I just started a new playthrough of X-2, and I remembered how much fun it is. If you feel up to it, I thought an Item Only challenge would be fun. ...Well, it would be fun for us to watch. Probably won't be fun for you though.
Wait...the final fight Seph vs Cloud, does cloud even have materia on him? you must of omnislashed him! fail! lol I learned a few things about the game from this and i thought i pretty much knew everything about it by now.
So fun fact, you actually totally can catch Chocobos in this challenge. They are extremely resistant to Instant Death, which makes using Odin basically auto-capture them as he kills all other enemies while leaving the Chocobo alive. That lets you get Knights of the Round, which can kill both weapons for sure. Cheers.
Correct Odin's instant kill misses the Chocobo's and won't cause them to run away BUT if playing the PS4 remaster you COULD use the Infinite HP/MP/Limit cheat and use Barrets Hammer Blow limit Every turn single target to kill all but the Chocobo and still capture them that way if they don't run away before you can hammer blow like 2 to 4 enemies at once.

The first time i tried this, it told me to "leave and come back 50 times". I didn't realise it meant leave THE SCREEN and come back, so like a plank, i hopped on the tram back and forth (and this was OG, no triple speed). IT TOOK BLOODY AGES playing the cutscenes over and over again!
On the Lost Number fight, the reason he didn't transform is that Choco/Mog was stunning him. You probably used up all your other summons before knocking him down to the HP threshold for the transformation. I believe it is coded as a counter, and since stun causes counterattacks to be skipped, he never got a chance to do it. Saw Death_unites_us do this to beat Lost Number in a challenge Mod.
I gotta say Primalliquid, I have mad respect for you. I can't imagine having the level of patience and determination to do the videos you do. All I can say is I enjoy your content and I appreciate your efforts!!
7:42 - "it's impossible for me to do wutai with my rules." Yuffie can only steal a set amount of materia (48 if you do it right away i think). I know for most people playing that would be most / all of their materia, but considering the amount of grinding you're doing you'll prob have a lot by then (and choco/mog is low on the priority list so you may get to keep all of them. 🤣
I think you can hold 250, and she steals 200. However, they always prioritise summons first, so if your materia has ANY deviance from Summon class materia you'll probably be stuck with it.
Interesting. For the Lost Number thing it might be the stop/paralyse from choco/mog that stops it doing the form change? If it was a counter to damage below a certain HP then the counter would never go off. Need to try it with added effect and choco/mog on weapon sometime.
We're absolutely feasting on this channel recently! Cheers for so many great challenge runs, my favourite FF challenge channel. I got a bit worried a bit back with the channel update and the possible winding-down/focus shift, but glad to see so much great content. Inspired me to follow the tips and advice on one of the videos and do it myself. I have always wondered how long each challenge takes to plan and execute, it would be a really interesting metric of challenge/grind/primal's patience. Some of the hints we've had in the past seeing glimpses of game clocks are always shocking lol
On lost number, I believe he doesn't split if he happens to be paralyzed/stopped when you hit the split threshold. I've definitely had him split off of a summon before
@@Primalliquid92 depends on how it's flagged in the code. If it's a one time trigger, it might be completely bypassed if he's stunned at the wrong time, and knowing some of the other FF7 glitches.... It is just a guess though
@@omniunown @Primalliquid92 It's not a 1-time trigger. It's more similar to a counterattack. If every hit you do stuns the boss or occurs while the boss is already stunned, it will never change forms since it can't respond to your move. The LLNIIENACMO Challenge shows a great example of how this can be deliberately weaponized to prevent it from ever changing form.
Ok so the story behind motor ball. It’s not that he is weak to wind or anything, the way the game got coded, since it was also so buggy, means that specific encounter, and all back attack encounters are coded in wrong. It swaps out the character and enemy positions, so instead of you getting a true back attack, it’s gives you the boosts of preemptive attacks but attacking last, having your team in the back row makes it read as you are in the front row, taking more damage, where if you were initially in front row, it would lead to less damage. With preemptive attacks on your part, you actually do less damage to the enemy and they can do more to you, you just get the attack first. So what happened with motor ball is that you do 1.5-2x damage and since you were back rowed before, you are front row now.
Challenge video idea. When FfX came out it was all the rage. I think I got bored during the walkthrough portions of the game and suspect I button mashed my way through the grid tutorials. Subsequently I didn't interact with the sphere grid until around Zanarkin when I couldn't beat a boss or something like that. I asked my friend for help, and he both laughed and was impressed I had made it that far with zero sphere grid inputs. I'm not sure how to implement this into a challenge, but it has rattled around my head as just that.
Weirdest thing about this challange for me was that Kujata summon exists in ff7. I think I have cast it once in the all the runs I've done in this game and totally forgotten about it.
According to some research I've done real quick, taken from the internet so it may not be perfect: You can do Wutai. What I do know is: Yuffie only steals a certain amount of Materia (I'm seeing 48 come up a few places), and there's a priority list. Comparing a list I found (But cannot confirm the veracity of) to a list of materia shops: Fort Condor sells Throw or Deathblow once Meteor begins falling, either of which are above Odin, Titan, Ramuh, Ifrit, Shiva, and Chocobo Mog (Also Leviathan but you can't have that before Wutai). So buy about 40 of those (Considering you'll already have a few of the other higher placed materias on the list by then) and you should be able to keep a good number of the lower end summons. Edit: And then you did it. Oh well.
Oh yeah, about Lost number, a strategy I always try is using Cross-Slash or Choco/Mog to stop it from the split. It works somehow, I dont know the mechanics
You should have a play around with yuffie warping, you can do some really cool stuff like skip over Aerith's death and grab all of the TotA loot, no mods required but it only works on the pc version. You can even use it to access the debug room which is next level confusing but great fun to play around in and see what happens. Also, why arent you using mods to make it look beautiful? It's the remake I've always wanted 😅 Love your work dude, thanks for the content 🤙
thank you for condensing your +100 hour game time into only 36 minutes. Was awesome to see you struggle at a few points and then see you overcome them with new strats. Also, that's alot of Bahamuts. P.S would you ever ... EVER ... challenge yourself to beat a minimum battles FF7 run using KOTR for every battle? Purely just to see the final game time

I do love these challenges - I’m sure this would be cake and super easy but I wonder if you could beat the game using only Enemy Skills I bet with Trine, Beta, & Aqualung it would be quite easy, so not much challenge
I think you can use odin to catch a chocobo as it should miss. But I cant remember if that actually makes it run away still or if it works. Odin wont ever hit the chocobo. If this were true KOTR mastered to help make master summon then equip hp absorb and mp absorb to master summon and any kotr allows you to spam win with it as the damage output will heal you fully.
The final battle is essentially grabbing a huge bag of popcorn and watching a space dragon beat up a crazed mutant half-alien for an hour. Best movie ever.
Love to see you try the Necrosis MO challenge. Rules are magic only cant escape battles, but you can only heal at mandatory story heal points. So no inns, out of battle healing, no ethers, etc
@Primalliquid92 yeah its a nasty challenge dreamed up from the GameFaqs FF7 board. Pretty sure only one person is proven to have done it and it was brutal Id have to look it up but Im sure there are more restrictionsin forgetting
Something that may have helped reduce the grind is Cloud’s Apocalypse weapon, which in addition to being a three-slot weapon with triple growth also gives +43 magic and +16 spirit, raising magic damage dealt significantly. As far as I know, this is the only weapon to boost magic, so it makes sense that it would have been overlooked.
Cloud's Apocalypse can only be accessed with a Gold Chocobo, or after you TRULY defeat Ultimate Weapon. Trident might have been a more realistic choice because at least it's readily available through normal main quest actions. Many have pointed out, however, that gaining a Gold Chocobo IS possible after all, since Odin can cause instant death to the non-chocobo enemies but almost always misses Chocobo. I wish I had known that sooner...
You mentioned before Air Buster that you didn't use your 2nd Choco/Mog Materia because you wanted to give it to Aerith. Are you not aware of the Arrange -> Exchange Materia menu? It let's you take Materia off of party members not present at the time. Super useful. As for a new challenge idea, I'd love to watch you try out the Scavenger mod that me and 4-8 productions made. And if it sounds too easy, do it without shopping. It also teaches you a lot of things due to its unique nature
yea i just completely forgot about the exchange bit given i normally dont really need to ever swap gear or materia in my usual runs and i might check the scavenger mod out on stream some time

Its funny how your love for the summon animation is directly counter proportional to how many hours you've had to sit through them and recency of said hours.
7:40 Technically, Wutai IS possible, if you have enough Summon materia. Yuffie only takes so many materia, and if you have more than that, you get to keep it for the quest.
How about FFX-2, but only using Mascot? It is technically accessible the moment you gain access to the Airship and should provide an interesting challenge since a lot of what makes them good are locked behind unlocking skills in other classes, and thus would be locked in a Mascot only run.
Odin can 1 shot creatures in a chocobo fight and keep the chocobo alive. So the chocobo/breeding quest is fully possible. Choco/Mog gains power the more you flee from battle. Once you hit lvl 40 in the train graveyard you should power the materia by fleeing for an hour or 2
For the ruby fight, if you enter the fight with only 1 character alive, ie the one on 7777hp, he will put his hands in the ground allowing you to damage him, a w-summon with pheonix and hades would allow you to revive your party members and inflict status on ruby. Then w-summon hades with another summon. the limit might be his hp and you running out of summoning power or mp before he dies but if you can maybe you'll beat him. I feel your pain for the grind though. I have a save with master materia for each character, all their stats maxed, every weapon / item available and other materia maxed multiple times to allow me to try various strategies on enemies. The grind took ages. Also was working on an FFX grind at maxing summon stats except luck and mp but I haven't been on that in a while.
Can you beat FF7 with only Enemy Skill Materia? Rules: 1. Get to 7th Heaven. You Smuggle in an Enemy Skill Materia with Matra Magic on it into the game. Begin run here. 2. Only Enemy Skills allowed. 3. No items allowed in battle.
You can actually take materia into wutai. She only steals a set amount of materia (can't recall how many exactly). Then the surplus remains in the inventory
I’d love to see a “can you solo ff9 with traumatized dagger” challenge. Anything in her toolkit + items and abilities, just using her crappy disc 3 version that sometimes can’t concentrate. Idk if such a mod exists though.
I feel like you could’ve used some interesting material combinations to blow by these challenge ez. Just put 1 HP-MP Materia, Final Attack + Phoenix Materia and you should have enough MP and revives for all fights. Also, if you needed to fight ruby weapon, kill off all but one member in your party. You’d need chocobo summon for paralysis, and mime along with 6 knights of the round. Alternatively (this is just a theory) you could have 5 mime with 5 master summon materia and and W summon with master summon. Any of these would kill ruby, but you’d have to grind heavy for it.
so off the top of my head, the glitch requires 2 saves and on a version such as steam where the game uses different types of save states. This doesnt work on ps1. First save you must have more party members available such as phs showing 5 characters over the 3 you have in sector 7. Go into the materia menu and select customize to see all members who have materia equipped. Go to the last member of the team and only in the weapon slot you can place the first 2 materia you want to duplicate make sure you exit the screen without moving the curser so its still technically on the last member of the team list. Get into a battle and get a game over. this allows you to store some data without exiting the game which will wipe any leftover data. Next instead of pulling up the same game bring up a different save where you have less party members. load up and go to the materia section and go to customize, if it worked you should still be on the previous last party member slot(which will look blank) you previously had and you can see the two materia you brought over and have them on this save. This doesnt effect the previous game and only works on PC and later as data is stored differently and isnt wiped until you exit the game fully. This is off the top of my head and may have missed a step but this is the basic idea. I played a game with a mostly full enemy skill materia once and was super fun to play though
Every time I see the title "Can you blank using blank..." I immediately say "no." There are almost IMMEDIATELY some caveats. I still appreciate the effort.

Actually if you gather up enough materia yuffie only takes a certain amount and you met get left with some Summons. also I know it might be implied but you did not say no glitches so you can smuggle materia into wutai. If you dont know how 4-8 productions does show this glitch in one of his videos

its because of the way kujata works with it having basicly all elements, anything immune or absorbed means the whole attack is useless, theres very few things its amazing at
IWell, at least this matches FF7 Remake having summons in Midgar. WELP, you made me want to see for myself if Lost Number really ignores summons for triggering his transformation... I never knew for the longest time you could fight battles in the Black materia hieroglyph mural room. Selling all the mastered Alls to buy shitload of Alls made me lol. Oh that Yuffie. LOL at glitching the airship landing to get to the Quadra Magic cave... I wouldn't have minded if you got Knights of the Round at least for Sephiroth, but I understand. Knights is just too good. I have considered a run of Barrett Ungermax only.
Just commenting at the beginning of the video that you don't need to best ruby weapon for KotR. You can beat it or Emerald for it. Either one works. I always beat Emerald first because Ruby is virtually immune to physical atracks. Going Emerald first you can mime Omnislash, get the master summon materia, then use Hades followed by KotR repeatedly
I'm kind of surprised you didn’t smuggle a second summon with the glitch. Or could you? Is the limit the NPC's 1 armour slot? If so, crap. Choco Mog is probably a good play, but i wonder at the merit of smuggling Ramuh instead, since most enemies in Midgar are weak to lightning. Is it castable?
So you moded a second Materia in it? Or did i missed something? Choco Summon you get after Midgar, but you got 2 in Midgar after you said you do some "Farming"?? and as far as i remember copy a Materia isnt a thing by just maxing them out o.o
you know, it absolutely would have violated the spirit of the challenge, but with the "any materia is fine" rule, you could have abused counterattack and command counter to do damage without using battle commands...you know, actually, that could be a fun challenge in itself! NO commands issued in battle, ANY materia combo allowed.

I was unaware of their status resistance, but I can confirm that I've captured chocobo via Odin summon.

Using the airship clip for quadra magic was a really interesting way to do more damage with the summons. Great run

There's also a materia glitch you can get hide two materias in secret slots

i didnt keep him perma stunned though so the split should happen once it wears off no?

thyphoon is always the one i hear people forgetting about the most since its so late and utterly useless since its just a slightly stronger kujata
Havent done any reruns of og ff7 since 2009, but its mostly your fault, because you hit the sweet spot of between nostalgia and new cool things.

I do love these challenges - I’m sure this would be cake and super easy but I wonder if you could beat the game using only Enemy Skills

You probably could, if the materia you smuggle has all the enemy skills. Between Laser and Matra Magic, you'll probably kill most things quite simply.
I think you can use odin to catch a chocobo as it should miss. But I cant remember if that actually makes it run away still or if it works. Odin wont ever hit the chocobo. If this were true KOTR mastered to help make master summon then equip hp absorb and mp absorb to master summon and any kotr allows you to spam win with it as the damage output will heal you fully.
The final battle is essentially grabbing a huge bag of popcorn and watching a space dragon beat up a crazed mutant half-alien for an hour. Best movie ever.

Love to see you try the Necrosis MO challenge. Rules are magic only cant escape battles, but you can only heal at mandatory story heal points. So no inns, out of battle healing, no ethers, etc

Something that may have helped reduce the grind is Cloud’s Apocalypse weapon, which in addition to being a three-slot weapon with triple growth also gives +43 magic and +16 spirit, raising magic damage dealt significantly. As far as I know, this is the only weapon to boost magic, so it makes sense that it would have been overlooked.
Cloud's Apocalypse can only be accessed with a Gold Chocobo, or after you TRULY defeat Ultimate Weapon. Trident might have been a more realistic choice because at least it's readily available through normal main quest actions. Many have pointed out, however, that gaining a Gold Chocobo IS possible after all, since Odin can cause instant death to the non-chocobo enemies but almost always misses Chocobo. I wish I had known that sooner...
You mentioned before Air Buster that you didn't use your 2nd Choco/Mog Materia because you wanted to give it to Aerith.
Are you not aware of the Arrange -> Exchange Materia menu? It let's you take Materia off of party members not present at the time. Super useful.
As for a new challenge idea, I'd love to watch you try out the Scavenger mod that me and 4-8 productions made.
And if it sounds too easy, do it without shopping. It also teaches you a lot of things due to its unique nature
yea i just completely forgot about the exchange bit given i normally dont really need to ever swap gear or materia in my usual runs and i might check the scavenger mod out on stream some time

Its funny how your love for the summon animation is directly counter proportional to how many hours you've had to sit through them and recency of said hours.
7:40 Technically, Wutai IS possible, if you have enough Summon materia. Yuffie only takes so many materia, and if you have more than that, you get to keep it for the quest.
could you not have been using phoenix as a full heal/ revive ever since acquiring it on condors second visit?

How about FFX-2, but only using Mascot? It is technically accessible the moment you gain access to the Airship and should provide an interesting challenge since a lot of what makes them good are locked behind unlocking skills in other classes, and thus would be locked in a Mascot only run.

Odin can 1 shot creatures in a chocobo fight and keep the chocobo alive. So the chocobo/breeding quest is fully possible.
Choco/Mog gains power the more you flee from battle. Once you hit lvl 40 in the train graveyard you should power the materia by fleeing for an hour or 2
Funny enough, I never did all the chocobo breeding and found a strat with Ruby that worked surprisingly well to get that chocobo

For the ruby fight, if you enter the fight with only 1 character alive, ie the one on 7777hp, he will put his hands in the ground allowing you to damage him, a w-summon with pheonix and hades would allow you to revive your party members and inflict status on ruby. Then w-summon hades with another summon. the limit might be his hp and you running out of summoning power or mp before he dies but if you can maybe you'll beat him.
I feel your pain for the grind though. I have a save with master materia for each character, all their stats maxed, every weapon / item available and other materia maxed multiple times to allow me to try various strategies on enemies. The grind took ages. Also was working on an FFX grind at maxing summon stats except luck and mp but I haven't been on that in a while.

You can actually take materia into wutai. She only steals a set amount of materia (can't recall how many exactly). Then the surplus remains in the inventory

I’d love to see a “can you solo ff9 with traumatized dagger” challenge. Anything in her toolkit + items and abilities, just using her crappy disc 3 version that sometimes can’t concentrate. Idk if such a mod exists though.

Pheonix and that last hit materia i think its called that can get all your people returned works well too
I feel like you could’ve used some interesting material combinations to blow by these challenge ez. Just put 1 HP-MP Materia, Final Attack + Phoenix Materia and you should have enough MP and revives for all fights.
Also, if you needed to fight ruby weapon, kill off all but one member in your party. You’d need chocobo summon for paralysis, and mime along with 6 knights of the round.
Alternatively (this is just a theory) you could have 5 mime with 5 master summon materia and and W summon with master summon. Any of these would kill ruby, but you’d have to grind heavy for it.
so off the top of my head, the glitch requires 2 saves and on a version such as steam where the game uses different types of save states. This doesnt work on ps1.
First save you must have more party members available such as phs showing 5 characters over the 3 you have in sector 7. Go into the materia menu and select customize to see all members who have materia equipped. Go to the last member of the team and only in the weapon slot you can place the first 2 materia you want to duplicate make sure you exit the screen without moving the curser so its still technically on the last member of the team list. Get into a battle and get a game over. this allows you to store some data without exiting the game which will wipe any leftover data.
Next instead of pulling up the same game bring up a different save where you have less party members. load up and go to the materia section and go to customize, if it worked you should still be on the previous last party member slot(which will look blank) you previously had and you can see the two materia you brought over and have them on this save.
This doesnt effect the previous game and only works on PC and later as data is stored differently and isnt wiped until you exit the game fully. This is off the top of my head and may have missed a step but this is the basic idea. I played a game with a mostly full enemy skill materia once and was super fun to play though
Every time I see the title "Can you blank using blank..." I immediately say "no." There are almost IMMEDIATELY some caveats. I still appreciate the effort.

Actually if you gather up enough materia yuffie only takes a certain amount and you met get left with some Summons. also I know it might be implied but you did not say no glitches so you can smuggle materia into wutai. If you dont know how 4-8 productions does show this glitch in one of his videos
I haven't even started the video yet, and it's been a while since I played the original FF7... aren't summons unskippable cutscenes? I remember waiting for hours while Knights of the Round finished back in the day haha.

its because of the way kujata works with it having basicly all elements, anything immune or absorbed means the whole attack is useless, theres very few things its amazing at

Just commenting at the beginning of the video that you don't need to best ruby weapon for KotR. You can beat it or Emerald for it. Either one works. I always beat Emerald first because Ruby is virtually immune to physical atracks. Going Emerald first you can mime Omnislash, get the master summon materia, then use Hades followed by KotR repeatedly
I'm kind of surprised you didn’t smuggle a second summon with the glitch. Or could you? Is the limit the NPC's 1 armour slot? If so, crap.
Choco Mog is probably a good play, but i wonder at the merit of smuggling Ramuh instead, since most enemies in Midgar are weak to lightning. Is it castable?
The last jenova fight isn’t hard because it’s the difficulty setting for the final fight. It’s just to gage how strong you are.

So you moded a second Materia in it? Or did i missed something? Choco Summon you get after Midgar, but you got 2 in Midgar after you said you do some "Farming"?? and as far as i remember copy a Materia isnt a thing by just maxing them out o.o
once a materia hits max level it creates a new one, only 1 materia was modded in

you know, it absolutely would have violated the spirit of the challenge, but with the "any materia is fine" rule, you could have abused counterattack and command counter to do damage without using battle commands...you know, actually, that could be a fun challenge in itself! NO commands issued in battle, ANY materia combo allowed.
