Yess, I am grateful that I was born in 1969. And was introduced to the 50's and 60's music by my mom. Plus enjoyed the mid / late 70's music and thoroughly enjoyed the 80's! :)
After being separated from my husband for a year, thinking I didn't have any fight left, he felt the same. I heard this on my drive home tonight, and my heart came to a crashing halt. 20 years together is always worth another try. So I called him up and said, "Guess what I just heard on the radio?" Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.
I bought this for my boyfriend many years ago when we split up for time, we got back together and got married and had a wonderful life, he died nearly two years ago and the song feels like it did all those years ago when I thought I'd lost him, but now I really have. A brave face to the world but inside my heart is breaking
I was 15yo in 1980 completely unaware of how lucky I was to experience the best decade. Us kids had it all, freedom without the pressure of social media, incredible music and movies. Crazy fashion and hair, and no mobile phones. We actually socialized, we talked face to face, we knew our dates before the first date. Life had it's downsides but we didn't let them get in the way of having a good times. Nearly every person I know who experienced the 80's as a kid would go back in a heartbeat, no hesitation. I tear up when I hear the music from those times because they were the best of times. I ❤ 80's.

I was 27 in 1980, and I would go back in a heartbeat too. My sister and I talk about it all the time and our idea of Heaven is San Francisco in the 1980s. The midnight rides in one of our convertibles when we could not sleep, law school for her, Helicopter pilot for me, our buddies some gone now, some still with us. But we all will meet at the Cliff House one day again as we did then.
A waterfall of emotions and memories burn in my heart listening to these masterpieces from the most glorious and golden era of rock and pop, I want to go back to the 80's, who is with me???? ❤❤🔥

I still love him Missing You by John Waite is absolutely a perfect game changer and he blew my mind when I was a kid back in the day during the 80s my parents just finalized their divorce earlier in 84 this is absolutely a perfect deterrent to keep my reckless ass out of trouble and I've had the privilege of meeting a few times a really sexy as hell British rocker yo John I love you so much baby XO Rosie from New York City how are you feeling tonight I hope you are doing alright unfortunately my Pops AKA Michael Weinstein ex Marine stationed in Korea back in the day during the Korean war has since passed away it's almost 5 years later and my uncle Mel his brother had passed away last November from covid related pneumonia which sucks big time balls pardon my French guys I've had seen you live 7 times you have an amazing voice and you became an US citizen almost 5 years ago while retaining your British citizenship I'm very impressed with your amazing DNA and thanks for making me a fan of yours XO Rosie from New York City
Yes, yes and yes. God rest your soul, dear Eddie Van Halen. You and so many other artists helped to make our teenage years in the 1980s wonderful. We'll always miss you. 1984.
Till the 00’s it was music TV. Then it became decadent reality shows TV. Right now it came back to be a music channel and it’s great again because it plays all times music 👌🏼
My dad always used to play this song when he thought about his late mother. I lost him to alcohol addiction this past summer and now I’ve been playing this over and over ever since. I’m only 22 but I swear, I feel every bit of this song..... RIP pops 🙏🏻

There are several future classics in todays world. "Ace In The Whole " Struggle Jennings " A Thousand Years " Christina Perri "Open My Eyes " Buckcherry Those are just the first that came to my mind. There are more if people just have to listen for them and there are so many different genres to open our minds along with our already established heart & soul. I hope you find a way to broaden your mind along with adding to your music library. "MISSING YOU" by JOHN WAITE is one of my all time favorite songs.
That's funny I'm sure people listening to today's music will be saying the same thing 30 years from now about new music today and people 30 years before this song were complaining that the music is not good anymore.
To the person that reads this, I ask the Lord to bless them and their family, to cure them of every sickness and pain, to fill their emptiness with love joy and peace, to rebuke the enemy from their lives. " ASK JESUS TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND SAVE YOU, AND TO FORGIVE YOU OF YOUR SINS, FOR WE GIVE THANKS AND GLORY TO THE LORD. IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AMEN!
If you've ever had a breakup that tore you up for years afterward, you'll know why this song goes right to your guts and resonates through your entire body no matter how long it's been since that broken love affair. It' was 40 years ago but everytime I listen to this song it brings it back but softened by time.
Sadly, we belong to a club nobody in their right minds wants to belong to. My Tammy left this world back in July 1987, but it still hurts when I think about it. Some wounds never fully heal.

I sometimes think we are far more complex than we give ourselves credit for being . Okay we're stuck in the here and now , not by choice , but by the passage of time . Unfortunately , until a time machine is invented , there's not a lot we can do about that . Other than take the occasional mind trips , back to a happier , more fulfilling time . Admittedly upon reflection , it was far from perfect , as it never is in the real world . But on the whole , it was a damn sight better than it is right now . And as someone else remarked , thank goodness for UA-cam . Where with the press of a few buttons , as if by magic , you're instantly transported back to those times . I suppose in some respects , UA-cam could in itself , be classed as a time machine , viewed in that way . Just as if nothing has changed . And of course it never will . It will always stay the same . Safely locked away , in the vaults of time forevermore ........
Imo, my favorite year for music for the decade of excess. We had Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, WHAM!, Culture Club, Van Halen, Duran Duran, Bryan Adams, Depeche Mode, Cyndi Lauper, The Pointer Sisters, Dan Hartman, YES, Def Leppard, RATT, Bananarama, Weird Al, Sheila E., The Time, Mary Jane Girls, Billy Idol, Laura Branigan, Corey Hart, Peter Wolf, Quiet Riot, Chicago, Phil Collins, Sammy Hagar, The Cars, Tears for Fears, and The Police.
@@danielmarquis5258 most of what you named but never heard of some, so how are they great but that's my opinion. We all like what we like in the end. Happy New year and hope I did not offend you🤣
Gregg and his one of a kind dance grooves, the massive pupil dilation, his grinding lower jaw, the deep breathing, the emotional improv vocals, the sweet Pacific Sun fit, the ultra sensations of touch and compassion for his fellow Mall Rats (me included! I was one of the kids running in the mall in the NIN shirt! My 1st acting gig EVER!) Everything is still right here. Forever Gregg! 😌
A time when there were still morals and happy endings. A time when we celebrated being youthful because we all knew it was a season and that too would pass.
Lord i miss the 80s music.. I'm in my late forties and i cant tell you how much , real music means especially this classic. I will always love this song! ❤
I can't imagine what it's like for teens today with so much incoming from all of this technology they're constantly bombarded with! It must be overwhelming for these poor kids in high school right now with smartphones connecting everyone on all of these different platforms! How do they keep track of it all? The pressure must me unrelenting in their digital existence! And here I am, pulling up music from when I was a teenager, reminiscing about old girlfriends, friends, etc. So much time wasted being terrified or too stressed to be comfortable in the moment. Driving 30mph over the speed limit to get there faster. Wherever THERE was, and why it mattered that much. It didn't. It never does. But no one could've made me believe that back then. When I start to feel late or panicked about time now I just stop myself and remember to slow it back down. Breathe in-breathe out. Because it's so easy to let it spin out of control, and miss the smell of the flowers right by our noses.
"I hear your name, in certain circles, and it always makes me smile" That line has been following me round since the 90s, and I can still feel that aching pain in the bottom of my stomach to this day. Putting on a fake smile like I don't care, asking about him as if I don't care. Just that fraction of a second when your heart literally falls falls through your chest and you have to pretend you're fine. It's so funny how this song perfectly sums it all up.
Ugh memories I remember so well how I had to force a me-not-affected-Hiiiii!!! But deep down the groan😢 upon meeting the old and new just sux. Has anyone mastered the delete button on your life?
@@user-pq3fn6ev3l just hanging out together going dancing in the clubs, going to concerts, movies, to the beach, going for pizza and to the mall. It was just a cooler vibe in the 80s.
What a brilliant song. 2nd January 2023 and it just flew through my mind tonight! Only a GREAT song can stand such a long test of time. Salut to John Waite. 👏👏👏👏
This song was literally everywhere during the late summer and autumn of 1984 and it was on heavy rotation on MuchMusic (Canada's MTV). I was in the sixth grade that autumn and remember my school bus driver always had the radio on and this came on practically every morning. I have warm, fuzzy feelings and memories of hearing this song, bright, sunny, crisp autumn mornings, seeing fall foliage outside, on my way to school.
Aww... This must be so special to you then and I'm glad that you have this wonderful song to such fond memories. For I understand there's no better way to recall moments we hold dear to our hearts than thru good music. I have such a song that feels that way to me. It wasn't this one but just like you, I was on a bus in our field trip in my 5th grade. It was the first field trip I'm in that my mother didn't went with me and I liked the temporary independence and being just with my friends that time. It was a beautiful afternoon, we were driving by a countryside to our next itinerary and my classmates were tired by that time and the bus blessedly quiet, I was staring out of the window while listening to my walkman when the famous song popped in and never had it felt more special and personal. I always play it whenever I have a tough day, and get transported back to those peaceful memories. Amazing how music seems to stow away mementos of our life with it and could make us remember it just as vividly as though it was yesterday, feelings and all. 💚
@@OctavioGaitan It was amazing 70s, 80s and Early 90s. Everything turned to MUD after 2010=SOCIAL MEDIA!! No talent, musically, movies etc...Bye bye originality and creativity
This song is so painful to listen to. My wife left me and my kids and even though years passed I found out she passed away and didn't have a chance for my kids or myself to say goodbye. This song says how I feel deep in my heart

It seems as though some people dont quite understand the song. He's basically saying he misses her but he hates it because it drives him insane because she left him so he doesn't want to miss her but it seems like he cant stop himself from thinking of her so he's lying to himself saying I'm not missing you but in reality he is!
He is missing her. They are still together he care back to America to try his music career again. He misses her BUT.... he has girls here he fucks so he doesn’t miss her. True. Look it up
@Lady Jade I decided to scroll through the comments and came across yours. I can't believe you even had to explain the song. I'm confused that there are people confused by this song.
I’m an 80’s kid . Music was it for me. I’d watch MTV for hours when it played only music. God bless you John Waite. This song helped so many of us get through teen excruciating breakups. Iconic song and phenomenal vocalist. The music of the 80’s hands down the best. Real singers, real musicians, lyrics that we could relate to. This iconic masterpiece was during John’s solo career. He was also lead vocalist for Bad English, The Babys, and Ringo Starrs All Starr band. Last summer I went to a concert with John and Rick Springfield. Tears streaming down my face, and goosebumps all over STILL! He still has that magic and sounds almost exactly the same. ❤❤❤
Artists in the 80's were like a religion, we worshipped them. I had that problem with Madonna. Then the 90's came and turned everything around. And pop stars became too accessible and normal.
I love love this song I recently got the privilege to see John weight in person and the iconic John ford Cooley. I was 2 seats from the front row stage!!! At the Stafford center it was the most iconic moment of my life. Not to mention I got the privilege to go behind stage and meet his band just an amazing experience I will never forget ❤❤❤ I grew up listening to this song and my other awesome artist. I love the 1980s and wish we could have Stayed in this era forever. Beautiful song and the words are so touching!!!! John weight still is just as good as he was when he first released this song/album

I’m in John. I’ve been missing everything from the 80’s. That decade was totally magical for me and I suppose that for many millions more. Thank you for your music
I was born 1985, lucky the ones who actually got to live the 80s, no 1 will take that away from you. I see this videos and hear this music and feel nothing but nostalgia since I didn’t get to enjoy the 80s.
Back in 84 I was in my late teens. I had a girlfriend that completely broke my heart and this song got me through those very tough days. I would listen to it over and over and it truly helped with the healing process. I hear it now and I get this deep feeling of nostalgia for those days long ago. My mom got to love the song too, she passed away in 2007. This song still makes me sigh after all of these years! Thank you John for such a timeless masterpiece!
Two weeks ago I lost my wife to cancer. She was only 38 when she had to die! I can't understand the world anymore. We where together half of our lifes and now she is gone forever. I sit here hear this song and can't stop crying.I miss you darling.
This song is medicine for my soul... stuck in quarantine missing the person I try to tell myself I'm over. Sometimes there is just that one person you'll always love, even if they don't love you in return, even if years pass by. I've made peace with the fact that we will never be together, but the longing never leaves me. I've had to accept that a part of me will always be missing. Such is life in this world.
The opening shot with all the old boxy 70s/early 80s cars just makes me really nostalgic. I remember streets still looked like this when I was a kid in the early-mid 90s too.
I know, right. I went crazy one day googling all sorts of different cars from the late 70s and 80s and it's crazy how many of them were the old generation of some of the cars today like the ford focus for instance and the Toyota Supra. I had no idea that car back in 1985 I remember was a supra. Camaro's, Corvette's and Firebird's I heard about all the time back in the 80s.
This is right up there with 10cc's "I'm Not In Love". The denial of being in love is so strong, only to later on say "I can lie to myself". Word play at its finest. This is what music is about and how it's meant to be written.
The world sucks right now we want to tear up America and erase our past the song is songs for good back there at all the trash they have now all the everything sucks
I’d like so much to turn back time to the 80’s when music was MUSIC. I wasn’t born yet when this song came out but I wish I could live in those years when everything was simpler and people were happier.

One of the coolest and smoothest voice of the 80s....I don't care about what people say about this "one-hit wonder"...That's just one of the beauties and magic of the 80s...there are bunch of " 1-hit wonders" ! 😂😅
@@autistichead8137 To me it's a "one-hit wonder of his solo career. Yes, I know he was in the Babys and Bad English, but it's a band not his solo career. @howdyheyhey I think maybe it's that way for most people with the songs from when they were growing up, us 80s kids just got lucky to grow up in that decade, imo....but this song definitely hits home, gets me every time

I was also 15 in 1980!! I wish I could go back. Sometimes I’ll hear a song a can actually smell a room I was in or someone I was with..

Let's just hope none of the new "artists" try to cover this gem.. 🤦♀️
Agree, music kept going to shit after the 80s
Yes we're going back to the 80s with a modern twist it's already headed that way
Playing your instrument well, singing and writing and creating new music was an art form. Now it has become a marketing (T&A) and production business.

80s music was incredible. We're still listening!
Hi I recommend a song called 'The Bond Villain' By Robert Nix
I once heard someone say "no other era has the lasting power 80s music does."
He nailed it.
It only takes one song in 2024 to bring all the heartache of my youth back. 😢

"MISSING YOU" by
JOHN WAITE
is one of my all time favorite songs.
That's funny I'm sure people listening to today's music will be saying the same thing 30 years from now about new music today and people 30 years before this song were complaining that the music is not good anymore.
Now we just get crap like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Smh.

I was 30 years old in 1980 , my boys were born Iin 83 and 86 , oh how I wish I could go back to that time , the best years of my life .
Me too xx
I'd do everything differently.
Admittedly upon reflection , it was far from perfect ,
as it never is in the real world .

I'm grateful I had the opportunity to grow up in the 80's music. I believe the teens today, don't understand our generation of great music!
I totally agree with you, we witness the best decade of music...
Even though I’m not so young, born 1987 but I do understand and consider the 80’s as really the best music
The babies being born today and growing up will never know what all they have missed 😢

@@Sionnach1601 ty so much my dear sister and buddy XO Rosie from the Big Apple
You got that right I remember when this song came out
Had the pleasure of meeting John after his outdoor concert at the beach and boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California in 2007! Very nice guy and great singer!
I was 18 when it was released. Today I got emotional listening to a street singer. I don't know why this song came to my mind and I came here to look for it. It must be located in my brain in the area of strong emotions. 😊
One of the coolest and smoothest voice of the 80s....I don't care about what people say about this "one-hit wonder"...That's just one of the beauties and magic of the 80s...there are bunch of " 1-hit wonders" ! 😂😅
Our time
Awesome
Far from a one hit wonder, Waite was the Babys, huge hit with isn’t it time , and Bad English “When I see you smile” .
@@autistichead8137 To me it's a "one-hit wonder of his solo career. Yes, I know he was in the Babys and Bad English, but it's a band not his solo career.
I'm not being ignorant of my favorite artist, brother. I know everything about all my favorite artists. And there are hundreds of them (my favorite)...😁
John Waite is much more than a one hit wonder. His voice continues to be amazing. You should see him in concert and sing along to all of his hits ❤❤❤
80's MUSIC NEVER DIES !
ABC does it for me❤
🤝 your comment
Until we do
Jamás
Yeah! Never! ❤
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
Those bitter sweet ones are priceless times I'd give anything to step back into time
I like this twice!
Me too!
Me too and I don't really know why 😢
@howdyheyhey I think maybe it's that way for most people with the songs from when they were growing up, us 80s kids just got lucky to grow up in that decade, imo....but this song definitely hits home, gets me every time
What a song, what a voice, what a performance, totally brill
iant, lyrics too. Love this song, a real classic. Thank you John

Listening to this with headphones takes me back to being a child in that glorious, mysterious decade known as the Big 80s.
Big music, bigger hair and shoulder pads *sigh*
Every time I think of you
I always catch my breath
And I'm still standing here
And you're miles away
And I'm wondering why you left
And there's a storm that's raging
Through my frozen heart tonight
I hear your name in certain circles
And it always makes me smile
I spend my time
Thinking about you
And it's almost driving me wild
And there's a heart that's breaking
Down this long distance line tonight
I ain't missing you at all
Since you've been gone
Away
I ain't missing you
No matter
What I might say
There's a message
In the wild
And I'm sending you
This signal tonight
You don't know
How desperate I've become
And it looks like I'm losing this fight
In your world
I have no meaning
Though I'm trying hard
To understand
And it's my heart that's breaking
Down this long distance line tonight
I ain't missing you at all
Since you've been gone
Away
I ain't missing you
No matter
What my friends say
And there's a message that I'm sending out
Like a telegraph to your soul
And if I can't bridge this distance
Stop this heartbreak overload
I ain't missing you at all
Since you've been gone
Away
I ain't missing you
No matter
What my friends say
I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I keep lying to myself
And there's a storm that's raging
Through my frozen heart tonight
I ain't missing you at all
Since you've been gone
Away
I ain't missing you
No matter
What my friends say
Ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I keep lying to myself
Ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
I ain't missing you
Ain't missing you
Oh no
No matter what my friends might say
I ain't missing you
