One of the greatest boss battles of all time, and a perfect example for a perfect final boss. The soundtrack is badass, the look is great, the intensity is immense and keeps on growing during the many phases of this long battle. But what I love most about this how you need to put everything you have learned over the course of the game to use here, how you have to use every little thing in Samus considerable arsenal to bring this thing down. I remember how I thought that the idea that he constantly changes colours and you have to accordingly constantly switch to your weapons and NOT only use your fire-and-forget Plasma Beam is genius 20 years ago, and I still think it is. Also, the lore behind this thing is awesome as well. If I remember correctly, when you scan him, it says something like that he is an "evolutionary error". That idea has always fascinated me. the other bosses are mostly successful predators or more-or-less perfectly designed war machines, but Metroid Prime is an exception. He is a creature with no place in the world and no purpose, and he still is immensely powerful, but without any useful direction for his power. I find that concept equally fascinating and disturbing. In my book this is how a final boss should be. You've heard about it in chozo lore entries and the pirate data entries, and even though you don't know exactly what it is(In the first playthrough atleast) you can still sense its presence on Tallon IV through the phazon corruption. And then you're standing there, face to face with the Metroid Prime, and it's gonna take everything you got to take it down.
When I first found out the name of the boss in the official guide book in a store somewhere, it was hard for me to believe it at first because it's just weird that a boss is named exactly after the game itself.

WiiManElite Ah. You've misunderstood what I said. I said that's what happens if a Leviathan, which comes from Phaaze, hit a planet and if a Metroid is next to the Leviathan.
WiiManElite the lore covers it. Basically, the chozo find phazee and get super scared of it due to the radiation of the planet, and the creatures that inhabit it. The chozo then Decided to wipe out all life on it that could harm the universe, and creates the first metroid. The planet devours a large majority of the chozo bodies and grows sentient, having their memories. It then proceeds to launch the metroid back to Tallon IV with the crumbles of chozo armor as an insult and reminder of how it bastardized Phaze. The Metroid gains its own sentience and self awareness as well due to Phazee, and transforms the armor it had with it into an Exo Skeleten to protect itself.
Real talk, Metroid Prime (the boss) is fucking terrifying in concept and excecution. You just take something that's already scary, have it consume a metric shut ton of Phazon, and watch the word space jellyfish turn into a big-ass space crab demon looking thing
Anybody else pissed he didnt use super missles or like anything but beam weapons it took him towards the end of primes final form to realize that the power bomb was best to use with the metroids prime summons also only 115 missles oof
You know, fps boss fights tend to suck. But metriod prime probably is one of the best final bosses of all time. No small feat. It just keeps pushing you, asking you to use all of your abilities, juggle multiple targets, understand all of your abilities. It's always increasing in tension.
Fun fact: Each of the six glowing "holes" below Metroid Prime's face in its exoskeletal form contains a rather realistic-looking white eye, the same eye seen on Dark Samus's hand in the secret end cutscene (and on several parts of her body + in the center of her morph ball in Prime 2).
My favourite thing about this fight is that Samus comes in and slow walks up to it to see what's up. Then the thing just buries into the ground and Samus just runs straight after it doing full on olympic gymnastics to face it head on. Its such a good display of character.
People call this "EASY"? This thing tore trough every missile and Energy tank I had ON NORMAL MODE. Also, try navigating the Impact Crater and getting to Metroid Prime with full health, I DARE YOU.
Ill always love that little narrowing of the eyes Prime does at 12:58. always seemed to me like he's saying "OK, I'm done running Bring it." then Samus rushes at him like ok here we go.
The problem with that is missile combos run through your missiles very fast (especially the Wavebuster and Flamethrower), even with all missile expansions.
I still remember the suspense I felt walking into that room the first time 15 years ago. The eerie Impact Crater soundtrack really made me wonder what was waiting for me at the end of this epic adventure, and reflect on how far Samus had come. You had just defeated your arch rival, Ridley, in battle. What could possibly be next? Then the awesome boss music kicks up and it's go time. One of the best final bosses I've ever played.
I never used to get why the metroid prime died the way it did… until I found some concept art. It’s not just detonating. It’s mutating at such a rate the it’s dna is falling apart. When Samus irradiated its brain it was so overloaded with radiation that even the creature was overwhelmed. It started to fission like a fission metroid. But it could not stop the mutation. It keeps dividing over and over becoming a mass of copies. Until it fissions unevenly. Resulting in less and less perfect copies. At this point it’s just degenerating. The shrieking faces of the metroid degenerate into blue formless phazon which then starts to detonate. The exterior of the creature starts to rapidly expand ripping the brain apart with it as the creature shrieks in excruciating agony. Until finally it ruptures and dies but not before storing some of its brains in Samus’s phazon suit. Which would lead to dark Samus being created…
This is my favorite boss in Metroid period. It played with your expectations at a time people didn't roll their eyes at another "giant spider" boss. And it's almost human face... Wish the final design resembled the concept art a little more though.
It’s such a shame samus had to lose her phazon suit. Design wise that’s the sexiest thing I’ve seen in a long time even till this day. The light suit doesn’t compare lol

Anyway I'm here because I'm planning on playing Metroid Prime 2 for the first time on emulator and I needed some closure.
I miss when Metroid Prime was just Metroid Prime and not Dark Samus. The latter just doesn't feel as threatening as the giant abomination of a Metroid you fight at the end of this game.
I beat this thing on Hard Mode yesterday. Had all the Energy Tanks and Power Bombs, and nearly all the Missiles, and I barely made it. Extremely satisfying, though!
On hard mode this fight takes forever. You have to dodge more often and anticipate what's coming. Also having a ton of missles and using the beam missle combos helps too
Why did you not try to shoot the missile combo when Prime was yellow at the beginning? Or later on? Just charge any beam and then press the missile button.

But can we talk about how cool looking the Phazon power suit looks like?
I remember when I was a kid I made it to this final boss in the game, but for some reason I never beat it. I died to the second phase of this boss and didn't want to start the fighter over I guess?
Anyway I'm here because I'm planning on playing Metroid Prime 2 for the first time on emulator and I needed some closure.
I almost feel like this game was too good for its time!
kinda creepy that it looks like a face when you enter
I miss when Metroid Prime was just Metroid Prime and not Dark Samus. The latter just doesn't feel as threatening as the giant abomination of a Metroid you fight at the end of this game.
I may have missed something, but what is it exactly that makes this thing a Metroid? I don't see the resemblance.
It is a metroid that was mutated by space pirate expieriments with phazon.
@@inshan3st3r no, not by Space Pirate experimentation. Just by exposure to pure, red Phazon.
You should find and or use the special beams. The wave beams secondary fire is murder in this fight.
I like when you think the boss fight is over but it’s not
Omg this music is so amazing, too. What a fantastic game. Would have liked if the final boss were a little harder, but damn. What an experience.
Metroid Prime in [hard mode]. Now that is a challenge!
Not really Samus is too powerful and too many tanks...
I beat this thing on Hard Mode yesterday. Had all the Energy Tanks and Power Bombs, and nearly all the Missiles, and I barely made it. Extremely satisfying, though!
On hard mode this fight takes forever. You have to dodge more often and anticipate what's coming. Also having a ton of missles and using the beam missle combos helps too
@@MrDarksword123 oml hard mode on prime 2 💀💀💀
12:59-13:03 still gives me goosebumps too this day lol
Das sum epic anime shit right there. Wait... now I want a metroid anime.
How did you play this on your PC? Was it with the Wii controller or just a mouse and key board?
Gilgamesh ,the treasure hunter You can play it with any kind of gamepad. I'm playing it with a USB Xbox controller.
dolphin emulator, and mouse and keyboard
No, he used a wii control via bluethooth, you can conect that shit to a god damm microwave if you dare to do so.
This is 4 years old nmow, but holy shit you have missiles you know. I heard Super Missiles do wonders on pretty much all Bosses.
fun fact in the metroid prime core phase of the fight you can stand on the exoskeleton and be immune to the shockwave attack
this game was so scary as a kid. what a great game. truly one of the best.
Why did you not try to shoot the missile combo when Prime was yellow at the beginning? Or later on? Just charge any beam and then press the missile button.
Should rename it to, "Metroid Prime Final Boss Fight Without Using Missiles"
