- This video is of an oddball guitar creation that I'm listing on marketplace - so interested parties can hear what it sounds like. It's listed on FB marketplace now, but as a "cash in hand - must be picked up" sale because I do not have a case and I don't want to ship it. / 15qfxacv9n
Robert Johnson would love that
I think that guitar sounds really good! The first playing example immediately brought to mind the tone of a Selmer/Gypsy Jazz style guitar.
Really cool
That little Rockabilly riff at 5:12 is where that guitar really shines! What a cool old axe you've got there!😄🎵🎶👍👍👍
Thank you!
Never been a fan of resophonic guitars but I clicked anyway. WOW! Please take another trip to the junkyard. Fantastic guitar!
Thank you! The junk is everywhere! I went to craft fair with my wife recently and came home with a boat paddle. Now its a 3 string guitar. Build video is on my channel, and I play it some at the end. If I'm ever up the creek, I'm prepared.
That is a MAGNIFICENT instrument. Truly unique (as a one-off custom) and with excellent tone, both acoustic and electric. Looks as good as it sounds.
Thank you
Right 👍 on brother looks good sounds good nice playing.... one of a kind priceless... only one in the world...
Thank you! 26K views, and lots of great comments that I really appreciate. Its on marketplace right now for $225, and I have not received one single message from an interested party. The world is a strange place. 😀
Long live Rock-a-Billy!!!
Best app for that axe.
Love it!!!
🙏
Rockabilly is cool, no doubt about that!
Neat. Creative design resulted in something unique and cool.
the best part about listening to the sound of that guitar is the guy playing it. Looks like it has a nice neck
Thank you! That Hohner neck actually is a comfortable playing neck. It is unfortunate that someone chipped the binding on one corner. Its been like that since I got it.
That's beautiful.
Thank you!
What a wonderful sound! Great work, subbed to your channel. Very unique, keep sharing!
Thank you!
You should keep that guitar sir.
I had that thought after I plugged it up and played it for a little while. But, I plan to build another resophonic flavored guitar (neck is already made) that will take this one's place. I can't keep them all, and right now I have three builds in the que - a six string headless cigar box guitar using a rare 80+ year old cigar box, a six string super thin solid body that should weigh in under three pounds, and a three string cigar box style guitar made from a very old heart pine boat paddle I picked up at a craft fair (perfectly quarter sawn). I may do a build video of that - how to reinforce it with carbon fiber to make it a real quality player, but keep as much of the original patina as possible. Great fun!
Outstanding use of available materials! It's really raw, but cool because of it! I raspy beauty is born!
Thank you!
Super cool, unique build. Sounds a LOT better than I expected.
Thank you!
The high tones are amazing.
Wish we could bring back Elvis, and Scotty Moore for a rendition of blue moon on that guitar!
I'd like to hear that too! A lot of people have left a mark that will last many lifetimes - thanks to the recordings we have of their trailblazing talents.
Sounds and looks very cool to me. The best sounding of its type I have heard. Obviously paint tin lids work better than dog bowls. That pick up takes it back to the 1950's.
I’m a painter guitar player and a retired painter guitarist for a stepdad , “dope guitar dude”
Thank you!
It makes music.
Well done sir.
Thank you!
Send it to Justin Johnson, he will love it!
John Dopera (and his tricone) is beaten hands down! Good sound... An optional cover might be interesting, to protect the cones ?
The paint can lids have held up well so far and I didn't want to hide them, but it would probably have a cleaner look with a cover.
Awesome Guitar sounded really cool with the delay. Great cool blues guitar like 👍
Thank you!
Somebody who's looking for that sound will buy it give it time ...hell maybe Bob Dylan will buy it
hopefully someone will perform with it. the guitar is so unique. cool beans for sure.
$225 not bad at all .I can't play anymore I suffered a stroke 4 years ago and it left me paralyzed on my left side of my body can't use my left hand anymore..I used to work on guitars and play...but I'm alive all the doctors and nurses were amazed I survived they said I should have been dead ...we all have a purpose under God ...
I'm sorry to hear that you can't play anymore. I know that has to be hard. You're right - God made every single one of us for a purpose. I pray that He will bless you immensely.
@WhitakerGuitarsandMusic thank you very much 🙏
Yes my friend that's lovely
Thank you!
Good lord...
Sir, never in all my natural born days have I ever seen such a masterful piece of work.
That guitar you made right there puts all the resophonic instruments I have ever seen TO SHAME. Even the instruments I plan on making probably couldn't compare. You say that guitar ain't the one of the best in the world, I'm here to tell you: you are dead wrong. I've seen some crazy, creative, wacky luthiers in my 15 years of livin' but none quite like you. And I've certainly never seen nothin' quite like the Junkyard Dog.
God-bless you, sir and keep up the good work, that guitar is incredible.
Thank you very much for the kind words! If you are an aspiring luthier, you might enjoy watching the cigar box guitar build videos on my channel. I've been a self taught luthier for over 30 years, and I've built some very radical stringed instrument designs during that time - but in my opinion nothing I've ever built is as far "out of the box" as the Sine Wave guitar I made earlier this year. You might find the two videos I have about that guitar very interesting - especially the second one. Happy building!
Not sure if it sounds like garage floor paint, or deck and bathroom. LOL. Pretty cool. I've got a bunch of old Kalamazoo by Gibson instruments from the thirties, love every one of them.
bottle neck
Man you got some chops, really nice..I kinda like the guitar she's got a very unique sound.
Thank you!
fantastic love it
Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
Acoustic guitar with built-in distortion! You don't even need an amp for breakup. I love it, absolutely unique!
Glad you like it! It has been fun to play with over the years. The neck is already made for the "resophonic flavor" guitar that I intend to replace this one with - when I get time to work on that project. I still need to take pics of this guitar and get it listed on marketplace.
I love it, how do I buy it?
@@rauhjam I have it listed for sale on FB marketplace - but only as a "cash in hand" in-person sale. I don't have a case for it, and don't want to ship it. I'm in South Carolina.
The best possible outcome would be to sell it to some producer* who needs new sounds in his toolkit.
That machine sounds like no other guitar ever ... *Jack White - You out There?
Way cool, like the nephew of Les’s log sounds good hope it finds a home 👍
Not bad at all❤😅😊
Thank you!
I like it! Swampy!
Nice Guitar with a nice Sound, I like it
Thank you!
@WhitakerGuitarsandMusic how much ? I was surprised after I heard it ! Dam Good Job .
@@duanetrivett750 Thank you! I still need to take pictures of it and get the listing on marketplace - but intend to price it at $225 or best offer. It's far from perfect, and I wouldn't ask more than that. My friends that have played it over the years always liked it, and to be honest it's been hanging on the wall getting ignored for a long time. I think the pickup was a good idea - I should have added one years ago.
I love it. Sounds okay to me. But ... I think I have enough guitars already. And you gave me some ideas. Greetz from Belgium.
Thank you! Please share what you build with me after you're finished!
Sounds great.
She got a sound very Bright
I would if i was from south Carolina. The price to pay for that and the gas would probably be near a grand and that could buy a decent resonator guitar anyways.
That's the one acoustic where the wife would still ask to: "Turn that thing down!!!" Pete.
😀
nice Mystery Train !
Thank you! I'm a long time fan of all the great rockabilly players.
Interesting cool sound!!It would sound great with a bottle neck slide!
Thank you! I wish I was good with a slide...
It sounds great to me.
Thank you!
From the look, I expected it to sound like
XSZOAAANGUE
ZZTop approved
Sharp. Gd job
Cool as hell
It's got flavor 😎
... saving for a dobro , sounds cool
Heck after hearing the rockabilly part id love to hear what the Reverend Horton Heat could do would be fabulous as well
That would be something I'd like to hear too!
that guitar sounds better than most high dollar resos. it would have made Woodstock in the day.
You’re selling for $225??? You should have a line of buyers circling around the block at $500!
I don’t know what’s wrong with my hands (arthritis?) but I really don’t play anymore. That doesn’t matter too much, I started playing in the mid 60s, but I’m still a much better builder than a player. I would love to build one like yours, right after I finish building the house, storage building, shop, woodshed….
Good to know I'm not the only one with a list like that!
This Guitar I will Bay
If you were local, I'd tell you bring cash and come get it! I don't have a case for it, and I don't want to have to ship it.
PS- I might be interested in that axe, willing to drive within reason.
Where are you? I'm in South Carolina.
Covington Georgia
I've been there once - had a couple of friends that lived there. That would be a long drive just to pickup 2 1/2 gallons of crazy. What is the issue that you're having with the ES-175?
@@WhitakerGuitarsandMusic Age! Needs refretting and the bridge seems somewhat unstable. I purchased it used in 1978. Lots of buzzing frets around 10th on. I currently have it in the case , not being played.
@@BigG-um8uw Makes me sad to hear that. Because the buzzing starts that high up the neck, I suspect that the extension over the body or that joint area may have some issues. Sometimes they're easy to deal with, and sometimes they require extensive surgery, maybe even neck removal. If I didn't have so much on my plate right now I would be glad to tackle it. It would be a joy to work on it. I made a complete replacement neck for a ES-125T many years ago, and put the Gibson script in the headstock in pearl instead of gold print at the owner's request. No doubt some collector has scratched their head over that by now. I wish I knew someone close to you to recommend. I don't know Randy personally, but I know people who know him and I have seen some of his archtop work. His reputation is stellar, to the best of my knowledge.
If there is good in this universe, please please please🙏 can we get this in the hands of Billy Strings?
Would love to hear it with a slide.
I'd have to raise the action to even attempt that, but I'm sure a good slide player could do some fun stuff with it. I'm just blown away reading all of these comments, and they're making me wonder if I really should sell it! I never expected more than a couple of people to ever watch the video.
Where are you located? I need a good luthier/tech for my ES175. I’m in Georgia.
I'm in South Carolina, near Sumter. I stopped doing repair work many years ago and now I'm trying to get a pickup company up and running - probably not the best time for me to take on something else. I know that Randy Wood is good with archtops - he's made some in the past. He may be able to help you get it straightened out and I think he's still living in the Savannah area - last I heard.
Thanks, appreciate it
Why not include a link to your Marketplace listing?
When I put the video up I hadn't listed it yet. It's for sale on FB marketplace now, but as a "cash only - must be picked up" sale because I do not have a case for it and I don't want to ship it. But, here's a link to the listing if you want to see it. I'll also edit the description and add it there. facebook.com/share/15QfXaCv9N/
how much?
I'm thinking about $225 or best offer. I'll list it for a local "in person" cash only sale. I don't want to ship it because I don't have a case to go with it. I'm blown away by how much attention the video is getting. I put it up just to link to it in the listing and it's getting more views than the videos of my nice guitars! Crazy...
You need to ask more for it!!
Pretty awesome, tx for sharing. I would not call that a Junk yard dog although it’s a cute name. Sounds pretty amazing!
Don't sell it to Dobro/Gibson!
