingpin on whatever you're grinding. As for risers, that's going to depend on the size of your wheels, how loose you like your trucks, your body weight, etc. You could totally get the risers and try skating with and without them to see what feels better. Have fun on your skateboarding adventures! - Tim
Would it be possible to frankenstein fit some trucks with the independent 6-hole plates? I am trying to recreate the look of my childhood deck (powell peralta reissue) and I can't afford the new old stock gullwings on ebay!
You could probably do it, but I have no idea how well it will skate. The angles on the different brands' baseplates and pivots is all different, so I don't know how well the various combos of trucks will fit together. But the only way to find out is to try it! If you do create some kind of franken-truck monstrosity, let us know how well it works! 🤣🛹🙌 - Tim
Hi how are you buddy ? I think I made a mistake and I bought a pair of ace trucks blue ones and a year later I got a kalis mightnight club board 8.06” :( so can those trucks fit it ? Or what’s the best truck for that Board ???
The ACE trucks that you have could still work on your new board. Do you know what size the ACE trucks are? As long as they aren't drastically different in axle/deck width, then they should work fine. - Tim
Depends on what brand you want to get. There's a chart in this video right at 0:50 that shows the proper truck/board size combos according to each brand. I hope that helps! - Tim
I have a question so i got independent trucks and I was checking but they dont have like the number if the size I just know that they are 8 inches so can u please tell me what size is that please like ro change it to the size of independent?
i'm considering using those for my first ever set up, i'm a beginner and have no idea what i'm doing. Any wheels you can recommend? i'm lookin for a cruiser set up
You can definitely mount it, but it's not ideal. The trucks being a 1/2 inch smaller will give the board different pressure points for tricks and make the board feel and skate differently. But if you want to rock 8.0 tucks on an 8.5 deck, then go for it! 👍🛹 - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop ok thank you it’s because I forgot to get new trucks when I went for a new board so might as well keep rocking the ones I’m used to :)
@@tacticsboardshop Thanks for replying but what if I would get Ricta Cloud 92A a very wide wheel would that make it push the truck a bit further making a 8 inch truck flush with a 8.25 board? I mean there is no way to know than to spend the money. I'm worry if I get a 144 truck with those ricta cloud that the wheel would stick out more? or a wheel doesn't make much difference?
Nah, the difference in height is only a few millimeters and isn't going to make a significant enough difference in your center of gravity to be noticeable. - Tim 🛹👍
You can definitely mount them, but it's not the ideal match up. Since the trucks are 0.375 inches bigger than the board, the wheels will stick out on the sides a bit. But if it's all that's available then just go for it. 👍
Yes, the Ace AF1 77 and the 80 would both work on a 9.7 deck. The 77 would be slightly narrower than the deck, and the 80 would be slightly wider than the deck. Cheers! - Tim
The Indy 129's (7.6 axle) are gonna be a little small for an 8.0 deck. 139's will fit properly, but if the 129's are all you got, you can make it work. - Tim
It's said in the video. Mid trucks faster pop and response. High trucks, slower pop as the contact point requires a higher pop but you can get a higher overall pop and higher Ollie.

Thanks for that chart! Totally snapped a pic of that.
Also if you have an old school deck with the old hole pattern, you can just take a pencil or marker and mark the hole so you can drill it.
I wish Ace would complete their line-up with a 10" Model 88. I'd swap my Indy 215s out in a second!
thunder made a 10 inch truck!
Coming from the future, Ace finally made em but they’re size 80, not 88 😅
