    HOF all the way. For ambient stuff i recommend anyone to buy a Neunaber reverb. Sounds at least 20x better then a Strymon. Got less options but still waaay better priced then any Strymon. PLUS you really do get your moneys worth buying a Neunaber.

    Hall of Fame is good enough for almost any live situation unless someone is a solo act in the ambient world and needs to spend buckets of money on a Big Sky.

      Totally agree! Most things we can buy work on the law of diminishing returns. I have recently bought the HoF 2 and am really pleased with it. Plus I like the small footprint (easier to hide from my usually understanding wife!).

    I think the HOF2 is a great pedal, plus with the Toneprint feature and the Mash technology you have a tone of sounds on tap.

    More proof that while the Strymon pedals are wonderful, you don't need to spend that much money (or real estate) to get a fantastic digital reverb. I'm personally using a tc electronic Arena, because I happened to like one of the custom algorithms in that version of the Hall of Fame better, and I see no reason to use anything else.

    the real big difference is, big sky has midi cc facility for communication with DAW. Those who do not need midi the tc in my mind is much superior price advantage (400 bugs) with look to all possibilities and sound looks equal in practice. I like the tc.

  • @kdirty30
    @kdirty30 6 років тому +8

    For the standard plate hall room stuff both are super on par with each other. The big sky has more tweaking options UNTIL you go to the TC Toneprint editor.
    I say for size and sound and value?
    The TC trumps the big sky. Unless you are a fan of the wacky shit the big sky does that I am not a fan of like shimmer and bloom and alk that mess thats un-natural sounds a straight up sound fx.
    I look for real sounding verbs first and foremost. How realistic is the verb to the real thing?
    Others look for ambient soundscapes and stuff.
    But for me? HOF is the winner.
    Only thing I would like on the HOF is BIg Sky's Reflections. But sure that could be dialed in in the editor maybe as well on the HOF.
    Which ever one you get the tool has to serve you what you are after

    I feel like as amazing as the Strymon is, it sounds artificial. I always feel like it’s almost too hi-fi. The reverb sits behind the guitar too much. The HOF sounds more natural and blends in with the signal better. Both are great, just different.

      I don't have the Big Sky, but I have the Blue Sky and think it's very artificial, to the point of unusable, I'm now auditioning alternatives for reverb. Hall Of Fame 2 will be my next try. I may just end up going with a rack reverb in the effects loop.

  • @konnektlive

    To response to those who say the Bigsky has better analog dry, you are wrong. I have a studio running and the fact is that All Strymon pedals change the dry signal when they are on. Their buffer is very dominant and although they sound great but tey aren not the most transparent pedals out there. TC stuff don't have such dominant buffers in them when engaged. They are way more transparent. Maybe that's why some people want to hear 'something which is not there in the first place!'. Big SKy also is too dense IMO. I had it for couple of months, recorded with it, played live sessions and all the reverbs even with low mix and decay were getting on my way playing... The trail of the reverbs were too dense, kinda like synthy reverb? But HOF sounds more natural to me. I actually just tried the Ventris as well and did not like it either. It was overly bright and all those features did not help it to sound good IMO either; only the Spring reverb on that sounded great.
    I think HOF 2 is a great winner in compare to all of these big boys. MXR Reverb is also nice, the PAD preset is wonderful.

      They lie Ohio I also have the BSky but I think it has a different sound to it, a great unique sound too. I think their sounds a mutually exclusive. Every Pedal has it's functions of operation but also quality of the sound overall. Forinstance i have the Boss dd 500, my friend loves it for all its functions but the overall sound charactoristic sounds good but not great to me but to some it's the only pedal you need!! Thanks for the heads up on the Dragon tatoo, I'll ck it out!!

    Haven't seen a lot of Boss RV 500 reviews lately.. I had one for about 2 months and sold it so maybe that's the reason why, it's not a keeper. Lot of deep editing but to much of a digital sound imo, didn't find it very inspiring.

      Should also mention that I've been fucking with software fx for a while now, and from what I can tell, a lot of it is as good as moderate-high quality pedals. TAL's verb 4 is great (though the "lo fi" settings seem worthless), and Valhalla's Supermassive is low-key famous. OldSkoolReverb is also pretty solid.

    I own the Hof and HoF2 and the plate reverb is maybe the best? The shimmer stuff is pretty unusable esp vs Strymon. The longer the trails get...the more you want that Strymon. But the plate gets 80-90% of my time so TC for now

  • @SamVieiraGuitar
    @SamVieiraGuitar Рік тому

    Everyone talks trash about strymon but until you have one under your foot you should have no right to opinion. It sounds and feels different with the guitar on you hands, it sound like heaven and unless I dont remeber right, on certain types of reverb with very long decays every time you play a new chord or new note it decays faster so the new note doesnt mix with the old one, this makes the whole difference because it never gets too busy and mushy.

  • @sinnertrain7405
    @sinnertrain7405 5 років тому +2

    You can't hear $$$ when it comes to gear. Paying more thinking it will be an upgrade may not pan out. Example: I ended up not caring for the Strymon El Capistan and put my TC Electronic Flashback back on my board because it sits better in the mix of a band on the chorus delay setting. That said, my Strymon blueSky is on my pedalboard and is definitely better sounding than my TC Electronic HoF, at least for certain applications. I still have my HoF and have placed it on another smaller pedalboard.

    I swopped from a hof mini to a hof 2 for stereo mainly, use the mini with my bass and acoustic. I have the Timeline so I dont see the reason to go for the Big Sky as well a a lot of the algorithms seems to be in both. Strymon have one pedal in 3 colours with 3 names, and just program them differently! Also true of TC many pedals one set of software! My fender still has that nice reverb in it. As a comparison I think the HOF 2 has enuf given BS is 4 x the price!

      I kind of see what Robert is saying though - it is all about the programming and algorithms. So why is it that my Mr Black Eterna just does shimmer (to my ears) so much better. It is like one algorithm with three simple controls....although with programming - my H9 can also sound great and gives me trails option if I use a buffer.

      Whilst I agree in principle, the reality is, in all but the most telling environments, you dont need the big boy. In a live situation with reduced bandwidth of a guitar amplifier you really dont notice the difference. I have a number of delays. reverbs ( not big sky) and reality is the cheaper ones are fine. In the studio or, playing on your own at home absolutely I go to town!

    The analog dry signal is audibly superior on the Big Sky. Had the HOF and returned it because it sucked tone on my acoustic guitar. Would get the Big Sky if it wasn’t so huge, so expensive and so overloaded with sounds I don’t need. Going to try the MXR M300 soon. Has analog through for the dry signal, seems easy for changing presets on the fly (with push button and lights in different colors), is compact and not expensive. Maybe the Bluesky would also be worth trying. Don’t care for the Polara because of the nasty graphics that make it tough to read labels on stage without glasses and good lighting. Other suggestions for pristine acoustic guitar reverb welcome.

      I bought the HOF specifically to run with my Acoustics. Your experience with it could be due to your pick up. I run a LR Baggs Anthem. Had the Fishman Piezo under saddle with Fishman outboard Preamp. Major improvement going to the Anthem. I also run this thru PAs, Boss, Yamaha, etc., Without any issues. The Strymon is a very nice pedal but having done side by side comparisons with HOF, MXR, and the new L R Baggs, and 3 days of the Fender Marine it does not justify the price/performance decision.
      I have over 40 years pro experience in music. When a product is worth the cost then you buy it, when it isn't you don't. The Big Sky is not worth the cost beyond what you can have well under $200.00 above that it simply doesn't provide anything to warrant buying it. These things sit on Craigslist and EBAY for months unsold once they get compared to a HOF or MXR and shown up.
      Cheers
