"Modders will fix it" Is a statement that tells me how shit Bethesda has allowed their games to become. And people defend that statement which is wild.
It’s why I say fans are like half the reason Bethesda is the way they are. I can’t think of another company that can release buggy games at launch, but the hardcore fans will ignore it. Like as bad companies go, I think maybe EA looks less bad than Bethesda.
because people get trapped in those addictive gameplay loops, they couldn’t care less about the story. they just want a new game to get addicted too, and bethesda is their fix that they keep letting off scot free
bethesda makes me feel insane. They could have their own new vegas or another morrowind but instead they keep these childish writers and game designers around
But we may get another Daggerfall. As much as I love Morrowind, the freedom in Daggerfall is insane and LeFay and Peterson are making a successor, "The Wayward Realms".
@@nicholasmorgan7609honestly i dont think bethesda has the hability or seer scope of making a daggerfall like there are so much things in that game that would be impossible to brought back
Interplay wouldve done the same exact thing if they were still around. If memory suits me right, one of their cancelled Fallout projects had you traveling from America to China with a team of BoS soldiers.

When they saw that other companies, Obsidian in this case, could make a Bethesda game better than Bethesda, it scared the shit out of them. That is why we never got another New Vegas.
Problem with your take... Obsidian (mostly former Interplay/Black Isle developers who developed the first two Fallouts) was making an Interplay/Black Isle Fallout game better then Bethesda could make a Fallout game, using the Bethesda engine, under an artificial constraint of time imposed by Bethesda!
I thought New Vegas was severely over-rated. More RPG elements and choices than FO3, sure... but that, and iron-sights was about the only thing it did better for me. I know it's meant to be a desert, but not only did the map feel empty but also severely lacking in details and locations. Felt way too spaced out. I thought the story and factions were awful too. The majority of the game was one massive chore for me. I honestly don't see what everyone else sees in it.
@@namelastname1085that’s a fair judgment to make, and that’s Bethesda’s fault. We are owed a good RPG with strong RPG elements like New Vegas. They only gave Obsidian 18 months to make New Vegas, and we were given a tiny taste of what a good fallout game could look like. I think its shameful that Bethesda never tried to expand on the strong rpg elements ever again These days, new vegas is only good with mods. I love that game more than anything, but not even I would ever play it unmodded again. I can only hope that one day we get a proper New Vegas remake, like an actual remake - new engine, new gameplay mechanics, flesh out the Legion, make the Strip bigger, make the gunplay phenomenal, and more

Fellow NV supremacist here. Some really good points you make , but I do think it's a bit reductive to pin quite so much direct blame solely onto Toddy, or any singular face in a group. Like , ofc he has had an outsized role in those decisions to keep the IP's on ice instead of maximizing their potential, but in reality these decisions are hardly made in a vacuum and rarely the result purely of a single man's ego-stroking. If we replaced Tod, would we really expect Bethesda to bevahe so differently to now ? I think it's kinda the same for those who are like "Emil is the devil" and believe that the whole of Starfield's writing woes are due to the incomprehensible incompetence of this single developer.
But Emil is the head writer, who has made the conscious choice to abandon design documents and just not care about lore. He's admitted it. I don't see why we shouldn't blame him for bad writing. As for Todd, I can't say--he's the mouthpiece but I don't know how powerful he really is.
@@billjacobs521 I don't mean to suggest that there's no fault to be had , especially if you're lead of your team - but in his case there are still other game design and production requirements that inform the math a lead or team leader might make. I'm only as informed as a outsider can be with respect to internal power dynamics, operations, culture, hierarchy , or whatever else at Beth that might count towards that math. Which is why I'm always hesitant to just point and say this particular person is the sole cause of the thing I like sucking. Because usually its more complex than that. Like, if they replaced Emil, can we really posit that we'd get better writing ? Why ? Clearly in SF's case , it was a poor call to disregard any sort of conventional narrative documentation that may have helped in making a more cohesive narrative - at the same time I would find it doubtful that Emil himself as Lead Writer AND Design Director could conceivably be the sole cause for SF's issues. He was probably in Google meetings more often than he ever wrote. If , hypothetically , Emil didn't respect or cherish the input of his subordinate team members, was then replaced with someone with the same issue of not listening, it could then be argued that its a company culture issue rather than a strictly Emil issue. When it comes to Todd its the same thing. Yes, you're the CD and its your ship to captain, but at the same time CD's aren't kings and require the cooperation and support of their team to make anything happen. People who may have differing interests, motives, philosophies, or whatever else. All I'm saying is that blaming any single person for the debilitating issues facing a massive multi-whateverillion dollar, several-hundred person strong company is kinda naïve and ignoring that projects like Bethesda are not small indie studios and don't function like one.
God, remember when Bottle caps actually had a world building explanation for why they became currency? It used to be that the water merchants in The Hub managed to get an old bottling facility back up and running and would accept the caps for a discount on the next shipment of water. By Fallout 2 this was made obsolete as the NCR dollar which was backed by gold, but between Fallout 2 and New Vegas a war between the NCR and BoS led to the NCR’s gold supply getting destroyed which meant The Hub’s water barons had all of the monetary power again.
With Bethesda's track record of dumbing down all their subsequent titles, horrific quality control and increasing mediocrity & hostility towards modders- my hope for a good fallout or elder scrolls sequel is at an all time low...
Dude just let it go. Let them bury themselves. Little Klaus and his buddies need to make it look the way that "things just happened the way they did" without their involvement so people don't go after them in the "you will own nothing and be happy" world they envisioned. Part of the process is souring everything you ever loved so you get demoralized to a point where you voluntarily let it go.
I felt like I agreed on the entire video up until the half, where it started to feel like you became misdirected by the online usual rethoric of blaming Todd for everything without looking at the deeper picture. At no point I saw mention of Emil Pagliarulo's design philosophy that came about from fucking up the design document for Fallout 3, how the company that made FO76 is not the main Bethesda team, but rather, a B-team that pulled all the stops to try and drill into the spaghetti code they were given and actually managed to make FO76's engine somewhat stable. That alone is a feat (regardless of game content) that Bethesda Maryland wouldn't even bother with. I didn't see how the company has an insanely low new hire retention rate, how people come and go and the technicians capable of reprogramming the engine are long gone, how each employee essentially does the best they can with what they have and know, because the company prides itself on improvizing without a centralized documentation database (courtesy again, of Emil), that includes not just design but also technical specs on how to wrangle the engine. So short of fixing it, Bethesda duct tape extensions onto it as stopgap solutions (Fallout 4's UI/HUD is an emulated Shockwave Flash player, for instance!). The notion that modders do a better job than Bethesda critically comes from modders at least having multiple centralized wikis to coordinate knowledge from. Blame Emil for making this taboo at Bethesda. I also saw at no point mention of Robert Atlman, the late CEO, who signed that investment deal with the Providence Inc. Banking corporation that proudly advertised Zenimax/Bethesda on their website, for maxing out income for the next 5 years starting 2015, which explains all of the weird maximized profit bollocks we've seen Bethesda do with their games and owned IPs (hello, Wolfenstein 2, hello Youngblood, hello Doom Eternal, hello paid mods, etc), because Zenimax would therefore get a stock market permit with a higher rank on opening day, depending on their performance. That deal fell under and soon after, Atlman died and Microsoft conveniently waited the end of that publicly known contractual probation period to snipe an acquisition out of them. I think your video is pretty great on many points, but it really does feel like at some point you stopped carrying out your own analysis and started to parrot (no pun intended) the same overcooked and convenient good-vs-evil talking points people love to regurgitate online without looking at the whole crime scene.
i was about to write this until i saw your comment. You are exactly, 100% right. Look, New Vegas is mt favourite game ever. I also adore Fallout 3, love Fallout 4 despite its lack of endings which i really disliked and all things considered, i found Fallout 76 to be mostly enjoyable experience with maybe few quests being grindy and boring to me (looking at you main questline + Skyline Valley) and i also agree that Emil's writing leaves so much room for improvement. BUT this backwards tribalism of new-age New Vegas fans just baffles. While i agree Starfield is not quite a game everybody had envisioned to game, these crybabies bash Bethesda as being this "invisible haters of New Vegas, a boogeyman like the Institute from Fallout 4" What a pathetic bunch of losers, i can also say the same in the polar opposite, where there are people gatekeeping Bethesda Fallouts and telling that New Vegas and classics are not even "good games. These people can't even grasp the single concept of letting people enjoy their favourite Fallout. It matters not if you enjoy New Vegas, 3; 4 and/or 76 exclusively, just be happy they exist, man. Fallout fans themselves are the biggest haters of Fallout and its fans and that's sad to look at.
@@Gun_Metal_Grey "These people can't even grasp the single concept of letting people enjoy their favourite Fallout." @@billjacobs521 What's this even about? If you (or anyone for that matter), want a case where a game series is truly doomed, look no further than Rockstar's publisher killing off the ability to purchase the classic versions of GTA3/VC/San andreas in order to force people to buy an inferior remaster coded by a half competent team. Long as people can buy the games of a series, it lives on. Stripping the ability for new people to experience a classic, or any opus of a franchise, is what kills it. I love the Stargate TV shows, for example, and the constant chaotic shuffling of ownership right claims from MGM, Amazon, Tencent and whoever else, broke the airing rights apart, and has rendered the chances of newcomers enjoying Stargate SG1/Atlantis/Universe close to nil. That's how you also fuck up a franchise. Just to give some perspective, I hope.
You should double check the credits on FO76, the main team did make it. There was a gas-lighting campaign to convince you otherwise, but there's a reason it took them so long to get Starfield out, everyone was working on FO76 for years
The Fallout Show killed my investment in the series. It's been 200 years after the war and it feels like it's been 40 years after. All the build up and development California had from 3 games was flushed down the drain
It always felt like way less than 200 years. You really think after 200 years cities wouldn't be in complete shambles and there would be ANY sort of food or items with labels on them etc? The 200 years thing was needed to explain radiation, which in retrospect they likely hated because it limited what they could realistically do. Likewise, in every FO people still live in ramshakel shtholes and that's not realistic either. People would rebuild by then, cities would be back to normal. So yes it feels like maybe 40 years lol. That's what happens when the original devs had one vision and Bethesda had another.
Bethesda had the recipe for success after what New Vegas did with the role-playing but they abandoned it like how Rockstar abandoned Max Payne 3s combat mechanics. They are allergic to greatness I say
They wanted to appeal to a broader audience. Say what you will about BSG but ever since they dumbed down their games they have been more popular. They haven't made a good RPG since morrowind. Not to say the other game's aren't good but they are very RPG lite.

I'll admit that Morrowind was a little more janky of an experience, but when I saw that as part of its charm. I remember when playing Oblivion that the main thought going through my head was how the quality of the writing was a big step down from Morrowind, and the world building was leagues less interesting. For instance, the afore mentioned house Telvanni was a clan of powerful reclusive mages who mostly just want to be left alone to conduct their research. Their homes are all grown from mushrooms and there's no stairs connecting the upper and lower sections, which means if you aren't a spellcaster at least powerful enough to cast levitate to float up and reach them in the inaccessible areas, they see you as beneath them and don't even want to talk to you. Fallout New Vegas devs were using ideas from the original fallout 3 project, from when interplay owned the rights. They also worked on Fallout 2, they knew fallout in and out. That is why it's so different than Bethesda Fallout, because it is a direct continuation of the original games. Bethesda made elder scrolls: fallout, what they knew how to make, and catered it to consoles because that's where the money was. If you think about it, Bethesda only ever makes elders scrolls games with different skins and more mainstream appeal.
That's the thing- Fallout 1, 2, and NV are a story arc. Specifically, the story of how the NCR rebuilt civilization after the war. And Bethesda didn't like that, so they had Amazon wipe it out off screen so they could make more post-apocalypse themed Skinner boxes.

Not gonna happen. 343 was not only everything that Bethesda is and was - it was directly ADVERTISED as "People who have Halo hired to make a Halo game". Unlike Bethesda's lying ass they never hid the fact fhat they hated Halo and it's fanbase and only started to get the boot when it was crystal clear that fans ran out of copium and cannot ignore the flaws anymore. Bethesda's biggest achievement is their PsyOp of "The game are good, actually, just need a little mods to tweak tbem" and "Bethesda cares about their fans!". I haven't seen so much copium in the air EVER IN MY LIFE as there is in the Fallout fandom after the TV Show. The fans, the content creators, the randos that just discovered the franchise via the show, they're brainwashed like a giggle of crack whores! I'm afraid Bethesda is gonna be quite prosperous for a while.
Bethesda is doing well, they've been sweeping the protesting fans of the RPG genre under the carpet for 2 decades. 76 almost made them tank. But you know how the general player base still buys their games, regardless. But even then, all those NV fans and even a lot of the original fallouts stans, I can guarantee you that they still owned at some point a copy of Fallout 4, with all their critiques and everything, they still bought it.
the spikes in player numbers already died out. it was tourists. people like "oh my god fallout tv show" and they went and played fallout 4. realized its shit and broken because anniversary update (console especially since theres no actual fix) and then left. the numbers are pretty much back to normal now.
the fact the released the "next gen" patch that makes the game worse at the time the show came out instead of on halloween like they initially gonna release it so the tourists can enjoy betheda fallout in its true form is still hilarious to me.
Actually I don't think we are down to normal numbers. Some tourists still remain and fill the gaps of die hard fans who stopped playing. Once the hype truly dies down and these tourists move on, the numbers will be even lower. I'm a console player but havent played religiously since the updates. I occasionally log in to check for new mods, but ports are a trickle these days and some mods being taken down both on skyrim and follow 4. Modders and porters interest is waining, and with mods being what's keeping these games alive, I believe bethesda is heading for a massive downfall.
Sales don't mean much, the gaming industry is much, much bigger than it used to Salesbe so of course sales numbers are bigger than they used to be. Doesn't mean the newer games are better....
I know this will sound tinfoil hat, but I believe bethesda continuously dolling out random patches every few months to years is because they: 1) Want to grift modded content for money from suckers. 2) Prevent modders from releasing ground-breaking mods that upstage their writing/gameplay. I've noticed this for a decade now, because 10 years ago they weren't dolling out patches to just stifle modders, not like they are today, where the patch notes barely even make a difference and most of the patches aren't even geared for PC specific issues, let alone performance updates (the last PC specific update we got was with Skyrim Special edition way back in 2016 and that added refined mod support). I do believe that Todd is the kind of guy that absolutely hates being upstaged, and him blaming game performance on people not upgrading their machines tells me just that. He doesn't like to admit he's wrong, that he's behind the times or that they are one of the laziest studios on the planet for using such an outdated engine.
They absolutely wanna grift money out of "premium mods" but the announced the next gen patch over a year ago. The timing of the drop was a little suspicious but not out of the realm of possibility
But do you know what an outdated engine is? Unreal could be a outdated engine, Call of Duties IW engine could be outdated? All the engines have their own gimmicks, because these 2 engines i named are basically as old as the Creation Engine, they're all just updated versions. If Bethesda switches Engines, they're going to do the same thing, it's what Bethesda Game Studios do,they like to push the engines to its limits, no matter what engine they're working on. They're too ambitious for their own good.
@@it2spooky4me79 Yes I do, the "every engine is perfect" argument is a myth in the face that it makes everyone a retard and one person on the net some genius, which really isn't how reality works. Fallout 4 was an ok game. The story was lame and the “rpg” concepts were premature at best, which is what I think they were aiming for. I played it twice I think and never completed it once. As opposed to 3, New Vegas which I completed at least twice each.
The only reason to play a modern Bethesda title is to mod the fuck out of it so you can play a better game on the scaffold they made with their bad game. I prefer to just play other games.
Aye, there's a reason why Skyrim's best mods are either whole game overhauls (like Requiem) or set their adventures in entirely new areas completely divorced from the original game (like Enderal). Pretty much everyone I know that has the game on PC adds *AT LEAST* 20 mods just to make it playable and fun - the unofficial patch, an ENB for visuals, some manner of combat, perk, magic and enemy overhauls, a difficulty mod that changes the dogwater "difficulty" system from vanilla, etc etc. Speaks volumes that you can just pick up Morrowind or New Vegas or even Fallout 3 and have a good time, but Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 4 need mods to be playable.
@@JRexRegismy guy, Skyrim is a good and fun base game. The problem with Skyrim entirely lies in the fact that the modding community being so accessible and large, it’s become more popular than the base game. Skyrim itself is an awesome game. Sure there are a few glitches, but it’s not unplayable.
Obsidian Entertainment (Black Isle Studios) should have full control over Fallout. It's their baby. Bethesda never really understood the world of Fallout.
Considering how shit the Creation Kit actually is... No wonder their games are so bugged... while at the same time, it makes modders look even more competent than you'd actually realise.
I dabbled in personal modding in Morrowind and Oblivion and I can guarantee you: They are doing it on purpose. In Morrowind the Construction Set was easy and robust enough that you could make a mod in 5 minutes. Oblivion was already noticeably harder to mod and with Skyrim some modders outright gave up on moving their shit to Fallout 4, because they knew it wouldn't be any easier.

And in the end you still need a script extender, so there's no actual difference over TESscript that pre-Skyrim NetImmerse games used.
The problem with modern Fallout is that Bethesda is literally too afraid to let the world change and move on. For some bizarre reason they seem dead-set on wanting it to be this stagnant silly apocalyptic franchise that doesn't want to move past the bombing of the world (200+ years ago) and wants to just revel in playing in trash, bomb craters and buildings that will never be repaired.
That's a unaware take. That's the WHOLE point of Fallout the world is frozen after the bombs dropped. That is one of the core elements of it and what makes Fallout, Fallout. If you want a world to be rebuilt after a apocalypse then there are other games with that focus.
@@PeterHarlequinWhite Isn't that a bit contradictory when we had 1, 2, and New Vegas showing the world moving on, growing, and changing? Shady Sands grew and expanded till it had become a massive empire controlling the California region and bleeding into the surrounding states. This in the course of less than a century. Contrast that to 3 and 4 where the world is still stuck unable to form communities, cities, regional powers, and can't even get a new building made. The world advancing Between Fallout 1 and 2 we see the wasteland go from small towns with a few settlements with ~25 people living in them to towns everywhere and several cities with hundreds or thousands of residences (lore-wise not what's shown in game). They establish trade, currency, jobs, politics, militaries, everything you need to call yourself a country. In New Vegas we see factions start to crumble, the Brotherhood, once the most powerful faction in the wasteland usurped by the NCR, which is also starting to reach the limits of it's power. Just because the factions die doesn't mean everyone spontaneously forgets how to be civilized and just goes back to being raiders. Hell look at real-world civil wars (closest thing we have to compare to Fallout). The major power is challenged, there is temporary anarchy, then a new power is established and order is slowly restored until a new faction shows up and repeat endlessly. The line 'war never changes' is referring to the factions / people, not the world. That's the 'whole point' of Fallout. Not the 1950's retrofuture world that was nuked. It's a POST-apocalypse game, the apocalypse isn't the focus, what comes AFTER is.
I just wish fallout was more of a RPG game instead of an action adventure with light roleplay elements. My biggest wish for Fallout is to take some inspiration from traditional crpg's like Baldurs gate 3, Pathfinder, and the Divinity: Original Sin series.
Some inspiration? Dude, they literally have New Vegas in their franchise and it blows all of what you recommended in terms of player agency and role playing. All they have to do is copy and improve some of its formula.
Bethesda going to Xbox was their death cry and all that money they put into developers did nothing for their console and I feel like they're turning into a modern day Sega
Every time I hear New Vegas be mentioned as "barely being made" I always thank the lord it was. It's where Fallout as a franchise should have headed, but instead we have a meme Fallout series of "Super Mutant big strong and dumb", "BoS cool military power armor faction", and "200 years but everyone is still living next to skeletons in their house". Please, Microsoft, step in and slap Bethesda into solely Elder Scrolls then give Fallout to Obsidian. I really want a good "Fallout: New Reno" as a New Vegas sequel instead of the inevitable Fallout 5.
Because each release edges their games more and more towards action adventure rather than rpg. Look at starfield. Basically no choice even simple merchants can't die.
Troika offered to buy the fallout IP from interplay so saying Bethesda saved fallout is misleading, fallout wasn't in any danger there was a much better RPG making studio willing to buy the IP, I'm sure Obsidian would have also put their hat in the race to buy the IP too if they could have secured a fund for it.

@@averagemug Obsidian entertainment was founded in 2003, Bethesda bought the fallout IP in 2007, but Obsidian was just a fledgling studio with only two games under their belt (KotOR 2 and NWN 2) by that time while Bethesda had over a decade of experience and game development, had already gone through 2 potential bankruptcies and throughout their growing catalog had 2 games released that were not only critically acclaimed but also completely innovative and revolutionary for their time, which remain to this day 2 of the best RPGs ever made, those being Daggerfall and Morrowind. Bethesda doesn't make RPGs anymore, they haven't arguably since Oblivion, but definitely since fallout 3, they make immersive action-adventure/looter-shooter games with some RPG elements, the same level of RPG elements that call of duty has at this point. Their writing and storytelling have gone completely down the drain, the fixation on not limiting the player based on decisions while on the surface seems great has actually lead to a less meaningful and thus a less impactful game, nevermind the overuse of essential NPCs which devolves into overt handholding, while the accidental soft locking of progression through the death of NPCs like what could happen in Morrowind may be frustrating, and while I understand that the more intricate and indepth the npc pathing and routine cycles became the more necessary the essential tag became to stop necessary NPCs from walking off a cliff to their deaths, or pathing into a hostile npc and getting slaughtered half way across the world away from you locking your progression through no fault of your own, it just seems like a lazy fix and is immensely immersion breaking when you lay into an annoying npc only to watch them stand back up like nothing happened.
But would it have died with Troika then? Much as I love Bloodlines a lot of their final work was horribly buggy. Bloodlines shipped with a game breaking bug and Temple of Elemental Evil was just plain unfinished.
@@Nomisdoowtsae In hindsight certainly but if they did get the fallout IP perhaps if Cain, Anderson and Boyarsky got a hold of their baby then they wouldn't have decline, perhaps they would have been reinvigorated and refocused, they wouldn't have needed to even make bloodlines, instead we would get a fallout 3 that is on par with arcanum.
Fun fact: In Korea, a game dev studio called Project Moon got its headquarters stormed by people calling themselves the Reverb Ensemble, named after a faction from Library of Ruina, PM's second game. They went in, made some demands, and PM actually kowtowed. Now, I'm not saying we should assemble a group calling itself, I dunno, Caesar's Legion, and storm Bethesda's HQ in order to save Fallout, Doom, and so many other franchises they ruined, but somebody really should do that.

It had a memory leak issue where every time you went into a new loading point and came to a new section of the game the RAM use ballooned. I managed to finish the game but you could only play it in small increments because of that memory leak. There is a mod that alleviates a lot of those symptoms but that older engine really didn't like what Obsidian did with it. I also remember getting stuck in walls and objects quite frequently. Learning how to use the console and no clip was somewhat essential. The engine they use is very antiquated, even the more beefed up engine that was used in Fallout 4 is super clunky when compared to modern engines like Unreal 5. They aren't the only study that has suffered this issue. BioWare and the Frostbite engine are another casualty in old clunky engines.
I've got to keep saying this. I don't want a Fallout tv show. I don't want Fallout merchandise. I don't want a Fallout MMO. All I want, is literally just Fallout 5. That's all I want. id rather have more tv show because i already know fallout 5 will be exactly the same as fallout 4 but even worse. that or have literally anyone else make the game
That's the problem, they are human. Todd Howard probably sees himself as the savior of a franchise he once admired. Now that BGS has reached the end of their potential, they've hit a plateau and they know that to invest the time needed to make a decent FO5 they'll be left in the dust by the rest of the industry. FO5 will be Skyrim with guns pt.2 and it'll be 10 years in the future and every other game will be miles beyond them in tech.

Obsidian (mostly former Interplay/Black Isle developers who developed the first two Fallouts) was making an Interplay/Black Isle Fallout game better then Bethesda could make a Fallout game, using the Bethesda engine, under an artificial constraint of time imposed by Bethesda!

@@billjacobs521 What's this even about? If you (or anyone for that matter), want a case where a game series is truly doomed, look no further than Rockstar's publisher killing off the ability to purchase the classic versions of GTA3/VC/San andreas in order to force people to buy an inferior remaster coded by a half competent team.
Long as people can buy the games of a series, it lives on. Stripping the ability for new people to experience a classic, or any opus of a franchise, is what kills it.

Yeah, and the sky is blue.

Big step for wider more casual audience. Oblivion went mainstream, and Skyrim double-down on it. I was in high school when Oblivion released, and I remember that teenagers who never played RPGs, and waere mostly CS and Quake players were very excited and wanted to check out Oblivion.
@@Sithishe Yeah that's fair. I'm a bit older of a gamer, in fact my first Elder Scrolls was Daggerfall, but for me it was Morrowind that came out during my prime gaming years, and yeah it was a formative game for me. Joining House Telvanni, meeting Vivec, this stuff was over 20 years ago but feels like yesterday. That's show-don't-tell style environmental storytelling that I don't see as much anymore

Basically New Vegas IS Fallout 3
That's the thing- Fallout 1, 2, and NV are a story arc. Specifically, the story of how the NCR rebuilt civilization after the war. And Bethesda didn't like that, so they had Amazon wipe it out off screen so they could make more post-apocalypse themed Skinner boxes.

Bethesda needs a reality check , wait a few years that they will be like 343 whit more than 50% of the Studio lay off for pure inconpetence.
@@arkgaharandan5881 It really is peak Bethesda fallout.
Similar to how original fallout 4 players were tourists from Skyrim
Amazon also gave NV and 76 to their prime members for free for a period.
Saddest part is that's also true for Elder Scrolls, with Morrowind being the last actual RPG. But people don't really care.
I know this will sound tinfoil hat, but I believe bethesda continuously dolling out random patches every few months to years is because they:
1) Want to grift modded content for money from suckers.
The timing of the drop was a little suspicious but not out of the realm of possibility
fallout london gave up and just used a downgrader of an old fallout 4 version so everyone can play the mod.

It's honestly enough that Papyrus is one huge memory leak by the virtue of existing, imagine actually using it.
Instead they seem complicit enough to just build a shanty town inside a baseball stadium 200 years later while a functioning city with power, water, and roads is but a stone toss over the wall.
@@Karter_Blackpaw Shady Sands came from a GECK. In FO1,2,NV sure SOME semblance of society reformed, but most people are still living in ruined buildings. @@PeterHarlequinWhite Every single Fallout game that Bethesda didn't work on showed two things:
1. Factions rising and falling in an endless cycle
2. The world advancing
Between Fallout 1 and 2 we see the wasteland go from small towns with a few settlements with ~25 people living in them to towns everywhere and several cities with hundreds or thousands of residences (lore-wise not what's shown in game).

Obsidian didn't exist yet last time I checked. And at the time, Bethesda was a top dog RPG studio, still are really despite Microsoft and Zenimax trying to run the studio into the ground.

So weird. Everyone applauds New Vegas but all i remember is it was buggy dumpster fire that regularly crashed to desktop. It was garbage.

1 - Fallout: New Vegas
2 - Fallout 4
3 - Fallout 3
The writing is just so good that it trumps it’s eh gunplay
People like the Fallout show? I thought it was hilariously misunderstanding the franchise.. then again so does its own developer.
as a show it was good, but as a fallout show it was really bad, and its popular because most of viewers of the show don't know anything about pervious fallouts ... in short theyre tourists
@@Tiner-was-Real its not even good as a show. terrible pacing and world building, just member berries and juvenile slapstick violence with 50's music in the background
@@Tiner-was-Realstrongly disagree. I’m a big fallout fan and loved the show. It captures the tone perfectly imo
Nah the show's good take off the hate boner glasses
But it's sad to think the best Fallout product we've gotten in forever wasn't even a game lol
I may be on the clock, but ive got an appointment with the Doc...ter Skipper
Hard
Don‘t forget to put on your DIOR DIOR jacket
I watched the fallout show and while I overall really enjoyed it, I was REALLY unhappy with them nuking Shady Sands (spoilers). It felt super disrespectful to the origin of the series. Almost like it was done out of spite. I'm not exactly enthusiastic for the future of the franchise anymore. Seems like they just want to commericalize the fuck out of it.
supposed to say spoilers before the spoilers
I'm two episodes in and while it's good filler content, better than most of the mainstream TV trash these days, it's absolutely not a fallout show made for fans, just like the halo show wasn't for halo fans either.
There's so many different things to gripe about in just two episodes that it's unbearable.
I'll nitpick on the biggest thing of all: The brotherhood.
They just cannot let those guys be what they are supposed to be, always gotta make them into jackasses and religious freaks.
You can see the real vision for them in Fallout NV and the first two games
Sell the rights already to someone who will put out a new game every 4 years. 15 years for a sequel is a crime
I'm a Bethesda fan boy to the core, even with that said, I 100% agree with every point this guy makes
Evil Bethesda: hey modders wanne make money🤑
>fallout community collection<
fallout: london, fallout 3 remake, fallout 13, fallout Arroyo
Hold it Skipper, those are a lot of words to say "Bethesda bad".
Is he wrong do...
They'll say you used too many words, but they'll never say you lied.
And?
well therer's no words to say "bethesda good" because that would be a lie
In the gaming wasteland that is modern "rpg" games, one.thing you can know for sure, is that Bethesda, Bethesda never changes.
The UA-camr TwentySided, did a great video essay titled "Bethesda NEVER Understood Fallout"
Fallout has been doomed since the start.
Using Broccoli in the middle tripped me out. Thought Not Like Us was playing in the background or something. Did not expect that.
There's just one thing, SKipper: Chris Avellone, the genius behind Fallout 2, Van Buren and Fallout New Vegas has been robbed by Obsidian leadership.
If Bethesda's a dead husk... so is Obsidian.
Obsidian and Bethesda are one in the same, skin walkers wearing the flesh of the game studio we fell in love with but in reality are nothing remotely similar to the Obsidian that made FNV, KotOR 2, NWN 2, pillars of eternity and to a lesser extent South Park the stick of truth and dungeon siege 3, nor is the Bethesda that made Daggerfall and Morrowind RPGs that were critically acclaimed, were absolutely ahead of their time and are still 2 of the best RPGs to ever have been made, all the ogs that created the world of tamriel and the history of TES are long gone, Todd Howard prompted Emil and everything has been garbage since, Oblivion was the last game to avoid Emil's lead writer/lead director mindlessness that has lead to the decline in writing and consistency where a single game will contradict itself in terms of lore, characters or the coherence the the world itself.
@@Sumoniggro I seriously suspect that Emil was somehow forced onto Howard.
Somehow.
Like - he's some big shot's nephew or something.
@@NikolaAvramov they are longtime friends, it is nepotism but it is Todd Howard helping his buddy out. I honestly think Todd thinks Emil is actually good at what he does.
*cough* Joshua Sawyer *cough*
Anything is better than Bethesda. Also, people think Obsidian's another bad studio because The Outer Worlds was mediocre. But, that game didn't have Sawyer, even as consultant.
I'd give Obsidian another shot at Fallout with him at the helm.
I may be not home, but that doesn’t mean I can’t listen to DoktorSkipper on the way home.
These “Fallout is dying” videos are amazing to me. They’re like the dog showcasings game studios do when they don’t have much left to add to their franchises.
Rent is due, eh Dok?
No Tom Howard, It’s not “just gonna work” anymore!
Fallout 76 isn't Fallout. It's Fortnite with Fallout skin.
Bethesda never saved Fallout. They skinned the corpse, and paraded the mannequin around.
No they saved it from being left in the dirt after Van Buren was canned.
@@1321-k6h They were just the highest bidder, multiple companies wanted the IP at the time, notably including Troika. The IP would have been "saved" regardless, and Fallout 3 sold well simply because Bethesda was a big company who already made games like Morrowind and Oblivion. Never believed that pure popularity is what indicated the quality of a franchise (in that case, all the COD games, NBA2K, and FIFA games would be considered masterpieces on sales numbers alone).
@@DrFudge-ky5ublook I’m not in support for Bethesda but without them we will never get New Vegas to begin with as for Troika I think they closed down a while back so even if they did got it the fallout ip they are still going to get shutdown so fallout ip will be in an different kind of mess the legal kind.
@@1321-k6h better dead and remembered by 500 people than marketed for thousands and dead on arrival
they didn't save it
they ruined it
Bro this video is fucking fire. Editing is amazing.
My god man, listen to your finished product before putting it out. An hour more work would have fixed your audio levels
Your standards are way too high, not everything you listen to has to have perfect audio, just deal with it.
@@MuchDrOrange Spending an hour listening to a video, and then changing a couple volume sliders is not some onerous task. The video is near unlistenable due to the music drowning out Skippers voice.
So my standards aren't too high, my one and only standard is literally "Can clearly hear the speaker".
@timedraven117 no offense but "unlistenable" come on man. You can hear him fine, and tbh you probably just don't have too good of hearing cause no one else is complaining about this.
@@MuchDrOrange I said near unlistenable, and again, an hour to double check your final product is not to much to ask.
How else is skipper exposed to get criticism is people don't say anything?
Insert recent Indigo video and for anyone that knows the slightest about the IP. Bethesda didn't save S#@%. It's more Interplay ran themselves into the ground and subsequently had to cancel Fallout Van Buren. Had Bethesda not bought Fallout it could have very well ended up in Troika's hands.
It’s wild that Bethesda gets away with releasing games in buggy messy and unplayable states
Been waiting for a port of fallout 3 or new Vegas for the PlayStation and it’s been almost 10 years now of absolutely nothing
Bethesda "remaking" new vegas would be terrible. Theyd probably remaster the original release, bugs and all, and not the patched version. Then, they would have no idea how to actually fix it. Then, theyd belike, "see, it was never good to begin with"
Wouldn't it be amazing if we got a Fallout game with Characters/Story as in depth and quality as Cyberpunk 2077 on a modern day game engine?
I know this will never happen. Especially if Bethesda is making the game. But a guy can dream, right?
at this point it's probably a pipe dream
@@jayporter1981 cyberpunk was terrible I'm pretty sure anyone can match that...
We won't go quietly, Bethesda can count on that.
why shit on creation engine when it allows so many people to make mods that rival triple A studios, like i don't get it, you honestly think an unreal 5 game is gonna give you that kind of freedom, it's gonna be the most hard coded and samey looking unreal game cause the engineers at unreal are only paid to make new stuff instead of improving the engine's functionality
Todd literally saying he enjoys new Vegas and likes obsidian
Randome dude on the internet: Actually no cause Todd was clearly jealous
It feels like the blame is solely on the parent company ya know Zenimax who put the metacritic requirement and now Todd is saying yeah we could work with them again since they are owned by Microsoft now. It really feels like you guys need to come up with any reason what so ever be like “ oh actually Todd despises and wish new Vegas/Obsidian dies and never comes back”
Todd said a lot of things in the past
@@GiovanniBallerinii the past was like 1 month an a half ago when he said that he also stated he has no intention in changing fallout 1 or 2 with a remake since they are easily accessible to play in the way he thinks they are meant to be played that being its original form
Eh, I don't think tod really has much SAY over the writing decisions made in Bethesda anyways.
Because War..... war never changes...
Because Bethesda..... Bethesda never changes
bethesda single handedly changed war
I like that you tuned down the adhd editing
Fallout London releases and a Doktor Skipper video about Fallout on the same day? About to celebrate with r34 based.
The Fallout TV Show ruined Fallout Lore. Even though they've been doing it for a while now
This video should to have 5M views.
Summary: New Vegas fanboy rants about Bethesda not wanting to make NV 2.
You're welcome.
0:15 Okay so let me stop you riiiight there. Fallout was not saved by Bethesda. In fact before Bethesda bought Fallout, not only was there was new title in the works (Project Van Buren), but Troika Games (Of Arcanum and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines fame) were looking to take the IP off of Interplay's hands prior.
You’re just wrong. Bethesda bought Fallout in 2007. Van Buren was cancelled in 2003 in favor of Brotherhood of Steel.
Bet Todd is jealous of Fallout London
The fallout nv bonus is not true and has been debunked many times.
These people don't value your time. They deliberately won't give people what they want. They are greedy and their products are bad. They are still riding the popularity from Fallout, exactly how Blizzard are riding the good faith left from Diablo 1. I hope people will value their time better and stop enabling these pos studios
I would’ve loved an Elder Scrolls spinoff from the New Vegas team
From what I hear Enderal is a better RPG on the Skyrim engine. But it's also set in it's own world so there isn't exactly much conenction to TES in terms of lore and world in it.
@@bazzy5644 i tried playing it and it was mostly just people yapping on for hours
having more RPG elements is great and all but you need to actually make the game fun to play as well
I was introduced to gaming through skyrim. But after picking up Red Dead Redemption 2, I can't even bring myself to open Skyrim's game case anymore. And that was BEFORE I started playing New Vegas. Now, having looked back through Bethesda's game catalogue, I can firmly say that Fallout: New Vegas is, and has always been proof that Bethesda was never good at making anything.
Morrowind and Daggerfall were spectacular genre-defining games.
@@patrickdavies9790 i disagree
This video should be titled "why new vegas is the best game and im not biased at all"
real
or "why bethesda hasn't made a single good game since morrowind and mentally dead people can't accept that"
@@ryszakowy oblivion was fire aint even gonna lie
Bethesda, Bethesda never changes
I knew it was bad as soon as I heard of it. Anyone that kept track of what Bethesda nowadays does to Fallout would've seen this coming. The people who disagree are shallow or just never played any of the games.
