Loved him for 30+ years and he has so many songs that should have been released on radio. Frankly he's not Journey, he's Steve Perry. Journey was a big part of his career, but once he had more say going forward his voice and creativity showed even more on his solo albums. Yes, I do believe Steve was the best singer for Journey. But he needed to break and grow on his own. I'm so glad he came back to music. Thank you Kellie for making him promise he would. ❤

Still discovering Steve Perry….. each song is a revelation. No wonder he is beloved after so many years. He is truly a marvel. He was the reason it seems to me why Journey became such a success. He put everything he had into his vocals, his stage presence, his input into each song, I’m sure without his musical instincts those hit songs would not have had the magic that happened, and the longevity they have. Journey under appreciated his genius and his voice, working him too hard. A voice is a part of the singer, not an instrument to be set aside. It’s temperamental and easily affected by various influences. Singing the difficult songs continuously weeks on end year after year it’s amazing it held up for as long as it did not to mention the enormous emotional toll touring took. Steve Perry survived thank goodness and deserves the adulation but also privacy when he lives his private life.
If I was a singer I would only have one mentor, idol, influence & inspiration & that would be the one & only Steve Perry. Steve Perry has one of the most beautiful voices ever. Once you hear him sing you just can't help but fall in love with him, he captures your heart.

He sounds great and looks great, I loved his hair here! No one can touch his vocals, by far the best vocalist of this era. You can tell he feels every single word he sings, and makes us feel it as well, not too many people can sing like this. And remember there was no auto-tune then!! He was a natural talent that we rarely see. Bless you Steve!
Just thought I would point out that auto-tune when used for vocal correction robs the voice of its soul. Watching Empire was difficult because all the singers were capable, and didn’t need autotune, but they threw it on almost every song and it ruined them. They probably did it to reduce the number of takes necessary to get the recordings done… but autotune does not make voices sound better. I do like it when it’s used for obvious style… the robo sound is cool. But minor tweaking with it kills voices. Having said all that… Perry was his own style… you’d never sully it with autotuning it anywhere, even for added style. It would be like ordering wagyu and putting A1 sauce on it for extra zing… hell no!

30 years ago my brother lost his 6-month-old son Cameron. Cammie loved this song so much as he lay on my brother's chest listening to it. We buried this CD when we laid Cam to rest. The pain never subsides. Tears still flow for our little angel. Uncle Steven loves you, Cameron. See you again little one.

Linda Stout Steve Perry is Journey, he can never be replaced. Well actually, he was replaced with a gifted soundalike singer. Although the band carries on with the same sound, they are lacking. The greatest rock male vocalist of all time in my opinion. Robert Plant ,Freddie mercury (RIP) etc doesn't come close. Steve Perry has it all tone,range ,great usage of his vibrato,the power, his voice is incredible. My favorite male singer period, love this song.

30 years ago my brother lost his 6-month-old son Cameron. Cammie loved this song so much as he lay on my brother's chest listening to it. We buried this CD when we laid Cam to rest. The pain never subsides. Tears still flow for our little angel. Uncle Steven loves you, Cameron. See you again little one.

Linda Stout Steve Perry is Journey, he can never be replaced. Well actually, he was replaced with a gifted soundalike singer. Although the band carries on with the same sound, they are lacking. As Steve Perry brought more to the band than just his pipes. He was, in my opinion and will always be the heart and soul of Journey.
