I have one of those, I bought it right by where John Lee Hooker was playing in Blues Brothers movie. 30 years ago. Sounded great but blew it out after a few days and have not yet had it repaired. (projector still working.)

I lived at 111th st 43rd ave Corona from age 6 to 10. Remember school science room was full of great stuff that got me into electronics. 1st thing the teacher taught us was how a hand cranked Generator produced current. Fsntastic times in 1970s Queens.
We used to mod amps to do this in the mid 90s at Black Market Music in LA. Lots of these are out there cheap - and with some knowledge and tweaking you can get past the unusual tones that they typically put out. A good basic platform for a lot of ideas.
That valve set up should pump out 50w with perhaps some chassis mods. 2 prong!!?? Beware the bare feet on concrete floor! We all learned that one back in the day 😳😳😳⚡⚡⚡ Outstanding presentation thanks!
Great tone! Very reminiscent of Malcom Young from AC/DC. New caps and a general clean-up should kick it along even more. Good luck and thanks for posting
Back in the 70s, we didn't have pedals and relied on the combination of our guitar, amp and speakers to get the right sound. I made a tube amp with two preamps channels, one channel was modelled off of a Fender twin reverb and the other channel was modelled off of a Marshall amp. They fed four 6L6GC tubes for 100 Watts output. We used to play with the 6L6GC tube bias to get that sweet distortion. We found that setting the bias so the output tubes just started to glow red worked the best. We also played a lot with the presence circuit which introduced a feedback loop from the output transformer back into the preamps. I was a bass player at the time and traded the head for a Peavey 140 Watt transistor head. I build a custom set of ported speaker cabinets with a JBL 140 15 inch speaker in each. I had a 1960 Fender Precision at the time with flatwound Rotosound strings. Alas, everything is long gone.

That is a killer tone. Pretty transparent overdrive, nice and even across the frequencies even without the compressor. Slap a Sennheiser MD421 on it with that SM57 and you have a great recording amp.
Shhh. These sort of unconventional guitar amps are a hidden secret to getting unique tones. Don’t tell a lot of people because they will sky rocket prices.
Nice riffage! I love it! I would be playing Neil Young riffs all day. How many watts do you think it’s pushing? I would be very careful with that speaker. I picked up an Ampro speaker with a similar vintage Jensen speaker (field coil speaker) in it a few years ago. Unfortunately, It was ready to turn to dust when I bought it. Hopefully yours is in much better condition, but I wouldn’t crank it too much! Anyway, thanks for sharing that cool, funky old amp!
Years ago I played an old office PA/intercom amplifier made by a company named Bell. It pushed a 4x10 Super Reverb cabinet that had a blown amp head. One of the best sounding amps I ever played. To this day I have no idea where they are.
I had a "British " made "Hacker" active intercom speaker from the 50s ..had 3 valves and I GPO( 1/4") jack input and it was clean up to full blast. Was too well made for Guitar. It was only a 6" speaker but you could play a Bass guitar through it. They built to much higher specs in the 50s /60s the gear had to last.
Does Not Sound like Crap! Its All in the Tone, and Ears of the Players,Choice! So Ya Might like Your Guitar so distorted or delayed, that you cant tell if ya Suck!😂So This Clean Vintage Tones are COOL!😮😊❤❣
You definitely have an input impedance mismatch 1 meg input is required. You will never clean up this amp with headroom without getting these gain staging setup properly. Sure it will buzz and fuzz but, NO CLEAN
Your Katana is solid-state. A tube amp produces a much better sound. Hearing and playing is believing. Keep the Katana and get a tube amp, say a Fender from the 70’s, and compare them.
Sounds like what it is…crap.
GR8 B8 M8
but rare old crap !
I love the tone
But crap (i.e. distortion) from tube amps is highly valued by guitarists 😂 For music playback, I'll always prefer solid-state!
Comments like this always make me wonder what type of amp the commenter prefers. In Peter Sokol’s case I’d say a Peavey Bandit.
I’ve never had better tone than plugging into something like this. They take effects really well.
I freakin love that sound, especially with your playing style. tears in my eyes... seriously!

cooool! ill have to keep im eye open for Filmosound now..

Surprisingly clean overdrive
Love the video and the sound :) nice to see something different
Sounds damn good. You should store it at my house where it will be safe.
I have two 1953 Fender Deluxe amps. They have the same tube configuration.
Sounds nice, I wonder if you can get some twangier tones after you update it.
Might sound cool with a spring reverb.
Fullosound! Nice gritty tone. I have a newer projector with EL84s but haven't used it yet so I'll be watching...
That old Epi sounded great through it. I'd totally track with a rig like that- a great secret weapon for the studio!

Glorious.
Great! Very beautiful. Nowadays we have pedals like mosky bb box that does the same for 20 dollars.

Kinda reminds me of an AC4 😊

I like it, good score!
Those connectors look similar to whats on a Lesley cabinet.
Great stuff! I’ve got some NOS tubes for that little gem if you’re interested.

Filmosound retromods are already pretty well-known among players who pay attention to the boutique amp world
Getting hard to find for cheap. Almost cheaper to buy new parts.

this would be a great preamp for a Randall Commander!
In the 70s, we used to plug a radio amp or similar into a guitar amp to create distortion.
Sounds Hiwatt ish. Very nice, clear tone.
Lovely
I will confess that I only know about these because of the Walrus 385 pedal and their explanation of the Bell & Howell trick.
Very clever - any way to know how many watts of output for that unit?
very cool

How many watts and how loud was this cool vintage amp?
Pretty 🆒👍😊
😢cool! Dude you got an amp!
Awesome cool 😂
Wasn't this exact video uploaded years ago?
what is the purpose of the bread pan?
So, what was the bread pan for? Did I miss it?
It reduces noise. I'm not sure exactly what it's doing but it may be shielding one of the tubes. It's a lot noisier without the bread pan.
Josh homme probably has one of these already.
Cool!
Cool , but will it Chug ?!!
No
The word is out on these.
Try an old old Bogen PA amp .....
But you didn’t explain it later!! What’s with the bread pan? Dashnerds need to know.
ua-cam.com/video/l57oXyCt8oY/v-deo.htmlsi=_2WTxY-CQiqDN7Pr&t=148 😊
It’s a little short on shielding
Yep. Shields a bit to reduce noise.
Half a Faraday cage.
Chicken in the breadpan....pickin out dough..
cool
Sounded WAY better without cimpression pedal.
Metallica must have meant breadpan and not bread fan. Now I see why.

I HATE CLEAN
@DashnerGuitars GO hide behind Mudd buzz then 😂
It would be great to hear it clean, not dimed... that's where tone gets sweet. Not every guitarist plays with dirt.
Old radios make wild guitar amps .
just disconnect the radio and plug in a guitar .
Very clipped diode
There’s a reason why Filmosound didn’t make guitar amplifiers.
Sample it for these new fangled amps
And sell it
This is a thing now
What exactly is happening here that my boss katana is not doing?

Try a Walrus 385 pedal if you want this sort of sound on your Kat. It's based on these old Bell & Howell Filmosounds.

Pretty sure there are pedals that emulate this nowadays.
