So great to hear someone from your generation appreciate the Love Boat. I get teary eyed when the ships horns blow. Im sorry I didnt get to sail on any of the older ships, I still have a chance to sail Artainia, the ORIGINAL Royal Princess from 1984. So just a slight historical correction, Princess' Lobbies have grown from the original "front office and shops" of Island and Pacific Princess from the 70's and slowly grew with each class of ship introduced. The Atrium on Royal Princess was much bigger than the original ships and then it was kicked up a notch, ironically by the 3 Sitmar Ships Princess got in the purchase agreement in 1988. Star, Crown and Regal Princess' were about 68-70K tons nearly half the size of the current ships. they boasted a 3 deck atrium that incorporated for the first time the Patissierie and Coffee shop and a lovely wine bar, as well as shops, future cruise desk, tours and Front desk. From there, with each class it continued to grow. Sun Princess and her 3 sisters and then the very first Grand Class ship Grand Princess in 1998. She was the blue print for what has become the majority of their fleet.Star and Golden, (Now sailing as Pacific Adventure and Encounter) for P & O Australia, Sapphire, Diamond, Caribbean, Crown, Emerald, Ruby. Their plaza/atrium spaces are wonderful. a great central spot for Entertainment, drinks and snacks. I have not sailed yet on the Royal Class, but do want to try them. But I have heard wonderful things about the smallest two ships left in the fleet Coral and Island Princess. Btw I was just looking at the Discovery Princess' Deck plan, and there are a bunch of cabins that do indeed have seating areas, but they tend to be on deck 7 or 8 lower in the ship at certain points where the passageways move in slightly, if that is a perk you enjoy, the deck plans can assist you in picking cabins for your future guests if they want a seating area in addition to the balcony. Hope to run into you on a future cruise.. Keep up the great work!!!
Thank you so much for watching and your encouragement! I misspoke about the Piazza - I meant to say that the “Piazza” in its current iteration and with its current name was introduced on the current Crown Princess, but thank you for all of that ship history! I hope you do get the chance to sail aboard the original Royal Princess :) Hope to see you on board as well!
That would be lovely... I am rejoining the travel industry.. I worked as an agent in the late 90's was at the transition point from old to new... Vision Class, Fantasy Class, first Grand Class and the Destiny , now Sunshine... happy Cruising... @@nickcruiseboy
Well done and informative vlog. I’ve booked her on the Sydney to Los Angeles repositioning for 26 nights. Looking forward to it! I’ll need to check out the new Sun Princess too.
Here looking at Discovery bc I’m deciding on a Mexican cruise next year. This is a really good ship review - thanks! So, I’ll admit to watching a few Love Boat episodes (available on the cabin TV) every time I cruise. It’s a tradition. Usually with a room service order that includes that really great chocolate cake they have. Though I’ve been known to do 2am runs to the International Cafe as well. I’ll share a Love Boat secret: every Valentines Day Princess captains perform a group marriage vow renewal in the piazza. It’s romantic and fun and they deliver a certificate to your cabin. And it’s complimentary. I timed our cruise this year to do it
I watched a few episodes of the Love Boat in my cabin this cruise too 😉 I’m excited to hear all about your vow renewal experience onboard! Thanks for watching!
We would love to have a tour of the theatre, i will adk when we're on board next week. And the wine cellar! What an honor to meet 'Doc'. Is the French restaurant still there?
Thank you for a very thorough and informative video. From my point of view, service - customer service - was where Princess got it right. (I agree with you about Good Spirits at Sea.) The medallion was not as intuitive as they would like us to believe; I was continually being asked for my cabin number and my understanding was that medallion was supposed to eliminate that need. But that is a minor complaint at best. (It always worked for my cabin door.) I won't get more specific than that - I could extrapolate at length on what I liked and didn't - but suffice it to say the my 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise (Jan 2024) on Discovery Princess was excellent and I'm already booked for a 10-day cruise on Majestic Princess in November 2024.
Thank you so much for watching! I had a similar experience, being asked for my cabin number a few times, but they times they didn't ask for it I was very impressed! I hope you have a wonderful time on Majestic Princess!
Although this video was dated February 13, 2024, it was clearly shot well ahead of that. Bistro Sur la Mer became the Catch by Rudy the first week of November 2023.
I am very interested in cruising and would like to know what your job is I would have liked to work in a field around cruising and I feel a little lost Thank you so much
There are differences in the class. Discovery has french restaurant and blue glass chandeliers. Regal has a fountain on the pool deck, no french restaurant etc. They may not be huge differences but they are there. Can't wait for my Sun Princess cruise! That ship will change Princess. Also discovery has Duval!
Nick, you’ve created a very informative, enjoyable, and helpful video. Great job!
Thank you so much for the encouragement! And thanks for watching!

It's no coincidence that Princess is embracing the Love Boat as Gen X kids become premier cruise line age. We grew up loving that show.

Doc, Bernie Kopell, was on our Alaska cruise last summer.
Such a fun treat!
I also remember him from That Girl. He played Donald's work friend.
@@AxelQC He was on a Bewitched episode if I recall correctly.

I took Discovery Princess to the Mexican Riviera in January (2024) and it was fantastic! I know you'll have a great time!
