    I think you've got me on the right track in getting this 200es going again.
    Damndest thing.........
    Sat for years inside, it wasn't used. I decided to fire it up, and with little effort, it was running and driving just fine. Two days it was great.
    Then, day 3, no spark! I beat myself up trying to figure it out, (without a meter) and nothing. Left it sit for another year, and now determined to get it going.
    Checked the pulse generator, and only about 2.8 ohms? Then checked the stater output, and only about 28 volts.
    How the heck can it run fine one day, and have two issues the next?
    Waiting for the pulse coil to get here, and will probably have to find a stater also.

    thanks to you i just got my bike firing up after 20 years lol the same fault as you , the dial was up side down. timing sorted ye ha beer to you

    Were you seeing a spark across the spark plug's gap, during the various stages of troubleshooting? I'm seeing a spark, but to me it seems weak. I haven't been able to even get it to pop, as of yet. I'm just getting started troubleshooting this one. (84' 200es)

    I noticed you kept quoting the part #696 I'm assuming you ment 969 as in 30410 969 013 being the oem part number. Thanks for a great video, I've taken notes so I can test mine this coming weekend. I have an 85 200es which I did see a very faint spark but only once during testing on sat, so I will check the ac voltage output. I'm a motor rewinder by trade so if it's a stator problem it's about the only thing on the bike I'm qualified to repair 😆 fingers crossed I don't need a new cdi at 340 New Zealand dollars.

      you can buy a new cdi and coil together on ebay for $21 aud

      @@heathwak3030 if you read the feed back on them they dont work on the 84 85 200es. The only cdi is the 969 for this bike and yes you can get them from ebay for just under $300 nz bucks. Hell i only paid 500 for the complete bike.

      @@alanwalker7342 idk what to tell you then , i had an issue on mine where it would start and run then stall after a few seconds, turned out to be a bad ignition barrel. i just unplugged the killswitch wire coming from the ignition barrel and got great spark.

      @@heathwak3030 yeah nah its all good bud. Ive tested everything on the bike even borrowed a cdi unit of a fellow triker and it ran. I will get one from the states but its just a bitter pill to swallow. Ive got 5 trikes to play with and one fat tyre convert i built.

    I think I might have a bad stator in my 84 200s I replaced the cdi to no avail my air gap on the pickup is good but still no spark. I'll update after I try the stator.

    Listen I need help I have the same year and model. I was missing an advancer spring I replaced it. Then I replaced the pulse generator the wires were beyond frayed. I replaced the Cdi. I replaced the coil. I even made sure my spark plug was good I am not getting one hit of spark worth. Aside from yesterday I saw one amazing blue bolt of electricity and then never again to be seen. I have checked my stator seems to be good like 180 OHMS. Can you help thank you

      You need to see what voltage you’re getting from the stator with a meter white motoring the bike with the plug out

      @@oldmuscle8156 sorry little confused what does white motoring the bike mean. I have checked the stator earlier in the prcocess and was getting about 180-230 OHMs

      @@Southern_PowerPro_Wash_LLC I meant to say while motoring. Your stator not only needs to ohm out good, but needs to produce around 40-80 volts AC when spinning over. If it is considerably lower than that or starts to drop as your motoring then it has a bad stator

      @@oldmuscle8156 so take the plug out and put positive down and the ground it. But do I need to put it in the circle the it connected to the stator or the box I am assuming the circle

    I picked up 200s 1985 2 weeks ago. it started a few times (no decomp unit so was PITA but started and ran) but needed work or brakes, carb,etc. after wards wouldn't start. it would try start about 3 times out of about 25 pulls. didnt look like had a spark. but today i put a ground wire on plug and it showed a spark but seems weak. the plug seemed a little wet/gas. pulled plug pulled to dry out cylinder. but still no start. i think previous guy put on new chinese carb. i checked gap like in your video and cleaned magnet but no luck. any advice? You said if spark not CDI. can it be coil or stator if i get weak spark? Thx

      @@oldmuscle8156 new plug got it started today but idle it wants to stall and when turn idle up notch its fine until i give gas that the idle revs high. doesnt seem throttle is sticking. turned mix screw out but didnt seem to faze it. hers quick video, I found the choke is bouncing and maybe this is cause? not sure if way to tighten it from wiggling? ttps://ua-cam.com/video/w4cFprxY5qE/v-deo.html

    My 185s has no spark at all cdi? Unit?

      Coil or cdi most common. You will have to troubleshoot though to know for sure

    You can still buy the exciter coil for twelve bucks but yes it's china crap. The emgo ones are decent though

      Brian Boles volt meter set on ac. Crank engine with spark plug out and have the meter positive lead on the stator pickup coil wire and the negative lead on the engine case. Should be 40-100 volts ac. It varies

    Not to sound like a prick but your cam timing was prob ok. You just needed to do another rotation of the crank and back on the tdc mark. Crank to cam gear ratio is 2:1. Hence 1 turn of crank is half turn of cam. Good vid though.

      There is only one TDC, right?
      And that's only on the power stroke, both valves closed.

      Well, I guess it can be on the exaust stroke too, but in this case, it had to be on the power stroke.
