Just finished the job! Thank you for the cutoff idea it worked great. I ordered the same c press. I was able to get the ball joints in about half way with the Milwaukee lil stubby and a deep impact socket. Than used a 3 foot cheater bar and it went in nice and smooth. I am so relieved this job is finally done. 🎉🇺🇲👍
@@PhoRunner sorry I commented before I saw the entire video. I think there's a kit that you can use so you don't have to cut the threaded part on the ball joint that attaches to the big c-calmp.
I had really good luck with the freedom off-road UCA's with upper ball joints. Larger control arms that fix the positive camber from the Bilstein lift. Those upper ball joints are good, but with the lift they are stressed much more than when the truck was at stock level.
Hey. I’m not sure how to get in touch with you but first of all, we LOVE your channel!! So helpful, thorough, informative! Please please help, I’d like to get help doing my wheel bearings. I’ve been looking for a video like this but haven’t been able to locate one from your channel. TY!!
Hello, your really knowledgeable about these 3rd gen 4 runners. I been wanting one for a while. But I here that these rust amd they have alot of issues, is there a specific year that I should avoid within these 3rd gen?
Another great video, Thank you. now that you've had your Bilstein's on for a while would you still recommend them or another brand - say the Fox 2.0 or Toytech -Icons?
You use a dial indicator. I didn’t show it but the resistance and up and down play i showed should give you an idea. The passenger one was too worn and not within tolerance for dial indicator
What was the ride height on this runner? I see the bilsteins, and it doesn't seem like you have extended brake lines. I'm getting ready to install a 2.5" lift and am currently waiting on extended lines, but am curious if I should wait for those or just get everything installed first
Sir, I am from the 559 and have fell into a 2000 4runner with 86k miles, do you do work on them? If so, I would love to talk to you about maybe a project??
? curious about how many miles on your rig at the time of this task/filming... that RH UBJ had a lot of wiggle in it, is that non-normal? ... I have a '97 taco with 340k and still have the factory UBJs and wonder if they are toasted by now lol... its already roached 3 LH wheel bearings so far and no clue what keeps going on
@@PhoRunner I have had the wobble since I bought my 2002 Runner in 2019. Just mounted new tires and still have the wobble. Next, upper and lower ball joints
Swap the tires front to back and see if it wobbles. Believe me, mine wobbled after I changed out the whole front end. Had 3 places balance it and finally got it decent the last time. He used a lot of weights and said most shops skimp and do bare minimum weights. Road force balance helps too
@@PhoRunner i get my rig's wheel balance checked at DT discount tire every rotation... new tires going on there tomorrow in fact... is this a shop that would skimpy on the weights in your opinion or experience
Could you just use a longer 27 mm socket and avoid using the grinder? I feel as though the length of the socket maybe was the only reason it was in the way
@@PhoRunner ah yes! Thanks! You did mention that in the vid, missed it the first time. I'm trying this exact job tomorrow for a work friend. Trying a Dremel tool w/ an attachment...
Hi guys, I like very much your channel and have a good contents too. I got a Toyota Prado S90 and I would like to know whether is possible to swap the front suspension to a Toyota Hilux D4D or prado 2005 duo to lower ball joint issue?
Since I’m doing the whole assembly of, lower/upper ball joints, inner/outer tie rods, sway-bar links, and both control arm bushings, would you recommend that I just remove the control arms entirely and work on the joints all separated? Also does the order matter? Thank you for the input!
@@ernestogarcia8014 what did you end up doing im currently doing this but kind of stuck on what to do first. i got almost everything out except upper ball joint cause my lower c arm is out.

The tool guide saved me. I needed to fix one in another state….had all the tools ready.
Nice.
nice to see you back, love your stuff & how thorough it is
Thanks!!
super awesome detail!! you covered absolutely all the points on how to do this. Thanks for making our lives easier.
No problem!
Haha, i unsubscribed thinking you sold it, good to know you still 4run!!
Subscribed!
Lol ouch
Great video Minh, you definitely made it look easy, that upper ball joint is a pita
With the right tools and technique, it’s not too bad!! Took 2 hours with filming for one side and 1 hour without filming for the other :)
Great video, and thank you! Just finished both sides on a tacoma following your steps. Great work!
I think you could rent the "4wd cup kit" or whatever it's called from O'Reillys aswell
Yeah that’s what I used

It can not be better explain the way you did. Awesome 👏
There is a better way! When I get an opportunity, I will show it but I linked an post in my description on the best method!!
Thanks a lot, another one of your videos to get me through a project!!

excellent !! thanks for your time in filming this !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great step by step video. Thanks man

Great video as always! You should do a video showcasing both inner and outer tie rods!
thanks for watching!
Well that saved my summer!

It’s in my manual hub video. Check it out since I rebuild the entire front spindle in there and that includes the wheel bearing
Find me on Instagram. Check my video description for info
Thank you so very much for such a quick response! I’ll go and look for you on instagram.
Love your vids! Do you think you could make a playlist of all your videos containing fluid changes for a 3rd gen 4Runner?
Thanks!
I think it’s under maintenance playlist
Thank you very much brother!!!!
Good job Doctor.thanks.
You are welcome
Hello, your really knowledgeable about these 3rd gen 4 runners. I been wanting one for a while. But I here that these rust amd they have alot of issues, is there a specific year that I should avoid within these 3rd gen?
They all rust in the salt belt areas. Buying one in a non rusty location is key.
Another great video, Thank you. now that you've had your Bilstein's on for a while would you still recommend them or another brand - say the Fox 2.0 or Toytech -Icons?
I don’t have any experience with those. The Billy’s seem fine for me.
Great video going to try replacing my upper ball joints this weekend what is the model number on the ball joint service kit by OTC
Good luck!
Very detailed video…!!!🤙🏽…what brand of jaw puller you have.? TIA
Otc
just curious what kind of grease do you recommend for reboot
I used the one that came with the boot kit
How do you test for upper ball joint failure on the 3rd gen 4Runner? Maybe this is the reason why my car is pulling to the right..

Not needed for front. For rear, this is fine without extending brake line.
This is a 2” lift

Timberline off-road, northside 4x4
would the Moog upper ball joint be okay? or do I treat this part just like the lower ball joint?
Should be ok but likely your uppers are fine! Just reboot?
Did you also replace the CV axles?
We did not. But we need to reboot them

I haven’t yet
Can a 3 jaw puller work instead of a 2 arm puller? That’s all that’s available to me at the autoparts store
Sure can

Usually yes but Id just get it checked or drive it and see how it feels. this shouldn’t be moving things too much to need an alignment.
