I’m 81, and the music today is nothing like the music of the 70s and 80s. I met my 2nd husband-who had just about every album from the 70s- in 1980, and we went to so many concerts together that I can’t even count them all. He died of cancer in 2007, but I keep him alive by listening to music like this from Foreigner.

My Mother would listen to this song by foreigner when I was growing up as a child. She passed away on me last year June 2023 . This is definitely one of her favorites. I play it from time to time and just takes me back to the 80s and 90s. The saddest thing of all, this was the last song she listened to the night before she passed, as if leaving a message.
I was in the choir featured in the latter half of the video!! I was 14 years old, and was a part of the New Jersey Mass Choir at the time, which consisted of the adult choir which had a couple gospel records out at the time that were kind of big in the gospel world, and the youth division of which I was a part. When Foreigner wanted to do the video, they connected with our director, Donnie Harper, who brought adults and some chosen youth members to New York to film our parts for the video. It was an incredible experience I will never forget. Being a black gospel choir, it was definitely not lost on us how meaningful it was to connect with a different race on a song like this that would have appeal across color lines. It was a wonderful time.

This song came out the year my Wife and I started dating at 14 years old. Cancer stole her from me 10 months ago way too young and this song although always beautiful never gripped me like it did this time while driving home alone today. When the chorus came I reached over like I did so many times before to hold her hand with my palm up. did You know Lou Gramm hated this song when it came out? He hated doing ballads, and he hated not being able to write his own music and he thought this is not "rock and roll". He's definitely changed his opinion of the song over the years, but its hard to believe he did not like this song. It was mostly written by band member Mick Jones.
This is one of those songs that I always say it's no surprise became a universal classic hit for three reasons. One, it's quite ironic that it's not a rock song at all in terms of the arrangement. It's so synth-heavy, but I think that's what makes it interesting and unique for a hard rock band. Second, Lou Gramm's vocals are top notch and the gospel choir is the cherry on top. Third, the lyrical content is so relatable. "In my life, there's been heartache and pain - I don't know if I can face it again - I wanna know what love is". I'm sure everyone in this world has felt this way at one time or another.
I'm sure that everyone who adventures on the path of love had heartache and pain, but the thing is when you find somenone who shows what love really is and you love that person back everything about joy and happiness is possible to feel. And that music captures that journey like no other.
@mblaster3D some were broken at a young age and never did adventure down that path, but still know heartache and pain all to well, along with longing, but the inability to travel the path due to an ingrained general distrust of all people , a truth to them learned at a very young age and reinforced but any subsequent attempt to step foot on that path.

I always loved to dance with my dad, when I was 15 him and mum were going to a works dinner dance, but mum was ill so Dad took me, I'd learnt ballroom dancing at school, mum wasn't a keen dancer, but dad was a good dancer, we danced together almost every dance that night, it created a precious memory I will always treasure, I'd give anything to dance with my father again, he passed away 40 years ago come September he's always in my ❤

did You know Lou Gramm hated this song when it came out? He hated doing ballads, and he hated not being able to write his own music and he thought this is not "rock and roll". This is one of those songs that I always say it's no surprise became a universal classic hit for three reasons. One, it's quite ironic that it's not a rock song at all in terms of the arrangement. It's so synth-heavy, but I think that's what makes it interesting and unique for a hard rock band. Second, Lou Gramm's vocals are top notch and the gospel choir is the cherry on top. Third, the lyrical content is so relatable. "In my life, there's been heartache and pain - I don't know if I can face it again - I wanna know what love is". I'm sure everyone in this world has felt this way at one time or another.
I'm sure that everyone who adventures on the path of love had heartache and pain, but the thing is when you find somenone who shows what love really is and you love that person back everything about joy and happiness is possible to feel. And that music captures that journey like no other.
This a very deep song, and the video goes along into one of the best from the 80's still makes my heart missed a beat..

I always loved to dance with my dad, when I was 15 him and mum were going to a works dinner dance, but mum was ill so Dad took me, I'd learnt ballroom dancing at school, mum wasn't a keen dancer, but dad was a good dancer, we danced together almost every dance that night, it created a precious memory I will always treasure, I'd give anything to dance with my father again, he passed away 40 years ago come September he's always in my ❤
