I put a fueling on my 2017 M8 bagger. I can assure you, the bike runs better.
You need to release the positive pressure. I am a believer .

I'm going to do this with a few small changes...I will use clear silicone tubing and make a larger vent hole in the cap, this way you can visibly see any oily build up in the tube. Not riding season here yet but when I get it done I will leave some feedback...Thank you for the video...Very helpful...

Hi ,Very similar to what I have done but what you must remember is that the black turn cap is just clipped on ,now that you have made a hole in the bottom to release pressure in to the dipstick body .pressure/oil mist can seep under the black cap. I sealed mine so the pipe is the only place for pressure to get out. Keep up the great work my friend. If it doesn't work a new dipstick is only 20 quid.

Thanks for the video but I think that the hole of tle ball pump pin is way to small if you consider the volume the piston are expelling. High flow in a small hole yield higher speed hence higher pressure that with a bigger hole.

Great video, I'll say one thing you do a good job showing people how to do things themselves and a hell of alot cheaper,if you go and buy all the aftermarket parts to fix the oil problems on HDs your talking thousands of dollars, keep up the good work 👍

I know the fueling has a 1 way check valve and I know you mentioned this in your video. The A1 ventilator (not for softail) has the theory the engine breaths both ways to best to have it free flowing.

Cut the stick’s O ring off and carry a rag to wipe off oil as necessary! I had this on one of my old Honda Fours back in the day. Of course, it was laziness that allowed it to stay that way, I didn’t realize I was an early adopter in the crankcase ventilation world!

Thanks for the video. From the limited information I know any m8 engine stage 2 or higher recommend having a vent due to higher compression and possible dry sumping issues. Great cheap fix!

  • @FranBunnyFFXII
    @FranBunnyFFXII 3 роки тому +3

I was gonna buy the Feuling one, but realized I could easily make one myself and save over 200$ doing so.
My design is fairly similar to yours but the air passage is much larger.
That air hole tube you used however is not large enough for pass through. The line needs to be 1/4th inch or larger.
Demonstrate this by trying to breathe through that tiny tube, then go grab a juicebox straw. You can't breathe at all through that little tube, you'll pass out. You can almost breathe properly through the juicebox straw. Get a regular straw and you can breathe just fine.
Same with the engine. That hole wont be large enough to let pressure pass through properly and will allow oil to channel up into the breathers.
You arent going to notice much of a difference trying to let the engine vent through a hole meant to fill up soccerballs and basketballs slow enough that kids dont pop them.

Oil pump on 2020+ M8 bikes is supposed to take care of sumping issues.
Oil transfer issue was mainly with hydraulic clutches on touring bikes.

This happened two weeks ago this is a very weird feeling. So apparently sumping is definitely an issue.. I'm definitely going to get vented dipstick... The sumping issue was not resolved totally... As an addition: You may experience oil seeping from the base of the black cap. This is because it isn't a sealed cap. So you can either put on o ring or gasket sealer or what I have done is place some cloth on the inside of the dipstick shaft after removing the black cap. This still allowing airflow but stop the oil coming out.

I'm still not sure what I'm going for, DK customs in the US make the EBS, still waiting for a reply on the total cost, they want $44 just for the catch can without any of the hose or attachments, once I hear back I'll let you all know. I've got to admit that you've done something that will do just the same job, Yeh not fancy but that gives you £300 to spend on something nice for your bike or the missus, depending what means more to you lol, but good fix Alf, at least you've got the confidence to try it for the rest of us, I just don't agree with having to spend over £300 on the bike, yes the feuling vented dip stick looks the part and is very well put together, but its one or the other, vented dip stick or the EBS, there's arguments for both options, I'm definitely going to be looking out to see how you're getting on with it and see if it actually does help, a very simple, cheap remedy and looks like it will work, excellent video Alf👍.

@@RevelatorAlf For the past 18 months until last week, every time I went out on a 45+ min. ride I’d check my oil level but realize at least half the time the dipstick was difficult or even not able to be moved by hand. I assumed the plastic expanded and forced the oil out from the grooves in the stick and was hung up from expanding. Instead, pressure pushes up on the stick and makes it hard to turn.

So heres a lesson learned…I have a 2018 Road King M8 107ci. I routed my upper breather hose out of the stock air intake mod. When i screwed the cover back on, the vacuum hose i used got pinched between the cover & the air filter by accident. Well, went for a ride & it was running weird, oil light came on. Stopped at a gas station & decided to check the oil, unscrewed it & oil exploded all over me, the pump & the side of the bike was covered in hot oil. It blew half a quart out. I refilled it, removed the air filter & saw where it was pinched. I feel lucky that the head gasket didn’t blow. The pressure in the bottom end was unreal. It just shows how important it is for this engine to breath.

Engine's and transmissions need to breath. The Greenies think you can just seal them up. Well you can't do that and not expect the norman venting action to take place somewhere and the current design is causing problems because it's venting through the intake and exhaust ports via the engine case. That's very bad in a dry sump engine design. Venting through the oil tank is not the best way to do it but it's better than no venting at all. The primary needs to be vented as well. If I had a new Harley Davidson (which I never will) I would install fittings on the engine, transmission, oil tank, and primary case with vent hoses attached to a proper breather box and filter.
