This month box included : (2) 10oz steak, 2lbs of Wild-Caught Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, 2lbs of ground beef, 2lbs of wild-caught cod, 2lbs Wild-Caught Sea Scallops, babyback ribs. All organic btw. I paid 169.00 for that. i get to choose what i want in my box every month. I dont consider that to be too expensive. Thanks for the review!

I absolutely love Butcher Box. I have been subscribed for a little over 2 years now. I could get meats locally but I haven't found anyone who grass feeds only. The feed finish the last 2 weeks before butchering. That's like someone who eats really good for their whole life and then binges on MCDonald's for 2 weeks. That ruins the composition of your body and the quality of the meat. I do find the box I get expensive and it is only me and my husband in my home but I always have meat left by the time my next box comes. I have 5 bags of cod in my downstairs freezer because we eat most of the other meats first and only the fish every other week. I gotta change that. Also, families may eat more meat in a serving than what they should. The taste does not taste too much different but its nice to know that the animals are ethically treated over what I have researched about conventional market meats. I tailor my meals in the same way. Easy peasy. Have you even priced the meats you would get in the custom box with what you would buy in the market on a monthly basis? I am so sorry you didn't like it. I have seen Omaha Steaks and the Good Rancher as well but Butcher Box provides the variety I like.

A "mixed box" is on average ~$14-15 per pound of meat.... for pretty basic ass cuts of meat.... that's absurd. I live in a high cost area and paying $150 for 8-10lbs of basic ass meat is insane even by my area's standards. Even if you get a few nice steaks that might be worth that per pound, you're then paying the remainder for chicken breast and ground beef..... lmao it's a terrible deal.
You also don't understand beef finishing. 2 weeks? Do some more research....

Clearly if she is buying conventional, non organic corn fed meats it’s gonna seem expensive. I’m looking for grass fed ethically sourced meat so I appreciate you speaking up. I thought her review was going to be coming from someone who already was eating similar meat.

Thank you for this comment this was what I needed I absolutely do not trust anything coming out of these grocery stores today which is the main reason I am looking for other options. Knowing that they care for their animals is huge and I guarantee already the meat is worth every penny I will be making my way to butcher box.

Using a custom box, i just ordered 18 pounds of meat for $169. I dodnt opt for the premium cuts, i want leaner high peotein cuts.
In the video you mention gking to a farmers market and local shops to find the same quality meats. You can do that, bit you will be spending a massive amout of time sourcing the meats every week.
My box comes out to $9 a pound. That is reasonable by any standard for any cut of meat. The top round roasts can be cut into steaks which essentially gives you 2 pounds of steak.

This is not a service that is meant for people who normally purchase regular meat. Obviously it’s gonna be a lot more expensive. This is a service for people who only want the highest quality, healthiest, most ethically produced meat, and are willing to pay extra for that.

I find your review very interesting. You can find a lot of grass-fed beef in the grocery store, but you cannot find a lot of grass-fed grass finished beef in the grocery store. I think you pay for what you're getting as far as how healthy is the animal throughout its life. That is why I am choosing to stay with butcher box. Like you said in your interview there are other companies that you can go to and get this type of product, but you will pay a lot more for it. I love the seafood, I love their poultry and I love their pork....

We started using Wild Pastures this year which is grass fed and grass finished beef, pasture raised and finished chicken and pork. The boxes are very customizable and more affordable. They are starting to have seafood also. Customer service is very responsive. The only issue we have experienced is a bag or two got a pin hole from transporting frozen. Just put it on a plate to thaw, no big deal.

6 months in a row with bad orders. Everything from their delivery service (UPS) demolishing the box and throwing it back in dirty with warehouse floor grit and dirt on busted packages to improperly sealed packaging from butcherbox themselves. Today is the last straw. Opened a pack of meat that I thawed out in he fridge and it wreaked like days old road kill left out on the side of the road in the summer. I will never order another box of this shit again. Beware, they may actually be using road kill. At this point I wouldn't put it past them.

Another service we've considered doing is a milk subscription, but I haven't taken the time to look up if the milk is any different/better than what we can get at the grocery store (there's a bunch of options even at the store) or if we'd just be paying for the convenience of knowing we'll never run out of milk.

  • @ScryGL

If you're aiming for grass-fed grass-finished, its a convenient option. Local sourcing would be ideal but with other focuses in life butcherbox seems like a decent option until I figure that out. As fro the shipping concern, some places locally source but a lot of stuff is shipped from all over. If everything is done efficiently, direct delivery systems like butcherbox might have potential to be more direct and less wasteful than shipping to stores. I've only gotten one box so far but it seems like quality stuff.

I saw several sponsorships for this and I looked it up myself! While I would love to purchase grass fed beef and the highest quality meat all the time, it’s not in our budget. We don’t have a ton of freezer space to store it and I tend to buy only one or two types of meat and then I cook it in different ways so I don’t think it would be that useful for us either. If our budget changes then I would love to buy from our local farmers market instead! The convenience aspect is good but I don’t think it’s the best option for our family right now. Thanks for your honest review! It’s appreciated ☺️

as a butcher, i agree with the idea of a curated box from an ethical supplier works wonders for us . But as an Irishman i find it odd/comical on the grass fed grass finished bs you are led to believe. more so as an Irish butcher in Ireland this is alien to me. Almost all butcher shops will do home delivery here for no extra cost {service charge as you say] , not out of competition with others or such, but just to sort out our customers requests. if i don't have a particular item in stock, i source from another butcher, and in return he does the same , more competition drives the price down but also the quality, working as a group of individuals with a collective mindset with a desired goal achieves that we all get a fair market share, a following of customers but acknowledgement of willing to loose a customer to a fellow brother in knives, and he in turn passes it to another, and so forth. if you read this fair do lol. Respect what you eat, Respect its life, respect those who prepared it in a humane way and the costs involved in it, that took time, attention and detail , thats the costs associated with a butcher shop

For someone that has PhD in nutrition and is a dietitian, I find it hard to believe you recommend or eat grain fed beef. Most all corn fed beef eats GMO corn which is bad for your health. That is why 100% organic grass fed is better choice to recommend. Butcherbox is pricey but you do get what you pay for. Not for everyone who can not afford, but for someone who can, highly recommend investing in your health.

Like you said if you aren't working on a budget for food or if the time and money spent going to the grocery store costs to much of your time away from work and gas or uber then this might be an option. Here in Canada most of us have to check sales etc because the prices have really gone through the roof. My daughter on the other hand might benefit from food delivery because she is alone work long hours at her desk online and would need to stop work and pay for an uber there and back which adds up as well. And since you seem to be making an asinine environmentalist claim: you would also be saving on the added impact of shipping, packaging, climate controlled storage, etc. Farmed fish are also more sustainable than wild caught, even though they tout wild on their website... because it's a marketing ploy.... they don't give a shit about anything other than convincing people like you to overpay them.

I decided not to do the subscription based on price. But honestly these days, as a California resident and with the current inflation, the price isn't outrageously higher than grocery stores. But that is only if you want comparable meats. Steak for steak, price is only a bit higher with Butcher box. But that is also why I'm eating less and less steaks and more cheaper cuts like carne asada.
If you have to have quality steaks, and live in a high cost of living area it might work for some. Unfortunately for me, my income isn't increasing with the cost of living so I'm going to have to stick to the cheaper cuts. Thank you for the honest review.

their ground beef contains a lot of gristle and leaves a slight after taste that I can't identify. I don't have anything like from all American places, but these guys get their meat from Australia and other places that allows things that we do not. Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't pure beef in their ground beef. Other companies have been caught doing that with horse meat for over a decade now. You're much better off just going to a local butcher and work with them to get what you need vs. doing ANY of the subscription services. Although again, the ones that are all American don't have the strange taste and gristle in the ground beef so YMMV.

I read recently Butcher Box sources all their beef from Australia, so maybe that's why it tastes weird to me.

It is weird because "ethical" is usually hearsay and largely subjective. Yet, folks would put their own health in jeopardy to feel like their choices are making the world better. Meanwhile, these same folks often go to the polls on Election Day and blindly vote against the canddiates who would ultimately improve the quality of U.S. meat production.

You raised some really good points. I’ve done butcher box for a few years now I will say it’s annoying to wait for the box arrive to plan my meals. We get the cheapest box every other month as a family of 3 which works because we also enjoy a lot of vegetarian meals. However I think I want to price out with local farmers because we have a very tiny grocery store that doesn’t have the options we need. We e accrued free meat for life being a member for so long with Butcher box that our last box was $7 a pound so much better but maybe still not the best value. Thank you for the video!

It sounds like you neither like delivery meat nor prioritize grassfed organic meat.
So ultimately, this is a bit like ordering something you don't personally like via a method you don't like and then giving a 1 star review.

Butcher box does not HAVE to be so expensive for the products they offer. TINY steaks and other tiny cuts of meat and they upcharge by 2-3 times sometimes more than that for products one can easily find in speciality stores and farmers markets much cheaper. Unless you live in absolute BFE, grass fed and finished beef is literally sold everywhere. Not wanting to pay triple for mediocre beef and tiny cuts is 100% an honest and warranted review. As someone that personally knows a former BB employee, “organic” is a bullshit marketing scheme that too many companies push as some sort of rationale for ripping off ignorant people. I believe you missed the entire point of why Butcher Box is a thing... Butcher Box is a higher quality meat product that does not contain meat fillers and pesticide fed food to the animals. Yes, you can buy cheaper meat at the stores, but what is in that meat? Pink Slime? Glyphosate? I was about halfway through before I realized this wasn't about Butcher Box's practices or false advertisement, but based on taste and value. With anything, it takes time for our taste buds to like something other than what we are use to and that doesn't happen overnight. Corn fed animals are eating a diet full of GMOs and that is passed on the human. We consume what they are consuming and we get ill from it.

So if I want good quality meat, I can A Pay a bit more for butcher box or B go and try to find farmers markets or butchers to conduct survey? So waste gas instead of paying an amount you didn't honestly compare fairly?
I remember my mom and stepdad came to vist and I had cooked something from butcher box. My mom works at a grocery store, fysa. She asked what I did to make the roast taste so good, it was her recipe, no changes.
If I cook for other people over, or have cookouts I'm always asked where I how I cooked it, where I get my meat. Maybe you just got a bad box, I don't know. But this video just poped in my feed and to see the thing I've had zero issues with be slammed like it's a scam, just seems suspect.

The amount of omega-3s in grass fed vs grain fed is more, but the difference is still VERY small. If you need more omega 3s in your diet, grass fed beef is not a fabulous source. And that’s great that the cost works for you, but it does not for everyone. Grass fed is not a necessity. The convenience is fabulous, but not everyone wants to or can pay for that convenience.

If you cant tell the difference between the grain fed vs grass fed beef, don't even bother talking nonsense. Refer to meat analyses about health benefits. All the rest about the price is just .... nothing. Your lower budget is not our problem. You are talking also to some people whose budget is not a problem, but even if, the meat quality of grass fed meat is far more superior. You are talking meat, meat. No, its grass fed meat vs grain fed meat. Two different things. Grain fed livestock should be much cheaper than it is now. BTW, I have no idea what butcherbox is, just replying to your comments. I have some animals growing on grass and pasture and I will never ever eat grain fed meat. Livestock are not meant to eat grains, seeds. They are made to eat grass. You don't say that! You don't know that and you cant afford your health through healthy food. Sorry if I disappointed you but my honest answer. Would I buy from them? No. Im not 100% sure it is 100% grass fed and I know what does a grass fed meat looks like.

  • @cugglymonster
    @cugglymonster Рік тому +1

Butcher Box is way overhyped and way overpriced. I also don’t believe their claims about the animals being so ethically treated while alive and the animals are 100% grass fed and finished.
Here’s the deal, beef is beef and you can find everything they offer elsewhere for WAY cheaper. Same for pork and chicken.
During these times of extreme inflation, it’s frivolous to be paying three times the cost for your meat because you bought into the “organic” marketing scheme.
Eating meat isn’t really ever going to be ethical and most people in the industry will tell you that “organic” is 100% a marketing ploy and “organic” always costs 2-3 times or more than non-organic.

*_If you're comparing butcher box to what you buy in the grocery store then I think your review is ridiculous. Based on the common sense I have I would say you're not a butcher box quality meat buyer but rather you're a bottom rung cheap meat buying customer and I would further say Based on looking at your channel the only reason you really made this video was more to create a video for clicks and views to help your channel._* *_If you were really honest about doing a review on Butcher Box you would have compared this to a company like Omaha Steaks which is almost twice as expensive as Butcher Box. I Decided to make my first Butcher Box purchase today after looking at many reviews and the reason I chose butcher box was because I don't wanna buy the crap that comes from the grocery store with meat that's mostly coming from Mexico who doesn't certify their meat or have the same standards of meat processing as the United States. And of course I chose butcher box over other choices because of the overall cost !!!_*
