None of that overused bullet time cop-out crap. It was great in earlier movies but certainly not in a more grounded scene where a police officer is trying to apprehend a guy in a weird costume who doesn't hold still at a drawn firearm
Interestingly enough, it's explained in the movie. Captain Stacy says in the dinner scene that Spider-Man interrupted the police sting operation. This guy was supposed to lead them to the car ring, so all of the cops that chase him here were probably already there for the car thief.

One small detail I actually love about Andrew’s Spidey is that out of the three(Tom, him, and Tobey), Andrew’s Spidey is the only one that actually had a NY accent.
I think Tom had it in Civil War but I don't remember if he's been using it recently tho Edit: I was rewatching some NWH and he was rather inconsistent, he still has it though
I absolutely loved Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. He matched Spideys energy and comedic timing. Glad to see Andrew is getting the praise he deserves :)
I was so sold on Garfield as Spider-Man when I saw this scene. And him being a real fan of the character really shows how naturally he fits in the role. It instantly took me back to the pages of the comicbooks that I read in my childhood.
@@rauljimenez230 it's a decent theory considering there's a lot of hype for another ASM movie right now, that's untold millions of dollars waiting to be snatched and all they have to do is hire someone who can write a good script, Andrew performs excellently regardless.

That’s such a great cinematic moment when he webs his mouth shut and then the camera pans in and the ominous music comes in. You immediately sense something different in the scene and even his, “this could’ve gone a lot worse for you,” line reveals his darker, vengeful side. It really gives weight to his line from NWH.
@@Tatankd In high school he crawls around the lizard like a real spider when fighting him. in the sewer scene, he makes a spiderweb and combines his spider-sense and feeling the micro-sonic vibrations that the webs are making to find out which path the Lizard is hiding in.

This is how spidey should be. He's at his best when he's being a snarky kid from newyork. And the bullet dodge scene is still one of the best depictions of spidey sense there is on live action.
Exactly. Other adaptations forgot that Spidey is often snarky, not just quips for the sake of being funny. He's either being cocky, or over compensating for his fear.
can't be avoided. who the hell would try to use a knife against somebody that's four times faster than you, ten times stronger and a few dozen times more acrobatic? the thief's belt would be a better weapon than a small knife. at least, you can use it as a whip and hope for the best.
Eh if you have nothing else. Plus a lot of criminals expect brandishing to work, which it does. Then you run into someone where it doesn't. Still a funny line overall.
Maybe it's just me, but this is the first thing I found different about Andrew's Spider-Man. He was funny and energetic, but you can still sense some darkness in him, which is boosted by those lens. And it's not really a bad thing since it's relateable and, like Toby, gives J. Jonah's hate a little justification.
And it even fits with his whole, “Somewhere along the lines I stopped pulling my punches,” bit. It shows the actual power that Peter has and how dark he can even get.
I found that Toby really captured Peter Parker perfectly, but had room to improve as Spider-man. Andrew was great as Spider-man, but needed a bit of work as Peter Parker. Tom Holland did good as both, making him the most well-rounded. The best of the 3 is subjective, because they all delivered a level of performance that well exceeded the minimum needed for the role. Garfield just needed a great movie to shine in... Hell, Holland did too, come to think of it, because the Spider-man movies he was in were only okay.
I love the part where Andrew's Spidey is messing around with a criminal, spouting jokes while webbing him up to the wall. Then covers his mouth with webbing and suddenly the jokes stop and Spider-Man becomes surprisingly scary as he thinks about letting the man die before slitting holes for him to breath. Gives me chills every time and is another reason I love Andrew's Spider-Man. He can be goofy for one second, then serious the next and it doesn't feel jaded.
He wasn’t thinking about letting the man die for trying to steal a freaking car. He may be scaring the crap outta the dude, but he isn’t a killer. He was looking for the man who killed his Uncle.
@@s.e.e455 he was thinking about letting him die, why else would he take so long to puncture holes in the webbing?, Peter was in a dark place at that time.
Most realistic portrayal of a cop in a super hero movie. Show's up, has no idea what's going on, angrily yells, shoots at an unarmed person, makes the situation worse for everyone involved.
I think one of the most under appreciated parts of this film is how the suit, the lighting and the performance all play into this being a genuinely scary version of Spiderman. The suit looks terrifying, especially in low lighting and the way he casually and playfully taunts the car thief like it's no big deal for him, all the while being one step ahead of him almost makes it seem as he isn't human, and the car thief is powerless against him. If u were a criminal in now york city and u encountered this version of Spiderman, u would be terrified. Also the fear factor and slender, almost inhuman appearance of this Spiderman remind me a lot of Steve Ditko's depiction of Spiderman in Amazing Fantasy 15, which was meant to be scary for the reader, taking most of it's inspiration from horror comics.
The horror element of him just vanishing without a sound from the back seat is terrifying. As you said, him being playful is scary in it's own right since it makes him seem kinda insane. It's only when he dodges 4 bullets at point blank does it seem like it could go one of two ways, 1. that cops head flying or 2. the actual outcome.
Not shocked that he missed spiderman but the idea that a trigger happy cop kills a super hero in their origim story makes me chuckle (and is probably real life accurate).
I’m so happy to see Andrew having the recognition he deserves. I like all the 3 spidey, they all have brought something special so what a feeling to see them together in a movie !
I'd say he's A pretty great Spider-Man, not the best, mostly due to the writing and some bad ideas and concepts, but aspects of Andrew's Spider-Man were pretty damn awesome! Honestly, my favorite is the 90s Animated Series one so I always compare all versions of Spider-Man to him both in wit and personality. But it IS cool they expanded on the searching for the killer part in Amazing, and the wrestling part in Raimi's Trilogy. I'd say MCU has focused more on his feeling of powerlessness so far, at least at times, but I haven't seen the new one yet and I'm not sure what the future of MCU Spider-Man is.

Garfield was a fantastic Spider-Man, he really brings the vigilantism out of his Spider-Man antics, the dodging of the bullets after he webbed the guy up was easily one of the best “spidey sense” moments in all the movies
He had an edginess to him here. His Uncle Ben just died and he is on a manhunt to avenge him. It's as though he could care less if the cop shot the criminal as he dodged the bullets aimed at him.

Andrew 100% got the Spiderman character down. He wasn't that bad as Peter Parker. They were going for a more dark approach with his character where the story got deep in his parents involvement with Oscorp or the King Pin. It had me at 100% involved into the storyline.

Ok, while everything about Spidey in this scene is well known, can we appreciate the levels of sophistication and engineering going into that device the thief uses to jack the cardoor? That's some Mission Impossible shit.
Car thiefs are using something similar with newer cars, not identical but in a shape of a briefcase that acts as a signal booster to your key, it boosts the range of the car key to something around 40-50m so when you're parked in front of your house this device makes your car act like you're standing next to it and then like you're inside of it so the thiefs just ride off like it's their car. By the time you notice that your car is gone its already in some Faraday cage garage being torn apart.

I think people now started to realize that Garfield’s version of spider truly captured the original comics. Best adaptation in my opinion. A shame that when The amazing spider man came out it wasn’t well received as opposed to Toby’s version.
I'd say that's just because the Raimi films got the first impression, and Toby Maguire, even if not strictly following the comics, captured the nobility of Spider-Man's cause... Oh and, there will never be another MJ like Kirsten Dunst. Some people were just born for a role

Wish you the best, Andrew.
Same here. Tobey was so serious performing Spider-man, maybe bc his trilogy has a dark tone, but Andrew as Spider-man is just perfect. His humor sense, the way he moves, the way he acts... I always thought that Andrew's Spider-man could've worked if he had better villains with better designs, bc that was probably the worst point of his films
Yup. Some actors are synonymous with their super hero counterparts they play. Robert Downey Jr is iron man. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool. Andrew Garfield is Spider-Man.
I haven't seen this movie yet. But I like how he actually feels grounded. Like he's an actual person, with weight, and he would have to run after a truck, instead of just magically swinging into it with no weight or effort. It's like if you have a dream about being Spider-Man, and you can sort of do his tricks, but you still have to exert effort to jump and climb and swing.
He is easily the funniest spider-man out of the three. Toby’s is more on the serious/grown side, Andrew’s is more playful and sarcastic, and Tom’s is more nerdy and childish out of the three. All play their own spidies so well in their own ways and they’ve really made their mark in marvel history
I like your comments of the 3 Spideys. I feel Toby does the best portrayal of Peter Parker; Andrew the comedic Spidey; and Tom the youthful Peter/Spidey. Overall, I prefer Toby - probably because of sentiment.

@@dewolf123 True, but he still ended up dead as a result of Spidey's actions. Unclear whether that was accidental or intentional on his part, but I'd think most reasonable people would feel at least somewhat responsible even if they weren't the one holding the gun.

He isn’t nearly the best Spider-Man. He got one aspect of the character correct, the jokes. But he didn’t portray how important responsibility is to Spider-Man or the Peter Parker role quite like Tobey did. It’s not all Andrew’s fault, the writing, costume design and dark cinematography were also reasons why the Amazing Spider-Man movies weren’t good. Tom failed at the same aspects of the character, Peter Parker and the responsibility angle. But his movies benefited from better cinematography, writing and costume design. Only Tobey’s Spider-Man nailed every aspect of Spider-Man. Great cinematography, great writing, great costume design, great portrayal of Peter Parker (and how smart he was) and the main theme of the Raimi movies was responsibility.

Tom is a solid all rounder. Imo, he's held back a bit by the MCU formula. It's harder for Tom to develop the intimate elements of the character considering all the MCU bombast that surrounds him. Tobey hit those intimate elements out of the park as the best Peter by far. His films were really Peter Parker movies with Spiderman as a supporting character Andrews Spiderman scenes were the best portrayals of the webslinger, but the Peter character suffered from a bloated web of subplots and the angsty material he was made to work with. That chemistry with Emma Stone tho, damn. . .
I like all 3, but Andrew Garfield played Spider-Man the absolute best. The persona, the joking, the body movement, everything that was from the comics and especially the cartoons that made spidey awesome and hilarious.
I love how he bends down and aims his wrist when shooting the bad guys left arm it was a slight detail for the mechanics and his training for precision
SMNWH made me really appreciate TASM even more to the point i dont consider the bad story and plot of the second one as a bad thing. Also TASM swinging animation showing the first person veiw as well as the "mechanics" and techniques behind his swinging were the best out of all three... he definitely deserves a 3rd movie with stellar fan service and great writing.
I have always said Toby played a great full on Peter Parker showing the emotional stress and dorky nature of the character, and Andrew did a great full on Spider-man showing the cocky witty/sarcastic attitude but still responsible enough to not cross the line and do whats right, and Tom is doing a great job so far of balancing the two personas to lesser degrees and make it feel like a whole character living a double life.
Honestly the thief asking if he is a cop makes more sense once Captain Stacy reveals he's a plant in a later scene. He was asking so he could tell him the truth. It also explains how so many cops arrived so quickly despite no one calling them.
Something interesting about this scene is it does also show how someone could see spiderman as a menace. So the cop shows up and after putting up his hands, he then puts them down and starts moving towards the officer while saying, "Nobody seems to understand the concept of the mask." Now sure the cop was a bit trigger-happy, firing three rounds so quickly, but he ultimately doesn't know who Spiderman is and you got this masked guy walking towards you and ignoring your commands. Then when Spiderman is getting away, he slams into multiple vehicles that had nothing to do with this situation. All they see is that some masked freak has damaged their property. Even if he didn't damage anyone's car, he was still creating a distraction for traffic. Ya so I can imagine people not really liking him that encountered him behaving like this.

After 0.4 seconds of deescalation he fires several rounds at the person without being threatened or in danger (third mistake), while ignoring the other person behind Spidey that could easily be hiot buy his bullets even if he would hit the first one (fourth mistake).
I think it doesn’t make sense for the quippy spiderman in this scene though
@@SM-be5dh well the quips are like him taunting and teasing the car thief, for me it only really adds to the fear factor
How he shush the car thief and just stared at him...God, its like a fricken cereal (for YT sake)...well...you know the word...

@@harveypotter8749 Spiderman is strong enough to lift between 100 and 200 tons. Just to round things off, let's be really generous and say he can lift 100,000 kilograms. That's a one shot, highly motivated feat of strength. His normal strength is closer to 50,000 kilograms (which he normally reigns in to normal human olympic athelete strength range unless facing foes who have superhuman durability.)
Superman has held up 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg for more than a day. His "feat" of strength 1 shot would be higher.

This movie doesn't have a bad script. Better than the new ones, for sure
He gaves carisma to the character, toms spidey feels kinda flat and goofy and toby is more adult spidey
He did not attend Japan promo, that why Sony ban him.
The one thing I love about Andrew's spiderman is the First person perspectives. It just shows how much you need to pay attention to your surroundings.
Andrew will always be my favorite representation of Spidey
Haha true
What? Mission Impossible feces? Tom Cruise pooh-poohed on that car? I missed that entirely.

Man, the first time I watched TASM I thought wow, this guy not performing spiderman, he is actually Spiderman. I grew with Tobey's movies, but when I watched Andrew's I had no words. I never understood the critics against him. To me, there's no multiverse, he's the only Peter Parker. I hope he is on Morbius, Dr Strange 2 and has at least 2 more movies or even a trilogy. Wish you the best, Andrew.
TOTAL agree!
I feel the same way about andrew's spidey... Absolute perfection!

He is easily the funniest spider-man out of the three. Toby’s is more on the serious/grown side, Andrew’s is more playful and sarcastic, and Tom’s is more nerdy and childish out of the three. All play their own spidies so well in their own ways and they’ve really made their mark in marvel history

I remember when this movie came out I told everyone that Andrew Garfield was the best Spiderman and got flak for it. Good to see people finally come around and realize it.

His films were really Peter Parker movies with Spiderman as a supporting character
Andrews Spiderman scenes were the best portrayals of the webslinger, but the Peter character suffered from a bloated web of subplots and the angsty material he was made to work with. That chemistry with Emma Stone tho, damn. . .

When he dodged the bullets my heart dropped because it looked like he was gonna get shot
From positive reinforcing to sarcastically empowering the car thief, I knew I was gonna love Garfield's take on the Web-Swinger😂
Honestly the thief asking if he is a cop makes more sense once Captain Stacy reveals he's a plant in a later scene. He was asking so he could tell him the truth. It also explains how so many cops arrived so quickly despite no one calling them.
I was actually about to ask why so many cops appeared without seemingly anyone calling them, thsnks
The cop shooting quickly is simply an accurate depiction of police in the USA.
@@Klokinator at the fact that you can see a bullet barely miss the dude in the back, shows how ignorant their are to their surroundings and the collateral damage they cause
Right? Like someone else said, he is very clearly a menace to most people. He should really only be seen as a hero to those he's saved!
Well...the cop rolled up to an unknown call right next to one of the participants (first mistake). He immediately whipped out a gun, pointing it at an obviously (both hands clearly visible) unarmed person with no real place to hide a bazooka or such (second mistake). After 0.4 seconds of deescalation he fires several rounds at the person without being threatened or in danger (third mistake), while ignoring the other person behind Spidey that could easily be hiot buy his bullets even if he would hit the first one (fourth mistake). Not bad for about 5 seconds on the scene...sound about right with US cops^^
I mean, he did stop a car thief and didn't hurt anyone, even if the police guy shot at him without even warning.
